Annual Tree Festival sees Christmas Season shine bright There’s definitely something about a beautifully bedecked Christmas tree; dazzling in all its decorations and aglow with twinkling lights. Multiply this by 146, and you get the 2012 Saint Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival. 146 trees made up the spectacular display at this year’s festival; a record number of entries for the annual event. First held in Mount Morgan in 1992, this year’s Festival marked the tenth year in the community – a milestone which was not only marked with a record number of featured trees but also a record crowd number. More than 650 people flocked to the Mount Morgan School of Arts Hall for the event, held over two evenings, on December 7th and December 8th. Each tree in the impressive array was decorated and supplied by businesses, schools and education centres, community groups and families from the local area and around the region. Many who supplied trees for the event thought of fun and impressive ways to personalise their entries, creating a tree from scratch or adding personalised decorations to see their entry unique. Along with the glowing display, the heart-warming event also featured an entertaining programme over the two nights. The Friday evening included its yearly favourites of live entertainment, market stalls and student artwork displays which were then further added to on the Saturday evening with carols by candlelight, free rides and slides for the kiddies, and of course, a visit from Santa himself and even Mrs Claus. Additional features were also included in recognition of the event’s tenth anniversary; seeing the debut of a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and impressive Nativity displays from all over the world. The event was organised by the Saint Mary’s Church Mount Morgan, supported by members of the Mount Morgan Uniting Church. The Parish of Saint Mary’s would like to sincerely thank all who supported the event and helped to make it such an enjoyable and successful occasion. The 2012 Saint Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival was kindly sponsored by Rockhampton Regional Council, Ergon Energy, Rock Building Society, Mrs Sandra Howkins, MP Ted Malone, MP Ken O’Dowd, Hugh McGilvray (IGA Mount Morgan).
