W

hile the weather outside can be cold, rainy, and sometimes dreadful, our thoughts are far away from sunny days lounging by the pool in our bathing suits. Winter fashion brings us that perfect pair of boots, stylish pants, and cozy sweaters to look fashionably fabulous. This is the perfect time to work on those problem areas that you will be showing more of during the summer months. Nonsurgical body contouring and cellulite treatments are perfect during this time of the year as some procedures take a little bit of time to deliver the best outcome and may need a number of sessions. Getting ready for warmer weather starts now!

BE RESOLUTE TO LOSE INCHES AND KISS CELLULITE GOODBYE!

Most of us are busy with work and family while trying to balance a healthy lifestyle. As the New Year approaches, many of us are making our list of resolutions which for the most part will not survive pass the third week of January. It is possible to lose inches and diminish cellulite with nonsurgical and minimally invasive body contouring procedures! Currently, there are innovative treatments that focus on reducing the unsightly appearance of cellulite and target unwanted fat pockets. Both men and women have deposits of fat under the skin that are surrounded by fibrous tissue chambers. In women, these chambers are arranged in a different pattern and when engorged fat cells get confined in these compartments it pushes up creating the characteristic dimpling of the skin. Although there are many creams and treatments that promise to be effective in reducing cellulite there is little evidence to support their claim. Liposuction is not a good option for reducing cellulite, as it only targets deep fat pockets and may accentuate the appearance of cellulite.

THE VERJÚ LASER:

This state of the art green laser has been approved by the FDA to provide safe fat reduction and improve on the appearance of cellulite. The Verjú laser system is composed of six low level laser beams that sweep over the problem area with zero discomfort.

Patients lie comfortably for a total of 40 minutes to complete the laser treatment. If there is cellulite in the area of treatment, the area is massaged with a special percussion device for a few minutes to improve on cellulite. With this dream laser, there is absolutely no pain, no incisions, or any discomfort at all and patients can return to their regular activities immediately following treatment. Diet and exercise are always recommended for better health but it is not a requirement with the Verjú laser system.

How does it work? The Verjú laser produces temporary pores in fat cells located right under the skin while liquefying the lipid content and slowly allowing it to drain out. As the affected cells are drained of their fat they slowly begin to shrink and collapse giving you circumference reduction after a few sessions. This is not a temporary fat redistribution or a temporary loss of tissue fluids, it is scientifically proven fat reduction. You can reveal your true shape after a few weekly sessions! BODY FX:

Body FX is the latest non-invasive technology for improving the unsightly appearance of cellulite, reduce dimpled skin, improve loss of elasticity on areas such as abdomen, love handles, back, arms, and thighs. Additionally it is a wonderful alternative to liposuction as it contours and reshapes problem areas.

How does it work? Body FX utilizes radio-frequency energy, deep tissue heating, and suction coupled negative pressure to reduce the unsightly appearance of cellulite leading to improvements in your body contour.

BodyFX attacks fat cells, killing them through a process called apoptosis. Skin is also tightened by this procedure effective state of the art procedure. For ultimate results Dr. Schweitzer uses two radio-frequency devices to target cellulite, Body FX and Plus. These treatments are both noninvasive, safe, effective with no down time and can be performed individually or in combination. The Plus uses fractionated radio-frequency energy to stimulate collagen production leading to a smoother contour of the body and to further reduce the appearance of bumpy cellulite skin. These treatments can improve the appearance of both small and large areas of cellulite. Q&A What makes the line so unique? I feel that what makes the Red Carter collection unique is the amazing prints. We use many placement print patterns that are original designs and are placed on the suit to accentuate the body. Also, every suit is fit to perfection and covers a wide range of shapes for all body types. What was the inspiration behind the latest collection? This season I traveled to Palm Springs, California and was inspired by a trip to Joshua Tree national park. The desert has always been a place for me to step away from city life and to view the technicolor landscapes of nature. We used the American Indian patterns and motifs for many of the prints and the colors of the desert to inspire the collections direction. The silhouettes include one pieces and swimwear separates that can be mixed and match to make your own bikini, this season we have launched resort wear that incorporates fresh shapes with fabrics sourced from around the world to make the Red Carter brand more of a lifestyle.

Indian Summer Reversible Knot Side One Piece - Lagoon Apricot $160

How would you describe the Red Carter girl? I see my girl as a fashion nomad who is looking for sophisticated cuts and modern prints. She loves to travel and have new experiences, she lives a life of adventure and demands quality styling and fit. She enjoys fun times with friends and family and is always on the pulse of fashion trends. She loves art and culture and demands the most current fashion to attend special events ,whether a wedding in the south of France or a dinner beachside in Bali. she knows her way around Paris, and Hong Kong and is not afraid to go to tropical destination for a secret spiritual getaway. She is in touch with her feelings and is a leader more than a follower, she is kind to others but most of all to herself. She takes great care of her health and makes sure to take time away when she needs to revitalize her spirit. She works hard, plays smart and lives with her heart full of passion. 61

What trends are you seeing for swimwear in 2017? Next season for me is full of adventure. In terms of trends, we are seeing boho everything from tapestry patterns to florals. Colors are very deep and spicy, with cinnamon bright and saffron curry colors. The print trends continue to be tropical tapestry and ethnic inspired, full bursts of color and texture are important subtleties that tie everything together. Mixing patterns and textures are always a hit from the runways. What are your tips to finding the perfect fitting bikini? My first bit of advice, always have a martini before you try anything on. After that, choose a great swimwear shop that has a great selection. Find a sales associate who knows her way around a swimwear shop and ask for advice based on your body shape. Curves need love and attention so make sure that your coverage fits your needs, separates tops are a must for bigger busts and smaller buts. Don’t be afraid to try on some of the sexy one pieces in the market, they may surprise you how flattering a mesh cutout in the middle of a suit can be. And when ordering anything online. get a few sizes to try things on and make sure you feel your best.. and last but not least always buy a coverup to get you to the beach and from the bar. 5 Must-Haves for the season. Key high neck Sexy one piece Placement prints Solids with details Cover ups with style What can we look forward to next with the line? Next season I am taking two trips, one to Rio De Janeiro where I will be strolling the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema. So look for a south American influences and bright colors and graphic elements with flowing coverups and lots of shoulders. Then I will be in Cartagena, Columbia to be inspired by old town hand crafts and south American art and culture.

RISING STAR

DEWANDA WISE How did you get into acting? I started acting when I was 15 years old. I was taking Drama class, and like any great angsty 90’s movie, my theater director Nathan Rosen saw potential in me, and had me audition for “The Music Man,” as punishment for my chronic lateness. What can you tell us about your new role in She's Gotta Have It? Nola Darling is all of us. She’s talented, bold, sensitive, contradictory, inconsistent, beautiful, quirky—she’s absolutely everything, and I’m having the time of my life giving voice to hers. You also star in the show Shots Fired. What is the most challenging aspect of that role? The most challenging aspect of playing Shameeka was getting to the emotional center required to at least attempt to do her justice. It’s really not a space you want to live in. The truth of the matter is, however, there are those who live with that degree of grief every day of their lives. I just wanted to honor and represent to the best of my ability. Describe a typical day on set of Shots Fired. How do you and your costars like to relax in between takes? Many of my scenes were shot with my main mini-man, Kylen Davis who played my son, “Shawn Campbell.” In between takes, we took plenty of selfies, and stayed on Snapchat. His mother was always around as well, and I called her my “mom coach” when she answered any questions I had about parenting. Off-set, I grew pretty close to Aisha Hinds and Conor Leslie. We went to spin class, grabbed lunch, and even celebrated my birthday. Gina & Reggie assembled some great actors who are even greater human beings. 82

DeWanda Wise, best known for her role on Shots Fired, is set to play the iconic role of Nola Darling in Spike Lee’s much anticipated Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It. Talented, elegant and graceful, DeWanda has risen the ranks of stardom, while still maintaining her ultra down-to-Earth, minimalistic approach to life. We caught up with DeWanda to chat about her latest role, funniest red carpet moment, holy grail beauty products and which emojis would best describe the stunning actress, and this is what we learned. What has been your favorite role you've played so far? I don’t play favorites. ;) They’re all extraordinarily different from one another. Sorry, I know that’s totally a cop out, but it’s true! What is your funniest red carpet moment? Red Carpets are terrifying. I’m still getting used to them. I was supporting a friend’s project once, and a photog yelled, “What’s wrong?! Ya nervous???” It was the WORST. Describe your style Eclectic. Balanced. Edgy. I don’t think any of us are one thing, so I greatly appreciate juxtaposition when it comes to style. What are three things you always carry in your purse? I don’t carry a purse. What is your holy grail beauty product? A healthy diet. #SeeWhatIDidThere? There’s nothing you can put on your skin that beats what eating Omega-3 fatty acids & antioxidants can do for you. Do you have any person in particular that you look up to for fashion or beauty tips? Presently, I’m in love with everything Zendaya and her team are doing in regards to fashion. It’s always completely different. In terms of makeup, I feel like every time I want a particular look, Rihanna has done it. I don’t know if it’s because I’m constantly looking for makeup looks that compliment my eyes, but I find that I’m always showing makeup artists her photos.

Describe your personality using 3 emojis.

What do you like to do when you're not working? When I’m not working, I have epic hangouts with my fantastic friends, read a ton, and enjoy a life of bliss with my hubz, Alano. What kind of music do you like to listen to? All the music. The first CD I had my mom buy was Green Day’s “Dookie.” The last album I’ve been playing on loop is Bruno Mars. I’m a theatre kid, so I’m crazy about the Hamilton Mixtape as well. Where would you most like to travel to that you haven't been to and why? I’ve got to get to London because it’s Alano’s favorite place in the world. What is next for you? Any upcoming projects in the near future? We’ll see. I know a great deal of talented filmmakers, and have already started producing, so I feel fairly empowered to pick and choose what I want to do next. I’m still in the thick of being Nola, and will undoubtedly need a little break after working the bulk of 2016 to feel out what I’m inspired to do next. What season do you enjoy dressing for the most? Summer! I’m a total hippie. The fewer clothes, the better. What is your current go-to lip color? The Estee Edit Mattified Lipstick in “The Storm” shade…it’s a matte turquoise.

83

What is your ideal day off when you're not working? 7am: Wake up. Journal & Meditate 8am: Workout 10am: Breakfast 11am-6pm: Read, play, consume culture, catch up with friends, brunch or lunch, run errands with Alano. (See:Costco; see: Trader Joe’s.) Live a beautifully simple life. 6pm: Wind down and watch TV or see a movie. 8pm: Dinner 10pm: Great sex (Duh. You asked for it.) 11pm: Great sleep What do you love about Modeliste Magazine ? I love that Modeliste is diverse in a way that doesn’t feel contrived. There is always something in it for every woman, and flipping through feels like catching up with all the baddest women you know.

OUTRIGGER WAIKIKI BEACH RESORT Waikiki, HI outriggerwaikikihotel.com.com

Surf And The City: Waikiki’s urban oasis Been there. You finally got your squad to cross-reference their agendas (and the agendas of the nannies who can watch the kids) and landed on a date for your next epic girl’s trip. But, there’s a catch: half the crew wants to tear up the Big Apple and follow in the steps of Manolo-clad Carrie Bradshaw, while the other half wants stare up at palm trees from sun-drenched loungers parked next to turquoise waters. Fear not, hostesswith-the-mostest-friends-who-have-totallydifferent-visions of “paradise on Earth.” Honolulu’s Waikiki beachfront on the Hawaiian island Oʻahu offers up big city life --with all the amenities-- on one of the most remote and beautiful tropical islands on the planet.

LIKE A BOSS

Even if this is your first trip to Hawaii, booking an ocean-front room at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort in the heart of Waikiki earns you instant VIP status. You are guaranteed to be greeted by the gracious staff with a refreshing cold towel and locallyinspired drinks for your crew (we enjoyed a guava and brut Champagne cocktail at our check-in), and access to one of only seven hotel beachfronts in all of Waikiki. Plus, the views from your room of the legendary Diamond Head, with its lush green majestic features set against the expanse of crystal blue water and white sand, will make sure your social media feed is the envy of all left behind on the mainland. After you take in the stunning panoramic views from your unobstructed ocean-front patio, it’s time to head downstairs and directly into Duke’s - the hotel’s beach-facing restaurant named for and inspired by famed surfer and Aloha ambassador to the world Duke Kahanamoko.

PRO TIP: When you check-in, let

the accommodating Outrigger staff know your group is headed straight to the beach, and they may offer to call down and reserve you one of Waikiki’s famous open-ocean outrigger canoe rides right outside Duke’s. The canoe ride is a great way to experience the thrill of catching a wave (in the birthplace of surfing) without sacrificing your recent Dry Bar blowout!

If your first day on the island is too soon for such physical activities, the handsome and famous Waikiki beach boys (just like they had in Duke’s days) are on hand to assist in more passive activities like sun-bathing in the hotel’s beach cabanas inches away from pristine aqua waters where you can soak in the sun along with views of both the beach and the boys. 119

TWO FOR ONE: Sunset & City Views

While other island destinations call for flip-flops the moment you step foot off the plane, Honolulu’s Waikiki is a tropical town that encourages you to show off what you got (in the heels department). So, before the sun starts dipping too far behind the ocean horizon ( you can easily keep an eye on sunset status from your hotel patio), you’ll want to break out your best (and highest) Jimmy Choos and head over to SKY Waikiki (practically across the street from the Outrigger Resort) to catch a Hawaiian sunset 19 floors above the city. The aptly named SKY outdoor restaurant and bar is perfect for grabbing puu puus (the Hawaii version of tapas) and a few cocktails as you people watch and watch the sunset from the heavens. Then, after dark sets in, you and your crew are perfectly positioned to take in the incredible view of Honolulu’s skyscrapers at night (the city ranks 4th among U.S. cities with tallest buildings), which creates a dazzling city skyline to challenge even NYC. 120

LATE NIGHT FASHION FIX

Did someone mention the shopping? Why, yes, Waikiki has that covered, too. All of your favorite fashion names are neatly lined up one after another along Kalakaua Avenue (just steps from the Outrigger resort) -- also known as “Luxury Row.” From Tiffany’s to Tory Burch, from Chanel to Coach, almost every prestige designer has a presence in Waikiki waiting to fulfill your every retail whim. And unlike New York City and Beverly Hills whose storefronts are shuttered by 6pm -- Waikiki’s retail row keeps their doors open until 10pm --- often with a champagne reception. “Blue” Hawaii Hits The Right Note Another impressive feature from the perfectly situated Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort is the latest club from Blue Note - yes, THAT Blue Note of NYC jazz fame. The brand new venue opened in the hotel just under a year ago, hosts world-class musical performances as well as local favorites in an immaculate setting of perfected acoustics. Make sure to ask your Outrigger staff to book your seating in advance since tables are reservation only, and all of Honolulu - tourist or not - come out for concerts here in the intimate setting where every seat has a view.

CHINATOWN BRUNCH WITH A TWIST

Chinatown in many metropolitan cities - from New York City to Los Angeles - seems to harness that unique combo of amazing history and artistic edge, and Honolulu’s Chinatown (one of the oldest in United States) is no exception. The area right now is having a culinary moment and is a great place to check out what’s trending on the food front in this low-key, cool-kid part of town. One of Honolulu’s star chefs whose new place is buzzing is Brian Chan, who opened the brunch-only restaurant Scratch Kitchen & Bake Shop (locals call it the “Scratch & Bake”) just down the street from his parents’ popular Little Village Noodle Shop. Chan’s menu is described as “rustic and approachable,” but the cafe offers brunch classics but with a twist: French toast with mascarpone, rice crispies and vanilla infused maple, anyone? Chan’s Kim Chee Bloody Mary is also a stand-out star not to be missed during your trip.

YOGA LIKE A VOGUE-ER

No need to leave your yoga practice behind when you are on any Hawaii vacation. In Waikiki, you can book a private beachfront yoga session for your group with one of Outrigger’s on-call fitness experts, courtesy of Infinity Fitness & Massage. While the lounger-types in your group may prefer to take advantage of one of Infinity’s many custom in-room or in-spa massages (may I suggest the traditional Hawaiian lomi lomi style massage which uses warmed rocks), the more adventurous ones in the group can try out latest fitness trend that magazine editors can get enough of and that’s impossible to pull off back in the concrete jungle: yoga on a stand-up paddle board in the ocean. Infinity’s local-based expert instructors will lead you through your sun salutations while you are literally floating on water. (Just make sure one of your GFs is on hand to snap some Insta-worthy pics of you striking Warrior 3 with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop.)

WAIKIKI WRAP-UP

With one trip to Waikiki, you are ready to create an ultimate girl’s trip. Impressing both your city-dwelling fashionsita friends and bohemian mammas in one destination, with plenty left to explore and do the next time your crew returns.
