How we communicate has changed dramatically in the last 30 years: letters have been replaced by emails and SMS text messages by Whatsapp ones and physical meetings by Zoom ones. Public Relations is the way organizations, companies and individuals communicate with the public and media, and that’s why MMSA decided we should have public relations in our association, and as Jean-Louis Gassée said “Advertising is saying you’re good. PR is getting someone else to say you’re good”. The real challenge is about choosing the right partners to communicate with and the right way of communication, and that’s where we come: The PR! In this newsletter, you will find a summary of all activities that we have succeeded to achieve during this past term. We hope you all would feel energized after getting through this newsletter.

Our Recruitment campaign This year was starting with a bunch of struggles, from low member engagement, capacity instability and fear of the vague future. That's why we were obliged as MMSA's Board to bear more efforts on our recruitment campaign more than ever! The Recruitment theme was, “Your contributions in achieving the SDGs” The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet; the SDGs are 17 , representing different goals. MMSA's recruitment campaign was reflecting on each one of the SDGs from the perspectives of our standing committees, divisions, and EB job descriptions. The campaign was based mainly on personal videos to get the members to know their bord more as well as introductory posts about the committees and divisions. The total campaign reach was ….. Greetings & Orientaion It has been years now since we set this as a protocol! The 1st booming physical event for this year, this orientation session was attended by 75 members representing all the committees. The session started with a word from our president about What MMSA is? What are our working areas? What could we add to you and provide you as a MMSA member? MMSA’s structure, history, and future plans. Then the mic went to our officers and directors to talk more about their plans, their vision for this year, their respective national team, and available opportunities.

articles MMSA vs pandemic Despite all the challenges that faced the global community since the COVID-19 Pandemic, and faced us as a medical association as well as avoided us from reaching one of our main goals is to share awareness among medical, nonmedical students, and the public community. But considering our important role, our innovative team started to dig variable pathways to reach the public and students on different levels and including more various topics ever than before. We wisely used our pages and accounts on all social media platforms to spread the awareness constantly and on a regular basis. We frankly faced a lot of obstacles in these circumstances to reach our quest, like lack of motivation and desire for continuity as a side effect of the pandemic, which tried as hard as we can to keep our members motivated and integrate them into different activities and providing them more local and national opportunities. Another important matter is to reinforce our publication team, which became the cornerstone of the majority of MMSA's activities, and we
overcome this obstacle by providing a number of members who are interested in graphic designing a Publication camp which included sessions about graphic designing, corporate identity and how to use Canva utility to execute publication materials, this team is working on all MMSA's publication materials since then till this very moment. And of course, no one can ignore MMSA's full attention on the matter of COVID-19 and its vaccination process and how We try as hard as we can to concentrate our forces to encourage the public and students to get vaccinated through posting materials about the subject on our platforms and Webinars with specialized physicians which are all allowed to the public. I, personally, believe that MMSA's effort in maintaining the awareness flow during the time of the pandemic is unique and outstanding, and I can dare to compare it to other NGOs who are meaning of the same causes as MMSA.

Winter camp xI Experience
The experience of the Winter Camp this year was exceptional and different. As the virtual Winter Camp gave us many opportunities and removed many obstacles, the most famous of which was the inability to travel to attend it we do not deny that the physical Winter Camp is still the best and has a special pleasure and spirit. The pre-winter Camp was divided, as usual, to Pre winter and Winter sections, and MMSA shined in the winter camp through Miss Rawan AlBaghdadi and Miss Arwa AlBaghdadi where they were trainers at the SCORA sessions in the pre-winter camp which lasted for four days.
─
Since the members who will be able to attend the Winter Camp have been chosen, they have been grouped into a WhatsApp group; it was full of encouragement and enthusiasm all the time.
The most distinctive thing about this group was its members, as the delegation consisted of twenty members of the best members in MMSA. The Winter Camp lasted for five days: we used to start the day always with the confirmation for the roll call, then members of the Delegation were busy in the sessions they attended, and during breaks, we used to share our pictures with the food and remember the days of Physical GAs when we used to announce the food arrived on the delegation group. At the end of each day, we used to hold a meeting called LC hour to take updates of the day, what was explained in the sessions, and a general and compreh-ensive assessment of what happened during the day, the extent benefits from the presented sessions

and if there was any complaint about the sessions. And when we come to the end, it must always be the best, as we presented in Presentation Fair with a local project ( Maternal health) that we had worked on two years ago, and the moment came to culminate in success through this presentation fair through Miss Naira Waheeb who presented a wonderful presentation through which we won the first place. And when we come to the end, it must always be the best, a we presented in Presentation Fair with a local project Maternal health that we had worked on two years ago, and the moment came to culminate in success through this
presentation fair through Miss Naira Waheeb who presented a wonderful presentation through which we won First Place. Last but not least, I want to mention the last LC hour in which the members talked about the exceptional experience they lived and wished to repeat it, and how it greatly contradicted their expectations, and they all praised the president of the association, Miss Rawan AlBaghdadi, and she deserved this praise well.

Acoordinators word from our local Being a WAC coordinator has taught me a lot about the STIs condition both medically and socially. It opened my eyes and heightened my senses on the importance of taking time to listen rather than judge and label. Ali Hisham World AIDS Campain Coordinator
First of all, it was a great opportunity to hold this work as a local coordinator for the first time; I thought it would exhaust me, but later on, I was so much experienced from how the new informative spotlights about the project, never to mention meeting new friends with different aspects of the project, I really am very grateful for this opportunity.
18
Muhammad Hamed Gender-Based Violence Coordinator
Taking the mission and choosing to be the local coordinator for this project especially was a challenge, but my love for SCOME motivated me to take such a leap of faith especially that this project is one of the most important projects in SCOME if it wasn’t the most important at all. This mission taught me a lot about the basis of medical education development and my rights as well as my responsibilities in this process. Not to mention the joy I had while getting to know fellow friends from other LCs sharing with me my enthusiasm and I was overwhelmed with this opportunity. Abdelrahman Elfeky Toward Better Medical Education Coordinator
Taking a position as a local coordinator was not an easy step for me at first. I thought it would exhaust me then I found that it was my chance for this as I got lots of experience, met new people and improved myself in many fields. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I am looking forward to more success in the future.

EXCHANGE Despite all the difficulties and uncertainties we’ve all been facing ever since the COVID-19 pandemic has started, we still managed to keep our heads held high and soared through the term without letting anything bring us down! We started off this year by holding an online campaign, kicking it off with an introductory video from our previous exchangers; we were able to reach around 1000 views, as well as a reach of 2000 people! The campaign allowed everyone to know what our exchange program is, why they should join us, and how to do so. It was then followed by daily posts letting them know more about the available 18 new contracts to allow them to consider their options. It did its job by reaching an average of 900 views per post! Despite the difficulties of holding a physical campaign through these circumstances, we still managed to safely have one, which allowed people to share their questions and helped with the publicity even more. We concluded our campaigns with an online orientation session that gathered 30 attendees and was also shared live on Facebook, with 700 views, and a reach of 1500. During this orientation, we looked closely at the exchange process and answered more detailed questions.
20
Outgoings Soon enough, we started our main work of the year: candidate selection. As usual, we began the process by holding an exam that attracted 65 candidates, followed by the first-ever online interview: since this whole process was during our midterms, and we wanted it to be as efficient and convenient as possible. The interviews were held throughout two very long days, but we managed to get through 50 interviews and have our candidate list ready! We then contacted every candidate who managed to get a contract and moved on to the next phase! We got all our contracts signed and supported the exchangers with the required paperwork and helped them to fill out their AFs accurately on time. This concludes where we are today. Of course, more phases will be coming up, including the PDT, but we’ll leave that for another time.
21
Throughout all the processes we went through and all the sleepless nights, I have to send out thanks and gratitude to my lovely assistants and exchange team who made all of this possible!

Jococo Co-working Space This partnership was established in November, 2020 and still ongoing till this moment. The aim was providing our LC better logistical facilities to ease the implementation of local workshops and meetings. On the other hand, giving our members beneficial discounts and special membership in the Co-Working space to provide them a space for quiet studying and work. ML LAB AS numbers of COVID-19 patients within our college were increasing, we found ourselves in an urgent need for providing our members and students within the college a well-trusted lab for undergoing the COVID-19 basic tests with a minimal budget for insurance of it’s liability and accessibility for most of the students. ML LAB provided us with a COVID-19 tests’ packages with special offers and discounts for our members and medical students as a whole. Earn Digital Summit 2020 It is a regional conference that is held every year for youth with the inclusion of a huge number of VIP speakers and partnerships. This collaboration was for the sake of capacitating our members with skills and knowledge even beyond medicine. Learning about different new technological methodologies and artificial intelligence is an international trend that needs our attention. Providing this opportunity for members was an extra plus in the field of members capacity building and external affairs.

SCORA
SCORA has always been shining throughout the past years UNTIL COVID-19 came into our lives! At first, there was a state of being upset and worried that we may not be able to complete on the same path, but surprisingly, we achieved great success throughout the past term working on several projects.
We started the term with a Breast Cancer initiative so we held an online webinar conducted by Dr.Samar Omran in collaboration with "Cansurvive".

These were some of our highlights of the last term, and to be continued in the upcoming term.
SCOPH
For this year and as always SCOPH was concerned by all the global health issues worldwide!
For our first term as SCOPHeroes in MMSA we worked perfectly on the Antimicrobial Resistance campaign and shared in the national movement to raise awareness on this topic. The impact started by attending the national TOT and helding our local workshop which was attended by almost 25 participants and was conducted by our fresh AMR graduate trainer, Ms. Ganna.
26
Then we started our first physical campaign for this year reaching almost 250 year reaching almost 250 medical,
para-medical and non-medical students. And as we are all fighting nowadays to cope with the new normal life under the umbrella of the pandemic, it was a top A priority for us as public health advocates to speak up about the current situation of COVID19 and the proposed vaccines worldwide! “What's next in COVID-19” was our session in MMSA’S CB Fest conducted by our NPO Mr. Hamdy Shaheen and attended by 20 participants. We also have two of our best members as representatives in National small working groups: Mr. Kamal Elkalamawy and Mr. Ahmed Elameen. In the end we have been chosen as Best working LC among IFMSA-Egypt LCs in April.
SCORP
We all face, either watch injustice everyday life, and we just keep thinking what if we behaved differently. And here comes our role in SCORP! We aim to achieve peace and justice in our society as far as we can go, through working on so many topics. This year we have raised awareness about Bullying, its types and how to face it to 25 medical students that attended the project’s online workshop. Never to forget the Gender-Based Violence project through an online campaign about 16 days of activism that reached over 200 people, and an online workshop. We celebrated International Women’s Day through 8 posts shared on Facebook platform about Women Empowerment as a phase of Home Mates national project that mentioned famous women of all areas of the society and the average reach of all posts is 844 reaches. Last but not least, we also celebrated International Human Rights Day with a Facebook profile picture frame that reached over 1000 people.

SCOME
Despite the difficult circumstances facing us, we will always be on our way. SCOME always works on developing medical education and serving students in this process to improve their abilities and skills, so we started with a Medical Presentation Competition. The competition had three stages: the online campaign, and it reached about 1790 views, a webinar to explain presentation skills conducted by Mrs.Basma Zahran, and it was attended by 10 members, and finally, the competition was with the participation of 5 competitors with the presence of a jury consisting of faculty members at the university.

CApacity building fest On the 23rd of Jan, 2021, one of MMSA’s biggest events took place: MMSA’s first CB Fest! As CB was and will always be one of our main strategic pillars, it was a big concern to think that the COVID-19 pandemic situation could affect our capacity building. And after a lot of deadlines, tasks, and a hectic working period, we finally came up with the first edition of MMSA’s CB Fest! The mega event was held on 7 consecutive days, from 23rd to 29th of January with a total of 13 sessions: 2 per day from 5 pm to 9 pm. The Fest sessions covered everything that could jump up to our members’ minds: sessions on our advocacy topics, fundraising, external affairs, and project management with the high standard was chosen speakers from IFMSA-Egypt TO, IFMSA IT, MMSA’s certified trainers, and lots of national and international trainers.

It was not only an event for online sessions but we also modified it to be a members’ engagement event as well, so we created a bunch of activities that were shared with the participants daily in order to keep them on track, to create new friendships and to get emotionally connected with each other and with our blue family, MMSA.
30
The impact of this mega event did not only affect MMSA members but we were also honored with the attendance of other LCs’ members who added a lot to our event. Then, we announced the top 3 members who attended the largest number of hours in this Fest in order to appreciate their commitment and to encourage others as well.

MID-YEAR GENERAL ASSEMBLY Call for OC, preparatory meetings, decorations, knowledge center, and a day full of activities, reports, engagement, and unforgettable moments to all MMSAians. This is how our local GA used to look like for the past 10 years. But as everything changed, everything was shifted to an online setting, and we were obliged to cope with this transitional period in MMSA’s life and the whole world.
On the 30th and 31st of Dec, MMSA held its very first online GA. This GA was under the theme of:
“Are we affected by COVID-19 or quarantine?”
This decision was made upon consultation with our board and supervising Council, to think about all the perspectives of such an online event: Will it be impactful? Will it build the capacity of our members? Will it replace the main event vibes and memories? And so, we took the risk and started our online promotion phase and

registration process. And surprisingly, it was perfectly amazing!
This OGA needed from us as MMSA’s board to think outside the box and come up with new ideas and activities that would suit an online setting GA.
The GAs agenda was created to be: The first day: Panel discussion and SC sessions The second day: SC sessions and closing ceremony
This outstanding event started with a fruitful panel discussion with a bunch of amazing panelists from MMSA’s alumni and TO representatives about how they cope with the lockdown period and their stress management plans to look at the effect of the COVID-19 from all our committee's perspectives. Then, we moved on to 2 days of SC sessions, tackling the theme event on how this lockdown affected our advocacy plans and public health progression strategies. And of course no GA without reports

transparency assurance! This GA was a big leap for MMSA’s online digital life; it adds a lot to our personal development, our memories, and our members' engagement.

Trainings For the first time in MMSA, as well as IFMSA-Egypt, trainings became divided into waves. We will be working on 4 waves throughout the year that focus on everything related to members, trainers, local coordinators, assistants and even how to deal with burnout of your members. These waves have made it easier for our work and more organised for our members. So let’s take a tour to see what was done through this semester:

WE STAND WITH AL AQSA By Eid Elfitr and by the end of holy month of Ramadan, while all muslims in every place in the world are receiving the Eid with an life-loving smiles and new souls and cloths, this happiness went sadness, grieve and war for our people in Palestine. I started when the families in Sheikh Jarrah district, Jerusalem faced the risk of forcible eviction from their own houses and give these houses, with no right, to israeli settlers, this district has been facing many successful trials of forcible evictions of Palestinian people. In addition to, tighten the Palestinan’s freedom of speech, freely enter or leave their houses nor the streets, while the settlers move freely under the cover and protection of the israeli police. In addition do that, since the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan, Al Aqsa Mosque has been under attack and forcible invasion of israeli police and settlers, where they forbid muslims from praying freely and they attacked the palestinians in the mosque with rubber bulletes and gas bombs. Lastly, Gaza strip has been under heavy missile attack from the israeli occupational army for two 10 days, that attacks directly residential, health care buildings and schools. These attacks results in death of 250 martyrs include +65 children. All of this with full absence of media coverage. For all of these mentioned events, We as MUST Medical Students’ Association Condemn all the terroristic and settling actions as well as, all patterns of ethnic cleansing and racism by the israeli occupation authorities. And we call on all students’ organizations and associations to speak up for the palestinian people’s right of speech, live and pray, and to condemn all these actions that violate blatantly all norms of international humanitarian law.
