The Life Reflection

Dorothy Lee Thomas Dixon was born in Sumter, South Carolina on Wednesday, March 9, 1932 to the late Willie and Anne Fields Thomas. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. Dorothy was educated in the South Carolina school system. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending the Brockington Street Church of God in Timmonsville, South Carolina. Dorothy met and married the late Willie Dixon in 1949 and from this union they had nine children. She worked as a housekeeper at Martland Medical Center in South Carolina until her relocation to New Jersey in 1965, where she raised and educated her children in the Newark School System. After moving to New Jersey, Dorothy joined the Community Church of God in Newark, New Jersey, where she remained a faithful member for 55 years. Sister Dorothy was the oldest member of Community Church of God, Newark in membership years. She loved her Pastor James Dargan and First Lady Mary Dargan. She was a part of CCOG’s traveling prayer group that would go from home to home to pray on Friday evenings. Dorothy was a dedicated and faithful usher. Even when she physically couldn’t stand she would sit near her post in uniform. She traveled with the local and state Ushers to many different places until she became too sick to travel. “Ma” as she is affectionately known loved God and her family. She loved to travel and she loved visiting her family. She enjoyed the many barbeques the family would have during the summer. Ma enjoyed celebrating life, get-togethers and praying together. She was loved and respected by everyone that knew her. Ma’s favorite scripture was John 3:16 and her favorite song was “Precious Lord”. Dorothy was preceded in death by her: three sons, Isiah Dixon, Johnny Dixon and Charles Harry Dixon; one daughter, Idella Dixon; and one brother, James Thomas. Dorothy Lee Thomas Dixon leaves a legacy of love to her: children, Carolyn (Charles) Sessoms of PA, Dorothine (Frank) Dunkins of NJ, Barbara Alexander of NJ, James Dixon of OH, and Terry (Tasha) Dixon of NY; one spiritual daughter, Dorothy Patterson of NJ; one brother, Woodrow (Eva Lou) Thomas of SC; one sister, Annie Mae Kirkland of NY; and one uncle, Elerece Thomas of NY. She also leaves to cherish her memory 20 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

“Ma”

We have a vision of a woman you know, we call her “Ma”, God saw her getting tired and a cure was not to be, Si He whispered, “Dorothy, come and go with Me”.

A precious woman is gone, a voice we loved is stilled,

A place is vacant in our hearts, which never can be filled. Few have seen us weep,

So many tears we shed at night while others are asleep.

God gave us strength to bear it and courage to let her go. How much we will miss her, no one will ever know.

God looked around His garden and saw an empty space, And then looked down on earth and saw “Ma’s” face. He put His arms around her and lifted her to rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful for He only takes the best. Farewell Ma, be still our hearts,

Now it’s time for “Ma” to depart

Great and Merciful is the Lord God Almighty, who alone fills His children with His Holy Spirit. The Lord blessed Mother in many ways.

Though notable for all to see was the gift of love and compassion. She was a living example of “Love thy neighbor as thyself. Mother’s hand and heart was always open to anyone hurting or in need.

There is no doubt Mother was saved

and loved the Lord with all her heart.

Mother also loved to travel, she loved visiting her family. She truly was not one to sit still.

Mother also had a great love for hats. So to honor her all of her daughters

and granddaughters are wearing her hats in her memory.
