Happy New Year Sorors! IN THIS ISSUE Freedom Fund Award

Youth Induction

Penn Food Pantry

I hope that you are ending 2013 reflecting on wonderful memories and rejoicing in those to come. As we begin to prepare for 2014, I ask that you set some time aside to reflect on your purpose in Zeta. Begin to consider the impact that we make on our local and global communities and how you will fit in during the upcoming sorority year. For 58 years Epsilon Rho Zeta has worked tirelessly to maintain a strong presence as a community leader and partner in New Castle County. Over the last few years we have revitalized the legacy of Epsilon Rho Zeta. We are a beacon once again for change and action and it is important that we maintain this legacy as documented in our Atlantic Region History book.

In the last nine years EPZ began to transform and revitalize its legacy. Under the leadership of Soror Johnson we increased our membership and began to work on community outreach. She set a path to move our membership forward and to impact the community. Soror Lindsey established community partnerships and service programs that allowed us to collaborate with many different organizations. During my tenure I have worked on maintaining and supporting their visions but also improving our leadership and programmatic structure by placing EPZ in multiple positions of recognition for the work we are doing collectively and individually. Our Youth programs have received both local and national recognition in the public and within Zeta. We have been recognized by the NAACP for our work with youth and young women in New Castle County. Although our chapter is

has recognized our work via social media and through other media outlets. As a result of our efforts including our business savvyines, organizational skills and implementation of our curriculums and workshop series, for both our youth and the community we have re-established EPZ as a leader within our community.

Areas of growth Sorors, I must also be honest about some of our setbacks. We have not supported our own events as we have done in the past which has caused us to cut back on programs and our ability to provide more outreach in the community. We must remember to support our own in order to maintain our success. We are only as good as our Zeta Image, and it begins with each one of us. Through the years our membership has grown and declined for various reasons. Unfortunately the workforce of our chapter has often fallen on the backs of a few because of those changes. But our work and commitment has never waivered because when Zeta needed you, my Sorors you have answered the call. With this being said, under the new leadership of our International Grand Basileus Mary B. Wright there is a focus on membership! IGB Wright has focused on membership privileges and being financial will afford you information, access, and the ability to participate on various levels as a member. She has declared to move our organization to new paths as stated in her national motto‌.Building on the Principles of Zeta while Blazing New Paths. Our focus has to be on building a better tomorrow and that ability comes with our commitment to staying financial in order for our organization to thrive.

So I leave you with this final thought, can you give a little more to Zeta? Identify what you can give and set 2014 as the year you give a little more to ZPhiB. Sisterly Zeta Love, Soror Curi Lawrence

If the Bra Fits, Wear it If the straps dig into your shoulders, leaving red marks or causing shoulder or neck pain, the bra band is not offering enough support, breast tissue overflows at the top of the bra. That bra is not a fit for you. Nordstrom’s was the host for the ‘Fabulous Fit Academy’. Sorors and the Archonette Club were educated on what makes a bra a good fit for ‘you’ and things you should know about a bra. Ladies were measured and provided the direction on what should work for their body type.

50th Anniversary March on Washington On August 28, 2013, thousands of citizens from across the country converged upon our nation’s capital to commemorate and celebrate the historic March On Washington which occurred 50 years ago on August 28, 1963. Several members of Epsilon Rho Zeta traveled down to answer the call for social action. Although we were not able to connect with our International Grand our purpose was still strong.
