“This track has large camp area, is close to town, the track length and the variation of terrain, making it ideal for this type of event,” Greg said.
Competitors travelled from far north Qld, Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia.
“This a great national race series that attracts the best Hard Enduro riders from all over Australia,” he said.
Greg said he was currently planning to expand the event in Mount Morgan for 2024.

More than 100 riders competed in the Grassroots Enduro Ironstone Extreme leg – the third leg of a five round Australian Hard Enduro Championship at the end of June. This is the third time the contingent of riders in this event have journeyed to Mount Morgan from around Australia to compete in the event.
While the number of riders has decreased since 2022, the competition was still hotly contested.
Event Promoter, Greg Petersen said this year’s numbers were approximately 100 less than in 2023, putting this decrease down to fuel prices and interest rates.
“These two factors are hurting people,” he said.
The event attracted about 400 crew and supporters, being a boost to businesses such as IGA, the caravan parks, eating establishments and local contractors.
