SENIORS SEARCH FOR NCAA BID IN 2016 The Nebraska men’s tennis team enters the 2016 season with a talented and experienced senior class eager to take the Huskers to an NCAA Tournament bid in their first season at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center. Nebraska Coach Kerry McDermott, who has guided the Huskers to 375 victories entering his 35th season at the helm, said the Dillon Tennis Center is providing his Huskers with an improved practice atmosphere and helping to create a championship culture in the program. “This is a dream come true for us to be able to conduct practices and host matches indoors and outdoors on our campus,” McDermott said. “This will create a better learning environment and will allow for more one-on-one time with our student-athletes.” The Dillon Tennis Center features six indoor courts and 12 well-lit championship outdoor courts with Olympic-caliber surfaces. The pristine new facility includes seating for 1,400 spectators, as well as providing new coaches office, team locker and meeting rooms, and expansive and convenient athletic medicine areas. Seniors Dusty Boyer, Marc Herrmann, Scott Elsass, Bradford Zitsch and Andrew Dzulynsky and fourth-year junior Chris Schindler have watched the Dillon Center rise from the ground up during their time at Nebraska. They plan to set the tone for the Huskers’ experience in the new facility while providing leadership for a 10-player Husker roster that includes newcomers Tomislav Antoljak, Toby Boyer, Micah Klousia and Rok Krizaj. Dusty Boyer headlines a five-player senior class as a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection playing out of the No. 1 spot in Nebraska’s singles lineup. Boyer went 21-12 in singles action and 1317 in doubles play in 2014-15 to produce 34 combined victories for the Big Red. This season, he will shoot for a third straight 20-win singles campaign and plans to team with younger brother Toby to provide a formidable doubles pair at the top of the Husker lineup. During the fall of 2015, the Boyers captured the doubles championship at the Big Ten Indoor Tournament. Overall, Dusty Boyer owned 111 combined wins in singles and doubles entering the 2015-16 campaign. Herrman, who is also entering his fourth season playing near the top of NU’s lineup, is expected to play out of the No. 2 singles position again in 2016. The junior from Rohrbach, Germany, hopes to join Dusty Boyer in Nebraska’s century club this season. Herrmann entered his final year at Nebraska with 96 combined victories, including 50 in singles and 46 in doubles action. An excellent leader on and off the court, Herrmann joins Boyer as a two-time academic All-Big Ten choice and as members of the 2015 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Herrmann was also Nebraska’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner in both 2013 and 2014. “He is a good leader on and off the court
A returning first-team All-Big Ten competitor, Dusty Boyer enters the 2016 season as Nebraska’s No. 1 singles player.
and sets a good example for his teammates,” McDermott said. “He’s got a pretty powerful game. He knows what his game is.” Dzulynsky joins Dusty Boyer and Herrman as a returning staple in the Big Red singles and doubles lineup. As a junior in 2015, Dzulynsky played out of the No. 3, 4 and 5 spots in the Husker lineup. He has claimed 10 singles victories each of the last two seasons, and has produced winning doubles records in both of the last two years. Off the court, the senior from Miramar, Fla., has added academic All-Big Ten honors in 2014 and 2015, as well as earning a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2015. “He is a hard worker who can play at a high level,” McDermott said. Elsass and Zitsch round out Nebraska’s fivemember senior class. Elsass has been a mainstay in Nebraska’s doubles lineup. Last year, the Eden Prairie, Minn., native produced a 15-14 doubles record while playing primarily out of the No. 2 position with occasional work in the No. 1 spot. He will also contend for more time in Nebraska’s singles lineup. A two-time academic All-Big Ten selection, Elsass also has earned a pair of spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team during his Nebraska career. “Scott is probably one of the best competitors on our team,” McDermott said. “He works hard. He makes the team better because others see him working hard.”
Zitsch has joined Elsass as one of the Big Red’s top doubles players. The senior from Columbia, Mo., played 13 spring matches at No. 1 doubles with Dusty Boyer in 2015, but could slide to the regular No. 2 position this season with Elsass. Last year, the tandem joined forces for a 3-1 doubles mark, and with the Boyer brothers expected to see time together in doubles this year, Zitsch and Elsass could give Nebraska an edge in earning regular doubles points. Zitsch also saw increased singles time a year ago at the No. 5 and 6 spots, and will contend for more time this season. A leader off the court as well, Zitsch is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an academic All-Big Ten pick in 2015. He was also Nebraska’s winner of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award and a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2015. Nebraska’s final fourth-year member of the program, junior Chris Schindler hopes to contend for more playing time in 2016. Schindler owns a 2-0 career record in spring singles and 2-0 mark in spring doubles play as well for the Big Red. A stellar performer off the court, Schindler is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, a two-time academic AllBig Ten selection, and he earned a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2015. Schindler was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Toby Boyer headlines a solid four-player freshman class for the Huskers. The younger Boyer made an immediate impact on the

ALL-BIG TEN BOYER LEADS STRONG SENIORS Nebraska program during the fall season, earning a spot in the finals of the Big Ten Indoor Championships. He brought home runnerup honors after pairing with Dusty to win the conference indoor doubles title. The 2015 Minnesota Class AA singles champion, Toby Boyer was ranked No. 35 nationally before joining the Huskers. “He is a very determined and hard worker,” McDermott said. “He is willing to go the extra mile to improve and commit to our program.” Boyer will be joined by Croatian Tomislav Antoljak in competing for time in Nebraska’s singles and doubles lineups. Antoljak was one of the highest ranked players in Croatia before arriving in the United States, and chose Nebraska over several other Big Ten Conference programs, including Wisconsin and Purdue. “Tomislav has played some high level tennis before entering our program,” McDermott said. “His experience will be valuable for our team. He brings very good energy, enthusiasm, an and ethic of hard work. He will push this team to a higher standard.” Another late addition to the program was Rok Krizaj. A multi-time singles and doubles agegroup national champion in his home country of Slovenia, Krizaj is expected to redshirt in 2016. Fellow freshman Micah Klousia out of Glendale High School in Springfield, Mo., is also expected to redshirt in 2016. Klousia was regularly ranked as the No. 1 or 2 player in his age group in the Missouri Valley region, and he was a two-time state finalist in Missouri. “He quietly has performed at a very high level for us and continues to improve each and every day,” McDermott said. “We like Micah’s drive and determination and only see him improving in our program over the next few years.” Nebraska opens a loaded 2016 schedule with its first regular-season matches at the Dillon Tennis Center on Jan. 23. The Huskers face Omaha and North Dakota on Saturday, Jan. 23, to open a five-match season-opening home stand that includes Denver (Jan. 29), Oregon (Jan. 31) and UMKC (Feb. 7). The Huskers, who play seven of their first nine matches at home, return to the Dillon Tennis Center to face Creighton Feb. 27, before battling the Big Red from Cornell on March 5. Nebraska opens Big Ten play at Iowa on March 11, before hosting its first Big Ten foe Wisconsin on March 27. The Huskers add home Big Ten battles with Northwestern (April 8), Illinois (April 10), Indiana (April 15) and Purdue (April 17). Nebraska will honor its five seniors in the match with the Boilermakers. Last season, seven of the 12 Big Ten men’s tennis teams finished among the nation’s top 75. This season, the Huskers hope their new homecourt advantage can help them contend for an NCAA Tournament berth while playing 16 of their 25 matches at the Dillon Tennis Center.

Kerry McDermott Head Coach 35th Season Nebraska (1980)

McDermott owns the second-longest tenure among active Big Ten coaches, while his 375 career victories are the most in the history of Nebraska tennis. In fact, only one other coach, Ed Higginbotham (1951-72), recorded 100 career victories. McDermott owns a 375-401 career record. More impressively, McDermott guided the Huskers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011 and has led Nebraska to five consecutive final top-75 ITA national rankings. In fact, the Huskers have finished the season ranked among the ITA top 75 in nine of the last 11 seasons. With a record of 11-14 in 2015, McDermot pushed the Huskers to a 3-8 Big Ten mark, and helped Dusty Boyer capture first-team All-Big Ten honors in singles for the second straight year. In 2014, McDermott led a young Husker team to a 12-15 overall record and a 3-8 Big Ten mark with Boyer leading the way. In 2012, McDermott led the Huskers in their first year in the Big Ten Conference. McDermott guided the Huskers to an 11-15 overall record and a 3-8 mark in conference play, as NU finished the season ranked No. 73. The Big Ten featured seven ranked teams in 2012. McDermott had two players earn All-Big Ten honors. Christopher Aumueller captured first-team All-Big Ten honors while Benedikt Lindheim added a second-team All-Big Ten award. Aumueller and Lindheim teamed up on the doubles court to finish the season ranked No. 26 after competing in the 2012 NCAA Men’s Tennis Doubles Championship. The appearance by Aumueller and Lindheim at the 2012 NCAA Championships, followed back-to-back NCAA Championship bids by the Husker team in 2010 and 2011. Nebraska finished 15-12 and closed the 2011 season at No. 44 in the ITA rankings after a narrow 4-3 loss to Miami in the NCAA first round. Aumueller earned a spot on the All-Big 12 team as a singles competitor, while joining partner Andre Stenger on the All-Big 12 doubles team.
McDermott’s 2010 Husker team finished No. 41 in the ITA rankings with a 13-12 record after claiming the school’s first NCAA Tournament bid. NU fell to North Carolina 4-1 in the first round, but helped propel the Huskers to a repeat bid in 2011. NCAA Tournament appearances and national rankings are just a small part of McDermott’s successful career at Nebraska. McDermott’s players regularly refer to his character and commitment to them off the court. McDermott routinely recruits individuals who are focused on team success, and he serves as an invaluable resource to young men in navigating their paths to maturity and graduation. In the classroom, Nebraska annually places student-athletes on academic all-conference teams and contends for the Herman Award, which is presented each year at Nebraska to the men’s and women’s teams that produce the top grade-point average. McDermott’s men’s tennis teams have captured the award five times (1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002). In 2012, Aumueller, Lindheim and Sock earned spots on the academic All-Big Ten team. Aumueller added NU’s first-ever Big Ten Sportsmanship award and claimed the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship award for the Central Region. Nebraska’s roster regularly features players from around the country and the world. McDermott is committed to keeping Nebraska’s top players at home, while attracting some of the best competitors from the Midwest and Big Ten region. McDermott also has had great success throughout his career in bringing top talent from overseas. After completing his playing career at Nebraska in 1980, McDermott earned his first career win as the Husker coach in 1982 and quickly started his climb up the NU coaching ledger. That early success was realized behind a solid foundation of players who earned regional and national acclaim. The leader of that group and one of the top players in the nation each of his last two seasons was Steven Jung. After earning a berth in the NCAA Championships for three consecutive seasons, Jung is the most decorated athlete in NU men’s tennis history. Jung is the only player in Nebraska history to earn AllAmerica status, after he finished his career as the runner-up at the 1989 NCAA Tournament. Under McDermott’s guidance, Jung entered the tournament ranked No. 16 in the country, the highest regular-season ranking for a Husker in history. Jung also reached the NCAA Tournament in doubles play that season, teaming with his brother, Stuart, to rank as high as 12th in the nation. Steven Jung finished his career as the Nebraska career wins leader with 114. He was also a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American, contributing to Nebraska’s all-sport record total of 314 entering 2015 season. In 1988, McDermott earned Big Eight Coach-of-the-Year honors by guiding the Huskers to a second-place finish in the league standings with a 5-1 record. Nebraska finished the season with a 14-6 dual mark, one of 16 seasons under McDermott that NU has recorded at least 10 dual match victories. McDermott pulled double duty during the 1988 season, as he also crossed over to coach the Husker women’s team for one year. He helped the Huskers to a fifth-place finish in the league standings despite a 5-12 overall record. McDermott’s Huskers came back to post a 17-7 record in 1989, the best winning percentage (.708) during his tenure. The Huskers matched the school-record mark with 17 victories again in 1990. Over the years, McDermott has tutored 11 Huskers through the regular season into the NCAA Championships. Four of the national tournament appearances have been in singles action, with the most recent coming in 2002. Five other appearances have come on the doubles court. McDermott has continually pushed the Huskers to excel on and off the court. Under his guidance, Nebraska has recorded a 364-387 overall mark during the past 33 seasons. He has helped 12 singles players and five doubles teams earn conference championships, with the most recent coming at the end of the 2000 campaign, as Ryan Haith grabbed the top spot in the Big 12 at No. 6 singles.
After struggling in the mid-1990s, the Huskers have recorded at least nine dual victories in 17 of the past 18 seasons. In 2009, McDermott led the Huskers to a 16-10 record and a final ranking of No. 68. It was the second-best win total in school history, trailing only the 1990 squad that captured 17 victories. From 2009 to 2012, the Huskers began each season ranked in the top 50. In 2010 the squad began their campaign ranked 41st, and in 2011 the Huskers started the year ranked 42nd. They began the 2012 season ranked No. 40. McDermott also has helped Nebraska singles and doubles players achieve spots in the national rankings. Aumueller, a four-year standout who completed one of the most successful careers in school history in 2012, finished among the top 100 in the national rankings in each of his four seasons on the court. Aumueller closed his freshman season at No. 97 in 2009, before climbing to a final ranking of No. 85 in 2010. In 2011, he finished further up the ladder at No. 75, before closing his senior season at No. 70. Aumueller, who is in his fourth season assisting the Husker staff in 2014-15, also was a standout on the doubles court. In fact, he and Lindheim entered the 2012 season as the No. 7 doubles team in the nation before eventually earning a trip to the 2012 NCAA Doubles Championships. Aumueller made history for the Huskers as a senior, as Nebraska’s first-ever first-team All-Big Ten selection, while Lindheim added a second-team award. The duo also finished the season at No. 26 in the national rankings. In 2009, Aumueller was the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. Other Huskers to earn national rankings since 2002 include: Lance Mills (99th, 2002); Florian Preissler (78th, 2003), Adrian Szatmary (78th, 2007; 115th, 2005); Calin Paar (70th, 2009; 128th, 2008); David Bendheim (67th, 2009); Andre Stenger/ Robert Schulze (44th, 2012). Arguably one of the program’s greatest upsets came in the spring of 2005, when McDermott led the Huskers to a win over No. 16 Rice in the first dual match of the season, which also gave McDermott his 250th career win. Initially unranked as a team, the win helped push the Huskers into the national polls where they stayed for 13 weeks, ranking as high as No. 55. In 2003, Nebraska reeled off a seven-match win streak early in the season behind Florian Preissler (13 singles wins) and freshman D.J. Geatz (14 singles wins). The previous season, NU’s Jose Hernan also reached the 14-win total while helping the team finish with a No. 72 ranking. Hernan’s teammate, Lance Mills, became the first Husker to qualify for the NCAA singles tournament in a decade, where he advanced to the second round of the championship. The Omaha native finished the 2002 season ranked No. 99 in singles play after posting a 1-1 record at the national tournament. McDermott began his relationship with the NU men’s tennis program as a player. He competed for the Huskers from 1976 to 1980, and lettered all four years before playing No. 1 singles as a senior. A native of Grand Island, Neb., McDermott is married to the former Terrie Wade, also of Grand Island. In his spare time, McDermott competes in local and state tennis tournaments and is an avid runner who races competitively. In 2003, McDermott won the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs for his age group at the Cornhusker State Games, and he picked up a bronze medal in the 5-mile road race. For his accomplishments, McDermott was named the Cornhusker State Games Male Athlete of the Year. McDermott also earned the National Congress of State Games Male Athlete of the Year award in 2003, recognizing him for his distance running achievements and participation in various activities over 20 years at the Cornhusker State Games. McDermott also served as the Director of the Cornhusker State Games in 2006.

Fungai Tongoona Assistant Coach Fourth Season Nebraska (2003)
Former Husker Fungai Tongoona joined Coach Kerry McDermott's staff in 2012. Tongoona, who played for NU from 1999 through 2002, brings extensive experience as an instructor to the Husker staff.
"I feel real fortunate to have Fungai Tongoona on my coaching staff," McDermott said. "He brings a wealth of familiarity to our program and understands the type of individual we are looking for both as a student and an athlete here at the University of Nebraska. He is a man of high integrity, has an unbelievable work ethic and is very passionate about keeping Nebraska tennis among the elite in the Big Ten and college tennis." In 2015, Tongoona helped the Huskers to an 11-14 record and a 3-8 Big Ten mark. NU managed a 12-15 record and a 3-8 Big Ten mark in 2014. Dusty Boyer captured All-Big Ten honors in both 2014 and 2015 for the Big Red. In 2013, Tongoona’s first season coaching the Huskers, he helped Nebraska to a 10-15 overall finish, including a 2-9 Big Ten mark. The Huskers finished the season ranked No. 62 in the final ITA standings for 2013. Originally from Harare, Zimbabwe, Tongoona spent four seasons (1999-2002) with the Husker program playing for McDermott. A two-
year captain for the Huskers, he compiled a 1216 record in singles play while going 17-12 in doubles action as a senior in 2001-02. In addition, he served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board during his time at Nebraska and was honored by the Big 12 with a community outreach award in 2000. He graduated with a degree in marketing and a minor in French from Nebraska in 2003. Tongoona has been a certified tennis teaching professional since 2002, serving as head professional at Southlake (Texas) Tennis Center, as well as the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln. Shawn Eichorst came to the University of Nebraska in 2012 with an incredible passion for the University and for its studentathletes. As the leader of a tradition-rich program with 24 intercollegiate teams, 600-plus student-athletes and more than 300 full-time employees, Eichorst has relied on a strong value system and a student-centered approach to lead the Department. Nebraska’s primary mission is to provide student-athletes with the resources and support they need to be successful in academics, athletics and life. The health, safety and welfare of student-athletes is Nebraska’s top priority and at the essence of every decision made. Nebraska has a history of providing first-class coaches, staff and facilities for its students. Additionally, since Eichorst arrived in Lincoln, resources and services in every student-athlete support unit have been improved and enhanced, including academics, athletic medicine, life skills, nutrition, sports psychology, strength and conditioning and in the Nebraska Athletics Performance Laboratory (NAPL). Eichorst has continued to aggressively move Nebraska forward with several new initiatives to enhance the student-athlete experience. The Department will provide state-of-the-art laptop computers to all student-athletes beginning in the summer of 2015 and the University will now provide four-year, full cost of attendance-based scholarships for all scholarship student-athletes in every sport. Also beginning in the summer of 2015, every Husker letterwinner who graduates and has exhausted his or her eligibility will be provided assistance to either obtain an internship; study abroad or attend graduate or professional school. Eichorst has made more than 350 public appearances around the state, and his monthly radio show and “Connecting on Campus” online column provide the opportunity for him to further connect and share the incredible activities, initiatives and accomplishments that take place at Nebraska. As a member of the Chancellor’s Senior Administrative Team, Eichorst maintains a strong connection and collaboration between the University and Department of Athletics. A highly respected national leader, Eichorst was appointed in
2015 to the Division I Football Oversight Committee. He was the first Director of Athletics from any conference to visit the Big Ten Conference-based Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) at its Champaign, Ill., headquarters. The CIC is a highly successful academic-based consortium of 15 schools, including all 14 in the Big Ten Conference. Nebraska is leading the Big Ten and the CIC in several areas, including Digital Humanities and head injury research. Under Eichorst, Nebraska extended its nation-leading total of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans to 320 and its nation-leading total of NCAA Top Ten Award winners to 17, after Mary Weatherholt (women’s tennis) earned the honor in 2014. In 2014-15, more than 400 awards were presented at the 25th Anniversary StudentAthlete Recognition Banquet—A Night at the Lied. Over three commencements, 118 student-athletes earned undergraduate or graduate degrees and the Big Ten Conference honored 205 Husker student-athletes with Academic All-Big Ten awards. For the first time in school history, all Nebraska teams had an NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 950 or higher, as reported in May of 2015. The Nebraska football (second consecutive year) and rifle (third consecutive year) programs received public recognition for having an APR in the top 10 percent in their respective sports. In addition, five Husker teams (women’s basketball, softball, women’s tennis, volleyball and women’s golf) had a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 100 percent, as reported in the fall of 2014. On Dec. 4, 2014, Eichorst announced the hiring of Mike Riley as the Huskers’ new head football coach. As one of the most respected and sought-after coaches in the profession, Riley’s hire was highly praised by prominent members of the national media, the coaching fraternity, Riley’s former players, and current and former Nebraska student-athletes. In Riley, Eichorst secured one of the finest football minds in the world and great positive-thinking teacher of young men. In 2014-15, the Nebraska women’s bowling team earned the school’s seventh national title and fifth since bowling became an NCAA sport in 2004. The Husker men’s track and field team won the Big Ten Indoor Championship and 13 Husker teams competed in NCAA postseason action, including bowling, football, volleyball, women’s basketball, wrestling, softball, men’s and women’s gymnastics, rifle, and men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field. Nebraska produced 36 All-Americans who won 51 awards. Nebraska’s fan support continues to be unparalleled in college athletics. In fact, in 2014-15 top 15 national rankings for average attendance were reached across five sports—football, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball. A tribute to loyal Husker fans, two sports lead the nation with consecutive home sellout streaks, including football (340) and volleyball for regularseason action (188). In 2013-14, Nebraska became one of only two NCAA institutions – and the first Big Ten program in history – to qualify for a football bowl game, and advance to NCAA postseason in the major team sports of volleyball, soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. Additionally, Nebraska was the only institution to win a postseason game in six of those seven sports. Under Eichorst’s leadership, Nebraska continues to focus on improving its facilities and the game-day experience at all athletic venues. In the summer of 2015, a world-class Soccer and Tennis Complex, located just north of the Devaney Center and Nebraska Innovation Campus, was completed. A new center-hung video board and sound system was installed in the Devaney Center in 2015 to improve the game-day experience for volleyball, wrestling and men’s and women’s gymnastics. In 2014, the largest wireless network system at a college football stadium in history was installed in Memorial Stadium, along with a state-of-the-art sound system. In the summer of 2013, a Memorial Stadium expansion also added the innovative NAPL inside East Stadium next to the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior (CB3). That same year, Nebraska’s men’s and women’s basketball teams became the primary tenants at Pinnacle Bank Arena, and the renovated
Devaney Center became the home for Husker volleyball, wrestling and the men’s and women’s gymnastics programs. Eichorst came to Nebraska after serving as Director of Athletics at Miami in 2011 and 2012. He hired legendary men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga, who led Miami to the NIT Second Round in his first season and ACC regular-season and tournament titles as well and the NCAA Sweet 16 in his second. The women’s basketball program posted its highest national ranking in school history (No. 5) and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. The women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth straight season, and the baseball team made its 40th consecutive NCAA appearance. The women’s soccer team posted its first NCAA Tournament win in school history, and the volleyball team made its third straight NCAA Tournament trip. Before heading to Miami, Eichorst was the Deputy Director of Athletics at Wisconsin. He was the Chief Operating Officer and oversaw the department’s daily operations, as well as Bo Ryan’s men’s basketball program under the direction of Director of Athletics and former Husker Barry Alvarez. From 2004 to 2006, Eichorst served as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Administration at South Carolina, overseeing the department’s daily operations, as well as the football and baseball programs under legendary coaches Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier and Ray Tanner, respectively. From 1999 to 2003, Eichorst served as the Director of Athletics at Wisconsin-Whitewater, which produced four top 10-percent finishes in the NACDA Directors Cup, one NCAA team title and two NCAA runner-up finishes. The program also featured 11 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections. A native of Lone Rock, Wis., Eichorst was an all-conference defensive back, three-time letterwinner and 1990 football team captain for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He graduated magna cum laude in business from UW-Whitewater in 1990 and in 2015 was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement. He earned a law degree from Marquette Law School in 1995, practiced law in Milwaukee until 1999 and is a past member of the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors. He served as an assistant adjunct professor of law at Marquette, where he taught classes in sports law. He serves on the Marquette University National Sports Law Institute Board of Advisors and in 2006, Marquette awarded Eichorst the Sports Law Alumnus of the Year Award. He is also a graduate of the Sports Management Institute and serves on its Executive Committee. Shawn and his wife Kristin have three sons: Jack, Joseph and Bennett.

Marc Boehm
Executive Associate A.D./Development, Ticketing & Events
A member of the Nebraska Athletics senior administration since May 2003, Marc Boehm (pronounced BAME) serves as executive associate athletic director and is the top assistant to the athletic director. Boehm fulfills the director’s responsibilities in his absence and also serves as the department’s chief operating officer. Boehm oversees the efforts of several areas within athletics, including Development, ticket operations, event management and guest services. He also oversees the Nebraska men’s and women’s basketball programs. Boehm serves as the liaison to Pinnacle Bank Arena, the NU Foundation and the Nebraska Alumni Association. Boehm, who previously oversaw the efforts of the facilities, marketing, media relations and HuskerVision areas within the athletic department, played a primary role in negotiations for Nebraska’s contract extension with IMG College Sports. To date, it is the largest multi-media rights contract in college atheltics. As the primary administrator for the NU basketball programs, Boehm played an integral role in the hiring of Tim Miles as the Huskers’ new coach in March of 2012. In 2013-14, Miles earned the Jim Phelan Award as the national coach of the year, after capturing Big Ten Coach-of-the-Year honors from his peers earlier in the season.
Boehm also played a lead role during the men’s and women’s basketball programs move into Pinnacle Bank Arena in 2013-14. He also worked to help develop Nebraska’s new practice facility - the Hendricks Training Complex - which opened in October of 2011. Boehm has worked to create a fan-friendly atmosphere at men’s and women’s basketball, leading to record-setting attendances and season ticket sales for both programs. In 2013-14, the men’s basetball program sold out its season tickets for the entire season in May of 2013 in anticipation of the first season at Pinnacle Bank Arena and Coach Miles’ second Husker team. The more than 15,000 Husker fans that packed the new arena watched the Big Red roll to a 15-1 home reccord on their way to the 2014 NCAA Tournament. It was the fifith postseason trip for the men’s basketball program since Boehm’s arrival. NU ranked 13th nationally in average home attendance (15,419) on its way to a top-four regular-season finish with an 11-7 record in the powerful Big Ten Conference while going 19-13 overall. Under Boehm’s supervision, Coach Connie Yori’s women’s basketball program has enjoyed the most success in school history over the past nine years. The Husker women have earned seven NCAA Tournament bids, including a pair of NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2010 and 2013 and two more trips to the NCAA second round. The Huskers have produced the four highest single-season win totals in NU history over the past six years. The Big Red have also finished the season ranked in the top 25 in four of the past six seasons - the first four top-25 final national rankings in school history. In 2013-14, Yori’s Huskers won their first-ever conference tournament title, claiming the Big Ten crown with a 3-0 run at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Huskers finished with a 26-7 overall record that included a 12-4 Big Ten mark for the second straight year. NU earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round. Boehm also played a lead role in bringing NCAA Tournament basketball back to Licnoln for the first time since 1993, as the Husker women played host to the NCAA Lincoln Regional. Eventual national champion Connecticut, Texas A&M, DePaul and BYU battled it out for a spot in the 2014 NCAA Women’s Final Four. The two sessions attractted well over 17,000 fans as one of the most successful sites in the tournament.
During the regular season, the Husker women ranked No. 8 nationally in total home attendance with more than 110,000 fans flocking to the arena as the Huskers tied a school record with 16 home victories. NU’s average home attendance of 6,161 fans per game ranked 11th in the country. Yori, who joined Miles in winning Big Ten Coach-of-the-Year honors from the conference coaches in 2014, earned her third league coach-of-the-year award in the last five season. She was also a consensus national coach-of-the-year in 2010. Boehm, who played a significant role in aiding Nebraska’s functional transition to the Big Ten Conference in 2011-12, was also instrumental in conceptualizing and developing the Husker Nation Paviliion, which is the premier pregame event around home football games. Boehm also took the lead rold in obtaining First National Bank and Ameritas as premier sponsors for the Nebraska Athletic Department for a combined deal worth more than $7 million over a three-year period. First National Bank and Ameritas joined Verizon, Pepsi and adidas as premier corporate sponsors for Husker athletics. Boehm held the same position at Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2003. Boehm assisted in the rise of the Panthers’ basketball program with the men’s team posting back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament. During construction of the Panthers’ new athletic facilities, Boehm played a central role in Pitt’s athletic teams moving to the UPMC Sports Performance Complex, Heinz Field and the Petersen Events Center. Boehm served as interim athletic director at Pittsburgh for nearly five months before coming to Nebraska. During that time, he hired men’s basketball head coach Jamie Dixon. Boehm also spent five years as associate executive director of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. He directed and managed a 125-member fund-raising committee of Arizona business people responsible for generating more than $4.5 million in cash and in-kind partnerships. Previously he spent four years as associate executive director and public relations director of the Sun Bowl from 1987 to 1991. Born in Grand Island, Boehm earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Kansas State in 1984 and added a master’s degree in sports management from St. Thomas (Fla.) University in 1985. Boehm and his wife, the former Janelle Broderick of Minot, N.D., have three boys, Broderick, Christian, and Lukas.

BOYERS CLAIM BIG TEN INDOOR TITLE
Brothers Dusty (left) and Toby Boyer (right) capped a strong 2015 fall season for the Huskers by capturing the doubles championship at the Big Ten Indoor Tournament in Iowa City. Toby, a freshman for the Huskers in 2016, added a runner-up finish in singles.
Dusty Boyer captured first-team All-Big Ten honors for the second straight season to lead a maturing Nebraska men’s tennis team to a successful season in 2015. Boyer and a strong junior class helped the Huskers climb as high as No. 58 in the ITA rankings during the season. However, the strength of Nebraska’s schedule, which included 14 of 25 matches against top-75 teams, and the fact that the Huskers played 15 of 25 matches on the road, eventually caught up to the Big Red. The Huskers, who played their final season without a permanent indoor and outdoor home, finished with an 11-14 record. The Big Red finished with a 6-4 home record, including back-to-back Big Ten home wins over Michigan State and Michigan, March 27 and 29. Those clutch conference wins pushed the Huskers to 9-7 on the season. After a 4-3 win at Purdue on April 5, the Huskers held a 10-8 overall record and a 3-3 Big Ten mark. But the Big Red lost six of its final seven matches down the stretch. The lone highlight came with a 4-3 win over Michigan State in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on April 23. Nebraska opened its 2015 campaign by playing its first seven matches on the road. Nebraska’s 2015 lineup did not feature a single senior, as a five-player junior class led by Boyer continued to grow its leadership for an emerging Husker program. Boyer continued to grow as a star for the Huskers, pushing his career combined victory total to 111 with his second straight 20-win season as Nebraska’s No. 1 singles competitor. Boyer produced an impressive 7-3 record in Big Ten play, finishing the season with a 21-12 overall singles record.
Off the court, Boyer captured first-team academic All-Big Ten honors for the second straight year. He added a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. He was far from alone in earning academic and community honors among the Huskers. In fact, every member of Nebraska’s sophomore and junior classes earned academic all-conference honors and at least one award for outstanding citizenship. Junior Marc Herrmann continued his consistency playing out of the No. 2 singles spot for the Huskers. The German finished with a 13-17 singles record while adding an 11-13 doubles mark. A three-year starter on the court, Herrmann added academic All-Big Ten honors for the second straight year. He was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2015, after claiming Nebraska’s Big Ten Sportsmanship awards in 2013 and 2014. Juniors Andrew Dzulynsky, Scott Elsass and Bradford Zitsch all added academic All-Big Ten accolades for the Big Red while contributing valuable victories in both singles and doubles on the court. Zitsch added higher honors with his second straight selection as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. He also claimed Nebraska’s 2015 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award while adding recognition on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Dzulynsky and Elsass were also members of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Sophomore Chris Schindler added spectacular performances off the court as well, earning mention as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, an academic All-Big Ten selection and as a winner of a prestigious Nebraska StudentAthlete HERO Leadership Award. He was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Schindler also went undefeated in singles and
doubles during spring competition for the Huskers. An unranked Nebraska squad opened the 2015 season with a hard-fought 5-2 loss at No. 25 Oklahoma State (Jan. 17), before suffering a similar 5-2 setback to No. 38 Drake in Des Moines (Jan. 30). Nebraska battled back with a 7-0 road win at Eastern Illinois (Jan. 31) before knocking off No. 66 Denver, 4-3, in the Mile High City (Feb. 7). The win over the Pioneers earned the Huskers a No. 66 national ranking from the ITA. After road setbacks at SMU (Feb. 14) and Oregon (Feb. 20), the Huskers responded with a solid 4-3 win at Santa Clara (Feb. 21) to complete their seven-game road swing over the first five weeks of the season. Nebraska rolled to 7-0 sweeps of South Dakota State and Creighton on Feb. 28 to propel the Big Red to No. 58 in the ITA rankings. The Huskers suffered a 6-1 setback at No. 66 Wichita State (March 8) but bounced back with 7-0 sweeps of UMKC and Omaha on March 14 in Lincoln. Nebraska opened Big Ten action with a 5-2 loss at Wisconsin (March 20) before suffering a 5-2 loss at home to No. 25 Minnesota (March 22). The Big Red bounced back at home with a 4-3 win over Michigan State (March 27) before an impressive 4-0 sweep of Michigan (March 29) to put Nebraska back in the top 75. The Huskers split with Indiana (6-1 loss, April 3) and Purdue (4-3 win, April 5) before closing the regular season with five straight losses to fall out of the rankings. Nebraska closed the season at the Big Ten Tournament, notching a 4-3 win over Michigan State, before falling to highly ranked Ohio State.
Marc Herrmann capped his junior season with a 1317 singles record. Herrmann also earned academic All-Big Ten honors for the second straight season.

“When I tell my friends and family in California about the University of Nebraska and how great the people and sports programs are, it’s never fully appreciated until you step off the plane and onto the campus. The entire city and really the whole state supports the University of Nebraska. I really enjoyed the sense of community where everyone was very helpful and very friendly every day we were there.” Steven Jung 1989 NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Runner-Up 2015 Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee The athletic academic unit, located in the Dick and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex, provides personal and academic support to ensure that student-athletes will get the most out of their years as Huskers. Featuring one of the most innovative and comprehensive academic support systems in the country, Nebraska is dedicated to helping its student-athletes become outstanding leaders in their chosen fields. The academic support team is composed of 14 full-time staff members and is certified by the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) as meeting the standards established by the N4A.
Academic Counseling
Seven academic counselors, three learning specialists and two assistant academic counselors are in place to monitor daily academic progress, receive consistent course feedback, assist with the advising/registration process and monitor continuing eligibility and progress toward graduation.
Tutorial Support
A tremendous resource for all academic abilities, unlimited tutorial support from approximately 120 tutors on staff is available from day one up to college graduation in all subject areas. The tutorial program is certified as a model tutoring program by the College Reading and Learning Association.
Study Hall
Nebraska’s study hall program is housed in the D.J. Sokol Enrichment Center within the Student Life Complex. Student-athletes attend a supervised, flex-time study hall that features day, evening and weekend hours. Student-athletes are required to complete a specific number of study hours each week as determined by their academic counselor and/or coach. Additional performance-based or tutor-based study hall also may be determined by the academic counselor.
Mentoring
Academic support staff serve as mentors to all incoming student-athletes and a select group of returning student-athletes. Student-athletes meet with their mentor weekly to develop time management skills, gather and report academic progress information, and discuss academic success strategies.
Educational Assessments
Assessments are administered upon the request of the student-athlete, academic counselor, or coach. Learning specialists are available to administer and score informal assessments, which include a reading comprehension and a writing assessment. When more in-depth assessments are necessary, referrals are made to a consulting psychologist who conducts the assessments. If it is determined a student-athlete has a learning disability or another medical condition that impedes the student from reaching their academic potential, appropriate accommodations are implemented by the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.
Student-Athlete Orientation
Each new student-athlete attends an orientation at the beginning of their academic career. Student-athletes are introduced to staff, faculty, administrators, and a variety of resources that help facilitate the transition into college while enhancing awareness of support services in the Athletic Department and across campus.
Personal Counseling
Student-athletes will find a supportive and caring environment at Nebraska. Transitional issues, stress management, time management, academic focus and problem resolution are all addressed in a proactive manner throughout the year. If necessary, counseling referrals are also made to designated practitioners.
Computer Resources
The Herman Student Life Complex has two computer labs available for student-athletes. The Scott Technology Center features two tech tables for use on group computer projects and group study sessions. Additionally, each student-athlete is provided a laptop for use throughout their academic career at Nebraska. Construction was completed in the fall of 2010 on the Nebraska Student Life Complex, which nearly tripled the size of NU’s previous academic space. The Dick and Peg Herman Family Student Life Complex also features a new technology center and a dedicated Life Skills area and the Papik Computer lab (left).

STUDENT-ATHLETE LIFE Nebraska Athletics is one of the few self-sustaining intercollegiate athletic programs in the country. Nebraska is a leader in providing all the resources and support necessary for student-athletes to become successful in Academics, Athletics and Life. Nebraska will continue to strategically plan for avenues to strengthen the resources to support more than 600 Husker student-athletes.
In August of 2014, the NCAA Division I Board of Directors restructured the way member institutions and conferences govern themselves. Nebraska has a great history and tradition of providing first-class benefits and support to its student-athletes. The change in governance, and subsequent legislation, has paved the way for Nebraska to enhance the benefits and experiences for student-athletes even more. A few examples of these enhanced benefits are: · All scholarship student-athletes across all sports will have their scholarship calculated based on the full cost of attendance. · Every student-athlete (including Jessica Shepard pictured above with Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst) will receive an Apple MacBook Air laptop computer to enhance their learning opportunities. · Nebraska has increased resources and support in all academic and performance-related areas including Academic Services, Life Skills, Athletic Medicine, Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition and Dining Services. · Nebraska created the first-known post-eligibility benefit program, where every student-athlete, who has graduated and exhausted their athletic eligibility, will have the opportunity to pursue an internship, participate in a study abroad program or attend graduate school in the University system with Nebraska’s support.
Life Skills Awards
Chris Schindler (left) earned a prestigious Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2015. Former Husker Eric Sock (right) also earned the honor in 2013, which is presented by Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst to deserving student-athletes across all sports at Nebraska who are the most committed to community service.

NEBRASKA LIFE SKILLS Big Red Go Global
Nebraska traveled to Guatemala over the summer in 2015 in a group called “No Filter” including 18 studentathletes and two N Club alumni, one of which was former women’s tennis All-American Mary Weatherholt (pictured below middle). While abroad, the Huskers spent five days constructing a soccer/basketball sports area and amphitheater for El Esfuerzo Chimaltenango. The group also participated in cultural activities that included salsa dancing, hiking a cultural landmark, riding horseback up an active volcano, having a soccer tournament and hand-making chocolate.
Nebraska Life Skills Program
Widely regarded as the premier and most comprehensive Life Skills program in college athletics, the Husker program is committed to providing proactive education, resources and support throughout college and beyond, promoting total person development and preparation for life after sports. Five full-time staff members and one graduate assistant coordinate a wide array of services benefiting Husker student-athletes.
Proactive Education
The Life Skills team organizes orientations designed to acclimate student-athletes to college life. All new studentathletes also attend the fall semester Husker Life Seminar. The interactive class promotes responsible decisionmaking, personal brand, financial literacy, leadership, involvement and service.
Individual Meetings
Every Nebraska student-athlete is assigned a Life Skills Coordinator who will arrange multiple individual meetings throughout the academic year aimed at enhancing personal and career development. The meetings help each student-athlete identify a career focus and implement a plan to increase career marketability.
Career Commitment
Annually, Nebraska Life Skills organizes a StudentAthlete Career Fair, Networking Night (pictured bottom right) and other career events aimed at connecting Huskers with companies desiring competitive, hardworking, accountable candidates. Athlete Network and Husker Hire Link provide opportunities to explore career opportunities across the country.
Community Outreach
Nebraska student-athletes readily accept the rolemodel challenge collectively giving more than 6,500 hours annually to impact thousands, both young and old alike, throughout the entire state of Nebraska. Outreach events include but are not limited to hospital visits, mentoring, school assemblies, statewide rallies, Make-A-Wish, NFL Play 60 and Husker Heroes.
Leadership
Nebraska Life Skills provides student-athletes with endless opportunities to enhance leadership skills while distinguishing themselves from the competition. Student-athletes can be members of the StudentAthlete Advisory Committee, Uplifting Athletes Chapter or Husker Distinction Council. On campus, UNL offers more than 600 recognized student organizations allowing athletes to collaborate with other campus leaders for a common goal. Annually, Nebraska Life Skills funds and coordinates a one week service abroad trip allowing nearly 20 student-athletes to come together for a common goal while enriching cultural competencies.
RECOGNITION
In 2014-15, a record 37 Husker Football student-athletes were named to both the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and Brook Berringer Citizenship Team for completing a minimum of six service projects in the calendar year. There are a host of other recognition opportunities both at the institutional, Big Ten and NCAA level which all reflect on the high ideals, character and servant leadership nurtured through community involvement.
POST-ELIGIBILITY OPPORTUNITIES
A Tradition of Student-Athlete Excellence
Former Nebraska All-American Steven Jung (back center) celebrated with more than 20 members of his family when he was inducted as a member of the inaugural class of the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame in September of 2015. Jung, who was the NCAA Singles runner-up in 1989, was also a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American the same season. CHAMPIONS IN ATHLETICS, ACADEMICS, LIFE Nebraska men’s tennis is a program on the rise, and the Huskers broke through with their first-ever NCAA Championship appearance in 2010. The Huskers, under the direction of Head Coach Kerry McDermott (pictured right), made it back-to-back trips in 2011, and are planning to make an NCAA Championship trip a common theme. The winningest coach in Nebraska history, McDermott is closing in on his 400th career dual victory since taking the reins of the program in 1982. In addition to achieving success on the court, members of the Nebraska men’s tennis program strive for success in the classroom and in the community. In 2008, the men’s tennis team claimed its sixth Herman Men’s Team GPA Award with better than a 3.1 gradepoint average. Husker student-athletes also are annually among the league leaders in conference academic honors. Nebraska welcomes the dawn of a new era in Husker tennis with the opening of the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in 2016. The new on-campus facility features six indoor courts and 12 well-lit outdoor championship courts with Olympic-caliber surfaces.
Bottom Right: Dusty Boyer could contend for a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 2016. The two-time All-Big Ten selection owns back-to-back 20-win seasons in singles for the Huskers. Coach Kerry McDermott has helped 10 players reach the NCAA Tournament in singles or doubles. Above: Steven Jung was Nebraska’s first All-American and ranks as the Husker career leader with 114 wins, including a school-record 44 wins in 1989. He finished second at the 1989 NCAA Championships. In 2015, Jung was one of the inaugural inductees into the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame. SEASON PREVIEW . COACHES . ADMINISTRATION . 2015-16 HUSKERS . REVIEW . HISTORY . THIS IS NEBRASKA
