DreamHome opens again this Spring! DreamHome: The Design House at The Merchandise Mart™ returns with sass! Opening this April the house will don the theme “Cool Elegance”. With a nod to comfortable living and a hint of modern sophistication this house will exude style throughout. DreamHome kicks off its eight month run with a fabulous preview gala, Thursday, April 15, 6-9 p.m. to benefit The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation (UCCRF) Women’s Board. Guests at the DreamHome Preview Party will be the first to see the design house, meet the designers and support the UCCRF Women’s Board in its mission to make cancer a thing of past. The gala is open to the public and draws some of Chicago’s most notable leaders in design, fashion and art for an exciting night filled with fine food, wine and design all in the name of charity. SEWonderful Quilts now in Suite 1527A The Design Center is now home to SEWonderful Quilts, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that specializes in quilts made from leftover fabrics from some of the design world’s most renowned textile brands creating one-of-a-kind quilts for children with life-threatening illnesses. Founded more than 5 years ago by interior designer, Francine Spacek, SEWonderful Quilts’ mission is to donate handmade quilts to children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Additionally, they help the environment by using discontinued fabrics to make the one-of-a-kind gifts. SEWonderful Quilts works with volunteers from the Chicago area who donate their time and heart to help children in need. For more information visit SewonderfulQuilts.org

Lalique opens in Suite 1867 Thursday, February 25, 2010 | 4-6 p.m. Suite 1867 Lalique, world recognized purveyor of fine crystal, jewelry and perfume, along with Daum, crafters of elegant hand-made glass and crystal sculptures, and Haviland, one of the most prestigious global Limoges porcelain brands, join to present their creations together to the trade at the new Lalique, Daum and Haviland Showroom. Opening in early 2010 in suite 1867, this will be the first Lalique showroom dedicated to highlighting its architectural elements and is intended to serve as a resource for architects and interior designers. Lalique product highlights in the showroom will include a custommade fountain composed of the iconic Masque de Femme and Coutard Panels, as well as a customized, large-scale rectangular version of the popular Cactus Table and pieces from the new Cristalight lighting collection, featuring LED technology. LinenMe Coming Soon to Suite 1524A LinenME was started by London-based Interior designer Inga Lukauskiene whose strong passion for home textiles sparked her focus on pure linen. She has created styles from classic, modern, trendy, luxurious or whimsical. Over the years Lukauskiene has come to the conclusion that pure linen, like any natural fiber has some sort of magic powers and she has shared her expertise, skills and passion with her LinenMe customers. LinenMe has luxury products that are affordable and available for any home and style. All of her textiles are produced in a small family-owned manufacturing facility in Lithuania, a country with deep traditions in flax growing, weaving and linen production. Inga feels it is an honor that she can present a little piece of her heritage from this small Baltic country with true masters of hand hemstitching and embroidering.

Converso Brings Mid-Century Modern To THe Mart, Suite 1709 Lawrence Converso established CONVERSO in 1993, specializing in the furnishings and sculpture of mid-century modern American designers. Among those whose works he has featured are Charles Eames, Eero Saarinen, Isamu Noguchi, George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Paul Mc Cobb, Paul Evans, Craig Ellwood and James Prestini, as well as current practitioners such as Frank Gehry and Richard Meier. He has a particular interest in furniture by architects and in rare prototypes and limited-edition works. Converso’s clients have included The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, as well as many household names in the movie, television and music industries. This sculptural, dramatic chandelier has a classic Greek key pattern frame, which is adorned with strands of beads and rock crystal pendants. The second, Hinson Grasscloth Jute, is expertly woven from natural fibers gathered from the outer layers of stems of the Jute plant. Jute is 100% biodegradable and regenerative.
