Trip to the University of Richmond

O

n March 20, 2009 Ms. Conway’s Note taking, College is Possible, and Advanced Accounting Class went on a field trip to the University of Richmond. First they attended an information session given by an admissions counselor who had already graduated from the school. “The campus was very nice and the students enjoyed the many historical sites on the campus” according to Ms. Conway. The students had the opportunity to walk through the campus, view the dorm rooms, the fitness center, and the dining hall which was said to be a highlight. Students where informed about the freshman requirements and various schools at the university.

Business Management, and Note Taking; she enjoys teaching here because of the “diversity of student population.” Ms. Smith also says, “I feel like we have a family relationship amongst students and teachers.” She decided to start teaching here because she wanted to be a role model to young kids and feels that she can make a difference in the lives of young people. “Live Love & Learn” is Ms. Smith’s favorite quote.

Mrs. Watson Mrs. Watson is a teacher of Henrico High School’s Business Department. She has worked at Henrico High School for 3 years. A former student of Henrico High School, she teaches Computer Information Systems, IT Fundamentals; Note taking, Desktop Publishing, Keyboarding, and Computer Applications, Business Law, and Personal Finance. She is the leadteacher/sponsor for FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and is currently working on raising funds for the club for future field trips.

DECA DECA is the marketing club at Henrico High School. Thirty-four students attended Y- Street spring training on

Ms. Elliott’s Advanced Computer Information Systems took practice Microsoft Office Specialist Exams in

preparation for the real exams in May; her Business Management class is participating in a Junior Achievement JA Titans Program - an online business management, product selling competition. On April the 20th there will be career fair at HHS, several Business classes will attend. There will be a few more speakers coming by the end of the year for all classes; some of the speakers will be Mr. Mike Herring, Richmond’s Commonwealth Attorney and Mr. Byrd from Exit First Realty, Ms. Patricia Whitaker from First Impressions.

April Fools March 26, 2009. Y –Street is an organization that promotes a tobacco free lifestyle for youth. During the training students were informed of new tobacco trends and ways to combat these trends. On March 13-15 in Norfolk, VA students attended a State Leadership Conference. Students competed in Business simulations as well as attended a weekend long leadership academy.

April 1st, 2009 Keyanna George a senior in Ms. Elliott’s Advanced Computer Information Systems pulled a prank on Ms. Bryant, with the help of her class mates and teacher. Keyanna acted like she was choking on a cookie that Ms. Bryant had given her. Ms Bryant rushed in the classroom ready to help the student then realized that it was a trick. – It was hilarious!
