It is with great pleasure that I bring to you, our local community magazine, IT’s YOUR HOME. I decided to focus on the Trinity/Odessa and surrounding areas because this is where I work, play and also call home! Each issue will be filled with information about our community and the people and businesses that make it so wonderful! Supporting our local business owners is so crucial in the future development of our community that we so lovingly refer to as “Home”. While many of us are experiencing unprecedented economic times, remember, it is the small business owners that are going to get our community back on track. Let’s all make a conscientious effort to support our local business owners right here in our own backyard. Local business owners have invested most of their life savings in their businesses and have a special interest in the long-term health of our community. These are the businesses that are essential in giving back to our community as well, whether it is charitable events, serving on local boards, or supporting a variety of causes close to our hearts. These are the folks who raise funds and support our local non-profits and help pay our taxes. One of the many things that I love about the Trinity area is the many friends and families I have come to know so well, personally and professionally. Our hometown is filled with so many amazing people that truly care. This is what empowers me to give back and help my fellow local business owners and families. After a series of car accidents when she was young, Sue recalls those traumas, “In a two-year period of time, I was hit four times, and hit hard. It is very common these days for doctors or clinics to name “their own facelift” and give it a catchy name. The fact is that doctors have been doing facelifts for over 100 years. Improvements have been made, but there are no face lifts that have no downtime, no bandages, no swelling, no bruising or no scars. Minor face procedures are wonderful but only on patients that have minor aging and little laxity of the skin. These conservative lifts have a place in cosmetic surgery but only for younger patients with minimal aging. Facelifts are like individual faces and each facelift is tailored to the individual face. Contrary to popular belief, brushing your teeth harder with an abrasive toothpaste will not make them whiter. The color of our teeth is related to the color and thickness of the enamel and underlying dentin. Certain foods and liquids such as coffee, tea, or red wine, can cause teeth to darken. Smoking is another staining power that can add years to our smile. Cracks that are commonly found in the enamel of our teeth may also provide a pathway for stain contributors to reach the underlying dentin. The whitening process does not damage teeth and has a ninety-seven percent success rate among patients, although results do vary. Teeth with tetracycline discolorations will probably need multiple whitening treatments. No drilling or anesthesia is required for whitening. However, the cleaner your teeth are, the better the results, so make sure you are up to date with
your professional cleaning. There are two types of whitening procedures available. The first is an in-office treatment and the second is an at-home. The procedures can be done separately or in conjunction with each other. The at-home technique involves using a soft, thin tray. An impression is made of your teeth, and custom whitening trays are fabricated. Whitening gel is then placed in the trays and following product instruction, they may be worn any where from 15 minutes to overnight. The in -office whitening treatment requires a 1-2 hour visit. A stronger whitening solution is applied, activated and monitored by the dentist for faster results. Possible side effects include temporary white discoloration of the gum tissue, teeth may become slightly sensitive to temperature changes, which is also temporary. There is no damage to the enamel, dentin or pulp from the whitening process.

These are children from right here in our own community”. TBA also participates in a new program for the children at the RAP House called Cook 4 Kids! The Cook 4 Kids Program serves a recognized need since YFA is partially reimbursed by the Department of Education only for breakfasts and lunches served to youth at the shelter. 4-5 members once a month volunteer to provide and cook a meal for the RAP House at the shelter. It not only allows the children to realize people in the community do care about them, but also helps strengthen the relationships between members. “We have our Scholarship Program where each year for the last three years we award a minimum of four $500 scholarships to qualifying J.W. Mitchell High School graduating seniors, or qualifying home schooled candidates, who have been accepted to attend an accredited trade or business school, community college or four year college or university”. Cindy Petika strives for greatness not only
in her business but in TBA as well. She is driven by TBA and does her best to make meetings fun and enjoyable by not making them the same each time. Of course there is always and agenda of things that need to be discussed but there is also an abundance of laughing and joking. There is also brag time where we end up bragging to the group about how one of our members spoiled one of us since the last meeting - “I LOVE when that happens!” said Petika. The businesses that make up the TBA all have common goals of growing their business while making friends. Each business involved believes in working together not just in growing each of our businesses through referrals, but when there is a personal crisis in a members’ life, they come together to do what they can and pull their resources together to make things happen to better the situation. Cindy Petika not only does her best to succeed in her business, but helps the other businesses in the community to do the same. She does her best in the community by not only being a part of it, but taking charge in it.

TO ROTH OR OR NOT TO ROTH...
As many of you are aware, the rules for Roth conversions have changed for 2010. One of these changes has opened the floodgates for those who want to convert. Everyone qualifies to convert a Traditional IRA or SEP IRA to a Roth IRA starting in 2010. There are no longer any income restrictions. The income tax owed on a conversion can be paid in 2010, or the taxable income can be spread equally in 2011 and 2012. But while the attraction of “tax free forever” can be powerful, Roth conversions can trigger unin-
tended tax traps and financial problems that are not being addressed in the mounds of 2010 Roth conversion information that currently dominates the media. In some cases, these traps may cause you to take a second look at when to convert, how much to convert, or even if you should convert at all. But unlike most situations, Roth conversions do come with a doover, or Roth recharacterization. If you have converted and later find yourself in a trap, you have until October 15th of the year after the conversion to go back and undo all or any part of the Roth conversion.
