HERITAGE MINERALS STRIVING AHEAD

There are other permits required before the project can be presented to the Heritage Minerals Board for development approval. These include an amendment to the existing environmental authority and approval from the Department of Environment and Science (Heritage) for development in the heritage listed area of the mine site. The recent Mount Morgan Show day provided an opportunity for Heritage Minerals to discuss the project with members of the community at an information booth manned by members of the Heritage Minerals project team. There was a video display showing the location of the proposed infrastructure including the tailings re-processing plant.

Heritage Minerals Pty Ltd continues to progress predevelopment activity on their Mount Morgan Tailings Reprocessing and Rehabilitation Project. Work has moved from the feasibility stage to the planning and permitting stage with detailed engineering designs and plans in preparation in conjunction with progressing the applications for

development permits. Recently the Rockhampton Regional Council assessed and endorsed an amendment application to the existing Regional Interests Development permit that requires approval by the Queensland Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning.

The display included a map showing the planned working areas including the locations where tailing will be extracted, the haul routes to the processing plant and the tailings storage facility in Sandstone Gully. Heritage Minerals has provided support for Mount Morgan’s Wattle Day on 12 September at the historic railway station precinct. There will be an information booth with Heritage Minerals people available to provide project information to the community. Please stop by and have a chat.

RAIL TRAIL CONSULTATION

Residents in Mount Morgan, Gracemere and Rockhampton had the opportunity to discuss the propsed Rail Trail with Council and consultants between 24 - 26 August. The length of the rail trail is just over 28km – starting at Mount Morgan Railway (approx.) following the corridor down through the Razorback, then along the road reserve (Hume Road), Cherryfields Road to Cedric Archer Park. Just over 17 km is the rail corridor – the rest is in road reserve. Following the consultation the consultancy firm Burchills Engineering Solutions will develop the feasibility study for Council. Preliminary design and costings will be produced as part of the study. Council will vote to go ahead or veto the idea. If they choose to go ahead, a more detailed design and costings will be produced. Pictured left: Graeme Meade and John Steinberger discuss the Rail Trail with consultants.

DAMPER DAY Traditional Aussie damper was on offer at the Dee River Oldies Damper Day last Wednesday. About 57 members and guests enjoyed traditional damper and syrup for morning tea. This was followed by damper and curry and rice for lunch. It took nine large dampers to ensure that all attendees were well catered for. Damper is also known as Bushman’s bread and was not only made by Australia’s European settlers, but by indigenous Australians as well. Pictured below: Doug Hoehne enjoying damper with syrup

DEE RIVER OLDIES

Spring has arrived. A time to look forward to some nicer days weather wise and really hoping some rain is not too far away. Dee River Oldies members enjoyed their annual Damper Day on 25 August. This year it was held at St Mary’s Hall, and it is always a big day. We would like to thank the members who helped. Getting the dampers, mince and rice prepared is always a big job. A big thank you also goes to the musicians who entertained on the day. Your time and support was really appreciated. Our next Monthly Meeting is Tuesday, 21 September 2021 and the Morning Tea is on Wednesday, 22 September 2021. Our meetings are the third Tuesday of the month, and our morning teas are the fourth Wednesday of the month and for the month of September that is how it works out. Check out the ‘Save the Date’ column on the back page of the Argus for the time and where they are held.

Emergency Services Attend Car Fire Queensland Police and Fire and Rescue attended a vehicle fire near Mount Morgan on Wednesday 4 August 2021 at 5.30 pm. A Nissan Pulsar sedan had been travelling west on Leyden’s Hill Road when it left the road, crashed and caught on fire. When the Fire Brigade and Police arrive, the car was well on fire. A search of the vehicle and surrounds did not find an occupant. Sergeant Matt Harling, Officer in Charge at Mount Morgan Police said the police would conduct further investigations into the incident which appeared suspicious. One Firefighting appliance from the Mount Morgan Fire Station quickly attended the accident scene and extinguished the fire, preventing it spreading into the surrounding bush. Fighting a vehicle fire is always dangerous, as the fuel makes it an explosion risk and the plastics and other materials in the car creates toxic smoke.

There will be a guest speaker for the September morning tea and a raffle and lucky door prize. New and existing members are welcome. There is a membership form to fill out to become a member, and it costs nothing to join. Stay happy and healthy. Submitted by the Steering Committee Carol Glover 4938 1995, Colleen Constable 0427 161 131.

Dental Health For Your Pet

R

When was the last time you checked your pets’ teeth? It is estimated that around 80% of dogs and 50% of cats over the age of three years have some form of dental or oral disease that is impacting their health and quality of life. While one might expect them to show obvious signs if they are affected, the truth is that most dogs and cats can hide dental issues for some time.

OC

KH A

MPTON

They will continue eating despite significate dental disease. In fact, they will only stop eating if the dental pain is so bad that starving slowly feels like the better option. They may suffer in silence for months or years before things reach this point. Tne of the main signs that alerts us to a problem is bad breath (halitosis). Bad breath is NOT normal, it is a sign of infection and needs to be taken seriously. Other signs that MAY be noted include: • Dental plaque tartar • Red, swollen or bleeding gums (gingivitis) • Blood or pus in the mouth • Ulcers or swelling • Broken, loose, damaged teeth

THE ORANGE DOT By Larry at Fox Video

Movie Review VOYAGERS To unite a people find an enemy common to all and promote the fear. In the absence of an enemy, create a fictional one and then convince the populace that it is real and a serious threat. To cause an insurrection and overthrow the recognized government or authority, generate rumours and inuendo. Make up lies using “truthisms” (false statements with just enough truth in them to make them believable) about the leaders and institutions that you want torn down and spread them far and wide. Age-old, tried and true strategies that work even more efficiently today than in ancient history because, even though people are better educated and informed than ever before, we are now so much easier to get to through our devices and social media - and the doors of our tiny little minds are wide open... Finally, make them leaderless and when the people are feeling lost, rudderless, alone and afraid as all they believed in crumbles, step forth to offer salvation. Become their leader, the one who will bring them from darkness back into the light - back to safety, comfort, happiness and prosperity. It is done...

Page 14

The director, producer and writer of VOYAGERS, Neil Burger is the very same hugely talented man who brought us THE ILLUSIONIST in 2006, THE LUCKY ONES, in 2008, LIMITLESS in 2011 and DIVERGENT in 2014; so get ready for a great ride. A habitable planet has been discovered. All of the Goldilocks boxes have been ticked - not too hot, not too cold, rivers of water, clean breathable air, forests, plains, mountains... It looks perfect. To further ensure the survival of humankind it has always been considered by many that as with most things, it’s better not to have all your eggs in one basket (in this case, Earth) - it is best to diversify, decrease your risk and increase your opportunity. The decision to go and colonize the newly discovered planet is made, but it won’t be so easy. It’s going to take eighty-six years just to get there. The plan therefore is that the male and female crew of the interstellar spacecraft, to be known as the Humanitas, is intended to conceive and give birth to children during the voyage, in order to

MOUNT MORGAN ARGUS

ensure that their grandchildren will successfully reach and colonize their destination planet. For this misson the initial crew must be exceptional... Thirty artificially conceived children are bred from the genomes of exceptionally intelligent people. These will be the initial crew of the Humanitas. In order not to compromise the mission they are raised and educated in complete isolation from human society and the world outside, so that they will never be nostalgic for or miss Earth in any way. The one adult they are close to is their wise, kind and knowledgeable scientist, professor and teacher (Colin Farrell), and although he knows he’ll never get there and never come back, he’s going with them to guide and protect his kids on their voyage. And now the children have reached the age of nine or ten - it’s time to go... Also starring Tye Sheridan, Fionn Whitehead and Lily-Rose Depp (yes, Jack Sparrow’s little girl), VOYAGERS is rated MA15+ for ‘strong violence’ and is a 108 minute edge-of-your-seat thrill ride. Science fiction, soon to be science fact? VOYAGERS... Loved it!
