History & Reflections
Pride in your Town
Recently, Pride in your town submitted a questionnaire to a number of senior ladies of Mount Morgan requesting they give their opinion on the questions asked. We thank them for taking the time to assist us, much appreciated. The first question was what they enjoyed most about living in Mount Morgan. It was a unanimous decision that it was the peace, easy life style, climate and the friendliness of the residents. The ladies were happy with the Medical Services available and also the assistance that is available for in-home care. They would welcome a second permanent Doctor at the hospital as that would be a wonderful benefit to the continuity of the patient with her Doctor. Also regular podiatry visits would be a great benefit to many. When asked which years were the best in Mount Morgan they all supported the 1950’s to the 1980’s. Many were married in that period, the depression years of the war were behind them, unemployment was low and Morgan Street was alive with thriving businesses and they mentioned the celebration of Christmas Eve in Morgan Street. They are hoping that with the upgrade and beautification of the Street it may come alive again with music, children enjoying Santa and receiving free balloons and lollies and perhaps some little “Devils” creating havoc with water pistols. Let’s try and make it happen. In their personal lives most do exercise by walking or gardening and enjoy a reasonable social life. They would like a building that they could just go to for a chat and a cuppa and be able to welcome new folk to our town. They agreed the pension, with great care, allowed them to manage the everyday expenses but allowed no luxuries, travel or private medical cover. They would welcome the return of the Rock business and further banking facilities, along with Brad’s Bargain business operating again. They all had many happy memories of times spent at the Big Dam and they would love to see many more functions held there and even an aquatic carnival in the future. A water drinking fountain would be an asset there also. Festival week end is a joy every year and also the local Show day. On the down side was the lack of transportation services to Rockhampton to attend medical and health appointments. The local bus service time table hours are not always suitable. Many older folk do not have cars; many have forfeited their licences and do require assistance to get to their health appointments. This does need attention by our local authorities as this service is available in other centres. Another negative they named was that no rail or bus tickets could be purchased in the town. To end on a positive note, the ladies all hope that “Carbine “ is operational soon and unemployment decreases. Morgan Street improvements will be a great asset when finished and visiting tourists will enjoy our home town and its amazing history. Think Clean - Be Tidy

Prestigious Award for Margaret
By Graeme Meade I came across these candle sticks: one wooden, one brass. The wooden one could possibly have been made locally, it has been turned on a lathe and has a brass top where the candle would sit. Margaret Baker has been a resident of Mount Morgan for seventeen and a half years, and she loves her sport. This passion will be taking her to the They came from the Mount Morgan Roman Commonwealth Games in 2018 as an Assistant Chief Range Officer. It is comprised of five different pieces held together with a long threaded bolt.
On Sunday the 19th November 2017, Margaret was awarded a coveted Life Membership of Pistol Shooting Queensland, as recognition for her work and devotion to the sport. This is not the first award Margaret has received. In 2015, at the National Awards of Excellence she received the “Official of the Year” Award from Shooting Australia. We will definitely be talking to Margaret in detail in the near future.

Games Mascot pays a special visit to our Central State School
On Monday the 20th of November Mount Morgan Central was lucky to have BOROBI the Commonwealth Games mascot visit our school (only one of 40 in the state). Children were entertained by an interactive show highlighting our sporting achievements and personalities, with some special people invited on stage to dance with BOROBI - Harpa, Ryley and Georgia! (pictured).
When Borobi was born, all his Koala kin huddled around, utterly mesmerised by him and his very different paws. Each one bore unusual markings that Grandpa Koala, thought resembled drawings of the local people who spoke the Yugambeh language. Rockhampton Regional Council Consults Mount Morgan Residents
7.
Approximately thirty Mount Morgan Residents attended the Rockhampton Regional Council Community Consultation in Mount Morgan. The School of Arts was the chosen venue for the meeting on Tuesday the 14th November 2017. Residents were treated to a sausage sizzle prior to the meeting which commenced at 6.30pm. Acting Mayor Councillor Tony Williams and Councillor Ellen Smith joined other Council representatives to update residents on works including the Morgan Street upgrade, road works to Wyvills Road, West Street, Pepperina Lane and Archer Road. Advance Rockhampton General Manager Tony Cullen spoke briefly on the new “Buy Local” Campaign for Mount Morgan Businesses which was planned to commence in the very near future and would be organised by Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Inc. Residents were given the opportunity to voice their concerns at the meeting, and these ranged from topics including signage, Mafeking bell, hitching rail, gas light, transport of pyrite, to tourism, Mount Morgan’s water supply, the caverns and the CBD upgrade to name a few. A further half a million dollars funding was also announced to upgrade the Morgan Street CBD Footpath in the near future.

The Orange Dot Movie Review
By Larry at Fox Video It was late at night when we watched BABY DRIVER. The weather was cool and the fans were on... It was a pleasantly cool night but I still managed to raise a sweat in the first When he meets the girl of his dreams (Lily James, PRIDE ten minutes of this movie. AND PREJUDICE PLUS ZOMBIES) Baby sees the chance to escape his criminal bondage and make a clean getaway. Intense, full-on heart-pounding action at maximum RPM (Rapid Pulse Monitor?), all done with an immense sense However, when a doomed heist threatens his life, love of fun that will have you leaning sideways in your seat and and freedom, Baby must face the music. clenching your teeth.
Baby Driver
And the music? The soundtrack throughout the entire movie keeps your tootsies in motion even while your eyes are glued to the screen. In fact you could turn off the picture and the dialogue and still get your money’s worth just from the music. Dare I say...best soundtrack I can remember ever?
Masterfully directed by Edgar Wright (SHAUN OF THE DEAD. HOT FUZZ), BABY DRIVER also features Jamie Foxx (DJANGO UNCHAINED, RAY), John Bernthal (Shaun from THE WALKING DEAD) and John Hamm (MAD MEN, KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES).
BABY DRIVER is billed as “The Coolest Movie of the Decade”...You decide. It’s rated MA15+ for “Strong All he needs is one killer track. Baby is a very talented Violence” ands runs for 108 minutes including end young driver (Ansel Elgort) who relies on the beats of his credits. (Oh by the way, check out the special features for personal-mix tapes to be the best in the game. a music video that Edgar made a long time ago. It inspired the opening sequence to this film.) Like all kids though, sooner or later Baby makes a mistake and this leads to him being coerced into working as getaway BABY DRIVER...Loved it! driver for a mastermind crime boss (Kevin Spacey, THE USUAL SUSPECTS, HOUSE OF CARDS.)
