Program Description The Evening High School is designed to serve Richland One students interested in obtaining a high school diploma, but due to life circumstances have dropped out of school or are unable to attend school during the day. This high school is not an alternative school; it is a high school that operates at an alternative time. The school’s target population:  previous year dropouts  current year dropouts with preference given to 12th graders  students not eligible for enrollment in the Adult Education Program  referrals from the Hearing Office  students who need one or two courses to meet graduation requirements  diploma track students receiving special education services  students who prefer a small learning environment This program operates on an alternative time schedule, Monday - Thursday, from 4:00 pm – 8:10 pm on the district academic calendar. This schedule enables students to hold a job, meet family obligations and upon meeting the requirements, graduate from high school. The Evening High School has the following objectives:  to provide students with a positive educational experience that will assist them in obtaining a high school diploma  to reduce the school districts overall truancy and dropout rates  to increase the district’s graduation rate  to provide students with career counseling and the opportunity for them to be prepared for postsecondary education, the workforce or the military after graduation  To provide computer-assisted and specialized instruction Curriculum and Instruction The curriculum includes the standard courses required for graduation. To qualify for a high school diploma, students

must earn 24 Carnegie units. Students must complete 120 hours per 1 credit or 60 hours per ½ credit course. Students can earn 3 or more credits per semester.

Direct Instruction Direct instruction is provided by state certified, highly qualified teachers. Many of our teachers work during the regular school day in the district or in surrounding districts. We offer English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language and Business Education. Computer Based Instruction Computer Based instruction is provided by Edgenuity, a web-based instructional program that allows students to recover credits.

Testing: Testing will be administered by the Evening High School Program staff. Students will be notified of the test times and dates. Student Support Services: The school counselor and/or school social worker will assist with academic, career, personal, social and emotional concerns. Special education services are offered to 11th and 12th grade students who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) and are working towards earning a high school diploma. A Registered Nurse is on staff to address health issues.

Internship: A progressive, school-coordinated experience that places students in real workplace environments so that they develop and practice career-related knowledge and skills needed for a specific level job. An internship provides hands-on experience in a particular industry or occupation related to a student’s career interests, abilities, and goals. A learning contract outlines the expectations and responsibilities of the high school and work site including a specified number of hours in the training agreement. The high school intern works regularly during or after school in exchange for the work site mentor’s time in teaching and demonstrating. Database Reporting: In order to document student enrollment, students will be listed as enrolled at their home school. Once they complete all requirements for a high school diploma the diploma will be issued from the home high school.

SEL ReConnect: SEL ReConnect at the Richland One Evening Program is designed to offer social emotional support through individual and group sessions during these unprecedented times as students struggle to keep up with their academic and social well-being. The primary purpose of the ReConnect program is to identify the current conditions and challenges associated with meeting students’ social emotional learning needs and to outline the context in which we endeavor to address these needs and to meet the challenges associated with life stressors. Graduation: The Evening High School offers students the opportunity to graduate: mid-year, end of year and summer. Students may participation in the commencement activities with their home school upon principal’s approval.
