— Pastoral History of the Liberty Baptist Church — Liberty Baptist Church was established in the home of Deacon David Sumpter in July 1926. Reverend Alexander Reynolds was called to pastor the church, which then moved to 124 East Jersey Street in the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Reverend Reynolds served as Pastor of Liberty until 1928.

Reverend Tyler Thomas regained his position as Pastor 1939 where he served faithfully until he was called to Glory on February 18, 1973. Reverend Kenneth Grayson was installed as pastor on April 27, 1975. Liberty Baptist church expanded its property owners under his leadership until the year 1995 when he chose to retire as standing Pastor a Liberty. Reverend Anthony Wilcot was installed as pastor on March 17, 1996. Under his leadership, he appointed Reverend Pamela Jones as Assistant Pastor. He also ordained Reverend Frances Teabout and Reverend Louis Wright. Pastor Anthony Wilcox left the Liberty Baptist church effectively July 1, 2008. After long prayer, fasting, deliberation and sacrifice, on Saturday, May 1, 2010 under the auspices of the Holy Spirit and our Officiator/Moderator, the Reverend Dr. George A. Blackwell III; Liberty Baptist Church voted in Reverend Lester W. Wormley as Pastor of the congregation.

This is a very exciting time in the history of the Liberty Baptist Church family as we sit in anticipation of what God has in store for us in this season. Over the past two years, we have been praying and seeking the Lord’s face for the future of the Liberty Baptist Church. The theme for the occasion is “GOD DID IT!” and He did just what He promised to do. We gather here on this the Lord’s day to watch the passing of the torch to the man of this hour, Reverend Lester W. Wormley, by our former pastor, Reverend Anthony W. Wilcots. We praise God for what He has done and for what He will do. Yours in Christ,

I am humbled and honored for the opportunity to serve the Liberty Baptist Church. Today is a great celebration in the history of Liberty Baptist Church not because of me but because of what the Lord has done. I stand before you today as the newly installed Senior Pastor with a clear understanding that I could not have done anything to deserve this awesome task that has been assigned to my hand and I am clear that I stand on the shoulders of some great men of God who have stood before me. I can agree with the psalmist who declared, “This is the Lord’s doing, it is marvelous in our eyes.” I appreciate the officers and members of Liberty Baptist Church for your support, love and trust. And as the theme for this glorious occasion states “God Did It” so let us celebrate together. I want you all to know that while I am grateful to God for this opportunity I am also very thankful for you. I would like to thank the pastoral search committee, the joint board and every member for helping me to adjust to my new surroundings. I am also thankful for the tireless efforts of the installation committee without whom you would not even be reading these comments. Of course, I am extremely thankful for my entire family but especially my wife Shamika and my “pride and joy” Markus and Shanice for believing in the God in me and keeping me focused. Daddy loves you! To everyone else that I did not mention by name please know that I don’t have enough time or paper to write your name and why you are important. I will say that I appreciate you all for all you have done to make this installation a great celebration. At the conclusion of this day of celebration it will be time to get back to work. It has been noted that one of my favorite passages of scripture is the Great Commission found in Matthew 28. To that end, it is my intention to impart the Word of God to you with preparation and passion in order to empower you with the ability to effectively witness. It is my prayer that the impartation and empowerment will lead to a greater ability to positively impact our families, our communities and our world to the glory of God. I first have to thank God for affording me the opportunity to serve His people and allowing me to be a part of the destiny of the Liberty Baptist Church. I am truly honored and humbled to hold a position that others before me have held with dignity, grace and class. I believe that God has put us together to do a great work for His kingdom. I would like to say to the members of the Liberty Baptist Church, that as we embark upon what the Lord has us to do, just know that as your First Lady I will work to make sure that we as a church family exemplify what it means to be Christians. With God’s help, we will work together to impact the City of Elizabeth and abroad to let them know that where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty!

Pastor Lester W. Wormley “Energetic!” “Dynamic!” “Insightful!” These are just some of the words used to describe Pastor Wormley’s ministry. Pastor Wormley was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey and was educated in the Newark public school system. He has also attended Kean University (Union, NJ) and Nyack College (Nyack, NY) to study communications and Christian education respectively. He has also graduated from the New York Theological Seminary Christian Ministry Program and is enrolled at Somerset Christian College pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies. Pastor Wormley began his leadership journey by operating in music ministry. Prior to becoming a pastor he strengthened the music ministries of churches for over 15 years. In addition, Pastor Wormley established or assisted several gospel choirs of academic institutions including Science High (Newark, NJ), Elizabeth High School (Elizabeth, NJ), Rutgers University (Newark, NJ) and Seton Hall University (South Orange, NJ). It was during these years that Pastor Wormley began to preach the Gospel and build a reputation as a capable preacher as well as a musician. His talent and commitment to ministry carried him to churches, schools and performing arts venues around the country. Pastor Wormley served as Pastor of the St. Mark Unified Free Will Baptist Church for nearly 9 years before answering his current call to serve as the Senior Pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church. Pastor Wormley is a man that has a passion for ministry and compassion for people. He is also driven to impact the community through activism, advocacy and organization. It is that passion that he brings to Liberty in order to present ministry that will free people from the constraints of the world and release them to become all that God has destined them to be. Rev. Wormley is happily married the former Shamika Parker of Elizabeth, New Jersey. They are blessed with two wonderful children that he affectionately calls his “pride and joy,” Markus and Shanice.

THE MISSION
In order to achieve the vision, our church must operate within certain guiding principles. The Bible describes the FIVE- FOLD MINISTRY that should be evident in each church in order to equip the saints, to do effective work in ministry and to build up the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12 – 13). THE FIVE-FOLD MINISTRY IS THE APOSTLES, PROPHETS, EVANGELISTS, PASTORS AND TEACHERS. Pastor Anthony W. Wilcots, Sr., M.Div, STM Pastor Anthony W. Wilcots, a native of Houston, Texas, is without a doubt one of the most gifted and dynamic young preacher/teachers in America today. He is the product of Houston public schools, a graduate with the Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Southern University (Houston, TX), the Master of Divinity degree from the School of Theology, Oral Roberts University (Tulsa, OK) and the Master of Sacred Theology degree from Yale University School of Divinity (New Haven, CT). He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Social Ethics at Drew University (Madison, N.J.). Pastor Wilcots is the heir to a great legacy of preaching and ministry through his father, Apostle E. W. Wilcots. His father has developed a national ministry of evangelism and church planting and has served as pastor of Bible Days Revival Church in Houston for over 45 years, before his return. Pastor Wilcots served as Pastor of Bible Days Revival Church of Galveston, Texas, prior to his matriculation to Oral Roberts University. His evangelistic ministry has carried him to college campuses, churches and tent crusades across America, and many foreign countries. Pastor Anthony Wilcots, Sr., served as Pastor of The Liberty Baptist Church in Elizabeth, NJ, for more than 12 years. He is currently serving as senior Pastor of the Bible Days Revival Church, “The Church of City�, in Houston, Texas. Pastor Wilcots brings a new vision to Bible Days, and plans to take the church to greater heights and new victories. He is married to Cherry Davis of Houston, TX. They have four children; Jordan Dior, Anthony Wayne, Jr., Brooke Elizabeth Antoinette and Alexander Carson.

Having been authorized by the Church to install Reverend Lester W. Wormley, our co-worker in the Gospel, as Senior Pastor, I now ask for certification of his appointment. Deacon: We, of the Liberty Baptist Church, after prayerful deliberation, have elected Reverend Lester W. Wormley to be Senior Pastor and present him for installation. Installer: Our Lord Jesus Christ says: “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” — John 20:21-23 And again, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
