Q&A's Interview by JILL WINKLER
What inspired you to get into acting? I was an only child so I used my imagination a lot. I moved around because my dad was in the Navy, so I would just adapt to my environment and become different people everywhere I moved. Sometimes I didn't bother to even make friends. I would just watch people and be really weird and shy.
Our cover star, Kiersey Clemons, is imbued with a particularly playful charm, along with a mischievous eccentricity that has made her one of the the most standout actresses of the year. Modeliste sat down with Kiersey on-set and this is what we learned about this starlet's rise to stardom and what this year has in store.
What was one of the first roles you ever were cast in? I think that one of the first roles I was cast in and was most proud of was Dope. How long have you been acting since you got your role in Dope? I've been acting overall for eight years, but I did theater before that. So basically, the majority of my life. What made Dope so special? The entire overall experience is what made Dope so special, it was essentially the love that we had for each other. That sounds so cheesy. The success that we had, and didn't know we were going to have was amazing. It was kind of our first time, all of us, even Rocky and Chanel, none of us had done something like that before. Could you feel it in your heart, that something that you guys were creating was special? No. I don't feel that you always feel when you're making something special. It's rare for that to happen. For the most part, you know that there's a lot of movies that go unnoticed that are really good. That kind of happened to Dope. It wasn't until it was streaming online that a lot of people saw it and liked it.

You have a lot of movies coming out this year. Tell us about the Only Living Boy in New York that's coming out in August. Only Living Boy in New York is the first movie that I made with people that I looked up to. I've work with lots of other great people previously, but not people like Jeff Bridges and obvious Cynthia Nixon. When I think about filming a movie in New York, I think that it's like Sex in the City. Tell us about the shoot today. What was your favorite look? In my shoot today with Modeliste, we did a lot of dresses but I loved the pantsuit, the blazer and the pants. It looked kind of like a romper and it was really sophisticated and sexy. The designer of the pantsuit was Fosto. It falls on my body really nicely which is hard to find for my body shape. I'm always a really big fan of that because it's rare. You are also a very talented singer. Who or what inspired you to pursue music? I think it was mostly my mom and my grandma. A lot of people in my family sing, not professionally, but they can all carry a tune. How long have you been singing for? I've been singing kind of my whole life, but I probably started in primarily when I was in musical theater. That's where I learned the most and I was 14. Can we expect any music from you soon? I'm going to release music soon. I always record stuff and then I listen to it too much so I start to hate it. I just have to trust myself and hopefully something comes out this year.
What's your sound? What's your vibe? My vibe in music is probably feel good. It's not a genre, but it feels good. You can listen to it in the morning or in the car, or whatever. How would you describe your fashion style? I would describe my fashion style as relaxed and clean sometimes. What inspires you fashion-wise? I think my sister inspires me most. She's really thrifty and creative. I think there are a lot of women that are shaped like me. I find a lot of them on Instagram and blogging and stuff--I like that a lot. Who are some of your favorite designers that design for women of your curviness? I wear a lot of DVF because Jonathan Saunders is the new Creative Director. I love the way that their dresses fall on my body. I mean, DVF is made for, and caters to curvy women and hourglass figures and so obviously they still kept that. I really appreciate it. What are the three things that you can never leave the house withoutnot including your wallet or phone. I was going to say my wallet. I cannot leave the house without my giant jug of water, probably a tinted chapstick, and I think a hat. I always have a hat.
It's one of the first photos that pops up on Google. I got to get it taken down so hard. What is your favorite late night treat? Oh, my favorite late night treat is probably those little brownie bites that you can get at like Ralph's. Those are so good. You think you can have one, but eat the whole box. Oh yeah. Okay back to acting. Kiersey: Okay. Those brownie bits though... I’m still thinking about them! Tell us about your upcoming role in the Only Boy in New York. What did you find most challenging playing this part? In Only Living Boy in New York, I play a girl named Mimi. She's in school and likes to write and read. She's very intelligent and artistic. I play opposite Callum Turner and I think it was both of our first experience like that. It was nice to kind of lean on each other and be like, “I'm nervous!” Working with all the people that we did, they're all very respectable and I think we really looked up to them. You have a lot of movies coming out this year! Yeah.

What inspired you to create the line? I usually start by looking at elements from visual cultures. I am an art lover. I like to take references from different period of history, particularly from the antiquity. I grew up in the south of Italy where historical sites and antique architectures surround you all the time. I am still affected by that.
History influences my style both in terms of aesthetics and handcrafting techniques. Moreover, I like to discover new trends coming from different part of the world. I do my best to make different kind of beauty coexist. I mix elements coming from different aesthetic scheme. This is why I like to work with people who have background in art history, graphic design, or generally outside the fashion system. I really believe that a various environment helps me create the right synergy to design something original and different. Tell us about your latest collection. In the Fall Winter 2017 I tried to make tangible the relationship between the pre-Raphaelite aesthetic, the British artistic movement of the 19th century, and the stylistic trends that are drastically changing the world of high fashion today, making it increasingly closer with the street-reality. What do you see as the top Fall 2017 fashion trends? I personally don’t believe in trends anymore. I think that – nowadays – designers express themselves freer than how they used to do in the past. People demands distinctiveness. Are there any rules to fashion you live by? Break them. Overcome your limits as soon as you believe it is the right moment to do it. Best advice you've ever received. My fiancé or The Office tv show (preferably Michael Scott). What is your favorite book series? Harry Potter of course! What was your favorite part about the Bahamas? Seeing all the shipwrecks. I find it so fascinating to hear the history behind them. What 3 emojis describe your personality. Poop emoji, Monkey emoji, and Blue Heart emoji. You also do vlogs - what are some tips that you would share with someone who was just starting out? Be consistent and interactive! What does your “Perfect Spring Break” look like? Relaxing on the beach reading one of my favourite books :)
What activities do you do to stay fit? I run a lot and weight train. What’s something you wish you could tell your 10 year old self? Who cares if you have the thickest glasses in school, or if you're the lankiest kid in swimming. LOVE YOURSELF. And please be nicer to your sister, she'll end up being your best friend :)

20 Q&A's How did you first get into modeling? I first got into modeling when my mother mailed in my photos to a local modeling agency and they called me in for an interview and signed me on the spot, I was only 12 years old but was so excited. What was your favorite part about Resorts World Bimini in the Bahamas? The culture, I love visiting new places and experiencing the local spots and people. You recently got a new puppy with your boyfriend! Can you tell us a little bit about him? Yes my boyfriend and I actually have two pups now and we're completely obsessed with them. They're the pomsky breed. They look like little wolfs and are the sweetest! You also are the founder of the brand Girls on Swim. Can you tell us more about the brand itself and what makes it unique? I recently founded Girls on Swim with my partner Kaya, she's so talented and the sweetest so I'm lucky to have her as my partner. We both just love simplicity and sexy which I think our brand expresses. It's in the beginning stages but we're so excited to see Girls on Swim succeed. How did you come up with the name? My partner Kaya came up with the name actually, we both agreed we wanted to go for a retro/music theme so girls on swim was perfect because it's a play on the song girls on film by Duran Duran. Describe a typical day off for youhow do you like to spend your free time? I'm honestly so boring, I love spending weekends at home with our puppies and cooking. I just love being home!
Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tell us about? Yes I just recently did a Guess video shoot for their heritage collection. It was such a fun day shooting in Venice. What are three of your holy grail beauty products? Makeup, hair, etc? Sunscreen, I can't stress how important it is to keep your skin Healthy and protected. Leave in conditioner is my muy importante! Just a little concealer is my go to everyday makeup. How do you describe your everyday style? My everyday style is relaxed, simple but with a dash of sexy. Think Cindy Crawford-- Pepsi commercial. What are some of the type of things you do to stay fit and toned? I love spin! Also I'm really getting into boxing, it makes me feel so bad ass! What is your favorite indulgence? Frozen yogurt What is your current handbag? Black fringe Savin Laurent What are three of your must have items for a day at the beach? Sunscreen, water, and good music. What is your all-time favorite TV show? I just love anything on the discovery channel. Who would you love to see in concert that you haven’t seen live yet? Robert Plant, I'm a huge fan of classic rock. What’s something about you that most people don’t know? I'm left handed, and I'm a huge mutt of ethnicities What is your skincare regimen? I'm constantly searching for inspiration, running ideas through my head, answering emails and staying on top of my projects all while having a social life and staying sane! I love it all, I wouldn't trade it for anything. Where do you find inspiration for the content you put out? I'm very visually stimulated, so I love Instagram and Tumblr. I also love checking out new lookbooks from brands as well as following new photographers.
