I really stress two sons, Robert, born on Oct. 30, 1992, and Ryan, born the importance of practice from 80 yards in." Aug. 20, 1994.

Coach Robin Krapfl continues to emphasize the principles of achieving excellence on and off the course in her 24th season as Nebraska's head coach. It shows. Since Krapfl took the reins in 1987, the Huskers have: Earned a nation-leading 57 NGCA Scholastic All-America honors. In 1992, all five of Krapfl’s starters were honored with this distinction. It was the first time in women’s college golf history that a team had accomplished such a feat. Again in 2003, five Nebraska starters earned Scholastic All-America honors. Won 92 academic all-conference awards. Produced two NCAA All-Americans, two conference champions, the 1990 Edith Munson Award winner, a two-time TrueTemper Scholastic Award honoree, one Big 12 Golfer of the Year, one Nebraska Student-Athlete-of-the-Year and 22 all-conference (16 Big Eight, 6 All-Big 12) awards. Qualified for 11 NCAA Regionals. Participated in the first three NCAA Tournaments in school history with trips in 2000, 2003 and 2006. Consistently finished near the top of the Big 12 standings since 1996. Posted a team GPA of 3.71 in 2006-07, the fifth-highest team GPA in the nation. Former Husker and professional golfer Mike Schuchart returns to his alma mater for his ninth season as an assistant coach for the women’s golf squad. Schuchart helps the Huskers with all aspects of their games. Schuchart adds years of professional experience to the Husker staff. Schuchart is a 17-year PGA member who has extensive playing experience on both the PGA and Nationwide tours. During his time on the Nike Tour, he was a three-time champion, including the 1994 Nike Tour Championship. He has also played in three U.S. Opens and four PGA Championships. He has been named the Nebraska PGA Player of the Year three times and was a member of the National PGA Cup in 1992, which represented the United States internationally. His best showing on the PGA Tour was a fifth-place finish at the Hardee’s Invitational in 1993. In addition to playing golf, Schuchart designed the Prairie golf putter MS-1. Developed for fast greens, the putter is shorter from heel to toe and is face balanced. Schuchart lettered for the men’s squad in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1985. Mike and his wife, Felicia, have an 11-year-old son Keegan. Schuchart and his family reside in Lincoln.

Sara Sackett was a senior leader on one of the most successful teams in Nebraska women’s golf history in 2005-06. The Cambridge, Neb., native produced an impressive 77.56 stroke average on the year, while notching four top-15 individual tournament finishes. Her senior season included a career-best second-place finish with a career-best 223 at 2005 Chip-N Club Invitational, which helped the Huskers secure the team title. Sackett also tied for fourth individually with a 224 at the prestigious Edwin Watts/Palmetto Invitational, and added an 11th-place finish (226) at the Central District Invitational as a senior. After helping the Huskers qualify for the NCAA Championships, Sackett performed well at the national tournament with rounds of 77, 76 and 75 over her final three rounds to tie for 79th individually (309). Her four-round total matched teammate Elli Brown for the fifth-best score ever by a Husker at the NCAA Championships. A three-year member of the Husker lineup, Sackett competed in 96 rounds during her five-year NU career and finished with a 79.27 stroke average, including a career-best 71. Before coming to Nebraska, Sackett made history at Cambridge High School by becoming the first girl to medal in the boys state tournament, finishing eighth in Class C-2 as a junior. Sackett competed against boys throughout her high school career because the NSAA did not sponsor girls golf in Class C-2. In addition to her success on the course, Sackett was a three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection for the Huskers, and earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Nebraska in 2006. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in educational administration with an emphasis in student affairs from Nebraska. Before returning to NU, Sackett served as a fitting specialist for Ping golf clubs from 2007 to 2009. She also traveled extensively marketing Ping products at various of events.

OSBORNE Athletic Director Fourth Season Hastings College (1959)

Hall of Fame football coach Tom Osborne has continued to leave a lasting impression on the history of Nebraska Athletics since returning to lead the Husker program as the school’s 13th athletic director on Oct. 16, 2007. Osborne, who led Nebraska to three national championships (1994, 1995, 1997) and 255 victories in his 25 years as the Huskers’ head football coach, has continued to use his impressive leadership skills to guide the NU athletic department as a whole over the past three seasons. With the core values of integrity, trust, respect, teamwork and loyalty serving as guiding principles for Nebraska’s 23-sport program, the Huskers have enjoyed renewed success in Osborne’s first three years as athletic director. In 2009-10, Nebraska finished 17th in the NACDA Directors’ Cup final standings, the Huskers’ best showing since 2000-01. One of Osborne’s first major decisions as athletic director was to hire Bo Pelini as the Huskers’ football coach. Pelini has energized Nebraska’s storied tradition with back-to-back nine-win seasons and a pair of Big 12 North Division titles in his first two years. In 2009, the Huskers notched 10 wins, including a 33-0 win over Arizona in the Holiday Bowl, while finishing in the top 15 in both major national polls. The tradition-rich NU volleyball program has claimed a pair of Big 12 titles and advanced to three NCAA Elite Eight appearances, while the women’s basketball program has earned two NCAA Tournament trips, while notching the best season in school history with a 2010 Big 12 title and a berth in the NCAA Sweet 16. The NU wrestling program shared the 2009 Big 12 title and finished in the top 16 at three straight NCAA Championships. The NU men’s track and field team has captured a pair of Big 12 outdoor crowns, while the men’s and women’s teams have produced five top-20 finishes indoors and outdoors over the past three years. The men’s and women’s gymnastics teams both produced top-10 NCAA finishes in 2010, while the Husker bowling team won the 2009 NCAA title and finished in the top eight at the NCAA Championships each of the

past three years. The NU rifle team has produced a pair of top-six NCAA finishes in the last three years, while the men’s and women’s tennis teams both earned NCAA Tournament trips in 2010. In addition to their competitive success, the Huskers have continued to set high standards academically at both the conference and national levels. Nebraska led the Big 12 with eight CoSIDA Academic All-Americans in 2009-10, increasing NU’s nation-leading total to 277 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans all-time, across all sports. The Huskers also led the Big 12 with a league-record 178 academic all-conference selections, along with a conference-record 687 Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selections. NU graduated 121 student-athletes from August of 2009 through May of 2010, while increasing its Big 12-leading exhausted eligibility graduation rate to 94 percent. The Huskers also have continued to set the standard on the national level in the area of life skills. In 2010-11, Nebraska will open its new Student Life Complex, which is designed to help Husker student-athletes maximize their performance in the classroom and the community. The Student Life Complex is the first step in Osborne’s aggressive building plan for Nebraska’s athletic facilities. In the summer of 2010, the athletic department broke ground on the Hendricks Training Complex at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, which will directly benefit the men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling programs with new practice and team areas. The project is also expected to lead to additional opportunities for improved facilities for many other Husker Olympic sport programs. The Hendricks Training Complex is scheduled to open before the 2011-12 season. In the spring of 2010, the city of Lincoln also received voter approval to begin construction on the 16,000-seat Haymarket Arena, which will serve as the new competitive home for both Nebraska men’s and women’s basketball programs beginning in 2013-14. Not long after the historic vote in Lincoln, Osborne helped Chancellor Harvey Perlman announce an even more historic move with the shift by Nebraska from the Big 12 to the Big Ten Conference beginning in 2011-12. Nebraska’s move to the Big Ten is expected to add Universitywide academic opportunities, while providing financial stability for the athletic department for years to come. Before being asked by Chancellor Perlman to return to NU as athletic director in 2007, Osborne served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives (Nebraska’s 3rd congressional district) from 2000 to 2006. He returned to academia following a 2006 gubernatorial bid, serving as a senior lecturer at Nebraska in the College of Business Administration, teaching leadership and business ethics, in the fall of 2007. Osborne also worked as a consultant for local college athletic departments for two years. Osborne and his wife, Nancy, continue to pour their time and support into the TeamMates mentoring program, which they founded in 1991. TeamMates provides encouragement to schoolaged youth to help them graduate from high school and pursue a post-secondary education. Osborne’s leadership of the TeamMates program began while he was putting the final touches on one of the best coaching careers in college football history. The Hastings, Neb., native, who earned master’s and doctoral degrees in educational psychology from Nebraska, was named NU’s 25th head coach following the 1972 season. In 25 seasons with Osborne at the helm, the Huskers mounted a 255-49-3 record - the sixthmost wins in major college history. Osborne’s .836 winning percentage ranked fifth all-time. His career came to a close with a 42-17 win over No. 3 Tennessee in the 1998 Orange Bowl, when he became the first coach in college football history to retire as a reigning national champion. Following his career, he became one of just four coaches in history to have the mandatory threeyear waiting period waived for induction into the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame in December of 1998. Osborne’s 1994 and 1995 teams allowed Nebraska to become just the second school in history to post back-to-back perfect national championship seasons (Oklahoma 1955-56). Nebraska put together the best five-year run in college football history from 1993 to 1997, going 60-3 with five straight 11-win seasons. Osborne led NU to 13 conference crowns, including six of his last seven seasons on the sideline. All 25 of his Husker teams won at least nine games and went to a bowl, while 15 won 10-or-more games. BOEHM A member of the Nebraska Athletics senior administration since May 2003, Marc Boehm (pronounced BAME) serves as Executive Associate Athletic Director and is the top assistant to the athletic director. Boehm fulfills the director's responsibilities in his absence and also serves as the department's chief operating officer. Boehm oversees the efforts of several areas within athletics, including marketing, media relations, HuskerVision, facilities and events. Boehm also oversees the Nebraska men's and women's basketball programs and the Husker soccer program. He also played a major role in the athletic department's negotiations for its contract extension with IMG College Sports. To date, it is the largest multi-media rights contract in college athletics. Boehm has also played an integral role in the creation of Nebraska’s new practice facilities for men’s and women’s basketball at the Devaney Center, along with the preliminary planning for the new Haymarket Arena in downtown Lincoln, which is scheduled to open as the new home for Husker basketball in 2013-14. Boehm has worked tirelessly with Fox Sports Net and the Big 12 Conference to provide the men's basketball team with an extensive television package each of the past six seasons. Under Boehm's guidance, the men’s and women’s basketball teams have combined for 11 postseason appearances in the past seven years, including the women’s first NCAA Sweet 16 bid in school history in 2010. The 2009-10 Husker women also claimed the school’s first Big 12 regular-season title and became the first men’s or women’s team in Big 12 history to complete a perfect regular season (29-0). The NU women also tied the Big 12 record by opening the season with a 30-game winning streak before finishing with a 32-2 record and a final No. 4 ranking in the NCAA’s official RPI. Overall, the Husker women have established a school record by making seven consecutive postseason tournament appearances under Coach Connie Yori, the 2010 Big 12 and national coach of the year. The women also enjoyed a record-breaking season at the Devaney Center turnstiles, ranking seventh nationally with a school-record 7,390 fans per game in 2009-10. Nebraska averaged a Big 12-best 11,383 fans per game in conference play, and enters 2010-11 with seven consecutive crowds of 10,000 or more and a 20-game home winning streak. Boehm's efforts to enhance NU's gameday atmosphere were not restricted to the basketball programs. He was instrumental in conceptualizing and developing the Husker Nation Pavilion, which quickly became the premier pregame event around home football games. Boehm also took the lead role in obtaining First National Bank and Ameritas as premier sponsors for the Nebraska Athletic Department for a combined deal worth more than $7 million over a three-year period. First National Bank and Ameritas joined ALLTEL, Pepsi and adidas as premier corporate sponsors for Husker athletics. Boehm held the same position at Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2003. Boehm assisted in the rise of the Panthers' basketball program with the men's team posting back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. During construction of the Panthers’ new athletic facilities, Boehm played a central role in Pitt's athletic teams moving to the UPMC Sports Performance Complex, Heinz Field and the Petersen Events Center. Boehm served as interim athletic director at Pittsburgh for nearly five months before coming to Nebraska. During that time, he hired new men's (Jamie Dixon) and women's basketball (Agnus Berenato) and soccer (Sue-Moy Chin) head coaches for the Panther program. Under Dixon's direction, the Panthers have advanced to eight straight NCAA Tournaments, while Berenato has rejuvenated the women's program with three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances from 2007 to 2009. Boehm also spent five years as associate executive director of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. He directed and managed a 125-member fund-raising committee of Arizona business people responsible for generating more than $4.5 million in cash and in-kind partnerships. Previously he spent four years as associate executive director and public relations director of the Sun Bowl from 1987 to 1991. Born in Grand Island, Boehm earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Kansas State in 1984 and added a master's degree in sports management from St. Thomas (Fla.) University in 1985. Boehm and his wife, the former Janelle Broderick of Minot, N.D., have three boys, Broderick, Christian and Lukas John.

Young Huskers Hope to Continue Climb in 2011

Mary Kate Bird has battled her share of individual adversity during her collegiate career. Nebraska’s lone senior was pushing for a lineup spot at the Big 12 Championships before illness knocked her out of contention at the final regular-season tournament in 2008. In 2009, Bird was in the midst of a sensational sophomore campaign when a wrist injury again kept her out of Nebraska’s Big 12 lineup. As a junior in 2010, Bird played solid golf and provided leadership on and off the course for a Husker team that continued improving throughout the spring. She made her first career appearance at the Big 12 Championships, but had to battle relatively severe back pain at the tournament. Despite the pain, Bird stayed in the lineup and helped the Huskers to an eighth-place team finish - two spots better than the team’s spot in the final standings in 2009. Now, as Bird enters her final season at Nebraska as the Huskers’ lone senior, she is hoping to have her healthiest and most successful season in Lincoln. “Mary Kate has had some ups and Mary Kate Bird returns to lead a young Nebraska lineup as the Huskers’ lone senior in 2010-11. 57 NGCA SCHOLASTIC ALL-AMERICANS Nebraska’s three freshmen, along with transfer Katie Keiser, will try to help fill the void left by departed seniors JC Stevenson and Charlotte Wendner. Stevenson, who tied for 15th at the 2010 Big 12 Championships, finished with the fourth-best career stroke average in school history (77.47), while her 136 career rounds ranked fifth in the NU record book. The Grand Island, Neb., native was also the third four-time NGCA Scholastic All-American in school history. Wendner earned All-Big 12 honors by tying for 10th at the 2009 Big 12 Championships, and added an 18th-place Big 12 finish in 2008. The three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 pick was also a two-time NGCA Scholastic All-American. Wendner, a native of Bjarred, Sweden, competed in 95 rounds during her four-year Husker career. “JC and Charlotte both had successful careers on the course and in the classroom for us the past four years,” Krapfl said. “I think this class of newcomers has a chance to really make an impact and give us more depth than we had a year ago.” Nebraska’s blend of experienced players and talented newcomers will be challenged by an outstanding schedule that tees off at its own Chip-N Club Invitational at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club, Sept. 13-14. After shooting for their sixth Chip-N Club title in the past eight seasons, the Huskers head to Lawrence, Kan., for the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational (Sept. 27-28). NU makes its first trip to Columbia, Mo., since the 2003 Big 12 Championships to compete in the Johnie Imes Invitational (Oct. 4-5), before heading south to the Dale McNamara Invitational (Oct. 11-13) in Owasso, Okla. The Huskers close the fall campaign three weeks later at the Alamo Invitational (Oct. 31-Nov. 2). BIRD

Senior Three Letters Kansas City, Mo. (St. Teresa’s Academy)

Outlook (2010-11)

The lone senior on Nebraska’s 2010-11 roster, Mary Kate Bird will try to lead the Huskers back into NCAA regional competition in her final year at Nebraska. A three-year regular in the NU lineup, Bird owns a 77.54 career stroke average over 67 rounds. A two-time academic All-Big 12 selection and a leader for the Huskers in the community, Bird’s career on the course has been hampered at times by injury and illness. “Mary Kate has shown that she can play at a really high level during her career,” Nebraska Coach Robin Krapfl said. “She is an intelligent player with solid fundamentals. She has worked hard to continue to improve her game, and I think that the experience she has gained while also facing adversity is going to help our team this season.”

Junior (2009-10)

Bird produced another solid season with a 77.04 stroke average and four top-25 tournament finishes. The Kansas City, Mo., native was relatively healthy throughout the season and competed in her first Big 12 Championships, after missing the conference tournament her first two seasons with illness and injury. She tied for 55th (82-79-82-243) at the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Okla., battling a back injury throughout the tournament. She followed with a tie for 24th (74-78-77-229) at NU’s Northern Migration in Florence, Ariz., March 15-17, before producing a season-best tie for ninth (75-76-73-224) at the BYU at Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah, March 22-23. 11 NCAA REGIONAL APPEARANCES

Big 12 Conference

The Big 12 Conference has established a consistent level of national success on the field and in the classroom as it enters its 15th season in 2010-11. Since it began play in 1996-97, the conference can boast 38 team crowns and 440 individual NCAA Championships. In basketball, six women’s teams have advanced to their respective Final Fours in the past eight seasons. Nebraska Coach Connie Yori was a unanimous choice for National Coach-of-the-Year honors, while Husker forward Kelsey Griffin gave the conference a consensus women’s basketball All-American for the 10th straight season. Griffin also won the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for her exceptional commitment to success on the court, in the classroom and the community. Nebraska rolled to the regular-season conference title with the first undefeated season (29-0) by a men’s or women’s team in league history before being one of four league school’s to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16, including Final Four qualifiers Baylor and Oklahoma. Nebraska also led the Big 12 in conference attendance last year, attracting more than 11,000 fans per game for its eight home contests, helping the league lead the nation in women’s basketball attendance for the 11th straight season. On the men’s side, nine conference schools have reached the Final Four in the past eight years, and six teams have reached the regional finals in the past three seasons. Big 12 squads enjoyed a strong year across the board in 2009-10. Oklahoma State won the NCAA men’s cross country title while Texas captured the national championship in men’s swimming and diving. Texas A&M secured men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships, and the Big 12 had the No. 1 team in the nation at some point during the 2009-10 season in nine different sports. Five Big 12 volleyball teams, including perennial national power Nebraska, competed in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Championships in 2010, the first time that has happened in conference history. The Big 12 also had a school play for the BCS National Championship (Texas) for the seventh season. Oklahoma finished second nationally at the NCAA women’s gymnastics finals - an all-time high for the Big 12 - while Oklahoma State placed second at the men’s golf championship. Iowa State was third at the NCAA wrestling championships and the Big 12 also placed a team in the College World Series in both softball (Missouri) and baseball (Oklahoma). The individual honors also continued, as Jenny Barringer (Colorado) earned The Bowerman Award, presented for the first time to the most outstanding collegiate women’s track and field athlete. In fact, all three women’s finalists were from the Big 12. Caroline Hedwall (Oklahoma State) was named the recipient of the Honda Sports Award as the nation’s top female golfer after capturing the NCAA individual title. Lisa Koll (Iowa State) earned the Honda Award as the top collegiate female athlete in track and field. The Big 12 has had four Heisman Trophy winners in its 14-year history. In 2008, the Big 12 established a high-water mark, as for the first time in the 74-year history of the Heisman four of the top five vote-getters hailed from the same conference, including award-winner Sam Bradford (Oklahoma). The league followed that recognition with two of the top five finalists, including Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, in 2009. During the past six seasons a total of 16 NCAA trophies have been hoisted by Big 12 institutions, with at least one national crown won in all but one year for the conference, including each of the past 13 seasons. The Big 12 leads all conferences with its seven appearances in BCS title games. Seven league squads have played for the football national championship in the last 10 years with berths in 17 BCS games overall. The Big 12 and its member institutions are committed to a competitive environment where sportsmanship and fair play take center stage. Whether on the field, in the classroom, or within the community, the studentathletes, administrators, coaches and game officials of the Big 12 support the highest ideals in sportsmanship. Sarah Pavan (Nebraska) earned countless accolades for her work away from competition, being named the Academic All-America of the Year for all sports in both 2006-07 and 2007-08. She was also named recipient of the prestigious 2006-07 Honda-Broderick Award as Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year, the first athlete since the Big 12 was formed to earn the accolade. Competitive excellence, scholarship and sportsmanship are all equal components of the Big 12 philosophy. All-Big 12 teams and academic All-Big 12 squads are recognized for each sport at the end of their respective seasons. At the end of each academic year, the conference honors its top male and female student-athletes with the Big 12 Athlete of the Year and Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year awards. Institutions can also nominate student-athletes for the prestigious Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships at the end of each academic year. A total of 249 scholars have received over $1.6 million in postgraduate financial aid. The Big 12 sponsors 21 sports. Men’s squads include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, swimming and diving, tennis and wrestling. Women’s teams are fielded in basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. In 2010-11, conference schools include Baylor, Colorado, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. The institutions created a league that encompasses seven states, over 46 million people and television households in 18 of the top 100 markets within its geographic footprint. The conference conducts championships for 19 of its 21 sports. Each championship helps to determine teams and/or individuals that will represent the Conference in national postseason competition. The winner of the Big 12 football championship game earns the league’s berth into the Bowl Championship Series. In its first 14 years, the conference has distributed more than $1.2 billion to its 12 member institutions. The conference office is headquartered in Irving, Texas.

11 NCAA REGIONAL APPEARANCES

Huskers Stay Focused on Improving in 2010 The Nebraska women’s golf team continued on the path of improvement in 2009-10, just missing a return trip to an NCAA regional appearance. Although the Huskers missed out on an NCAA berth for the second straight season, a young and talented nucleus of players emerged midway through the season. Madeleine Sheils produced a breakout sophomore campaign that culminated with a tie for 11th at the 2010 Big 12 Championships at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., April 23-25. The native of Boise, Idaho, fired three strong rounds of 75, 76 and 74 to finish the 54-hole tournament at 225 to help the Huskers to an eighth-place team finish. A two-place improvement from the 2009 campaign. Individually, Sheils finished with a 76.35 stroke average on the season while playing in all 31 rounds for the Huskers. Her season-long performance represented nearly a seven-stroke improvement A four-time NGCA Scholastic All-American and three-time first-team academic All-Big 12 pick, JC Stevenson closed her career by tying for 15th at per round over her freshman campaign, when she the 2010 Big 12 Championships. Stevenson, a native of Grand Island, Neb., produced 22 career top-20 tournament finishes, including a Nebraska finished at 83.17 over 18 rounds. Sheils, who finished regional record score of 220 to finish 14th at the 2008 NCAA Central Regional. 58th at the 2009 Big 12 Championships, shaved 28 While Nebraska’s 2010 sophomores made dramatic gains on the course, senior JC strokes off her Big 12 Tournament effort from her freshman season. “Maddie really had a good season from several perspectives,” Nebraska Coach Robin Stevenson continued her career-long improvement with another outstanding season. Krapfl said. “Her work ethic and focus were excellent, and I really think that she is just Stevenson, a four-year starter in the Husker lineup, produced the best Big 12 tapping into her potential. She kept improving her game from start to finish as a sophomore, Championship performance of her career by tying for 15th (75-74-77-226). It was her second straight top-20 finish at the Big 12 Tournament and represented the 22nd top-20 and we hope she can continue to do that at Nebraska over the next two seasons.” Fellow sophomore Kayla Knopik also played well at the Big 12 Tournament, finishing in showing of her Nebraska career. a tie for 39th (235) among the 60 players in the field in her first championship appearance. Not only did she improve her placing at the Big 12 Championships all four years at “Kayla really played some great golf late in the season,” Krapfl said. “She has been so Nebraska, she also improved her season stroke average each of her four seasons. As a persistent in her work habits the past couple years. She just kept plugging away and made senior, the Grand Island, Neb., native produced one of the top-five stroke averages in school the most of her opportunities late in the year. I was really proud of the way she played for history with a 75.84 while playing all 31 rounds in the NU lineup. Stevenson’s senior season average marked more than a three stroke improvement from us, and I think she has a good future in the game as well.” Knopik, a third-year player from Papillion, Neb., made her first career appearance in the her freshman campaign, while her career 77.47 stroke average ranked among the top five NU lineup to open the spring season at the UCF Challenge. She contributed to NU’s team players in Nebraska history. In addition to her success on the course, Stevenson also became just the third four-time score by opening the tournament with a 78 and finished in a tie for 67th at 241. After competing as an individual and tying for 47th (80-79-76-235) as Nebraska played NGCA Scholastic All-American in Husker history, while earning first-team academic All-Big host to the Northern Migration in Florence, Ariz., March 15-17, Knopik cracked NU’s lineup 12 honors on three occasions. again at the BYU at Entrada Classic. She provided a breakthrough performance in Utah by “JC was our most consistent and dependable player over the past several seasons,” tying for 14th with a career-best 230 (77-75-78) while helping the Huskers to a third-place Krapfl said. “Even though she had one of the best freshman seasons in school history to team finish. She earned another spot in the NU lineup at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in start her career, she continued to improve each day at Nebraska. She was also an excellent student and represented our program well in the classroom.” early April, before representing the Huskers at the Big 12 Championships. For the season, Knopik produced a 78.22 stroke average over 18 rounds for a 4.61 Fellow senior Charlotte Wendner also capped an award-winning career on and off the course at Nebraska in 2009-10. An All-Big 12 performer with a 10th-place finish at the stroke per round improvement over her redshirt freshman campaign. “I think Maddie and Kayla really show the kinds of gains you can make if you just keep conference tournament in 2009, Wendner finished with a 77.64 stroke average over 28 working and believe in yourself,” Krapfl said. “Golf is not easy. It will challenge you both rounds as a senior. Like Stevenson, Wendner improved her season stroke average each of mentally and physically, but if you can keep your confidence in yourself and your game and her four years in NU’s lineup. A strong performer in the classroom as well, Wendner was a two-time NGCA Scholastic All-American and a three-time academic All-Big 12 selection. keep swinging away and chipping away on a daily basis, you are going to succeed.” Mary Kate Bird continued to solidify NU’s lineup as a junior. The Kansas City, Mo., native produced a trio of top-20 finishes, including a tie for ninth with a 224 at the BYU at Entrada 2009-10 Nebraska Individual Stroke Averages Classic in the spring and a tie for 12th with a 223 at the Chip-N Club Invitational to open the Golfer Strokes Rounds Average season at Wilderness Ridge. THE NEBRASKA ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE Columns in the Hewit and Boekel Academic Center display the names of every Husker studentathlete who has lettered in a varsity sport and graduated from the University of Nebraska.

From the day student-athletes decide the University of Nebraska is the right place to be, the athletic academic counseling unit provides personal and academic support to ensure that student-athletes will get the most out of their years as Huskers. 57 NGCA SCHOLASTIC ALL-AMERICANS Instruction, a sub-component of the tutorial program, provides targeted group review sessions to help ease the transition to college academics while improving study strategies and building academic self-esteem.

Study Hall

There are two facets to the study hall program at Nebraska. Student-athletes either attend a structured study hall, typically two hours in length held four days a week, or have flex time where they study a specific number of hours each week as determined by their academic counselor and/ or coach. Weekly study hall reports are provided to the coaching staff.

Mentoring

Many student-athletes meet with a mentor on a weekly basis to assist in making a smooth transition from high school to college. Mentors collect syllabi, gather and report academic progress information and teach academic success strategies.

Educational Assessments

Assessments are administered upon the request of the student-athlete, academic counselor, or coach to determine student strengths and areas for improvement. Results allow academic counselors to develop a personalized academic support program and to determine if more in-depth testing is warranted. When additional assessments are necessary, referrals are made to a consulting psychologist who conducts the assessments. If it is determined that a student-athlete has a learning disability, appropriate accommodations are made through the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.

Multi-Cultural Programs

Designed to enhance cultural awareness, staff members concentrate efforts on issues of transition, adjustment and retention for students of color, international students and women. These support programs include Ladies First, International Night and Your Degree First. Your Degree First is a program designed to assist, motivate and promote minority student-athletes in pursuing the degree of their choice.

Student-Athlete Orientation

The academic staff coordinates New Student-Athlete Orientation to help newcomers adjust to the multiple demands of being a college student-athlete. Presentations are made by academic counselors, compliance officials, NU faculty and administrators, business/community professionals and student-athletes.

Personal Counseling

Student-athletes will find a supportive and caring environment at Nebraska. Transitional issues, stress management, time management, academic focus and problem resolution are all addressed in a proactive manner throughout the year. If necessary, counseling referrals are also made to designated practitioners.

Computer Resources Student-athletes enjoy a new state-of-the art computer lab and technology center with nearly 60 computers and professional supervision. Laptops are also available during team travel. Student-athletes have the benefit of ongoing education and assistance from a full-time computer technician. The Nebraska Student Life Complex opened after receiving an $8.7 million expansion and renovation in 2010. The Student Life Complex, which includes the Hewit Academic Center (top right), the DJ Sokol Enrichment Center (bottom left), the Scott Technology Center (middle right) and the Abbott Life Skills Center (next page) tripled the size of NU’s previous academic support area.
