Renewed in Renaissance
Written by Rachel Hale, Culture EditorWhat does it mean to be born again? This year, the Wisconsin Union Directorate’s Publications Committee Literary Festival, a week centered around celebrating literary work and storytelling, focused on the idea of Renaissance in light of the impact COVID-19 has brought onto our worlds. Moda interpreted this theme from a personal perspective, considering how this time of transformative change has influenced our style influences, artistry and connections to our community.
Coming off of a year where the essence of our work was heavily constrained, we are cel ebrating the regeneration of the core of Moda’s identity: our community of creatives. The books and styles we highlight in the following
pages explore this same renewal on an individ ual level—in the ways we recover from grief, ex pand our notions of love, pull inspiration from nature and reestablish our relationships with those around us.
The original European Renaissance fervently promoted new cultural and artistic forms, but it also saw a surge in antiquity and ancient Greco-Roman values. Likewise, this mini is about returning to the old with renewed perspective. We hope Renaissance links the foundations of our past to the innovations of our current space and implores you to consider the same rejuvenation within yourself.
