Modeliste magazine’s mission since our premier has been to place fashion in a wider cultural context; ensuring that we are a powerful advocate of female independence as well as ensuring that the magazine continues showcases the world's creative visionaries and leading artists.

From the start, Modeliste was defined and inspired by what it believed in; honoring a platform of diversity which has always been apparent in our choice of fashion models, photographers, writers and artists. It is our ultimate goal to offer inspiration and empowerment along with the hope to shine a light into the future.

Our June Cover Star, opens up in a candid interview on the set of our shoot in Malibu and gives us the inside scoop on her last day of filming PLL, her upcoming movie roles and latest projects, her ultimate holy grail beauty must-have and what she loves to do when she’s not working. It’s no wonder why we all love Lucy.

W

hat originally inspired you to get into acting?

What originally inspired me to get into acting was probably just my love entertaining as a kid. I was never good at sports, I didn't really like school but I loved playing dress up and I loved singing and I loved pretending to be someone else. So, those were just my hobbies growing up naturally. Then, I think around 13, I was like, "Oh, this could actually be my career. I could do this for a living." Which was great because I never had a Plan B. I really have never thought about doing anything else before. Knock on wood.

I’m really glad it's working out. It just came naturally to me as a kid and luckily that worked out in my adult life as well.

What was your first ever role you were cast as?

My first job out in L.A. was a Bratz doll commercial. Super exciting stuff, I know. I was like a 15 year old playing with dolls hair, but that was my first paycheck so I was super excited. My first acting role was on Drake and Josh, which was a Nickelodeon show and I had one word on it. My first breakout role was when I was cast in the remake of Bionic Woman on NBC. That opened up a lot of doors.

In 2009, you got cast as Aria in Pretty Little Liars. What are some of your favorite memories looking back now at all the past seasons?

A lot of people know me as Aria Montgomery from Pretty Little Liars.

That whole experience was truly a dream come true because it's not often that a TV show stays on for that long.

That show became a phenomenon. I'm constantly shocked at the response that we still get when I travel internationally.

Just the success it's had everywhere has just been really awesome. It's weird for me because I live in my bubble and don't realize how big of a success it was and is.

I’m so grateful for that experience and what it taught me. I spent eight years honing my craft and getting to show up to work everyday to do what I love.

I'm in a really cool part of my career now where I can be pickier about the roles I take. It's just exciting to see what everyone from that show is doing now. It's bittersweet because we made a family, and eight years is a really long time, but we all still keep in touch and it's exciting to see everyone branching off and trying new things.

What was the last day of filming like?

Last day of filming Pretty Little Liars was actually the wedding scene between Ezra and Aria. So, it was cool to wrap up the show in that way but it was such an emotional day. I remember everyone from the crew to the producers to the cast, was just crying all day. The close up of me in my wedding dress was actually the last shot we ever did of Pretty Little Liars. It was pretty emotional. I'm so bad at goodbyes and ending things. I know I should've stuck around and hung out with everyone but I just couldn't take it so I just left and snuck my way out. I couldn't handle saying goodbye to everyone on that day. It's weird to think that it's been over for a year and a half now, which is crazy.

Do you still keep in touch with your co stars from PLL? I still keep in touch with the majority of the people involved with PLL, but we're all in different cities and doing different projects which is why technology is so great. We keep up with each other through social media and I just ran into Ian the other day. It's hard to get everyone in the same place at once, but hopefully we'll have a little reunion soon.

You're also now starring in the drama "Life Sentence" on the CW. Can you tell us a little bit about what the show is about and what is your character like on the show?

I currently am on a show on the CW called Life Sentence. That was my departure from Pretty Little Liars so I knew that I needed to be really picky about what I did next. It kind of fell in my lap a little bit but I heard the premise and I knew that I had to be the girl that played this character that this was something that I had to be a part of.

I play Stella Abbott who is a girl who is living with terminally ill cancer for the last eight years of her life. She made all these spontaneous decisions and was living like she was dying and was really content with the idea of dying. We find her in the pilot and right away we find out that she is cured and she gets a second chance at life. So, it starts out as one thing and then it becomes a show about a girl who never really knew the real world. Never really figured out who she was because she didn't have to ask herself those questions.

It's really about a girl finding her way and finding out what kind of person she wants to be. But not just for her, for her whole family because cancer really affect everyone around you.

They've been hiding secrets about themselves and her mom comes out about her sexuality and her parents get a divorce. She finds out her brother deals drugs and her sister hates her kids. For the first time, Stella sees the world for what it really is. It's such a fun show to be a part of and to be a part of a show with a lot of heart. I think we need a lot more shows like that. I love playing her, she's someone that I aspire to be more like.

What is the most challenging part of your character on the show?

I'd say the most challenging part of playing Stella is that I've never been in a position where I knew that death would be that close. We're never guaranteed anything, but I've never had cancer affect me personally, which is pretty rare because it's like one in every four people is affected by it. I was doing a lot of research about the treatments and getting in that mindset because I really had nothing to draw from in that sense.

Everything else came pretty naturally because I think we can all relate to not knowing who we are and who we want to be.

You also recently starred in the movie Truth or Dare which looks frightening! Describe a typical day on set.

I am also in a film that recently came out called, Truth or Dare. The whole concept of the movie is super outrageous but was so much fun to film. I'm a huge horror/thriller fan to begin with and to get to be a part of a film where we're doing things that would never happen in a million years was just a blast.

What was the most memorable dare someone ever asked you to do in a real life game of Truth or Dare?

My most memorable dare was from my brother-in-law a couple years back. He dared me to go skydiving with him and, at the time, it was really outrageous for me because I had a huge fear of planes and a huge fear of heights. It was everything that I would avoid at all costs. Me being as stubborn as I am, was like, "Yeah, I'll totally do this." So, I ended up doing it and I think it actually helped with my fear of heights a little bit. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. I'd highly recommend it.

Describe your everyday style.

Describing my everyday style is really hard. These questions are always difficult because I don't feel like I really fit into any category. I'm constantly changing it up. I'm definitely more about comfort, and I would say I'm kind of in a vintage phase right now. I love having a little 70s flare to everything.

It's typically a leather jacket, jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers. It can change depending on how I feel.

You also recently died your hair blonde! What inspired you to make the change and are you loving it?

As you can see, I am a blondie right now, which is very fun. Nothing really inspired it. It's more I just have hair ADD and always need to be changing it up. I've been a brunette for so long that I thought with summer coming up, it would just be fun to switch it up for a little bit. Who knows though, next week, I could be a different color. I don't know if blondes have more fun because I definitely, as a brunette, have a lot of fun but it's always good to spice it up a little bit.

What was your latest fashion splurge?

My latest fashion splurge was in Chicago and I walked by the Dior store and what caught my eye were these really amazing bag straps that have a Navajo feel. So I went in planning just to look. That's how it all starts out, but then I ended up getting this really amazing red Dior bag with this Navajo print strap that has all these beads on it. It was really cool.

Then, of course, they talked me into getting this really cool Dior sweater and t-shirt, but mainly the bag. The bags' pretty sweet.

What is your current holy grail beauty product?

Current holy grail beauty product is from this line called Biologique Récherche. I went to a spa in New York and they sell this line. My favorite is the P50 Toner. I swear by it. The only thing is it smells terrible. It has phenol in it so it just smells not great. You put it on before your lotion and apparently, if you use it for a year, your skin is just transformed.

If you could only wear one color for the next year, what would it be?

If I could wear only one color for the next year it would be black because that's pretty much my whole wardrobe anyway. I feel like it's just a good go-to and everyone looks good in black.

You also have the cutest Maltipoo name Elvis who has his own instagram @elvistheking. If you had to describe Elvis in 3 words, what would they be?

My little baby Elvis is my entire life.

I am the crazy dog lady. If I could describe him in three words it would be rambunctious, spoiled and a lover.

He's so sweet. I've never had a dog that will just let you hold him like a rag doll. He just loves to cuddle and has to be on my lap at all times. He's just the sweetest, greatest thing in the world.

What do you like to do on the days when you aren't working or filming?

It's always these questions that I realize that I'm like, "Mmm, I need hobbies."

But I love being outdoors. I live in L.A. so it's always gorgeous outside. I like hiking and I am one of those weirdos that enjoys working out. That's sort of like my therapy in a way. I like SoulCycle, and then I work with a trainer and go for runs.

Then, I like to do the opposite of that.

I binge watch anything and everything on TV. If I get a lot of time off, I fly home to Tennessee. I'm really close with my family so it’s fun to just hop on a flight home for the weekend. But other than that, I just catch up on normal people things like go to the grocery store. I love grocery shopping.

I have to go down every aisle.

Do you have any current music obsessions at the moment?

Kasey Musgraves new album Golden Hour is so good. It's like a songwriter's dream. She's this cool, old school country meets psychedelic retro feel and I think that everything she does is amazing so I'd highly recommend that album to anyone. Then, there’s also LAUV who’s an amazing songwriter too. That's more like a pop, soul kind of vibe. Those are my two faves right now.

Why do you love most about being a part of Modeliste Magazine?

What I love about Modeliste and obviously being a part of it is the amazing locations they choose to shoot at. I know that Shay got to shoot in some pretty incredible locations and any excuse for me to be at the beach is awesome. The fashion is also incredible. Modeliste has so much cutting edge stuff- beautiful shoots, beautiful clothes and I'm honored to be on the cover.

It was a pretty difficult shoot because it was done in only 23 days. We were trying to get so much content within those 23 days, so it was a lot of energy.

It was a lot of running around. A lot of getting only one take of something and hoping that it worked out. But, it was a really good cast. And my buddy, Tyler Posey was in it. It was good to get to hang out with him, scream and get to be surrounded by fake blood all day. It was a lot of fun.

Being an actress comes with some serious perks, like working with some of the Industry’s most talented and revered makeup artists. Los Angeles–based makeup artist, Allan Avendaño is the ultimate celebrity pro. He is the masterfully skilled hand behind some of our Cover Star, Lucy Hale’s most radiant red carpet looks including a recent set of gilded gold lids. Here, Allan reveals the tricks and must-have products behind Lucy’s ethereal Cover look.

STEP 1:

MAKEUP

by Celebrity Makeup Artist Allan Avendaño 1. We simply bronzed her face and body to create a sunkissed glow!

2. On the eyes I used the Becca Cosmetics Ombré Nude Eye Palette to give her a subtle soft brown Smokey eye.

3. To make her eyes pop, I have her top lashes 2 coats of Loreal Voluminous Mascara and one coat on the bottom.

4. For her face I used Vita Liberata new Body Blur in Latte to give her a more tan complexion.

5. To add more dimension to the face, I defined her cheekbones with Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow.

6. I lined Lucy’s Lips with Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude Lip Liner and then applied LORAC Velvet Matte Lipstick in Vibe.

STEP 2:

Celebrity hairstylist Bridget Brager shares with us how she created our Cover Star, Lucy Hale’s perfectly textured and tousled waves. We wanted a lived in look, so we decided on a “Bent Beach Texture” which is both cool and romantic but not to try hard.

1. To get the look I started by giving a light spray roots to ends with my favorite texture spray Sachajuan Ocean Mist.

2. I used my hands to rough dry the hair using my GHD blow dryer. Using your hands ensures your natural texture stays in and gives you the power to add the volume you want in all the right places simply by pulling up on the hair and directing your nozzle towards the roots.

3. When hair is 85% dry, smooth out the hair around the face with a Mason Pearson hairbrush.

4. Next grab your T3 Flat Iron, take small sections of hair and lightly bend the hair in a half circle up at the root- remove iron and place the flat iron just underneath that “wave” and create your next half circle just below bending down- continue through the lengths of hair.

This technique allows you to create, perfectly, imperfect bends- the kind you’d get from jumping in and out of the ocean.

5. Once your bends are set, use Herbal Essences Bio Renew Volumizing Dry Shampoo to add texture at the root and through the lengths of the hair.

6. Finishing by using Herbal Essences Bourbon Manuka Honey Oil Infused Hair Creme on the ends of the hair and to tap down any fly always around the face.

Bridget Brager is a Los Angelesbased hairstylist. After studying at the Gene Juarez Academy, she moved to New York City to pursue a professional career in fashion hairdressing. She forged ahead and built a career styling hair for New York Fashion Week shows, editorial shoots, highprofile red carpet events and advertising assignments. Bridget's editorial work has been featured in publications such as ELLE, Glamour, Vanity Fair, Instyle, GQ and Marie Claire.

While injectables are minimally invasive and a seemingly easy treatment to do, always keep in mind that these are prescription medications. Dr. Schweitzer explains that “Botulinum toxin injections and filler injections require a physician’s examination, prescription and a physician treatment plan, period” With many injectors available these days, from nurses, gynecologists, dentists, to even your dubious Botox party injector, always inquire about certifications and experience. Grey and Black Market Injectables Patients often are mislead with special pricing advertising that seems too good to pass up. The answer is: grey and black market products! “In the grey market you will find name brand versions of injectables which have been imported from out of the US and therefore not FDA approved.

The black market offers injectables which are compounded and sold by illegal pharmacies or companies which are illegal copies of the name brand products” says Dr. Schweitzer. If you are willing to cut corners, you are putting yourself at risk. Always go for a respectable medical office offering legitimate products. Unfortunately if the special is too good to be true, it probably is!

Be Prepared Cosmetic injections have become a very popular option for many patients since the treatment is performed during a quick appointment and results can be visible in a short amount of time.

Compared to surgery, there are more options available for products and techniques which gives the physician almost endless customization.

Dr. Schweitzer recommends to “organize and make a list of your top three cosmetic concerns to take with you to your consultation and don’t be afraid to take notes during the appointment. Be sure to bring with you a complete medical history which includes medications you may be taking, past surgeries, skin reactions, allergies, and family history of medical conditions. Don’t omit anything, even if it seems unimportant.”

How did you originally get into blogging?

When I was a teenager I would style outfits in my room and write down the ones I liked in a notebook. Later when I needed something to wear I could then reference my notebook for outfit ideas.

As fashion blogs began to gain popularity online, I essentially extended my outfit notebook into a blog and began sharing my looks online.

How would you describe your Instagram feed?

Light hearted, fun and relatable. It is ever evolving, just like myself.

How would you describe your personal fashion style?

Fairly minimal and sleek when I’m home in the city. Quite Bohemian when I’m traveling somewhere tropical.

What are three items that you can't leave the house without?

Cell phone, headphones, and my purse (which at any given time is a Mary Poppins bag of surprises) What's one fashion trend that you wish will last forever?

Sneakers.

A fashion trend that you wish will go away?

Bell sleeves.

What's the best piece of advice someone's ever given you?

Whatever you do, do it well - My father.

How did you originally get into blogging?

I had an epiphany one morning thought to myself; “I really love fashion, lifestyle, travel, why not blog about it?” It all started after that.

How would you describe your Instagram feed?

I would describe it as a public photo diary of my life! It’s purpose is to inspire single mothers alike to go after their dreams and aspirations!

My style depends on my mood. Most of the time I love to stay on top trends and other times old classics.

How did you originally get into blogging?

After traveling & graduating university with a bachelor in women’s studies i was very interested in getting into the fashion industry and blogging was the best way to get in on an entry level. I then got a job as a buyer for a concept store, secret location, in Vancouver, while still blogging, and once Instagram launched I then became a full time blogger.

I hope my feed makes people happy ~ my style is feminine mixed with bohemian and I love to travel so i hope that it is an inspiring place for everyone.

I became an Influencer through the modeling jobs I had all around the world. I grew a massive fan base over a short period of time.

How did you become an influencer?

I started my blog 8 years ago as hobby while I was in business school and used it as an escape from reality. There weren’t that many male bloggers at the time, and I think since I was in New York City and working in the industry, I had a head start. It was summer 2014 when I really committed to the blog and posted a daily outfit every single day, That’s where my following grew from 12K followers to 80K followers.

How would you describe your personal fashion style?

It’s a bit of classic meets street. I love loud prints and mixing patterns, but I also love a classic double breasted suit or a great biker leather jacket.

What is the best part about your job?

The clothing and traveling is amazing, but the fact that not every week is the same and it keeps me on my toes and excited!

GOOD Headphones like Marshall’s or Master Dynamics, Peanut M&Ms and a pack of gum.

I started posting my favourite outfits from casual to classy on my Instagram in the summer of 2015 which made my following explode and shoot up.

I had no idea about the "influencer" "blogger" world so I have learnt as I've gone along. I started my own blog in Feb 2016 and by summer 2016 I quit my job and went full time and have never looked back.

I would like to think I have a pretty versatile style being able to wear ripped jeans and leather jackets which is my favourite style but I also feel very comfortable in a suit. So versatile would be the word.

I'm a huge football (soccer) fan and love being in the gym so if I’m not creating content, I will be in the gym working on myself, playing soccer for my local team or watching soccer.

When I play soccer, I also get my cardio in, so it's a win win for me.

Wow tough question. The Mode Around The Globe trip to the Bahamas was the best trip I've ever been on- there are so many highlights!

I met some great people, but I think the day we got to swim with the sharks was pretty amazing for me. I will never forget that experience.

How did you become an influencer?

Funny story actually, I started this journey 5 years ago as a hobby. I was bored at home on a 4th of July and thought to myself, “You know what?

I’m going to create a fashion page.”

My first ever post was a picture of my 4th of July getup (so horrible, at that!) Then, I just kept posting a daily outfit picture. Through time, my page picked up traction. The turning point was when GQ listed me as one the 10 top male influencers in the West Coast. The rest is history!

How would you describe your personal fashion style?

I describe my style as classic modern, West Coast, laid back vibes with a 9 to 5 man mentality. A mix of smart casual outfits with a touch of class and sophistication that can easily go from day to night.

What is the best part about your job?

The best part of my job is the freedom to express my style freely and have it be embraced by others. It is so well received. I love putting outfits together and “playing dress up” on the daily.

The fact that I get to inspire others through clothing makes it so much more rewarding.

What is the next destination on your bucket list?

Tokyo, Japan! Hands down it looks like the coolest city ever!

Outside of blogging, what are some of your hobbies?

Working out, running, meeting up with close friends for coffee (or a drink) and reading.

I just binge watched Schitt’s Creek and The Crown. Both equally great shows, but completely different.

The people! It sounds cliche, but these trips have been so great because of the group of guys that comes together to make this all possible.

Nothing beats bringing a group of guys that can get along so easily and just make the most out of the trip.

Plus, it makes creating amazing content, producing great images and work that much more interesting. Fun fact, Blake Steven and I became best friends after our first Modeliste trip together (Thanks Modeliste!)

Laid-back, modern, classic What are 3 of your must have travel items when flying?

Chapstick, my headphones, a cool pair of sunglasses and swimming trunks. I cheated but just had to include these 4 items.
