The prayers you said which played a part, in easing the pain that was in our heart, each helped us find the strength to bear, the loss of one we held so dear. Obituary He wished no one a last farewell, Nor even said “Goodbye” He was gone before we knew it, And only God knows why. God knows you had to leave us, but you didn’t go alone. Willie Bernard McAlister was born in Durham County, Durham, North Carolina on Monday, December 14, 1953, to the late Jonas and Louise Sanders McAlister. He quietly departed this life on July 26, 2012. Willie lived in Morrisville, North Carolina until 1956 when the family relocated to Fayetteville, NC, where he spent his formative years. He attended Ashley Elementary School, Pine Forest Senior High School and Fayetteville Technical College.

As a youth and young adult, Willie was an active member of Eureka Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board and was a member of the youth choir. As an adult, he served with the Male Chorus and Senior Choir. He loved to sing. In 1973, Willie enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served in positions of security policeman and security guard. He worked many years with the McAlister & Sons Concrete Company with his father. After his father’s death, Willie worked several years as a security guard traveling to many different places. He loved his family and children. Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Louise Sanders McAlister; two brothers, Jerry James McAlister and Joe Michael McAlister. Willie Bernard McAlister leaves a legacy of his love to: two daughters, Taranda Ray of Fayetteville, NC and Tawain Renee McKenzie (Curtis) of Thomasville, NC; one son, Khalil J. Brown of Detroit, MI; five grandchildren, Anthony Ray, Antonio Ray, Brittany Johnson, Bryce McKenzie and Laila McKenzie; five sisters, Peggy McAlister Davis of Fayetteville, NC, Joyce Faye McAlister McCall (Lewis) of Hillside, NJ, SFC (Retired) Shirley McAlister Mosley (Chester), Rachael McAlister Johnson (Lamar) and Dr. Yvette McAlister Stokes (Stephen) all of Fayetteville, NC; two brothers, TSGT (Retired) Jonas E. McAlister of Savannah, GA and Bobby W. McAlister (Shirley) of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Arrie McAlister of Fayetteville, NC; ten nieces, Angela McCall-Brown, Tia Davis Permenter (Maurice), Monique McEachern (Daniel), Christal McCall-Smith (Brian), Virginia Aanam-Ndu (Ndifreke), Reanna Cain, Kendra McAlister, Tonja McAlister, Tyesha McAlister and Simone Stokes; eight nephews, Vander Whitted, III, Tyrone Davis (Lauren), Jerry McAlister (Vanessa), Jonas McAlister, Craig Stokes (Andrita), Anthony Stokes, Erik McAlister and Julian Stokes; six great nieces, Jerrica McDonald, Kyanna McCall, Antwanette McAlister, Kirsten McEachern, London Stokes and Ravyn Aanam-Ndu; five great nephews, Jermal McAlister, Savion Brown, Seth McEachern, Alexander Permenter and Collin Permenter; one uncle, Jacob Sanders (Willie Mae) of Durham, NC; two aunts, Betreas Connor of Goldsboro, NC and Jean Alston of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Willie will be dearly missed by those who loved him. We love you Willie, rest in peace.
