MOUNT MORGAN CITIZEN’S CLUB

Dance – Why not join us for the Medieval Dance on Saturday, 23 September to raise funds for the hall. The room will be decorated to celebrate the Spring Equinox, there will be prizes for best themed outfit, and a Lucky Door prize, as well as raffle. Thankyou to Pirruwani Art for the donation of a painting as the major prize, and Alli’s Massage for contributing a hot stone massage voucher. We have some amazing businesses in our town, and we are constantly in awe and so grateful for their generosity and support for what we are doing.

Morgan Citizens Club, with a number of projects at the install stage. We are proud to have revealed some pretty shmick stainless benchtops installed recently by Adnought to bring the Soldiers Rooms kitchen to commercial standard. With many thanks to the FRRR Strengthening Rural Communities Grants and NAB Foundation for contributing the funds required.

Many thanks also to Mount Morgan Mens Shed who through utilizing their skills, have considerably changed the appearance of the Hall, by dressing up the front stairs and bringing back some of the old world charm Mount Morgan is famous for. Keep an eye out for the rest of the fretwork which will be returned over coming months.

Our schedule all booked in over coming months, involves the wings of the dancefloor being sanded and varnished to marry in seamlessly with the main hall area, commercial lino being installed into the kitchen, servery and bathrooms, a solar spotlight for our flagpole and a reroof in October. Exciting Times!

Arts Precinct Update.

River Festival - If you attended the Rocky River Festival, you may have heard the tinkle of the ivory, had a play yourself, or just admired the beautiful piano located outside of the Rockhampton Museum Of Art. You may be surprised to learn that it hails from the Upper Dee Hall, next to St Enoch’s, and has been tuned and restored especially for the festival, by Rockhampton Regional Council. We extend many thanks to RRC for taking such great care of this significant piece of our history, and look forward to welcoming back this artefact into the realm of the Arts Precinct once the buildings are up to standard.

Renovations - Currently at St Enoch’s, windows are being measured up and a number of tasks are being performed, however with the busy schedule at the Soldiers Rooms, things are progressing at a steady pace. Volunteers are always welcome to join us, as with all small town groups, it is a struggle to share the load among Members without over burdening.

Next Meeting: 27 August at 10:30am at the Soldiers Rooms, come along for a cuppa and a chat, and see what we do. Enquiries Ph 0411 865 621. Hall Bookings Ph 0419 605 662.
