Rudy Fletcher, affectionately known as “Dolemite” was the son of the late Doris Fletcher and Rufus Dorsey. He was born in Hempstead, New York on March 30, 1953; and raised on 129th Street.
Rudy received his formal education at Public School 68, Wadleigh Junior High, and Hempstead High School. For many years he worked in maintenance, and later he became a mail carrier, retiring from the United States Post Office.
Rudy met and eventually married his gorgeous wife, Cynthia Robinson Fletcher in 1993. Their bond was full of love and care, and they shared that with their children and grandchildren. Rudy had a true affection for all of his grandchildren. He was a family man and leaves his wife and family with so many fond memories that they will cherish forever.
Some of those memories of Rudy includes his love of basketball. He was a dedicated NY Knicks fan. He loved his dog, Roxie. And most importantly, Rudy was a man of faith, he attended the Greater Central Baptist Church in Harlem.
Rudy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cynthia Robinson Fletcher; his children, Eric Davis, Porscha Fletcher, Dijon Reid, Ronnie Markice James, Luckie Robinson Fletcher and stepdaughter, Latoya Plant; daughters-in-law, Dana Davis and Maria Reid; sons-inlaw, Jay Carter and Josh Gnatt; grandchildren, Eric Jr., Shaylinn, Marie, Thomas, Tameyah, Javante, Emanuel, Asher, Malachi, Destiny, Unique, Maurice, Ya’mia, Lay Lay, Josh, Daliyah, Moore aka “Head Detective”, Jaidyn, Eijah, Emory, and Zaire Foster; great grands, Melanie, Eva, and Angelo; sister, Romaine Dunn; sister-in-law, Bernadine Owens; nephew, Javon Curley; godson, Damion Allen; godsister, Michelle Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other dear family and friends.
I’m Free
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I’m following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard Him call I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it up with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh, yes these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free!
