Cara Santana, is one of those girls that seemingly unknowingly, lights up the whole room. Her smile radiates her beauty and her playful energy is a magnet to all those around her. Cara’s incendiary talent has propelled her as an actress and to launching a new and very successful Beauty App. Cara took to the main stage for our February cover photoshoot showcasing her striking beauty, sexy versatility, and inspirational inner-glow. Modeliste caught up with the on-screen starlet, and here’s what she learned.

Q&A with CARA SANTANA How did you get into acting? Acting was always my escape. I loved to create and step outside of myself. Self-expression was so important for me and acting was the best way for that creative outlet. Whether I was making plays up in my bedroom, talking to my imaginary friends, or competing in national theater competitions and reenacting scenes from my favorite movies- for me, I just couldn’t get enough of it. I had an amazing childhood, but always felt an innate insecurity and this was the best was to step outside of myself and fearlessly become another character or person. Tell us about your latest role on Netflix’s Santa Clarita diet? This show is just the absolute funniest thing I have ever read or been a part of. I play a Latin gang banger, drug dealer from Santa Clarita, who’s deeply in love with her equally as dangerous boyfriend of 10 years and is pressuring him to get engaged. I worked with Timothy Olyphant who just made the whole experience a joy. He was such a giving actor and we had so much fun. It’s such an interesting character for me (very different from my personality) with a lot of similarities ( I was with my now fiancee for 10 years before he proposed ) so it was very cool to play this person who was so different from me, but living parallel circumstances to an extent. What is it like working alongside Drew Barrymore? Well, none of my scenes were with Drew. However, I can say she is just the loveliest woman. Professional and kind. She maybe one of the only women I have never heard a bad thing about. People love her. Every time I have been in her presence she has just been humble and warm. A true class act. What has been your funniest red carpet moment so far? Oh gosh, one of my first ever red carpets was at an event in the Bahamas many years ago. It was hosted by my friend Maria Menounos and my fiancé and I attended. I showed up on the carpet to be interviewed by Maria wearing the exact same outfit - a purple jumpsuit. Needless to it was funny and humiliating because no one can out do Maria. 22
Tell us about your beauty app? What makes it so unique in the beauty industry? Cara: The Glam App was my essentially my idea of “Uber” for beauty. It was an idea I had to bring luxury, affordable and convenient beauty experiences to all women. I really believe as women when we look good, we feel good. That sentiment of empowerment to all women no matter what their socioeconomics were, race, sexuality, religion, etc. was the catalyst for what guided the process. I reached out to my close friend and celebrity hair and make-up artist, Joey Maalouf, and told him my idea. I knew in order to really legitimize the idea we needed to make it equally advantageous to both the consumers and providers. Having a partner who really understood the plight of beauty professionals allowed us to create a really cohesive system that engages stylists and also serves clients. We are in 23 cities, including London. Nothing is over $100 and we have 1900 stylists on our team. I couldn’t be prouder of it.
What is your most used emoji? The heart. I am a huge lover. Anyone who knows me, can verify. I am a sap and the most sensitive person you’ll meet. Figures, I am an actor.
What intrigues you most about fashion and beauty? Transformation. I love the idea of change and expression. Being able to communicate who you are and what your feeling with the way you look is so empowering. Its also fun and makes for create creativity and evolution.
Tell us something about yourself that would most surprise your fans? Hmmm…I am super OCD. Like, it’s bad. Not clinical, but I think I’m on the cusp. I am incredibly type A. I literally delete every text message and email off my phone after I’ve responded and I can’t let one sit there for more than an hour. It eats me up inside. People look at my phone and are blown away.
What is your go-to brand and shade of lipstick? Hmmmm - I love a good nude. I have some drugstore brands that I love.
Go-to karaoke song. I don’t sing in public. I’ve been told it would be unkind to anyone in my vicinity.
Ultimate beauty hack? Well ... NEVER sleep with makeup on. No matter what. And sleep.
What is your most played song in your iTunes library? Eric Clapton’s Pretty Girl. It’s my song with Jesse. He proposed to me while it played.
Having worked alongside so many makeup artists on-set, what is one tip you have taken away and use in your own daily beauty routine? Less is more. It's about the application, not the amount you apply. How would you describe your personal style? Feminine with edge.
What do you like to do when you're not working? When am I not working? Hahah. Umm…I guess lay in bed with my dogs and my fiancé, whilst eating something delicious and watching some random documentary. Secret talent? NONE. I have zero secret talents. Where would you most like to travel to that you haven't been to and why? I’m dying to go to the Amalfi Coast. I have family there that I’ve never met. People rave about it. I hear the food is amazing and it's romantic. So all wins for me. What was the last movie you saw? Moonlight. It was very well done. So brave and unlike anything I’ve really ever scene. It touched on so many social and cultural issues that many people don’t want to touch. I really liked it. Phenomenal acting.
Favorite look from your Modeliste Cover photoshoot? I love them all. I love playing and dressing up. They were fantastic. I adored the stylist and the hair and makeup team. Perhaps the fresh inspired look with the ringlet hair and red lip. It was a lot of fun. What do you love about Modeliste? I love the idea of combining fashion and beauty with travel and creating a platform that girls and women can appreciate. Well done!

To create a cat eye I used a Mechanical Gel Eyeliner in Obsidian and dragged out the line with a pointed liner brush for a more precise pointed liner. $18
Finish off the eye by using a thickening mascara like Film Noir Full Spectrum. Really focus on the base of the lash by wiggling the brush at the root and then pulling up through the rest of the lash. $28

On the lips I filled in the lip with Femme Nude Lip Stylo in Nude Beige ($32) for definition then layered Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Reflect ($28).

I did a very light contour through the cheek with Ambient Lighting Bronzer ($50) then added some natural highlighting on the high planes of the face using Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder ($38) with a soft blending brush.

Tells us a little about your blog and social feeds. How would you describe your overall feed? My social feed is a perfect representation of my personality. Simple and bright! I love everything that has to do with fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and of course travel. Everything you will see of me on the internet encompasses that perfectly.
Most memorable career moment so far? Attending the AMA’s. It was one of those moments where I found myself thinking “Is this a dream?!” And traveling of course!
What makes your social channels unique? I’m a very energetic and dorky person. My parents always tell me I’m a 10 year old with an old persons soul. I think this comes across very obviously in my videos and I think that’s what makes me unique. I am a very hard worker, but also an extremely passionate person when it comes to my channel. I will never do anything just because it’s popular. I do what i love :)
What do you love most about your followers? What's a great fan moment that comes to mind? They’re my best friends. I feel like I can tell them anything and they’ll support me no matter what. I love them!! One time I had a fan run up to me in Rome, bawling her eyes out and hugging me like crazy. She then ran up to my dad and hugged him too and said he was awesome in my vlogs. That was amazing!
Where do you find your inspiration? I find my inspiration through people. Meeting people from around the world, hearing their stories, learning about their culture. I thrive off of it and always catch myself thinking of new video ideas on my plane rides home. Describe your personality in 3 words. Caring, passionate, and nerdy! What elements do you think create an engaging IG feed? My philosophy is to stay consistent, have a theme, and be interactive! Any favorites influencers or celebrities you personally love to follow? I looooove Negin Mirsalehi. She’s awesome. Her girl boss attitude, her fashion sense, her creativity. Perfection! How would you describe your personal style? Grey sweaters, grey sweaters, grey sweaters. Did I mention grey sweaters? It’s what I’m known for on social media. If I’m not caught in that, then probably workout gear. I’m a very casual person! But I do love to take out my bohemian side once in a while.

My overall feed is centered around health, wellness and being your most beautiful self from the Inside out. I am a full time model so I also love to throw in photos from shoots and my travels. What makes your social channels unique? I think my social channels are unique because with modeling, people have the perception that models don't eat, but I eat all of the time very healthily and love to post about it! There is no need for fad diets to achieve the "perfect body," but instead, I love to promote nourishing your body through food and fitness. Where do you find your inspiration? I'm consistently inspired by the people around me! My Boyfriend, friends and my agent all inspire me so much. Describe your personality in 3 words. Mellow, happy, and optimistic. What elements do you think create an engaging IG feed? 1. Consistent content, stick to what you know! 2. Not too many selfies. Mix it up, sometimes you need a good palm tree photo. 3. Show your real life! I try to share photos from every aspect of my life, whether I'm working out, trying a new restaurant, at a photoshoot or just hanging with friends. Most memorable career moment so far? Hmmmm probably booking the For Love and Lemons show at Miami Swim Week. They were a dream Company to work for and walking in Miami swim week was a goal for me, especially after being turned down by Miami Agencies. What do you love most about your followers? What's a great fan moment that comes to mind? Shannon: I just love the fact that I'm able to inspire girls to be healthy and find their beauty from the inside! I've had quite a few girl message me telling me that I've changed there life and inspired them to get active and eat healthy. So special. What item can’t you live without? My reusable water bottle! I drink 2-3 liters a day and I would go crazy without it.

Favorite meal. Current handbag? Shrimp Panang Curry. I could eat curry Shannon: It changes depending on where I am! Right now I'm in Hawaii so everyday. I'm using my vintage brown leather bag that has a braided strap, but last week when I was in Colorado I was carrying my black mini purse from Furla.
Favorite travel spot. Shannon: The north shore of Oahu, the food, the beaches and the small town feel. 3 Things on your Bucket List. 1. Live in Australia for a month or two. 2. Travel to Tahiti 3. Any upcoming projects we can be on the lookout for? Nothing set in stone right now, I just want to Travel a lot in 2017. What did you love most about the Modeliste trip to Vail? Making new Friends!
