MODEL Q&A DIARIES with CATT SADLER What originally got you interested in pursuing Journalism? I grew up loving people’s stories and so I was intrinsically a curious person. I found myself in theater and what not but yet I love the art of storytelling and so by the time I got to college, I decided Journalism was the way to go. What’s do you like best about being a Journalist? My career has evolved so much, that my daily trade and contributions are that of a host on E. I love is that everyday is a new day. It’s really exciting and a real thrill to report on pop culture. My most rewarding moments are when I’m doing an interview with someone captivating and original. What is your favorite Red Carpet memory? There are two. One is 10 years ago when I started E! News. I was the very first person to open our show Live From the Red Carpet and I had just come from local television, so it was a milestone. So it was that moment when the director was counting down “We’re live in 5.4.3.2” that moment was really rad. Very surreal. And the other one is when I got to interview Oprah at the Governor’s Ball and again we are live and she had just won an Oscar and I got to interview her and I got to tell her that she really inspired me to be a broadcaster. 26
How would you describe your everyday style? I really got the fashion bug from E! News because you’re thrust into the limelight and your interviewing celebrities. I got to work with amazing stylists right away and I really got to learn about fashion and what works for me and my body type. I would describe my style as chic relaxed and a little edgy. And less is more. What is your favorite type of jewelry accessory? I like interesting pieces. So for example, my first big jewelry splurge was an Hermes cuff. It’s s so bold and so distinct and so beautiful. I’ll never forget I was at a party wearing it, and Kris Jenner said she loved my cuff and that Kanye had got if for Kim as a present. We wore some cool pieces in some of the shoots we did for Modeliste. In one of the shots, I’m wearing this gold choker and it looks like a caged piece and it’s just gorgeous.
You’re also a spokesperson of the company Murad. What are some of your favorite products? Rapid Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Serum. It’s a serum that you can put on twice a day and it reduces wrinkles and age spots. I use all of their cleansers. I rotate between all of them. You’re also a very active individual. What gets you motivated to stay fit? To be honest, I just feel better. I’m also really inspired by my job, to do what I do for a living. I just left a Physique 57 class. I’ve been alternating workouts- hot yoga and running and I just feel so great. I try to motivate people on snapchat and remind them that you will always feel better when you workout. I’ve never worked out and wished I hadn’t. What is your holy grail favorite beauty product? Tom Ford bronzers for contouring, Becca Foundation, and the Too Faced Chocolate eye shadow palette.
Where would you love to travel to that you haven’t been yet? I need to go to Asia. It’s a dream of mine to go to the Phillipines, Cambodia, Tokyo. I’m obsessed with Japanese food. I just need to get the time off. What is your biggest pet peeve? I can’t deal with negativity. Bad attitudes in general, I don’t have much of a tolerance for. What is your most used emoji? Probably the half smiling kissy face (with the heart)
What was your favorite part of the shoot? If I had to pick one, it would probably be the second setup that we had. The sun was setting, it was the first gown I had put on and it was a gold sequined robe-like situation so I felt like such a goddess in this gown. It was my favorite time of day and the music was playing and everything was gelling and it was like “wow-this is really my life”. Everyone on set was just phenomenal.

Truth Devour is an Australian born novelist who is best known for her book, Wantin, the first of her trilogy. With her passion for writing, she leads us on an inspirational journey of exciting twists and intrigues, esoteric experiences, honest portrayals, and epic worldly adventures. Modeliste caught up with Truth, and this is what we learned about this beautiful Australian writer whose books have brought her instant worldwide fame.
Q&A's
How did you come up with your Pen Name? The pen name Truth Devour was taken from my life philosophy. Having grown up in an environment where ‘white lies’ were deemed to be an acceptable social norm and indeed encouraged. In my personal circles, I am known for saying, “Devour thy own truth. Lie to all others if you feel you must but to thy own self be true.” 76
Where were you born? I was born in Melbourne, Australia. My parents are eastern European immigrants who entered the lucky country in 1970. I became the unplanned surprise that arrived later that same year. When did you start writing stories? How did your passion for writing begin? I wrote a series of short stories when I was in my mid teens. The stimulus to put pen to paper back then was largely driven by episodes of tragedy and my need to work through the process. In terms of my passion for writing, it’s always been there in the
form of poetry and writing lyrics. I was approximately eighteen years old when I completed my first novel. I have never really stopped writing since. Creative expression is very much an integral part of who I am. What has been the greatest influences on your writings? Life experience is definitely a key influence. I love to travel and have always enjoyed my somewhat unique perspective on the world around me. It’s the delta between my interpretation of a situation which provides a point of interest and depth to my writing.
When you sit down to write, do you have a certain method? Favorite place to write? How do you let your ideas flow onto paper? Setting out to write a new piece is always an exciting journey. It usually starts with me telling myself a story. I have an inner monologue occurring. There are random visuals of scenes that appear in the forefront of my mind as I hear my own voice narrate. I relax and listen. Usually, a couple of weeks into this process I feel compelled to begin to write. Once I start, I don’t stop until the first draft is done. The words fall out of me as I listen to my voice tell me what is happening. I personally find I get better results and a more satisfactory experience if I remove myself from the comfort of familiar surroundings. I tend to travel to different places when I write. I do this so my senses are hyper stimulated by a new environment, the culture, and cuisine.

The three books Wantin, Unrequited and Sated are a chronicle written in the first person of a young girl named Talia Jacobs, who from the age of six embarks on a life that positions her to either crumble under the weight of the burdens that are placed or to utilize her experiences as a crux to define who she is and how she fits into the world. The readers walk along side Talia, facing the challenges with her across her lifetime. It covers aspects of the fantastical in the sense of incorporating cultural based esoteric experiences such as voodoo
Best advice you’ve ever received? There was a widower of ethnic origin in her mid seventies that lived in the same street as me, in a tough neighborhood. The local kids threw bricks at her house, yelled abuse, they were modeling off their ill mannered parent’s choice to ostracize her for being different. I was around ten years old when we first became friends. Across the years, I would visit her house at least once a week. She would teach me how
to grow vegetables by the cycle of the moon and hold me enchanted with her endless stories about the secret life of trees. I recall asking her one day why she chose to trust me given everyone else had been so cruel. Her response: Never let other people’s behavior define who you are. Greatest success or achievement thus far? I truly believe the best is yet to come, so ask me this question again in two years. If you could meet one other author in the present time or throughout history, who would that be? I’d meet him presently, Or go back in history, I’d walk forward, sideways, backwards, Hands up, Hands down, In a circle, I’d go around, Climb up a rope, Or swing from a noose, Which author would it be? I’d say Dr Seuss. What’s next for you? Honestly, I feel blessed with all the wonderful opportunities presenting themselves at the moment. The script for Wantin, the first book in the Enigma trilogy, is in the process of being finalized. There are big things coming for this series, watch this space. I've just completed Insurrection which is part of the Soliloquy’s Labyrinth five series. I aim to have it ready for release within a month. Why do you love reading Modeliste Magazine? My ultimate weakness is the travel section which I won’t deny is almost always the part of the magazine I go to first. I’ve amassed quite a list of places I want to visit or re-visit thanks to Modeliste. I’m a real fan of the couture section as well. The layout and coverage of events are always on point.
