Well 2014 has almost finished and now just the final happiness of Christmas Day to enjoy. Last edition we had a 1950 Christmas dinner preparation and presents time so now we advance to a much different 2014 Christmas. No longer is it necessary to have the worry of preparing the chicken, ham and plum pudding and spending hours in the kitchen as so many families today prefer a different style of Christmas dinner for our hot Queensland summer. Of course the chicken, ham and pudding are readily available at the super market. If the chef of the house desires a spell from the kitchen, why not treat all the family to a venue where luxury Christmas Dinners are available but the price can make it a real luxury. However the trend for many seems to be towards our lovely local seafood of prawns, crab etc. or even a barbeque, with very little washing up. Then there are the presents from Santa for the children. How these gifts have increased in value since the wages of the parents are so much higher than the 1950’s and also such a wide range readily available from the local stores. If it isn’t battery operated, robotic, remote controlled then it must be digital or computer games. How good would it be being a young girl today with the variety of dolls there are on the market and also a complete wardrobe of different outfits to change as you wish. Then there is the Christmas tree which looks lovely decorated with the tinsel, Christmas ornaments and flashing Christmas lights and the angel and star on the top. A long way from the branch of a tree Dad got from the bush in 1950. The gifts had to be placed beneath the Tree ready for distribution on the Day be it 1950 or 2014. One thing is for sure, Christmas is for family gatherings and the children regardless of whether it is 1950 or 2014. It is a beautiful time for every one and should be a happy occasion by attending your local Christmas Church and bursting forth with the Christmas Carols. We, the members of Pride in your Town do wish all our readers a lovely, happy and healthy time this Christmas and we hope 2015 will be a year of good fortune and wonderful friendships. Please include in your New Year Resolutions the town motto - THINK CLEAN – BE TIDY.

Locals enjoy light-hearted fun for the Christmas season

The Christmas spirit is shining brightly around Mount Morgan again this year, with a number of locals taking part in the annual Christmas Lights Competition hosted by the Mount Morgan Anglican Church. Among those to switch on the festive cheer this year and take part in the local competition are Rod and Debbie Day, of 11 Lester Street. The couple has been busily preparing their home for the festive season. “We do it for a bit of fun,” Debbie said. “We’ve always enjoyed putting lights up. Most people would see that kind of thing as a bit of a chore, but it’s one of our favourite things about this time of year.” It’s a definite labour of love for the duo, who have bedecked their home with Christmas lights each year for more than a decade. “We started decorating our house for Christmas about 15 years ago and have been doing it ever since,” Deb said. Discussing the lead up to the final result, Rod doesn’t deny that there’s a lot of work involved. “In a solid timeframe, the decorating would probably take three days of really hard work to do, but we usually space it out over a couple of weeks,” he said. Rod said his wife does most of the decorating with his main duty being the lights on the roof. Despite the effort required, he says the enjoyment it provides makes it all worth it. “You get a lot of enjoyment seeing the look on people’s faces when they look at the lights and hearing the children get excited and say “look at that!” or pointing to particular things.”

Rod and Debbie are not alone in their love for the lights. A number of houses around the township are getting in on the fun, four of which have also officially signed on for this year’s competition. Judging is set to take place next Monday evening, December 22nd, with winners announced the following day. Keep an eye on the community notice board in Morgan Street and Mount Morgan Promotion and Development’s Facebook page for details of winning entrants. In the meantime, and in the lead up to Christmas, local residents are encouraged to hit the streets and take a look at the glowing local efforts. A bright idea for new SES headquarters Mount Morgan’s SES volunteers are no strangers to a challenge. Assisting in major emergencies and round the clock call outs, the local emergency group regularly face and overcome trying conditions and varied limitations. The past week has seen the emergency group tackle a limitation of a different nature, thanks to the assistance of Parliament and Council and the generosity of Ergon Energy. The group now has a new headquarters – located at the former Ergon Energy building. The facility is the answer to the limited space problems the group had been facing for some time. “We basically had outgrown our previous headquarters,” Deputy Local Controller for Mount Morgan SES Group Darren Barnicoat said last week. “There wasn’t anything wrong with the previous building as such, but there was just no room for expansion.” Darren said a growing membership and a desire to increase training space had seen the group outgrow their headquarters of 34 years. The group’s new headquarters was a culmination of efforts, made by the SES group together with Member for Mirani and Assistant Minister for Emergency Service Ted Malone; the Rockhampton Regional Council and Ergon Energy. “About 18 months ago we decided that we would look for a new location,” Mr Barnicoat said. “We approached MP Ted Malone for assistance and he took it from there.” The efforts resulted in Ergon Energy donating their unused depot to Rockhampton Regional Council, who has since made the site available to the Mount Morgan SES. The site provides the local volunteers with increased space and room for training activities. The group was officially presented with the keys to their new home last Wednesday, at an official handover on site.

The handover was attended by the project’s major players (pictured below), as well as members of emergency services and the local community. Officiating the donation was MP Ted Malone, who said he was delighted to celebrate the official donation by Ergon Energy. “This Ergon facility has not been used as an operational depot for the past 15 years. However it has been used for storage of Ergon Energy equipment and spares, and was also leased to the Queensland Ambulance Service for a period of time,” Mr Malone said. “I was approached by local emergency service staff on the urgent need for a dedicated site to house both the SES and the RFSQ in Mt Morgan and was able to secure this site through the generosity of Ergon Energy.” Discussing the donation, Mr Peter Billing, EGM Customer Service Ergon Energy said it was a win-win situation. “After serving the community as an operational electricity supply depot for many years and helping to keep the lights on in the Mount Morgan area, it’s great to see the facility put to good use and once again serve the community as an ideal operational location for the local SES and Rural Fire Service. At Ergon we see this initiative as very much a winwin situation with the Mount Morgan community the significant benefactors.” Not ones for sitting idle, the local volunteers have already begun making plans for activities on the new site. “Everyone is really keen to be at the new headquarters and get things going,” Mr Barnicoat said. “We’ve been putting plans together for expansion, and time frames on when we will move in.” Mr Barnicoat said the plans for the near future include the installation of a vertical training area which can be jointly used for SES, rescue roles and fire drills, as well as the construction of a shed to house SES vehicles and a workshop.

From traditional tinsel trimmings to quirky creations complete with a fire hose, Mount Morgan’s Christmas Tree Festival saw not only Christmas trees but also the community’s creativity on show last fortnight. An annual celebration for Mount Morgan, the event featured trees of all shapes and sizes; decorated by a host of local businesses, education groups, and community and voluntary clubs. Bumper crowds turned out to marvel at the glittering community creations which lined the School of Arts Hall. “It’s the effort of the community that makes the event so special,” event hosts, Mount Morgan Promotion and Development said. “One of the best things about the Christmas Tree Festival is seeing what kind of entries the community comes up with for the tree display. Every year businesses and organisations think of new ways to decorate or create their trees. Most of them continuously find new ways to represent what they do in the community which is always really impressive.” MMPAD said this year’s event proved no exception, with some very creative trees stacking in. “This year’s trees ranged from traditional to really out of the box. A popular entry this year was one submitted by the Mount Morgan Fire Station, which came complete with a fire hose, extinguisher and smoke alarm.” MMPAD said there were also numerous entries from community members who were eager to get in on the festive fun. “We had a Ninja Turtle inspired tree that was made by a threeyear-old local resident with the help of his family,” MMPAD said. The trees made up part of a collection of 80 that were on display over the two nights. “We were really happy with the number of trees,” MMPAD said.“Although it wasn’t as many as we have seen in past years, it was a great turnout considering how quickly this year has flown by and how busy everyone is at this time of year.” Along with the tree display, the heart-warming event also featured live entertainment, market stalls and student artwork displays during both evenings. Saturday’s celebrations added further to the fun with free amusement rides for the kiddies, and a visit from Santa. “Overall it was a great couple of nights,” MMPAD said. “The Tree Festival is always a really nice and relaxed way for the community to kick off the Christmas season and it was great that so many came along.” This year’s event marked the 12th year in the community, originally commenced by the Mount Morgan Saint Mary’s Church in 1992. The Christmas celebrations will be held same time next year, with a couple of additions and changes. “We are hoping to add to the entertainment on offer next year. We are also looking into the possibility of introducing winners for the tree entries so be sure to watch this space for further details closer to the event.”

Grand plans ahead for Hotel team Manger of the Grand Hotel, Paul Walker, is looking to see patrons make visiting the local business a ritual. He’s also hoping to see donations made to the community something of regularity as well. Paul, along with the entire Grand Hotel team will be kicking off a new event this Friday. Known as “Ritual at the Grand”, the event is set to see fundraising a major part of its programme. “It’s the first of a series of evenings that we are looking to hold,” Paul said on the upcoming event. “It will be a night to keep in mind each month and make a ritual to come down to the pub.” Paul said the event is set to centre on regular activities, with fun and fundraising the main objectives. “It’s around live entertainment, good food and friendly atmosphere,” Paul said. “There’ll be prize giveaways, and competitions. A big part of the event though will be raising funds for local organisations, emergency service groups or charities,” he said. Paul said a BBQ, gold coin donation and various other initiatives will serve as the main fundraisers, with a new recipient chosen each month. The first receiver of the fundraising from this week’s event will be the Mount Morgan Hospital. “We will be fundraising for the children’s ward for our first ritual night,” Paul said.

The former Sydney resident said he is looking forward to the event, as well as a number of other projects which the Grand Hotel team has planned for the local watering hole. “As well as Ritual night, we are looking to hold some celebrations for Christmas, New Year’s, Australia Day and all of those big days,” Paul said. “We are also looking at some additions and adjustments to our menu, thanks to our new head chef, Sue. We are planning a big local focus – sourcing as many products as possible from Mount Morgan, and offering those popular over-sized, fresh, big plates. “Along with big servings, we are trying to focus on the little things. Our retail manager for the bottle shop for example is stocking up on lollies for the kiddies and treats for pets when anyone pops in to Mount Morgan Cellars and says hello.” Paul said along with events in house, some collaborative events may also be on the cards. “We are also hoping to work in conjunction with other local businesses and the hotels in town for some events as well. We have heard some great ideas on possible events and ways to attract people to Mount Morgan, so we are looking to keep encouraging those.” For further details on Ritual at the Grand or any of their other upcoming projects, phone 4938 2300. Pictured: Tony Jamieson (Retail Manager), Zach Maher (Duty Manager), Sue Cook (Head Chef) and Paul Walker (Hotel Manager).

“We are aiming to carry out a toy drive for the ward.” The first Ritual at the Grand will take place this Friday evening, kicking off at 7pm. The event is one of the first at the Hotel for Paul since taking on the management position earlier this month.

Mount Morgan Central celebrates a year of high achievements Family and community support was a plenty at Mount Morgan Central last Wednesday, as dozens joined in on the school’s end of year Awards Day. The usually spacious parade area was packed tight for the event, with students’ family members, friends, staff and members of the community eager to cheer on the young achievers. An annual event for the school, the awards day celebrates the academic, cultural and sporting achievements of Mount Morgan Central’s students throughout the education year. Double the celebration for Mount Morgan Central

Graduation day is always a momentous occasion for Mount Morgan Central, but this year it was history making.

Mary-Rose Donald-Nord, Atlanta Polizzi and Bonnie Leggo.

The local school said farewell to not only its Year 7 class last week, but also its Year 6 students. The first time double graduation was the result of a change in the state’s education system, which as of 2015 will see students attend high school at year 7, rather than year 8. The change meant double the crowd and double the fun for our local graduates, who celebrated their graduation with a dinner at Mount Morgan’s Dee Bowls Club. Along with a sit down dinner, the evening included an official farewell- presented by Mount Morgan Central Principal, Blair Harp. The presentation also included certificates to each student, and the cutting of the graduation cake, carried out by school captains Bonnie Leggo and Lachlan Mackay.

Ideas flowing over for Councillors hear communities thoughts Feel Good Promotions Rockhampton Region Councillors called on residents to have their say on what’s happening in the Region and recently visited Mount Morgan. Councillors heard residents’ thoughts first hand on priority projects and existing services in the community. Mount Morgan residents were interested in the following: 1. Beautification works in the Mount Morgan CBD (Morgan Street) including a designated cleaning program to keep the CBD looking clean and fresh. 2. More tree planting 3. Cleaning up the entry at the start of Mount Morgan 4. Further road improvements Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said it was important to know what improvements residents wanted to see within their community. “We sought input from the community to ensure Council is working towards a more sustainable and brighter future.” To make every voice count, a satisfaction survey will be available for residents to rate infrastructure, services and facilities. “The results from face to face discussions and surveys will determine the key priority projects discussed with the community in the lead up to the 2015/2016 budget.” The survey is also available online at www.rrc.qld.gov.au under the ‘I want to’ menu. Other items discussed in the Community Conversation meeting included: - Walking track at the dam - Various road improvements / repairs requested (Gordon Lane, Poison Creek Road, Baree Road) - Struck Oil Road & Archer Road realignment - Public transport - Litter issues at the entry of Mount Morgan - Old squash courts need a facelift Mount Morgan residents will also have the opportunity to meet up with Mayor Margaret Strelow on 12 January 2015. There are many who agree that Christmas is the season for giving. There are also those who feel that giving is an activity worthy of being carried out all year round. The team of local enterprise, Feel Good Promotions, are among those who agree with the latter. Feel Good Promotions have been encouraging giving and random acts of kindness in Mount Morgan and around the State through the locally grown initiative known as Random Acts of Kindness - Anonymous Friends. Since its establishment in 2012, this customer based incentive programme has been offering all the opportunity to make someone’s day and pay forward an item for an unsuspecting customer in a participating store. In aim of further encouraging the message of goodwill and carrying out kind acts, the local organisation expanded their program to encompass Random Acts of Kindness grocery items earlier this year. They are now looking to further promote the feel good message with an exciting campaign in 2015. “Many would have seen the Random Acts of Kindness bottled water in a number of stores locally,” Feel Good Promotions said. “We are looking to see this continue in the New Year, but in a way that will further put forth the message of kindness and giving.” The team said the campaign will include an entirely new look brand for the enterprise, as well as a number of interactive ways for all to get in on the kindness movement. “You can already find our “Message in a bottle” newly labelled bottled water around town. This is the taste tester for some very exciting and new things to come in 2015,” the team said. Keep an eye out for the campaign in the 2015 Argus and Feel Good Promotions online: www.anonymousfriends.com.au

Ted Malone MP Member for Mirani Well, it’s our last issue of the Argus for 2014! A sincere thank you goes to you, our readers, for your support over these 25 issues. It’s been another great year for the Argus and much is thanks to the great number of story ideas, articles, advertisements and invitations to local events from the community. We’ve really enjoyed bringing you another year of positive local news and hope you have enjoyed your reading. We will be taking a short break over the festive season, but will return with our first issue for 2015 on January 29th. Along with the Argus, we have been so pleased to have had the opportunity to support and host a number of community projects and events this year. Some of these have included the restocking of the Dam, the installation of the Mount Morgan billboard at the Capricorn Spire, 2014 Silver Wattle Day, The Cuppa with a View event – welcoming visitors to stop for a cuppa atop the Range, trivia nights, cent sales, Wendy Matthews live in concert, and assistance with the Creek to Coast visit, to name a few. Each of these was a pleasure to be involved with, and each and every time we have been blown away by the great support from the entire community. Thank you once again to all who have assisted with these and all of our events! The most recent event we have had the privilege of hosting has been the 2014 Christmas Tree Festival. We would like to sincerely thank all who helped make this such an enjoyable event. A big thank you to all who came along. There was a great turn out both evenings. A special thanks goes to all who entered trees – they looked fantastic! Thank you also to our stall holders, amusement ride operators and our wonderful entertainers for the night (Greg, Heather, Jodie, Isaac, Di and Lydia). For those of you who heard young Lydia singing on Saturday night, and would like to hear more, we have her CD’s available for purchase from the info centre. Last but not least, a huge thank you to all of our hardworking volunteers who so kindly pitched in and gave a hand leading up to and during the event!

I would also like to extend my best wishes to all Year 12 students as they now move on to tertiary education, a traineeship, apprenticeship or the general workforce. This is a very nostalgic and exciting time for you now with your entire future ahead of you. I wish you success and happiness along whichever path you have chosen to travel. Christmas Wishes As this will be the final Community News article for 2014, I would like to extend my best wishes to all for a happy holiday season. As we enjoy the festivities, it is vitally important that we do not become complacent about the very things that can change this happy and carefree time into one of tragedy and heartbreak. It is also our duty to take extra care on the roads and highways during this traditionally busy time, and as community minded citizens we must be ‘cycloneready’ by clearing away all items from around the house that could easily become missiles, and ensuring we have all the necessary items in our survival kits. It is a time we all enjoy sharing with our family and friends and I trust that it will be a safe and enjoyable time for all.

by Trish & Greg Mathers Hello Folks, it’s that time again. Christmas is fast approaching and we would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas. Remember to practice safety and remember to lock your houses, vehicles and valuables. If you will be going away for the holidays you can contact Police to conduct patrols of your place while you are away. Police are appealing for assistance from the public in relation to a number of offences below. Sometime between the 21st November and 1st December 2014 a black 2008 Mazda 3 sedan was parked in the vicinity of 9 East Street, Mount Morgan. Sometime during this period the car has been damaged by unknown persons resulting in major dents to the majority of the panels of the vehicle. Please contact Police with any information which may lead to the identity of the offender/s (QP1401690129 refers). Sometime during the 2nd December 2014 a handmade doll was stolen from a shop in Mount Morgan. The doll is a homemade black coloured soft doll approximately 12-16 inches tall standing wearing a gold stripe material with black hair. A doll similar to the stolen doll is pictured right (QP1401685437). A number of weeks beforehand another doll was stolen from the same shop. This doll is described as a homemade soft cream coloured doll with cream/ gold fabric, baggy pants and top and turban. Approximately 12-16 inched tall standing with beading up front top. A similar doll to this is pictured right (QP1401685516 refers)

Well, hasn’t this year gone fast! The last month or so has been busy for us, with lots of birds and a few macropods coming in to care. We had 2 Eastern Grey joeys come in just recently. One of them had been hit by a car and left on the side of the road. Sadly he died not long after we got him back home from the vet. The other is a lovely joey weighing about 1500 grams. We are not sure what happened to his mum, only that she was found dead on a property with a live joey in her pouch. Very lucky for him, the property owners checked the pouch. His name is Jack, and he has been passed on to another carer once we got him settled and drinking properly. Please, if you find a joey, don’t give them anything to eat or drink unless you have instructions from a licenced wildlife carer. You can always get in touch with a carer on 1300 Animal (the RSPCA) hotline if you need to. Vets also have numbers for carers, which they are happy to pass on. Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the year, and also a big thank you to those wonderful people who have taken the time to rescue wildlife in need. At times, they really need our help, and is a great thing you do when you rescue them, instead of letting them suffer. We would like to wish you all a Merry Xmas, and a Happy New Year. The photo is of ‘Jack’. Isn’t he a handsome fellow?!

On the 6th December 2014 a white/ silver IPhone 5s was stolen from the Mount Morgan Pool sometime in the afternoon. Any person with any information which may assist in finding the location of this stolen property or the identity of the offender please contact Police. (QP1401708717 refers). Sometime between 6:30pm and 7:50pm on the 7th December 2014 a house located at 5 James Street, Mount Morgan was broken into. The unknown offenders have stolen 2 knife blocks and attempted to steal a TV but were believed to be disturbed by a person returning to the house and have left the TV in the yard. There are no suspects at this point and Police are appealing for information which may lead to the offender/s and the stolen property (QP1401714601 refers). Police are appealing for public assistance for any information that may assist in these matters. If you have any information that may assist please call Policelink on 131 444 and quote the report numbers noted above. Alternatively you can contact the Mount Morgan Police Station on 4938 1222 or come into the Police Station during office hours.

The year that was - 2014

18

From motorcycle rallies and sold out concerts to major reconstruction works and special celebrations, it’s safe to say that 2014 has proved another momentous year in Mount Morgan. As the year draws to an end, we take a moment to revisit some of the year’s memorable moments as featured in the past 25 issues of the Argus.

January

February

In comparison to the year prior with the effects of ex-tropical cyclone Oswald, 2014 kicked off quietly. It was a month of celebrations for many, with Australia Day (pictured left) and local fundraising events taking place. Our very own Kevin Porter, Colleen Roberts and Jim Orr were honoured at the Australia Day Awards ceremony in Rockhampton during this month, for their efforts with emergency services. It was also an exciting start to the year for young rodeo stars Annalise Cant and Zara Benjamin who headed to New Zealand as part of the annual TransTasman School Rodeo Challenge (pictured right).

This month marked the 102nd birthday for Mount Morgan High, as well as the official induction of Mount Morgan High’s and Mount Morgan Central Primary’s school captains and leadership teams for 2014. Local, Steven Cooper also found himself the surprise recipient of the next installment of This is your Night; a local event honouring community achievements and involvement.

March

A few locals proved a cut above the rest during the month of March, when they got on board the World’s Greatest Shave initiative. Those to be brave were young local Reece Jones (pictured), as well as Mount Morgan High staff member Lalani Potroz, and Red Frog staff member, Marissa Brady. It was also the month for young golfers to test their skills at the local course, with a visit from golf professional, Doug Gardner.

April

A big month for Mount Morgan! April saw the Mount Morgan Dam become the new home to thousands of Yellow Belly fingerlings, through the area’s annual restocking project (pictured left). Mount Morgan also enjoyed some limelight during this month when it welcomed a visit from Channel 7’s popular TV program Creek to Coast. The TV crew were in the area filming for a special segment on Central Queensland. April also saw hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts rally together for the hugely successful Indian and Harley Rally (pictured right). April also the ANZACS remembered with hundreds attending the local services held at ANZAC Park. It was also the month for officially celebrating the opening of Mount Morgan’s Multipurpose Health Facility.

May

What would May be in Mount Morgan without the Golden Mount Festival? Thousands celebrated the Mount and its heritage with the 37th annual event with a family fun night at the Mount Morgan Dam, a full day of festivities in Morgan Street on Saturday and a day of thrills and spills on Sunday with a rodeo. It was also an exciting month for the MMPAD team, who were announced successful applicants for a heritage project to preserve local stories and upgrade information signage in the upcoming months.

June

This month saw the winding road and scenic views of the Mount Morgan Range enjoyed again. Some 500 days after ex tropical-cyclone Oswald’s destructive move around the State, the major reconstruction of the road was completed. The Mount Morgan State High School also welcomed a very special guest during this month - Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency Ms Penelope Wensley.

19

July

Well known artist Wendy Matthews came our way in July (pictured left). With the help of a number of other fantastic musicians the night was one to remember for the sellout crowd. This month also included NAIDOC week, which saw Mount Morgan celebrated with a number of special events (centre). The Historical Museum also welcomed an exciting addition to its exhibit during this month; restored prints of a former local musician, along with some of his instruments (right).

August

For many locals, August means one thing when it comes to the local calendar – The Mount Morgan Agricultural Show (pictured left and centre). This year’s event welcomed another bumper crowd to the Showgrounds, with hundreds keen to celebrate all things agricultural. This month also saw Mount Morgan mark Seniors Week 2014 with a special function at the School of Arts. It was also an exciting time for Lorikeet supporters, with the local lads swooping in to the semifinals (pictured right).

September

Held in the month of National Wattle Day, locals and visitors celebrated Mount Morgan and its very own wattle with Silver Wattle Day 2014 (pictured). The second year running, Silver Wattle Day welcomed hundreds to the Dam for some family fun at the popular venue. Also held at the Dam during September was a reunion for Gus n Pol’s Eats; a former and much loved takeaway store in Mount Morgan during the 1980s.

November

October

October proved another month for local celebrations and events. Saint Mary’s Anglican Church marked its 125th birthday in early October, with a special open day (pictured) and service. This month also saw an impressive new shade structure installed at the Mount Morgan Dam playground; totaling $145,000. October also saw Mount Morgan’s Silver Wattle Caravan Park strike gold with a special feature in national publication, Caravan and Motor Home on Tour.

December

Wrapping up the year so far has been Mount Graduation day arrived with the 2014 Senior Class of Mount Morgan High last Morgan’s annual Christmas Tree Festival month (pictured). It was also the official awards night for the school, and the (pictured), along with Mount Morgan Central’s launch of the disaster management team’s emergency community noticeboard. awards day and year 7 graduation.

Happy birthday!...

Happy 1st Birthday Da-en Walker Bramble, for the 27th of December, 2014. May your 1st birthday be a day to remember... Lots of Love Mum and Dad and rest of family xox

Birthday celebrations!...

What a wonderful achievement, Mr Daniels! On November 29th, Mr E C Daniels thoroughly enjoyed his 100th birthday celebration at what was formerly known as the Brothers Leagues Club in Rockhampton. Hosted by Sandra, Wayne and Jan and their family, over 100 people attended the gathering. A great time was had by all at this very special occasion. Unfortunately, because of the state of his health, Rob was unable to attend. Hamilton Creek State School was well represented, with many former students and their families being present, testament to the high esteem in which Mr Daniels was, and still is regarded in the Mt Morgan community.

Happy Anniversary!...

Best wishes to Dick & Jane Hulme on your 40th wedding anniversary for December 23rd. From Marg B, Dottie and Brownie.

Sight and Sound

A poem by Frank Clark Clouds in the sky does not mean it will rain We are going by coach there is no train Ready to roll on time down the incline To the theatre for morning tea on time

CHOCOLATE CHERRY LEMON CHEESECAKE Ingredients

• 1 x 440g can of condensed milk sweetened • 2 x 250g Philadelphia cheese • 1 x 500g dark chocolate • 2 x 250g glazed cherries • 125ml lemon juice • 1 ½ packet of lattice biscuits

How I do it:

In a mix master or food processor, add condensed milk, Philadelphia cheese and lemon juice. Note: make sure the Philadelphia cheese is at room temperature and the same as condensed milk - it helps them mix together easily. Now end up 1 packet of glace cherries into Philly in fine pieces. Leave the other packet whole with the chocolate. Grate half of the block on a fine tooth greater and leave the other half. Heat up and melt gently in the microwave for a minute or two - just be careful because it does burn. Now add the hot melted chocolate into the cheesecake mix. Add the finely chopped cherries and mix in the mixer until an even light brown colour has been achieved. You can now add the grated chocolate in and just mix gently at the same time. You can add the whole packet of whole glazed cherries: you can cut them in half if you want but they do look much nicer in the end product if they left whole. Now there’s enough mix here to make a large tray that can hold a whole packet of lattice biscuits but I use a smaller tray about 30 centimetres by 18 centimetres. Lay down a layer of lattice biscuits with the glazed or shiny side of the lattice biscuit facing down. Once these are laid down, pour the cheesecake mix in. Pack down and flatten nicely and level. Repeat with the lattice biscuits on the top. Simply follow the same pattern of lying the biscuits down but this time put the glaze or the shiny side of the lattice biscuit facing up. For the presentation this is the best thing to do. Place in the fridge, covered and sealed with glad wrap or a lid for the container and let it sit for 2 days before using. What this does is softens the lattice biscuits into more of a pastry but mind you, if you can wait that long, it normally does have a piece taken out pretty early. Now simply follow the biscuits and divide in 2 slices. If you have left these a couple of days, the lattice biscuit will be soft enough to cut in half and allowing you to make thinner slices. This cheesecake will make a great addition to your Christmas lunch as a part of your dessert platter and also keep the kids happy. You’ve got to try these things! You can add extra lemon juice if you want a little bit more of a bite. I do but I have a taste test and make sure it’s to the right taste.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We hope to see you all back nice and healthy in the New Year.
