The Life Reflection Dr. William Deprea Hood was born on July 22, 1934, in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina to the loving parents of James and Margaret Hood. He was the youngest of 7 siblings, one brother James and five sisters Sarah, Mattie, Naomi, Ruth, and Lula. William was brought up with a strong Christian foundation, which has followed him throughout his entire life. William received his primary education in Monroe, Union County, and then went to North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, where he studied animal husbandry. In 1958 after completing 3 1/2 years in college he decided to enlist in the army. He obtained the rank of specialist in light weapons Infantry and received the “Good Conduct Medal” prior to his honorable discharge in 1960. After William was discharged, he went into the Air Force Reserve. He also went back to A&T University and finished his studies receiving his BS. He was active with so many groups and was proud to be inducted as a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. William being interested in animal sciences he furthered his studies at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama where he graduated with his doctorate in Veterinary medicine. Dr. William D. Hood decided to go to New York City after he became a Veterinarian where he did research at Rockefeller Institute until he decided to open his practice in Laurelton Queens. He joined some of his family, which had migrated from North Carolina including Uncle Samuel Crowe of “Crowe’s Funeral Home”, Jamaica NY. Dr. Bill as he was called by most set up his practice and named it Laurelton Animal Clinic in 1968. He served the community and made so many associations and friendships throughout the years, which turned into a family. He was honored by Laurelton Civic Association and continued his services until he retired 40 years later. Dr. Bill always was seen walking down the street with his white lab coat with a pep in his step and his illuminating spirit. Once he closed his clinic doors, he still helped the families in need at his home until it was not possible. In the early 1980s, Dr. Bill met Marsha Anne Shearer. They became friends, fell in love and married in November 1982. Dr. Bill had met the love of his life, and it was very evident it was mutual within Marsha’s heart. Marsha called Dr. Bill “her best husband ever” he was her 5th husband but it was wonderful Dr. Bill had waited for her to find him. They both had amazing spirits having so much love for people and children. Eventually, Dr. Bill’s passion for animals even infected his wife. Dr. Bill and Marsha fostered many children over the years having a positive influence on them, with so many calling them grandpa and grandma after going home. One of the young children Regina Lawton now grown she still has so many positive memories and has always claimed the Hood’s as her family. Dr. Bill and Marsha also adopted their beloved son, Reynold, who has brought them both so much happiness. One of Dr. Bill’s strength was positivity he never complained about any challenges he may have encountered. He would always say he was “good.” Dr. Bill also never talked badly about anyone. He would flash a smile and light up the room. He was a quiet and gentle soul with a big heart filled with love, which he shared with everyone he touched of his wife, Marsha being number one! Dr. Bill stayed strong for a long time showing his determination and resilience as he loved life but became tired. On January 2nd, 2018 Dr. William Deprea Hood joined his wife, Marsha, who he missed and wanted to be with again dancing and walking in the sunshine. He also joined his six siblings, who preceded him. Dr. Bill leaves his son, Reynold Hood; his daughters through his marriage, Lisa Avery & Deidre Avery-Burt and his son in law, Morris Burt; his best friend, Fraternity brother and brother in law, Bracie Washington; and all his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to numerous to list. However, his nephew, James Hood was truly special to him as Dr. Bill did make us all feel so special. So let us now give thanks for the blessed life of Dr. William D. Hood - We love and miss you and will NEVER forget you well done good and faithful servant! Rest Well! “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord!’ Lovingly submitted, The Family

God’s Love Enfolds Me

The passing of a loved one brings pain unlike any other. Divorce or the loss of a job can shake self confidence to the core. Leaving me afraid and feeling overwhelmed. Still even in the darkest moments of my life, God is there for me at all times and in all ways. When I feel most alone, God is with me to guide my actions and soothe my fears. When I am worried or afraid, God takes that worry and fear and transforms them to feelings of calm assurance. In God’s loving embrace I find comfort and peace. I let go of worries about the future. Because I know God’s loving presence is with me always. I know in my heart that in spite of appearances, to the contrary, my life will get better and I will find the happiness I seek.
