MISSISSIPPI MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH OF GOD Reverend Duane Parker Credentials Chairman PO Box 542 Laurel, MS 39440 601-428-5342 Dr. Bob Neace, State Minister 4704 Roanoke Road, Christiansburg, VA 24073

November 29, 2013

Dear Brother Neace, Greetings, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I trust that all is well in the state ministry in Virginia and that you are preparing for a wonderful celebration in remembrance of our Savior’s birth. I write to you today with very mixed emotions regarding Brother Simeon Green. The first emotion is sadness. Frankly, we are sorry to see him leave Mississippi. In his short tenure here, he has raised the bar on so many fronts. His service as a member of our Board of Elders for the newly merged General Assembly has been invaluable and will be sorely missed. His voice has been one that has brought me much accountability in my role. He follows through and kindly, politely, but firmly asks the same of those with whom he works. His administrative gifts and talents have been invaluable as we sought to bring together our African-American and Anglo assemblies into a unified force for God. We will surely miss his labors among us. The second emotion is joy, not that he is leaving, but at having had the chance to know him at all. He is visionary and a capable leader in this new paradigm of church work. It did not take him very long after arriving in Mississippi to establish a column in the state-wide newspaper that reports the news from a decidedly ‘black’ perspective. His comments and columns have been encouraging and yet firmly grounded in the Word of God and in our pursuit of holiness. Secondly, he led the congregation to establish a radio ministry that reached mainly the community where he served. What joy to know a man of God who is not afraid to challenge the people of God to reach the world for God. The third and final emotion is one of expectation and anticipation. First we are glad that Brother Green is still listening to the voice of God. Our prayer for him and for the ministry to which he has been called is that God would prosper all that he puts his hand to do. We look forward to hearing about how God is leading, guiding and using our precious brother in this new work and pray that coming home will be a sweet reunion, but more than that, that he will be able to effectively lead those who have known him and not be hampered by prior perceptions. Finally, I write to you as Paul did to the leaders in Corinth regarding Timothy’s coming. “… see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord… “ (1 Cor. 16:10) In Christ, Duane Parker, Credentials Chairman, Elder Board Chairman

—CHARGE TO THE PASTOR— To accept a call to serve as pastor is to accept a call to serve as shepherd. It is a call to lead. It is a call to protect. It is a call to courage and to love. It is a call to sacrifice. It is a call, like no other--to reflect the very Person and Spirit of Christ. To accept the call to serve as pastor is to accept the highest calling. Such a call cannot be fulfilled without standing by three primary commitments, each in turn, each following the other. FIRST, A PASTOR MUST WALK WITH CHRIST. He must be absolutely and unequivocally devoted to standing in the shadow of the Master. A pastor must tune his heart to hear the Lord’s voice and fix his gaze on Jesus only. A pastor must embrace Jesus as both Lord and Savior, as Teacher and Friend, as Companion and Captain. About this there must never be a question. Do you, Rev. Dr. Simeon R. Green, III, reaffirm here today your commitment to Christ? SECOND, A PASTOR MUST LOVE HIS SPOUSE AS CHRIST LOVED TH CHURCH. He must honor his family and provide for his children both a model of Christian personhood and a home that remains always a sanctuary. He must devote himself to being the husband of father God has destined him to be: So you, Reverend Dr. Simeon R. Green, III, reaffirm here today your commitment to prove your love to Christ by the way in which you love your family? AND THIRD, A PASTOR MUST LOVE HIS PEOPLE. He must watch over them and guard them. He must stand up for them and defend them. He must challenge and provoke them to good works and faithfulness. He must walk ahead of them and, at the same time, walk with them. He must always draw them near to Christ and cause them to ask, “What would Jesus do? He must pray for them, care for them; he must be willing to deny himself for them. He must help them to see themselves by heavens’ light and inspire them to see the world as God purposed it to be. He must be devoted to his wholeness by the witness of his own holiness. Do you, Reverend Dr. Simeon R. Green, III, here today accept such a call and promise to serve this wonderful people of God as their pastor? Well, then, I charge you this day, March 30, 2014, as a fellow minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and on behalf of the Church of God, to be faithful to your calling. May God hold you close always, prosper the work at Joynes Road Church of God entrusted to your care, and give you peace and wisdom for Jesus’ sake, Amen.

Chorus

Through it all Through it all I’ve learned to trust in Jesus I’ve learned to trust in God Through it Through it all I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.

Lord, Help Our Pastor Lord, help our Pastor, we pray There are many obstacles in his way Every burden help him to bear Dear Lord, keep him in Your tender care Give him strength and the ability To care for the church and his family Lord, there is so much he has to do He can’t do alone, he surely needs You So shelter him in Your loving arms Safe from all danger and unseen harm Guard his mouth, his heart and mind Remove every tittle of sin and pride Keep him in the hour of temptation May he not be moved by Satan’s persuasion Remove all fears, Lord, remove all doubt By Your Spirit, Lord, be in his mouth So that he will speak a word that is due And bring Your dear people closer to You In Jesus Name, Amen.
