We still have a few “Snippets of History” to relate and as the feedback has been positive on the “Snippets” we will try to add a few more this edition. It was in 1955 that the single story hotel at Tipperary Point, The Exchange Hotel, was destroyed by fire. The original name of the hotel was “The Sunburst” and the licensees, Garrett and Hannah Stack owned the hotel for 40 years. The ownership of the hotel for so many years must be a record. The last owner of the hotel was Mr. Jess Daniels, when it was destroyed by fire in 1955 on February 1st. Later Jess Daniels became a well-known local butcher for many years. With Anzac Day fast approaching, we recall, back in 1956 when Mount Morgan was honoured by the State Governor, Sir John Laverick who visited the town and took the Anzac salute from the Post Office steps. This event was an historical occasion as it was the first time the State Governor had performed this traditional ceremony. In 1957 “An open letter” was sent to every employee of Mount Morgan Limited stating that due to low world copper prices and together with the low grade ore being mined the company was in a serious situation. Thankfully the situation was overcome and work was not interrupted.

On January 9th 1957 the Calliungal Hotel (at the corner of Morgan and East Streets) went up in flames. The Hotel had been a popular sporting meeting venue as football was at its peak in that era. Sadly a number of our hotels, seven out of the twenty seven, were destroyed by fire. On March 16th 1957, Rotary was established in Mount Morgan. The Foundation President to be elected was Mr Zagami (head teacher of the Central State School) and 22 charter members were present at the formation. Mr Abbie Rowe is the only remaining charter member who is still a Rotary member. Well done Abbie and also by Rotary to be still doing such good work in Mount Morgan. There will be more Snippets in future editions. It is so pleasing to see alterations being carried out at both the Grand and Leichhardt Hotels. The new Mount Morgan Cellars at the Grand is attractive and we also look forward to seeing the revamped Leichhardt on completion of the work. Progress in our town is such a positive item for our visitors over our Festival weekend to show them the town is still alive and well. To all our readers, a happy Easter and if on the roads, take extra care. Hope the Easter Bunny calls in at your house.

They may be small in size, but there’s big things expected for the latest fingerlings released into the Mount Morgan Dam. The local waterway has recently become home to thousands of new fish as part of a community project to boost the recreational experience of the area. Last Saturday 7,000 golden perch (yellow belly) fingerlings as well as a few hundred silver perch fingerlings were released into the Mount Morgan Dam. The young fish were introduced as part of an annual restocking project by Mount Morgan Promotion and Development Incorporated. The weekend’s release saw members of MMPAD, as well as staff of Hanwood Fish Hatchery, and members of the community happily grab a bucket and introduce the fingerlings to the local waters.

Splish splash: some of the Dam’s new inhabitants prior to the release.

With ample food, shelter and water, the Mount Morgan Dam provides a perfect habitat for the new inhabitants. The fingerlings were released in various sections around the dam’s perimeter, placed in sheltered shallows for further protection from predators and strong currents. The newly introduced fingerlings were lovingly reared by the Cluff Family from Hanwood Fish Hatchery, located at Murgon. “These fingerlings are about two grams each in weight,” Max Cluff said during the delivery of the Dam’s new residents. “So that makes about 14 kilograms of Yellow Belly released today,” he said. The fingerlings are set to lure future fishermen when they reach the legal catching size, which Hanwood estimate to be in approximately 18 months’ time. Those eager to try their luck with a line earlier however may hook a sizeable catch from one of the Dam’s previous restocking efforts.

Lending a hand: Moongan resident, Holly Purser helps introduce the fingerlings to their new home.

The weekend’s efforts marked the fourth year of restocking for MMPAD, with past releases totalling more than 15,000 golden perch as well as a number of eel-tailed tailed catfish and silver perch. The restocking is carried out each year in accordance with a restocking plan for the area, which was established in 2010 with the assistance of Fisheries Queensland. Next year’s release is set to include further golden perch as well as sleepy cod and a small number of saratoga. For those planning a future fishing trip at the Mount Morgan Dam, MMPAD is keen to hear from those who land a catch. Details of local catches provide assistance in monitoring past restocks as well as the overall success of the project thus far. MMPAD sincerely thanks all for their interest and support of this project and those who assisted in the release on Saturday. A special thanks to John Hehir also for his assistance on the day. For further details on the restocking plan, contact MMPAD on 4938 2312 or email mmpad@bigpond.com

A family affair: Siblings Alexander and Victoria Connolly together with their cousin Claire Noonan help release the last of Saturday’s fingerlings.

Vintage motorbikes not a thing of the past

There’s the old adage that to be happy in life, you should surround yourself with the things you love. If this is true, then Paul Draper is laughing. The local resident (pictured) has spent more than three decades collecting vintage motorcycles and today enjoys one very impressive collection. In between caring for the Mount Morgan Motel and Van Park with his wife Sharon, Paul spends time restoring motorcycles and adding to a personal museum of bikes and related items from a bygone era. It’s something he has been doing since just eight years of age. “My father was really interested in motorcycles. He used to take me to swap meets where he would find and buy bikes,” Paul said. “Of course I didn’t have a lot of money of my own at the time, so I started off buying bits and pieces. A wheel here, a frame, or a petrol tin. It was great. “There was no EBay at the time so everyone went to the swap meets. They had a huge variety of everything.” Paul has been adding to his collection for more than 35 years, and over time has accumulated some truly remarkable treasures. Today, many items are on display in particular areas of the Van Park, which Paul and Sharon happily present to interested guests. “We have a lot of visitors interested in the collection,” Paul said. “You can really spend hours here chatting to people about things on display. It’s always interesting and there’s plenty to talk about.” The upcoming fortnight will see even more up for discussion, when the Van Park plays host to the upcoming Harley and Indian Bike Rally. The collection is sure to provide the perfect setting for the rally’s participants, who will be staying at the park during the Easter weekend. The event, which kicks off on Good Friday, will see between 20 and 30 vintage motorcycles make their way to the Mount. The bikes will include vintage and veteran models ranging from 1901 to 1953, and when not on the move, will be on display at both the van park and in Morgan Street.

Paul is one of the rally’s local participants eager to see in the weekend. Another is Peter Jongedyk.

The upcoming rally is the brainchild of Peter’s, who like Paul, has a great passion for all things vintage bikes. “I’ve always wanted to do a mixed rally,” Peter said. “We’re excited to see a good mixture of Harleys and Indians coming to Mount Morgan.” Participants of the rally will be staying in Mount Morgan throughout the Easter break, making trips around the local area as well as to Goovigen and The Caves. The event, which has been months in the making will also offer the community the chance to see the motorcycles through a display at the Primary School’s oval on the Saturday morning, 10am. Those unable to attend the main street display can head to the Motel and Van Park between 8am and 9am on the Saturday and Sunday. Peter said he’s looking forward to seeing the bikes brought to the community and hopes all will enjoy the opportunity to see them up close. He said there will also be the chance for a lucky local to take an exciting ride around Mount Morgan. “As part of our display in Morgan Street, there’ll be a “People’s Choice”,” Peter said. “With this you can vote on your favourite bike. Those who do will get the chance to win a Harley Indian Rally t-shirt and a ride around town in a 1944 Indian Chief sidecar.” T-shirts will also be available for purchase during the display. Locals are also invited to bring along any pieces of Mount Morgan motorcycle history they may have. “If anyone has any history of Mount Morgan motorcycles of any make, we’d love to chat to you,” Peter said. “This could be photographs or even bikes. We’d love to help keep these motorbikes on the road.”

Catch Mount Morgan on Creek to Coast

Mount Morgan is set to be hitting television screens around the country this month, thanks to a visit from Channel 7’s popular outdoors program, Creek to Coast. The local area is to be featured in an upcoming episode highlighting must visit locations along the Tropic of Capricorn. Mount Morgan was one of the first official stops for the production team; comprising of Creek to Coast host, Martin Bowerman, TPD Media Producer, Sarah North and TPD Media Cameraman, Jim Maloney. The trio spent last Monday filming various local attractions.

“Mount Morgan is our first stop - heading from the beef capital to a town rich in minerals and history,” Sarah said.

A stop at both the Rail Museum and Historical Museum was also on the itinerary, capturing footage of some Mount Morgan memorabilia. The team then journeyed the surrounds for additional footage, before catching up with local residents Paul and Sharon Draper for their stopover at the Mount Morgan Motel and Van Park.

“Our whole episode is on touring the Tropic of Capricorn as the route for a touring holiday – from Rockhampton to Emerald with a few worthwhile stops in between.”

Mount Morgan is one of four areas to be included in the upcoming episode, also including Blackdown Tableland, Emerald and Lake Maraboon.

“For Mount Morgan’s segment, we’re taking the history angle and the fact that it was one of the most successful mines in the country and the world. We’re looking at what’s still preserved and promoting the area as a must do on a touring holiday of Rockhampton.”

The area is expected to receive some wide coverage, with around 200,000 viewers tuning in to Creek to Coast each week.

Producer, Sarah North said the segment aims to highlight the local area’s well known history.

The Creek to Coast crew commenced their day of Mount Morgan footage with a trip to the heritage listed Gold Mine, where they caught up with TMC Tours for a chat and some filming around the famous site. It was then on to the township for an interview with local resident, Ms Bette Broom.

Catch this Creek to Coast episode: Airing statewide at a special airing on Easter Sunday (April 20), at 5pm on Channel 7. The episode is

expected to replay country wide the following Saturday (April 26) at 3pm on 7TWO. Subject to change. Pictured above: local resident Bette Broom catches up with the production team behind Creek to Coast.

Silver Wattle serves up exciting addition

Summer may be over for the year, but for the Silver Wattle Caravan Park, things are just starting to heat up. The local business has recently unveiled an exciting new addition to the local accommodation stay; with the introduction of a brand new camp kitchen. Local residents and owners of the Silver Wattle, Sarah and Mark Dalton officially completed the works last week. They said they are thrilled with how the park’s new addition has come together. “We’re really rapt with how it has all turned out,” Sarah said. “It’s been a few months of work involved, but it’s been worth it and it looks fantastic.”

And it appears the kitchen’s popularity is no exception for the Silver Wattle.

The new addition was fired up last Monday, and is now available for use by all guests during their stay.

“Since we’ve started using it this week, we’ve had guests using it every night which has been really great,” Sarah said.

The camp kitchen comes complete with just about everything including the kitchen sink; also containing a pizza oven, two BBQs, electric stove, open fire, fridge, TV and various kitchen appliances.

An official opening for the camp kitchen is planned for just after Easter, with further event details to be included in the following Argus.

Sarah and Mark said the outdoor kitchen’s design and structure is loosely based on the Victorian High Country Hut as depicted in The Man from Snowy River.

Pictured: (above) inside the new camp kitchen. (Below) ‘Camp Style’ Pizza, cooked by the Silver Wattle team last Monday. Photos supplied.

The couple said the kitchen and its design was a plan they happily cooked up some time ago. “It has been something we’ve planned on doing since we decided to buy a van park,” Sarah said. “When we had been to caravan parks in the past, the camp kitchen was always a big draw card and something everyone loved to use.”

Strong focus on Mount Morgan’s water upgrades The Mount Morgan community is set to benefit from Fitzroy River Water’s (FRW) current focus on important water main replacements.

“These projects will help to deliver better water flow, water pressure and stronger fire fighting capacity and protection in their areas.

Chair of Council’s Water Committee, Councillor Greg Belz said $507,145 worth of new water main projects were either completed or currently underway in Mount Morgan.

“FRW will continue to progressively move through costly upgrading of Mount Morgan water supply infrastructure to provide strong, reliable infrastructure for current and future generations whilst reducing the maintenance costs associated with ageing infrastructure,” he said.

“A $230,000 new water main on East Street, between Morgan and James Streets, has just been completed and a further two projects costing $277,145 are underway,” Cr Belz said. “The projects currently underway include water main replacements on Dee Street, between East and Edwards Streets, and Thompson and Butler Streets, between Sheil and Tipperary Streets.

Councillor Belz urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise care and common sense around the work sites.

EASTER is a great time to travel and enjoy celebrations with family and friends across the State. With the early start to school holidays, Police will have road safety campaigns in place for the official national Easter period. Covert and marked speed cameras, random breath test patrols and thousands of police officers will be on the state's roads. We all deserve to celebrate and enjoy this very special time so it is important to consider the impact of poor driving decisions, not only on ourselves but also our family, friends and other motorists. We need to be patient, concentrate and focus on the task of driving safely, and that also includes obeying the road rules and being aware of driver fatigue. CHILD PROTECTION REFORMS We are another important step closer to implementing the key reforms recommended by the Child Protection Commission of Inquiry with new legislation introduced in Parliament on Thursday 20 March. The three Bills are an important foundation for extensive reforms that will build a new child and family support system in Queensland that will make it easier for families to get the support they need so that, wherever possible, children can remain at home. Our children are our future and these reforms lay the foundation to make this state the safest place to raise a child and to protect our most vulnerable.

Hi Folks, Continuing with our “Meet the Team” from the Mount Morgan Police, here is our third introduction - Chris. Hi, my name is Chris and I’m a Constable with Mount Morgan Police. I’m originally a Gladstone local however am familiar with the “Mount” with many family ties and time spent here as a youth. I now reside here with my wife Andrea who many of you have no doubt met via the local surgery. Within Mount Morgan Station I deal mainly with traffic offences however am free to discuss any policing related matter from members of the public.

The focus is clearly on supporting families and preventing children entering the child protection system. For more information, visit www.communities.qld. gov.au/gateway/reform-and-renewal/child-and-family/ legislative-reforms-to-child-protection

Range reconstruction - update

RED TAPE REDUCTION BILL New laws introduced into State Parliament this month will reduce regulation and red tape for community groups and service providers that receive Queensland Government funding.

Supplied by the Department of Transport and Main Roads:

Instead of wading through four separate funding programs, community groups can now utilise a new, simple, one-stop process to apply for Community Benefit Fund grants. They will also soon be able to apply for up to $35,000 with just one application. To find out more information about the Communities Legislation (Funding Red Tape Reduction) Amendment Bill 2014, go to www.communities.qld.gov.au/gateway/ reform-and-renewal/social-investment/reducing-andsimplifying-funding-laws BURNETT HIGHWAY MT MORGAN ROCKHAMPTON MT MORGAN UPDATE Following 35 landslips in January 2013, additional safety works including highway resurfacing and 2.2km of guardrail are to be completed while range is still closed to traffic. The detour via Razorback Road is still open and the expected completion date for the Burnett Highway reopening is end May 2014, weather permitting.

We are progressing reconstruction works on the Mount Morgan Range, and expect it will reopen to traffic in late May/early June. While we had to halt site work for four days due to last week’s wet weather, works have returned to full capacity. The Razorback Road remains open to traffic travelling between Mount Morgan and Rockhampton. Motorists using the Razorback Road need to remain vigilant, drive to the conditions and obey all road signage to ensure their own safety as well as that of other road users and road workers.

The Golden Mount Festival’s History:

Did you know that the Golden Mount Festival is a breakaway from the “Back to Mount Morgan Week” festival as it was originally known? There are many missing links with the recorded history of the event. The original festival was held in 1950, and the last one under the specific name of “Back to Mount Morgan Week” was held in 1982 to commemorate the Centenary of the township. The “Back to Mount Morgan Week” was organised by the then known Mount Morgan Advancement Committee under the guidance of Chairman; Daniel Halliday. There are no records to relay what happened in 1971, but in 1972, the festival revived the old time local custom of “Running the Cutter” at the “Springtime Carnival” between the 22nd to 24th of September, 1972 under the Chairmanship of Mr. Mike Woods. The first record of the Golden Mount Festival being run under this name was in 1977. Some 37 years later, our festival committee are busy finalising our program and have endeavoured to introduce a few new items that are sure to be popular crowd pleasers whilst at the same time, acknowledging our rich heritage including the continuing of undoubtedly the most famous and unique traditions of the “Running of the Cutter”. The original tradition of the “Running of the Cutter, consisted of men from the mine who sat on logs or whatever else was available at the back of hotels and drank beer from tin billycans. When the billy became empty, it was taken back to the hotel where it was filled for sixpence. The persons responsible for carrying the empty billycan back to the hotel for refilling, were given a penny for their troubles. This would continue until the miners had their fill. As an added precaution to stop the beer from ‘frothing up’ in the billy, the miner’s would rub cheese around the bottom of the can. The lane behind The Grand Hotel and the Imperial Hotel were known as ‘Cutter’s Lane’ and there was always a supply of empty acid bottles from the mine found in the laneway. Miners would fill these bottles with beer to take home their supply for the night. In this year’s program, on Friday night the 2nd of May at The Dam, we are planning a surprise tribute to allow a celebration of traditional customs symbolic of our Chinese past within our town and Sunday the 4th, will see the revival of the Rodeo. More on this to follow in our programme.

The grant will assist the committee to finalise preparations for the festival in May and the committee thanks the Rockhampton Regional Council for their ongoing support.

14 Hi Argus readers, We hope you’ve been enjoying your fortnightly Argus issues. We always enjoy bringing you some of the local events and happenings of the Mount. Along with the Argus, we have been busy with a few events of late, and in fact this past fortnight has been pretty choccas!

Mount Morgan Billboard!

If you are heading through Rockhampton at all in the near future, you just may spot a few sites from Mount Morgan. This (pictured right) is the artwork now installed on a 3m X 3.6m billboard at the front of the Capricorn Spire! This is our organisation’s very first billboard and we are super excited to see it in full view. It will be on display for the rest of the year, and we hope it will inspire a few to head up the mountain. A big thanks to Pacific Signs for the artwork design and installation, and to Capricorn Enterprise for this advertising opportunity.

Mount Morgan Promotion!:

The Mount has been receiving some exciting promotion of late, with last week seeing not one but two visits from well-known media crews. As you may have read on page 6 - we were lucky enough to score a visit from Channel 7’s Creek to Coast last Monday! The crew spent a day in the Mount filming for an upcoming episode, which will feature Mount Morgan, Blackdown Tableland, Emerald and Lake Maraboon. Don’t forget to catch this episode when it airs at 5pm on Easter Sunday!

Trivia night:

Last Friday evening we hosted our first trivia night for the year. This was in aim of raising funds for the Mount Morgan Rugby Union Club and the 2014 Restocking of the Mount Morgan Dam. A big thanks to all who came along and also to the Rugby Union boys for their help with the BBQ and support on the night. The night saw 16 teams sign up for the 8 round challenge. Congratulations to team “Sum Chance”, who took out first place on the night and the $200 cash prize! This team was our second place winners in our final trivia night in 2013. Well done all!

Last Monday also saw members from ABC Open make a trip to the Mount. They caught up with local resident and former Mine employee, Mr Ken Reid for a special feature on the Mount Morgan Mining years. Ken’s interview and some fantastic footage can now be found on ABC Open’s website. Be sure to check it out! https://open.abc.net.au/posts/mount-morgan-mine50wr3ai Mount Morgan and the Mine is also set to feature on a special segment of ABC Open later this month, which features mining towns past and present. We’ll be sure to let you know when this is online.

Restocking:

As you would have spotted on page 3, the Mount Morgan Dam is now home to thousands of new fish fingerlings! This is an annual project of ours, and one we are always very excited to be able to carry out. A big thanks to all who came along on Saturday and joined us in introducing the 8,000 new aquatic babies to our local waterway. A special thanks also to Mr John Hehir for his support on the day and to Hanwood Fish Hatchery for making the long trip to us! Please don’t forget to keep us informed on your future catches from the Dam. This helps us monitor the growth of our fish previously stocked, particularly those that were introduced in 2010 and 2011 which are now legal catching size. Perhaps we could commence a “What a Catch” column in the Argus??

Congrats also to “The Milson Crew” who came in at second. A sincere thank you also goes to The Milson Crew, who donated their $100 cash prize to our fundraising.

by Trish & Greg Mathers Racket on the roof at night?? More than likely it is brushtail possums. They are noisier than usual at the moment as it is mating season, and the males are chasing reluctant females around. The females are also trying to dissuade their backrider babies from hitching a ride any time they like. It is quite amusing to see a mother possum with a baby on her back that is just as big as her. It must be very hard climbing trees while trying to carry almost your own weight on your back. Please be patient. The racket usually only lasts a couple of weeks, then it is back to normal. Often we are asked how to remove possums from within the roof. The problem is really that you have a space where the possums can get in. It wouldn’t matter how many times you removed a possum, another would take its place. Nature abhors a vacuum! What you need to do is identify the place the possum is getting in and out. You can do this by looking in the manhole (if you have one) in the daytime. It should be all dark in the ceiling. If you can see light, then this is probably where the problem lies. Possums can squeeze through very small spaces. Once you have identified any possible entry points, then you can either wait until they have left and plug the hole, or you can make a small door with hinges that will only open outwards. This you can put up anytime, as the possum will push it open to get out, but won’t be able to get back in. Why not just move the possum to another location?? Well, for one, it is totally illegal, and there is a very good reason for this. Possums are territorial and will fight to the death if necessary to defend their area. If someone removes a possum and releases it elsewhere, it will be attacked, and very likely killed, in the new area by the resident possums. If it is not killed it could be seriously injured and will die a horrible cruel death. Alternately it will try and make its way home. After all, it is its home too! While some can and do make it home, the majority will die trying. There are just too many obstacles in the way, including other possums, dogs, cars, etc. etc. Legally you are allowed to move a possum no more than 25 metres from its home. It is a good idea to provide alternate accommodation for the possum/s and try and encourage it into its new home. You can make possum boxes (lots of good plans on the internet), or put up a hollow log or similar. Put some food out the front of their new home for a few weeks and they should settle in quite nicely, giving you some peace and quiet! Another option is to stop them getting up to the roof, by cutting back branches that may be close to your house; or alternatively you can put smooth tin around the trunk of the trees they climb up. This means they cannot get a grip and therefore don’t have access to your roof. It is relatively easy to live in harmony with wildlife. Just a bit of commonsense and the realisation that they have just as much right to live as we do!!

News from Welfare Bowls

By Paul Harrison Deputy Director-General of Mine Safety and Health in the Department of Natural Resources and Mines

Sunday, April 30th saw Brian Glover’s Annual President’s Day on Welfare’s Green.

The heritage-listed Mount Morgan Mine site in central Queensland will continue to have a key role in drawing tourists to the region with the signing of a new three-year agreement between the Queensland Government and TMC Tours.

16 teams from around Central Queensland attended, with teams from Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Emu park, Wowan, Theodore, Moura, Gracemere and the Mount Morgan Dee. Winners on the day were Moura BC, with Rockhampton BC being the runners up.

The Department of Natural Resources and Mines awarded the contract to local firm TMC Tours after expressions of interest to provide a tour or tourism-related business on the historic mine site about 40km south of Rockhampton were called last December. TMC Tours had previously organised group visits to the site. The company operates a professional, unique and friendly tour, giving people a first-hand experience of the rich history of what was Queensland’s largest gold mine.

Mount Morgan put on perfect weather for the day. A great day was enjoyed by all and many thanks to all the volunteers that made the day possible. Pictured: Winning Team Moura B.C. President Ken Self with team and Brian Glover. Photo supplied.

The Queensland Government recognises the importance of the tourism vision for Mount Morgan, and is well aware of the community interest in ensuring the mine site is an integral part of the experience for visitors to the region. This is despite the current closure of the Fireclay Caverns, due to health and safety restrictions. Access around the historic mine site continues in all other approved areas however; giving an interpretation of the historic and heritage values in mining, as well as an understanding of the management of the site today by the department’s Abandoned Mines Unit. With new marketing campaigns, TMC Tours is looking forward to welcoming a number of visitors to the site. As part of the tour, visitors will be taken through the historic General Office Building, up to the large open cut pit viewing area and to the Linda Decline mine shaft. Mount Morgan was a copper, silver and gold mine that operated for more than a century until it closed in 1990. It is one of the oldest mines in Australia and in its heyday was one of the richest. It brought wealth to Rockhampton and was a significant factor in European settlement there. The Queensland Government’s priorities at the site are public safety and water management, including an intensive program each year to prepare for the annual wet season. Preparation works for the current Wet Season included upgrading electricity capacity of the site, improving all-weather access in conjunction with Rockhampton Regional Council, and increasing the capacity of the water treatment plant. The level of the open-cut pit water is now 1.5 metres below the spillway. This has been achieved through the ongoing operation of the site’s lime-based water treatment plant, and evaporators that remove water from the mine pit at a rate of up to 15mm per day. It has also been aided by lower rainfall this season and improvements in site management. We continue to work at lowering the level of water in the pit, which is a key strategy in managing the potential environmental impacts of the former mine. If you would like any further information about the department’s program at Mount Morgan please contact the Mount Morgan Mine Team: 4938 4688 / abandonedmines@dnrm.qld.gov.au

Chilli & Sesame Beef Noodles For One

(On display at the Mount Morgan Museum)

On Bill’s Bike by Frank Clark Okay easy meal for one that is cheap but must tick the nutrition box, plus be a bit spicy. For this, I’ve come up with this little Chilli & Sesame Beef Noodles dish. It serves one and costs about $4 a serve. I tried it last week. I’d been welding most of the morning in the sun, so we stopped for lunch and a Siesta… So I made and ate a lovely light Chilli & Sesame Beef Noodles. Now it was awesome and bloody hot hot hot. I was a lather of sweat. Yes you can up size the amount to feed a family of four - just times the quantity by four and you’ve got a hearty Chilli & Sesame Beef Noodles dish for the chilly days ahead. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Shopping list: • 150g beef strips (I used rib fillet) • 1 small onion • 1 packet instant noodles (I use Mi-Goreng noodles) • 2 tablespoon sesame oil • 3 teaspoon chilli flakes (you can add more or reduce if you like) • 2 teaspoon soya sauce (light) • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika • 1 teaspoon lemon juice • pinch black pepper • 500ml beef stock (cook noodles in but keep for sauce)

How to make it:

First, add beef strips and onions with soya sauce, chilli flakes and paprika, pepper and lemon juice in a small bowl. Cover with clingwrap and put a knife hole in this cover. Cook for 3 minutes in the microwave. While this is cooking, add your packet of Mi-Goreng noodles into the boiling beef stock plus the contents of the spices/ seasoning and oil/sauces from the noodle packet. After this, cook for 3 minutes then add beef chilli mix which is preheated in the microwave oven. Now add the sesame seed oil and serve. Enjoy with a nice cup of green tea or lemon tea.

When he was learning to ride the bike I was at school learning to write Now the bike is in the Museum secure I am writing lines that would have made him laugh for sure This bike in its original state had a trailer Taking batteries to the charger or to the trader Propelled by pedal power With a torque of one manpower Later on it was transformed Into its stretched frame form At the bicycle shop did Richie McClean have a hand In changing its conjuration around How would one turn this beast Around on the footpath down the street Back in those times it was equipped with a spiral spring seat Bill at his best while riding his bike up and down the street
