Sexy, smart, creative, a fashion icon and a true inspiration as a career woman and mom, Kristin Cavallari has somehow perfected the ultimate balancing act. Mother of three, the wife of Chicago Bear’s Quarterback, Jay Cutler, a successful entrepreneur with both a jewelry and shoe line, Kristin is the girl that instantly lights up the room with her grace, poise, infectious giggle and, somehow, completely relaxed persona.

On a quick getaway, we brought Kristin to the vibrant paradise of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where, with her natural glow and sun-kissed radiance, she took to the main stage for our cover photoshoot. This is where we witnessed first-hand her secrets to ‘balancing in heels’...and this is what we found out.

Tell us about your latest book, Balancing in Heels. My book Balancing in Heels is about every area of my life, so there’s a lot of fashion, beauty tips and tricks, a mom chapter and a wife chapter. Those two chapters are kind of like a mini memoir. It’s like a trip down memory lane so it was a ton of fun to write. I also have about 20 recipes in the book, since I love to cook. What do you find to be the most challenging aspects of being a mom? I think the hardest part of being a working mom is that I miss my kids a lot. I live in Chicago, but my work is always in New York or LA, so I always have to travel for my job. That usually means I’m gone for a couple of days at a time, but FaceTime helps a lot. I think the other hard part of being a mom is that, when you finally have kids, you realize how selfish you are. I think we are naturally selfish beings. When you have kids, that can kind of be a shock at first. I think just trying to make time for yourself is very hard. Especially now that I have 3, finding that time can be very difficult. What’s the most rewarding part about having kids? The most rewarding part about having kids is there’s just so much more love in your life. I finally feel like I have a real identity. I feel like I have a purpose here in life now. I’m a mom to these three amazing little babies and my whole world just kind of opened up. How would you describe your personal style? My personal style is effortless, minimalistic and chic. 26

Include foods that are rich in essential fatty acids which are commonly found in salmon, flax seeds, walnuts, and olive oil. A healthy diet that includes three to five servings a week of these essential fatty acids will aid in reducing red, flaky, dry skin. Include some Chia in your diet. These wonderful seeds contain high levels of Omega-3 which your body needs but it does not produce. Omega-3's help keep skin hydrated. Chia seeds are hydrophilic, absorbing more than 10 times their weight in water.

Tell us about your blog and what makes it so unique and one of the hottest style blogs out there? My blog mywhiteT.com was born out of a desire to merge my worlds of fashion and music. As an artist first, fashion has always played an integral role in my artistry, however, my label at the time, Warner Bros Records, always wanted me to be something I was not… They were always trying to make me more eccentric, more of a Nikki Minaj or Lady Gaga, and that’s just not me. The label would criticize me for not having a “look” but I’m just more attracted to street style and everyday fashion. That’s part of the reason I decided to start the blog..a little bit to show and prove and just put into words what is style to me. I then started to get a lot of engagement from my readers on my hair, makeup, and beauty routines so I decided to start doing tutorials to answer some common questions I was receiving. What I really love about that aspect of the blog is that it’s become more of a forum where my readers and I can engage with each other and share little beauty tips and tricks we discover along the way.

The music section is also very important to me and constantly evolving. I started my just sharing a lot of my own music, original and covers, and music videos I was creating, but now also write reviews and report on other music and artists I feel passionate about. The blog evolves itself naturally, partially just as my own passions and goals develop, and partially by whatever my readers are craving at the moment. I always just try to keep the conversation open. You have some really amazing beauty tutorials on your blog. What are 3 of your holy grail beauty products? Thanks! You also are a very talented singer. Is music a direction that you see yourself moving more towards in the future? Thank you so much! Music and performing is my first passion in life and will always be my heart. That’s where I started…I’ve been in performing groups touring the world since I was 8, then signed to Jive Records as a teenager with my girl group No Secrets, then solo to Warner Bros Records right after that. The label system was tough for me and I felt like I never got to do what I really wanted to as an artist. My best friend and I started our production company together a few years back and I’ve been recording and releasing new music independently that I love and have toured with. It’s only in the last 8 months or so that I really took time off from music to further develop the blog, but yes, I’ll always continue making music and hope to be back out on stage performing again soon! Do you write all of your own songs? Where do you draw your inspiration from? I do co-write all of my own music. Inspiration comes from everywhere…life, relationships, desires. Stories you hear about other people’s lives. Sometimes I’ll just be sitting in a nail shop and overhear the girl next to me telling her nail artist about her life and get inspired. Great ideas can spark at any time.

Do you have any style icons or do you admire any one’s style that you tend to incorporate it into your own? I tend to really gravitate to and admire 70s glam! That was my mom’s era…she loved disco and raised me on Donna Summer’s music so I love everything gold, glam, feminine, and sexy! My style icons are Bianca Jagger and Brigitte Bardot who weren’t afraid of a little drama or making heads turn. How do you create your looks? Are there any key components to creating a complete look? Sometimes it’s difficult creating a complete look or knowing what will be great on yourself. So sometimes, while I’m putting an outfit together, I think of it on a different girl, one of my friends, and what I would tell her to add or change if she was trying it on for me and asking my opinion. I also think complete looks are all in the details, and that doesn’t have to mean a lot of accessories, but just one great one. I like conversation pieces like the Aquazzura Wild Thing sandals when they first came out, or the Celine Trapeze bag that had such a unique shape, unlike any bag we had ever seen before.

What is your most memorable blog outfit you have written about on your site? My favorite outfit I’ve featured on the blog was this long, dark purple, silk shirt dress from Missguided, partially because it was just so reminiscent of that whole 70s glam era I spoke about earlier, and partially because the photos just really turned out stunning. My photographer Gabriel and I shot it in a loft downtown, just at sunset, so the light was coming through the large industrial windows just right, creating all of these really dynamic shadows on the wall and the dress. People loved that look. What would you say is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging? The greatest challenge about fashion blogging is that the grind never ends. I literally work around the clock. Between my posting schedules across all social media platforms (IG, Twitter, FB, Snapchat, YouTube, Musically), writing and posting almost daily blog articles, attending social events, visiting showrooms, constant emails, creating treatments for new projects with brands, styling, location scouting, shooting, editing, it’s so many jobs in one. What is your favorite type of jewelry to wear? Rings! I’m obsessed with them. I live with a ring on almost every finger, never take them off, and each one has a special memory attached or a special meaning to me. I also really like mixing gold and rose gold and diamonds. Go-to piece of clothing. A great white tee. Hard to believe that with all of the gorgeous pieces I’ve collected over the years, that’s my go-to, but it’s true. I never feel better than when I’m in the perfect white tee and jeans. That’s why I named my blog what I did. What summer activities are you most looking forward to? Can’t wait to just lay on the sand at the beach for a day (with no shooting involved! Ha!) What fashion trends are you looking forward to in summer? Obsessed with bodysuits! A great bodysuit goes well with everything from cutoffs to a suit or maxi skirt! That’s what I’ll be living in all summer. What do you like to do in your spare time? When I have any, I love to go out dancing! I love salsa dancing and reggae music so there are a few little hole in the wall spots here in LA I frequent when I want to just have a drink and really enjoy myself. What is your most used emoji? What is your latest splurge? I just moved into a new apartment so I’ve been decorating. It’s really the first time I’ve splurged on furniture and household items rather than just inheriting whatever’s been given to me. I just bought this stunning Moroccan wedding blanket that I’m putting in my living room on the wall over my sofa...It’s gorgeous and makes me happy when I look at it. Where would you like to travel to most that you haven’t been to yet? I’ve been dreaming of Cuba ever since my dad took a work trip there when I was a little girl, and came back with all of these stories about the amazing music and salsa dancing in the streets! I just got word that I’ll be traveling there for work next month and couldn’t be more excited! Also dying to visit Tokyo! Just seems like such a different world and culture, and I hear nothing but amazing things about the people. 100

Guilty pleasure? S’mores Poptarts…pretty disgusting I know. What advice do you have for anyone who wants to get into fashion and lifestyle blogging? Don’t be intimidated by the competition. Everyone has something unique and different to offer and as long as you hold true to that, work hard, and stay consistent, you’ll find success. What did you love most about the Modeliste blogger trip? The girlfriend experience! So often on work trips, it’s hard to really enjoy yourself at all because you’re on such a tight schedule, constantly concerned about capturing your every moment and shooting everything. But I thought there was a really nice balance of all of that on this trip and we really got to enjoy ourselves and connect even closer as friends! From going out dancing til 4, to that amazing dinner we had on the sand the last night when we all happened to be dressed in white. I loved the entire experience.

What originally inspired you to get into fashion blogging? I’ve always had a fascination and draw to the fashion world and when I caught on to the world of blogging I was instantly intrigued. At the time I wasn’t around many people who shared my same interest so blogging seemed like the perfect avenue and way to join the conversation and be a part of a community of like-minded people. How would you describe your style? Jill: I am definitely a west coast girl through and through. Most of my outfits have an undone, ease about them. An arsenal of solid denim is a must-have for me. Most of my days are spent in denim cutoffs or cropped high waisted jeans. Also cannot forget tons of neck scarves and chokers. It’s difficult to convey much through a couple sentences on Instagram so I hope that through my blog people can really hear my voice. What are some of your favorite places to shop? Lastly would be that more is more- it’s the best time to fully go for it! Should you wear that 4th necklace?- YES. What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own? I have a gold and jade necklace my dad brought back for me from a trip to Asia. At the time I thought it was hideous but I am thankful my mom hung on to it for me because it is now one of my sacred treasures. Do you have any current sunglasses style obsessions? I currently am a big fan of small, round sunglasses. Also really digging crystal frames and green lenses. What are you most looking forward to in summer? How did you get the name for the blog? I’m a really indecisive person and I cannot hone in on something to save my life. Like, if I’m deciding on a name or what to wear, but I think I got the name way before I started the blog. It was five years ago, and at the time I was studying brand strategy and marketing and everything in my head was all about how to market a product properly and make a memorable name so that’s how it came about. I was in school on how to market yourself correctly so Miss Maven was memorable. Maven is a buzzword, and it definitely encompassed what I wanted to do. It was just one of those moments where I actually didn’t go through dozens and dozens of names. I just found it, and I was done. How would you describe your blog? My blog started out as strictly beauty but with the rise of social media and my presence on YouTube, I think that people really want to see more diverse content- like more of my life. At first, I really wanted to make it into an online magazine, very professional, but more and more I saw that people wanted to see my personal style and my personal taste, so it kind of transitioned into something a little more casual. For instance, when I hosted dinner for my friend and then showed how I did the tablescape, or what I wore to an event, my fitness routine and what I’m listening to at the gym. It’s more of a peek into my life now and not just strictly beauty.

Same thing, it started out as beauty only, which I think got me my following, but I think as people evolve they want to see change too because they’re growing up with you. Fashion, specifically was one thing I was particularly careful about, because I didn’t want to be that “beauty girl” who didn’t know anything about fashion. It’s such a specific thing, and there are so many people out there who are so good at it and committed to being a fashion expert, so I sort of just positioned myself as ‘This is my personal style, this isn’t the right way, this isn’t the wrong way, this is just what I’m wearing.” I think the response is getting more favorites than my beauty stuff. So, I like how much more diversified the content is now. Do you have a favorite tutorial? I think my Turks and Caicos travel diary is my favorite. I love doing travel diaries. They are so much more dynamic than just a typical to tutorial. It’s kind of like a motion picture where you really get to get creative with the editing and tell a story as opposed to here’s an instructional video from A-Z which can become a little stale, but the Turks and Caicos was definitely my favorite.

What is your most asked about beauty question? It’s brows 100%. Brows are one of the things I get asked about the most. Also hair- mine used to be Ombre so it was really dry and damaged but now it’s my natural color again and it’s getting to be shiny again. So people are asking about that and how I get that. What would you say makes your blogging style so unique? In the blogging world, it’s kind of easy to fall in line with what everyone is doing just because there is a style. I just try not to get sucked into that. I really try not to read other blogs or look at other accounts because I don’t want to ever think that subconsciously I am copying someone else’s style. So I just kind of let whatever inspiration I have dictate what content I put out there. Whether it looks like blogger content or not, I just go with it. Because otherwise you end up in a sea of the same. How do you get the inspiration for your posts? I just think about the questions people ask me and what I think is useful for people. Before, it was a lot of product reviews, but I didn’t really find that helpful for anyone so then it’s like “what is it that 107

Do you have any tips for capturing snap? Snapchat is interesting because I think that the funny moments of your day, that’s what people want to see. Like if something random happens, like my dog staring at the pool swan and barking at it because it’s moving, that’s like a moment. That’s just one of those things that you’re by yourself at your house and you wish you could laugh with someone about it, but you’re alone so you’re like “I’m just going to snap this.” It’s just those moments that people wouldn’t otherwise see. It’s your raw life. How would you describe your personal style? My personal style is quite simple. You won’t see me accessorizing a lot. If I’m going to make a statement, it’s still going to be with something understated- simple but bold.

What are the top 3 things on your bucket list? Teni: I would like to go to India. I had a friend go there and she said it’s like an life altering experience but you kind of have to be emotionally ready to go. I want to go and do some work there and not just vacation. I think it’s important to go to other parts of the world and see how people are living. But in general, I just want to travel more. I want to save all the dogs in the world. Using my influence to raise awareness about spaying and neutering. I want to go to Capitol Hill and change some laws that have to do with animals because they’re just not strict enough. I guess the last one is get married because that scares me a lot so that would be like getting over a fear and accomplishing something cool. What are your beauty product obsessions? I need a good eyebrow pencil. Sometimes I don't really put anything on my face and it will just be my eyebrows really polished up. The one that I’m using right now is by Hourglass, it’s called the Arch Brow sculpting pencil and I really like it. I just like a nice light-wear foundation but not foundation-more like a BB Cream. One that I like right now is the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint. It’s so good, very lightweight but it gives you a good amount of coverage. Also, there’s a lip oil by Hourglass that I wore this morning and it looks like a gloss but it’s a lip treatment. Also there’s a product my Jouer it’s called the Luminizing Highlighter. I like liquid highlighters more than powders because they blend in with your skin more and look more natural.

What was your latest beauty splurge? It was a highlight compact by Tom Ford. The color is called Moonlight. You swirl a darker color and lighter color and it’s like glowy veil over your skin. What’s one of your biggest beauty tips? I think cleansing is so important because we all want good skin and the first step is keeping it clean. I know a lot of people just use wipes to take off their makeup at the end of the night and they call it, but that’s not enough. So, I would say take a few extra minutes to take all that extra makeup off. There’s one product by Skinmedica that’s very good and gentle. I think it’s called the gentle cleanser. What are you looking forward to most in Summer? I’m looking forward to just being in a bathing suit and going to the beach. It’s so much more about layback style than the rest of the year. Do you have any funny beauty moments that you look back on and think what was I thinking? There was a period of time where I really laid on the blush and did full strip lashes and a full smoky eye, and it was just so much. Now I’m just so easy. What do you always carry in your handbag? I have a hand sanitizer in my bag. A lip balm, I love the one by Jack Black. It’s their lemon Shea Butter lip balm. And sunglasses. I really like Dida. I have so many of their sunglasses. What has been your favorite travel destination? Turks and Caicos. It was definitely experience there. The people were really nice, I learned a lot there. How do you keep in shape? I have a trainer that I see two or three times a week. She’s a power lifter, so I need her because I can’t weight lift by myself and you can really hurt yourself if you weight lift without a professional. It’s funny because I just did a hair tutorial the other day and people noticed my toned arms. I hate cardio but I love weight lifting.

What’s next for you? I think a little bit of a shift in content. I would really like to go into more narrative style work just more meaningful content that will be more motivating for people as opposed to just giving beauty tips and making people feel beautiful. Just give people the ammo to do what they love to do. What has been your favorite part of this trip in Puerto Vallarta? I love just how nice everybody is here. In the entire community I haven’t met one person who has been rude or mean. I think the culture here is very welcoming, just kind and laid back. No one is high strung and everyone’s just having a good time. If you could say anything to your fans what would you say? Thank you! It’s going to be a ride from here so stay 109 tuned.
