Words of Comfort - Rev. Dr. Joseph Oniyama
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father There is not shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been Thou for ever will be.
Refrain Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand has provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me. Summer and Winter, and Spring-time and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above, Join with all nature in manifold witness To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Refrain Pardon for sin and a peace that endurath, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
Barbara Louise Scott-Holder (nee Grant) was born on September 11, 1932, in Newark, NJ and departed this life on October 4, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary Frances Oliver Grant and George W. Grant, Sr. She was also predeceased by her loving brother, George W. Grant, Jr. Prior to becoming a resident of Barbados, Barbara was a resident of East Orange for 67 years (1952 until her death). She spent her youth in Vaux Hall, NJ, graduating from Jefferson Jr. High School in June 1946. She was also a graduate of Central High School, Newark, NJ Class of June 1950. While at Central High School, Barbara was the first African American to hold office in Central High School’s National Honor Society. While employed by the Port Authority, Barbara was named as an “Outstanding Black Achiever in Industry for 1974” by the Harlem Branch YMCA. She shared this honor with her dear, dear friend, Clara Colson. Barbara was also a Basic Office Practices Instructor in a joint project, sponsored by the City of New York and the Port Authority, which provided office skills and assitance to unemployed persons entering the work force. When there, she was an active member of The American Women’s Club of Barbados. Barbara and Rudy’s love of travel, especially cruises, took them throughout the United States, Bermuda and Canada and practically three-quarters of the Caribbean Islands. They knew how to enjoy life! Barbara will long be remembered as a beloved wife, devoted mother, loving aunt and cousin, and a faithful friend. She is survived by her beloved husband, Rudolph Holder; devoted son, Garfield Scott, Jr.; wonderful daughter-in-law, Cynthia Scott; nieces, Karen Neal and Jennifer Holder; nephews, Barry Grant and Darryl Grant (Brigette); brother-in-law, Owen Holder; grand children, great-great nieces and nephews; devoted cousins by the dozens, and many faithful, life-long friends, too numerous to mention, for fear of causing hard feelings!
God is the joy and the strength of my life He moves all pain, misery and strife. He promised to keep me, never to leave me, He’s never, ever come short of His word. I’ve got to fast and pray, stay in the narrow way. I’ll keep my life clean every day. I want to go with Him when He comes back. I’ve come too far and I’ll never turn back.
God is, God is, God is, God is God is my all and all God is my all nd all
