A Congregational Tribute By Members of Shiloh Baptist Church To Pastor Brantley, Great Man of God!

Congratulations on your Fifth Anniversary! To God be the glory for you, Pastor Malachia Brantley, a man of God after God’s own heart. God has given us a pastor with a vision. A man of God abounding in love and faith for God’s people. We have come this far by FAITH; [We] Love You Because of your dedication to God and to Shiloh Baptist Church, we can truly say we have grown so much under your leadership. We thank God so much for you with your preaching, teaching, enthusiasm and joy. You give us hope for the victory in Jesus. May God continue to bless you to be the Shepherd that you are.

Pastor Brantley,

Continue to stay on the Great Road of being our Shepherd. Thank you for your Praying Spirit. Thank you for your prayers, your anointing and your confidence in me and my family. Thank you, Pastor, you have been and continue to be a blessing in my family’s life. May God continue to Bless you. May the Heavens pour you out a Blessing that you will not have room enough to receive; That it be in so much excess that it run down like the anointing from Aaron’s beard. Many blessings to you and yours. We’ll continue to pray for you and your family. May God continue to bless you year after year. But what we like most of all is your “SHOUT”. Happy Anniversary!

- Malachia BRANTLEY, JR. Malachia Brantley, Jr., the son of Malachia and Katheryn Brantley, is a native of Newark, New Jersey. Pastor Brantey is the fifth child, third son of six children. Growing up in Newark, public education gave him his academic foundation. Graduating in the first graduation class of Science High School of Newark is a proud accomplishment for him. Malachia is a graduate from Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, Blanton- Peal School of Religious Institutes and New York Theological Seminary. In completing four units of Clinical Pastoral Education, he is a candidate for accreditation with the Association of Professional Chaplains. Pastor Brantley’s religious training began at Zion Holy Church in Newark. Attending Sunday School, Y.P.H.A. and District Youth Services gave him opportunities to develop and enhance his gifts. During his teenage years, his travels with the church were nationwide, spanning from Florida to California. After serving the National Church of Mount Sinai Holy Church as President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Financial Secretary, Pastor Brantley was ordained as an Elder in the Mount Sinai Church. Upon leaving Mount Sinai Church, Pastor Brantley began attending The Cathedral- Second Baptist in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. After serving as a staff minister, Director of The Cathedral Bible Institute and working with The Assembly by the Shore, Pastor Brantley left in August 2003 to pastor Shiloh Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. Pastor Brantley is married to the former Carol Byrd of Wayne, Pennsylvania. They are the parents of four children, who are the “J” in their joy: Jennifer, Justin, Jonathan, and Jazmyn. Each child is unique and has gifts that daily glorify God. Pastor serves as a hospice Chaplain and Family support counselor for The Sharing Network. First Lady is a Surgical Technologist and full time student at Somerset Christian College pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Counseling.

- The Pastor’s Perspective I live for a challenge. Five years ago, stepping into a challenging position gave me hope. My hope is in Jesus. I believe in His ability to make old things new again. Change is challenging. This challenge is for both Pastor and congregation. When YHWH (GOD) called me as your Pastor, I had to change. Presently, I am changing. My change is not just to be a voice, but the clarion, unambiguous messenger for Shiloh Baptist Church at the Silver Lake. The challenge for Shiloh is to listen. Listening brings recognition, acceptance and agreement to follow the voice. Once we stand in unity, we begin our journey of winning and achieving. In hearing the history of Shiloh, I know your former pastors are a part of the tapestry of your heartfelt memories. This is a blessing for both you and the Church at large. Former Pastors should always hold respect in the memories of the congregation. Nevertheless, for the new Pastor and the congregation to continue making strides, we must forge forward in faith. When you make comparisons of former pastors, remember that each individual pastor had his personal philosophy and vision. All pastors are equal as pastors, but different in visions. My faith is that we (Shiloh) serve the God of Restoration. We also serve a God of Expansion. What do I desire God to Restore? I am seeing God continue the restoration of persons who are waiting to worship Him. We must Worship Christ not from tradition or habit, but with a heart for Christ. Over the past five years and now, I have seen spiritual growth in many members. Our expansion is both spiritual and physical. Let us explore expanding into new ministries to renovate our neighborhoods towards restoring Christian Family Values and upward mobility. Physically let us explore how we can be present in our neighborhood by being an anchor that all persons can respect and find comforting. Shiloh, lets keep shining and sailing while growing to be the church in God’s perspective. I thank you Shiloh, for supporting my vision as I pastor the greatest flock on this side of YHWH glory!

- Reverend Dr. Lloyd Preston-Terrell Dr. Lloyd Preston-Terrell was born in humble beginnings in Akron, Ohio. He was the seventh of ten children born to the late Charles Henry and Rebecca Pattaway Terrell. His father was a self-employed auto mechanic and his mother a homemaker. Dr. Terrell was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost on June 23, 1970. In 1971, Congressman John F. Seiberling of Ohio appointed him as a Congressional intern. A year later, he enlisted into the United States Army. He enrolled at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, as soon as his military service ended. While attending Paine College, Dr. Terrell was often invited to preach in Augusta churches. After preaching at the Antioch Baptist Church, he was introduced by a member of the congregation to Miss Marguerite Carter. Ten months later they were married. Their marriage was blessed with four children – Lloyd, Jr., Alice Marguerite, Ralph Bunche and Zelma Marguerite. From Augusta the young family moved to Akron, Ohio, where Dr. Terrell taught English at Archbishop Holban High School. In 1981, he was appointed Local Pastor of Breman Parish, a circuit of three churches in rural Georgia. A year later, he was appointed pastor of the United Methodist Church of Hazelton, Iowa and the associate pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church in Olewein, Iowa. While serving as a pastor and raising four children with his wife, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1984, Pastor Terrell was appointed pastor of Franklin-St. John’s United Methodist Church, Newark, NJ. For the next seventeen years he played an influential role in church and community leadership. Under his leadership the church grew and established a Credit Union, an After-School program, the Agape Food Ministry as well as other ministries to serve God’s people. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry degree from New York Theological Seminary in 1990 and taught Supervised Ministry at Drew University. He has written three books on prayer: “Pray, Pastor, Pray”, “Sending Up My Timber”, and “Never Too Busy to Pray”. In 2001, Dr. Lloyd Preston-Terrell was appointed by Bishop Alfred Johnson to be the District Superintendent of the new Gateway North District, Greater New Jersey Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 2005, Bishop Sudarshna Devadhar reappointed him District Superintendent. Under the leadership of Dr. Terrell, the Gateway North District started ministries such as the interns, Care Pantry, and the Blanket Ministry.

Anniversary Hymn Come Unto Me By Charles P. Jones

1. Hear the blessed Savior calling the oppressed, “O ye heavy-laden, come to Me and rest; Come, no longer tarry, I your load will bear, Bring Me ev’ry burden, bring Me ev’ry care.” 2. Are you disappointed, wand’ring here and there, Dragging chains of doubt and loaded down with care? Do unholy feelings struggle in your breast? Bring your case to Jesus, He will give you rest. 3. Stumbling on the mountains dark with sin and shame, Stumbling t’ward the pit of hell’s consuming flame, By the pow’rs of sin deluded and oppressed, Hear the tender Shepherd, “Come to me and rest.” 4. Have you by temptation often conquered been, Has a sense of weakness brought distress within? Christ will sanctify you, if you’ll claim His best, In the Holy Spirit, He will give you rest.

CHORUS

Come (Come unto me) unto Me; (Come unto me) I (I will give you rest) will give you rest; (I will give you rest) Take (Take my yoke upon you,) My yoke upon (Take my yoke upon you,) you, Hear (Hear Me and be blest;) Me and be blest; (Hear Me and be blest;) I (I am meek and lowly,) am meek and lowly, (I am meek and lowly,) Come (Come and trust my might ) and trust my might (Come and trust my might ) Come, ( Come, O come) My yoke is easy, (Come, My yoke is easy,) And ( Come, O come) my burden’s light (Come, My burden’s light.)

- A Prayer for Our Pastor Glorious Redeemer, our Lord Jesus Christ, we praise Your name, Your everlasting grace. Your bounty is marvelous; Your love for creation is untiring. It is this love that sustains us and has given us the vision of the church and church leadership. We celebrate, O God, your gift of Pastor Malachia Brantley to serve Shiloh Baptist Church. We thank you for a pastor that serves churches, hospitals, and other institutions throughout the community.

Heavenly Father, as we celebrate our Pastor’s Fifth Anniversary, we ask special grace for him and his family, their lives and ministry. Give them serenity and joy in their walk, wisdom and knowledge in their goals, and clarity and discernment in their life’s challenges. O Lord, as a church, help us to be Christ like to our pastor, church officials, and to one another. Help us to work together to bring your Word to those who are dying of spiritual malnutrition. Gracious Creator, be the rock, shield, comforter, and teacher for Pastor Brantley. Give our pastor a sense of humor and the strength to stand against powers and principalities, to preach in season and out of season, to have the courage to use fully Your holy gifts. Help us to love and appreciate our pastor. We honor and praise You, God, for sending this shepherd to lead us, and may we do Your will, O God, in serving You.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
