In fashion as in life, November marks the changing of the seasons and the time when everyone begins planning for Thanksgiving and the upcoming Holiday frenzy. With the onset of crisp weather, cozy layering, fading tan lines and the excitement of the pending Holiday season, it often is a time when you begin dreaming of your next escape. In this issue of Modeliste, we embarked on a journey to one of Mexico's most sensational destinations, Puerto Vallarta. We hope you will be as inspired as we were with its dreamy landscapes, tranquil, turquoise waters, vibrant nightlife and warm Mexican charm. Alongside Visit Puerto Vallarta and the Villa Premiere Hotel & Spa, we were graciously welcomed to this eclectic city for our Cover shoot with singer, songwriter and actress, Zendaya. Just days after her 19th birthday, Zendaya showed a genuine love for her fans, her commitment to philanthropy, the strong bonds and valued friendships she shares with her family, and with legs that go on for miles - there is no doubt that Zendaya is destined for stardom. Modeliste, having set the stage for artistic visionaries, industry leaders, and fashion and beauty enthusiasts has quickly become a world renowned voice that blends subtle sophistication, grace with a streak of subversion. AS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF MODELISTE MAGAZINE, I feel compelled to write not only our loyal readers, but also Zendaya's beautiful fans. Our November issue, now in it's second release has been marked with controversy over a situation in which images taken for our sensational photoshoot in the paradise of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico had been edited beyond what we believed to be acceptable by any means and as a result pulled the entire issue from press. As the controversy has been well documented through nearly every media outlet on a vast global scale, upon review of the final edited images, Zendaya and I felt that the images did not capture the integrity, truth and authenticity of the photoshoot as it was intended as well as the values and ideals in which we both represent. I, therefore, made the executive decision to immediately pull the issue in order to have this rectified and have the images restored to their original, natural state revealing the true beauty and radiance of Zendaya in all of its unedited form. As the Editor-in-Chief, I take full responsibility for the oversight of not comparing side-by-sides of the before and after the re-touching, as it is often something which is taken for granted in the industry. We trust that editing will be done minimally in a manner which does not distort the image or the model, but is used to enhance lighting, perhaps edit out an unwanted blemish, or fabric wrinkles on a garment. However, it is my ultimate duty and role to ensure that absolutely every image and every word within the publication stands to reflect who we are as a publication, what values we uphold and what message we stand to deliver. For this, I fell short and I sincerely apologize. However, having immediately taken the entire issue down and pulling it from press, not per Zendaya's request, but by way of my own directive and initiative, this situation it has brought even more insight and light onto an even greater issue of the sensationalism of today's media and the power of social media. Headlines stating a complete fabrication of the events which took place to an absolutely unconscionable slur of messages on social media filled with such hatred, false accusations and the utmost of negativity. It was quite honestly, for lack of a better word, shocking. It has astounded me that people are capable of lashing out so quickly, so personally and so unapologetically. It has somehow become a sense of entitlement and an acceptable means of communication to voice whatever negative thought or comment enters one's mind with a blatant willingness and goal of wanting to inflict harm on someone- and quite viciously so. This sort of destructive, demeaning and hurtful behavior happens every day. We recently saw Supermodel, Gigi Hadid make a public statement directed at people who hide behind their social media user names and believe that it is somehow ok to want to bring others down, post negative comments and opinions usually in regards to situations that "99% of the time they have no idea what they're talking about." as she stated in her post. I equally acknowledge that we need to bring awareness to this issue as well. We are all humans, we all make mistakes, however I firmly believe that we all deserve the opportunity to recognize our errors, to be reflective, provided with the ability to rectify our wrongs in order to change the outcome of any situation. We collectively need to choose to inspire one another, to accept each other's and our own "flaws" our "fabulousness", and strive to uplift not only one another, but also ourselves. This is what truly defines who we are and the legacy we choose to leave.

We believe her to be an authentic and positive representative and an inspiration to women and of the values which we, at Modeliste, possess. We are proud that she has also taken this as an opportunity to address this situation, and create a very necessary honest and open dialogue as Modeliste is a very strong advocate for positive body image, self love and the empowerment of women. We are all beautiful and unique in our own way, and it is through these differences that we celebrate our individuality. It is our hope that you will be inspired by the Unedited Edit. Zendaya, at just the age of 19, and having grown up Disney and now in the spotlight with her second season of KC Undercover and a new album on the forefront, has captured the attention of the fashion world, music industry, and hearts of her fans worldwide. As beautiful and genuine in person, she has become not only an icon in style as we saw her sweep through Paris Fashion Week, but has remained true to herself, unaffected by fame and devoted to keeping it real; a true Modeliste Girl. Modeliste had the distinct pleasure of having Zendaya grace our cover in a sensational shoot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico where Zendaya showed her unequivocal devotion to her fans with endless selfie shares on Twitter, her personal commitment to supporting philanthropic causes, and the fun side of fashion. How would you describe your fashion style? I think the beautiful thing is it can't be defined lol. Style icon.There are so many people I look up to it's usually people who set their own style and don't listen to what others say and just do it with such grace and confidence such as Erykah Badu and Solange. What is something people don't know about you? People don't know that I'm really just kind of boring and a bit of a nerd. I don't do going out and all that stuff...I'm good with my bed. If you could have coffee with one historical figure, who would it be? Nelson Mandela. What book are you reading now? Long Walk to Freedom. Most played song on your iTunes. Liquor by Chris Brown. Barbie has just released a new doll modeled after you. Is this somewhat of a childhood dream and is there a message behind it? Why was this important to you? Actually, it wasn't a childhood thing for me because I never was able to connect with Barbie. So when they approached me about this opportunity I wanted to find out what plans they had for diversity. And when I went to visit their offices I found out that they are really making some great changes and I wanted to be a part of it. I want my little nieces to have Barbies that look like them. What's your favorite fashion trend of all time? I don't believe in trends, what's good today isn't good tomorrow and what was great yesterday isn't today...so just make up your own trends. Favorite lip shade. I have every color there is and it really depends on what I'm wearing but I love a good nude. Favorite designer to wear. The one that makes clothes...LMAO. What place that you haven't traveled to yet would you want to visit in your lifetime and why? My grandfather who passed away many years ago told me about Florence Italy and it was his favorite place to go. So it's one of the places that I must visit in my lifetime. What is your ultimate fashion must-have this season? No such thing people...wear what you want! Signature scent. I go through phases where I wear all one fragrance and then I change to another so a few years ago as crazy as it sounds Justin Bieber's perfume was amazing. Then I went through a phase where I wore only Tom Ford. So it just depends on what phase I'm in! Current handbag. Handbags are phases for me too just like perfume. Right now it's Vivienne Westwood- LOL. Your house is on fire and you can only grab one makeup item. What is it? Aquaphor is a life saver. What is your holy grail style tip? Be in love with yourself first. Ultimate beauty boost? A great moisturizer. We read that you are the new face of CHI hair! What is your favorite look for a night out? I like to wear my hair natural and so that's one reason why I really like their products. What would you consider to be your "life's theme song"? Anything Michael Jackson. How do you stay fit? Health tips? Honestly, I'm lucky that I still have a teenage metabolism. I know that will change and I will have to become more fit and work out but for now I'm taking advantage of it! What was your favorite garment from the photo shoot? There were so many beautiful pieces I really love the red lace cover-up which was a dress but we used it as a cover-up...gotta keep it classy.

Tell us about your time on location for the Photoshoot in Puerto Vallarta. Favorite spots? Mustsee's? Souvenirs? Funniest moment on set? I had a wonderful time! My little cousin was able to come with me so one of my favorite moments was when we turned the camera on her. She's very shy and had to be convinced but once we got the camera going she really loved it and the photographer took amazing pictures of her. we had a great time going to the flea market area and buying gifts for friends and family back home. I also had a great time meeting my fans who were waiting for me every day without fail in front of the hotel. They were so sweet brought me flowers and candy and signs I felt very loved. Oh and the food was bomb! While in Puerto Vallarta you visited a non-profit orchestra program that helped underprivileged children learn music, an instrument and social and leadership skills- what was that like? Why was it important to you to go there? How has the philanthropy you've done changed you as a person? The arts and school have been important to me for the longest time especially because I went to an arts school in Oakland. I know that young people like myself need something positive to consume their free time with. So it was wonderful to see the program and hear the music. The children were so talented and I admire the people who are running this program. I try to do as much as I can towards philanthropic programs. My ultimate goal is just to be a philanthropist when I am older and done with what I want to accomplish. I believe in giving back. How do you connect with your fans on social media? My fans know me on social media because I sit on my phone and read through their feeds. I am addicted to scrolling through my screen and I see what people write and what they say and so I feel connected to them and I will randomly reply or retweet so they know that I am reading and I care about them. If you could say something right now to your fans, what would it be? I would just tell them how much I appreciate their support. They are so insightful and they are honestly so motivating and they crack me up on a daily basis. Do you have a nickname? I have so many nicknames LOL from Zenzen to Zendoozy to Daya. What's next for you? Upcoming projects? i'm finishing up my music which will be my second album I am co producing on my Disney show which we just started the second season and it's going amazingly well and working on my shoe line and developing that season after season is going to be an ongoing project. Best advice you've ever received. A quote that was told to me, “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to no one. " Shakespeare. Why you love Modeliste. He decided to research LED light therapy machines to purchase. There weren’t very many available on the internet at that time and he ended up paying nearly $5,000 for a professional machine. It was large and bulky but within a few days of treatment, the pain in his knees was gone. He was going up and down stairs better than he had before the injury ever happened. He was fascinated by the technology. He learned about NASA’s use of the technology on astronauts and plants in space and educated myself about its amazing health benefits, including regeneration of cells and use in the treatment of wrinkles. His entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and he began looking for a company that manufactured red light therapy tools where I could invest. He took it a step further and bought a company. ne of the most celebrated and successful brands in Australia and a favorite among A-list celebrities, Oscar & Frank, which characterized a collaboration between “Two Dogs”, has created a modern interpretation of the hippest styles and are ruling the asphalt of the down under continent and have proven themselves to be the hottest dogs in the sunglass industry. Modeliste had the distinct pleasure of catching up with this dynamic duo, and here’s what we learned: What inspired the creation of the line? OSCAR: Being dogs, we are less than six inches from the street most times sometimes we even eat off it. Anyway, our street level perspective, mixed with our laid back Australian beach lifestyle was the real inspiration. PEPPER: Yes, that, and making hot b*#$! even hotter. What makes your sunglasses unique in the industry? PEPPER: I guess being two German dogs that are also celebrities, and also entrepreneurs, and also savvy fashionistas who started an eyewear company is fairly unique. OSCAR: And we can't even speak English, type on a keyboard, drive a car or ride a bike. That’s also pretty unique when looked at collectively. How would you describe your latest collection? PEPPER: Woof! Woof! OSCAR: Inspired but refined use of colour and shapes that turn dogs into hot dawgs. 72

What do you see as the top 2015 sunglasses trends? PEPPER: The biggest trend I see, which is really gaining momentum - I’d even call it a mega-trend, is what I call ‘German Doggie Style’. Look it up. OSCAR: Pause there Pepper. Don’t look that up on google, you’ll get the wrong thing. PEPPER: Anyway, we’ve got 2015 trends locked down already, but for 16/17 we’re looking at copper and steel colours, high quality Italian acetates and ultra limited run products…for that personal touch! Why do you think sunglasses are one of the most defining and playful fashion pieces for women? PEPPER: Being a female dog, I’ll answer this one first. Like sexy underpants, sunglasses are easy to take off and put on so you can have several for different moods and colour schemes. But unlike underpants in most cases, they’re the first thing people look at. They make you feel a certain way when you wear them; like a hot bitch if they’re any good. And also people can't tell how big your night was, which is handy. If I had fingers I would also be able to twirl my glasses suggestively while talking to another attractive human. OSCAR: PS: Audrey Hepburn. #Style What inspires you in creating some of the season's hottest and most trendsetting styles? PEPPER: The romantic musical fantasy film called Xanadu starring Olivia Newton John and her hair which should have got its own Oscar. OSCAR: We’re continually inspired by High Fashion like Xanadu, but the big

ongoing inspiration is helping other dawgs in need which is what we do with each pair sold we feed an undernourished dog for a week as part of our hook ups with Bali Dogs Foundation. Who wouldn’t stay inspired with that as the objective? PEPPER: For final inspiration I’d like to add Mountain Lumberjacks who have thrown in the towel, because they reject the hugely negative ecological impact of chopping down magnificent old trees, but despite this they still work out every day in the woods, running up and down hills with their shirts off, carrying heavy, laughing children, who they care for deeply. Are there any rules to fashion you live by? OSCAR: Never talk to someone you really like after eating five day old chicken you found in the bin. It’s not fashionable any more. PEPPER: I couldn’t agree more. Also, the jury is out on mixing patterns and weaves. And vertical stripes widen everything. The ultimate sunglasses must-have for the Holiday season. PEPPER: Yeah, laps it up. We’ve only had our first eyewear range available for a few months - but even before that time, we still had a massive social media audience who love us. It’s hard not to. Bragging rights: Greatest success or achievement with the brand? PEPPER: I think being two celebrity Sausage dogs from Australia who started a successful eyewear company is a pretty massive success. OSCAR: Yes, considering all the restrictions that could have got in the way of our success. Dogs are still discriminated against in a lot of places. There are still restaurants that don’t create dog friendly dishes. Celebrity fans of the line? OSCAR: Well I would not be being honest with you if I said there was one celebrity who loved our eyewear more than another. PEPPER: The toughest challenge we have is making sure celebrities who

wear our product, don’t get jealous of other celebrities who also wear them. This happens when one celebrity is photographed wearing our newest range and other other hasn’t bothered to answer the phone when we call and tell them the new range is ready to wear. It can get awkward at times. They’re really just looking for love. Like all of us. Style Icon? PEPPER: Anyone who stares down a shark like professional Australian surfer Mick Fanning and punches it instead of getting eaten shows classic, timeless style in my opinion. OSCAR: Derek Zoolander. MODELISTE: WHAT MAKES SICKY EYEWEAR SO ABSOLUTELY COOL AND UNIQUE? John: We pride ourselves on the quality of our eyewear as well as being a brand that is very lifestyle driven. We are unique in our shapes, colors, and patterns; we like to be bold and push the envelope with our style while always remaining tasteful. WHAT INFLUENCED YOU TO START SICKY'S WORLD? John: I couldn’t seem to find a brand that my friends and I could really identify with and I’ve always been heavily involved in art, fashion, music and all things creative. Having my own company had always been a goal of mine and Sicky’s World is essentially my lifestyle that I turned into a brand, eyewear being the first of my ventures. HOW HAVE YOU EVOLVED AND GROWN OVER TIME AS A BRAND? John: Quality and innovation is a major priority. We truly have achieved the highest quality of product that we’ve ever created with our new collection launching in March. This craft is complex, and through our creative journey as a growing label we’ve always stayed true to our mission to deliver more than just a product, we want to deliver an experience. Modeliste: Where do you draw your inspiration from in designing new styles? John: Everything and everywhere. My inspiration comes from so many different aspects of my life whether it be photography, my friends or Malibu itself. WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE FOR THE DESIGNERS BEHIND SICKY EYEWEAR? John: I am Sicky’s head designer and a typical day for me normally starts out with creating a new idea for a style of frame. I make blueprints, and then from there I start choosing colors of the acetate. Then, with my team, we go through hundreds of different colors and patterns to pinpoint exactly which color looks best with which frame. Then comes the task of picking the right lens and lens color, and I chose whether they’re polarized, mirrored, both or neither. WE BELIEVE A PERSON’S CHOICE OF SUNGLASSES SAYS A LOT ABOUT THEIR PERSONALITY – DO YOU AGREE? WHAT KIND OF VIBE DOES WEARING A PAIR OF SICKY'S HAVE? John: YES!! Freedom of expression and being a true individual. DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE RIGHT PAIR OF SHADES CAN COMPLETELY CHANGE AN OUTFIT? John: Yes, 100%. Your face is the first thing a person notices when they see you or meet you, and your choice of eyewear is the wearer’s ultimate style statement.

WHAT ARE THE HOTTEST SUNGLASSES TRENDS THIS SEASON? John: We don’t necessarily follow trends, the Sicky team and I go off of what we are most inspired by and our personal tastes and ideas. CELEBRITY SIGHTINGS & SICKY FANS. John: We work with a lot of celebs, artists and bloggers. Cody Simpson, Cisco Adler, Gigi Hadid, Skylar Grey, Rachel Bilson, Jennifer Lopez, Leann Rimes, to name a few. WHO WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE GREAT EYEWEAR ICONS? John: I’d have to say Bob Dylan, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy. I absolutely love that time period, style was so prominent and “classic” taste and fashion was really created during that time. WHICH PAIR IS YOUR FAVORITE, AND WHY? John: That is a very hard question because I truly love each and every frame. My favorite varies depending on my mood or what event I happen to be attending. I like to think of an eyewear collection in the same way a sneaker head thinks of their sneaker collection. A pair for every mood and some you only bring out on the most special of occasions. TOP SELLERS John: Our top sellers depend on a few variables. What part of the world it is, the current time of the year, when we launch new product, or when celebrities wear a particular style. Recently our top sellers would be the S6, the S10, and the S14. ADVICE ON HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT PAIR OF SICKY'S? John: A lot of it depends on the occasion you plan on wearing your eyewear. If you want to be especially technical, different frame shapes compliment different face shapes. Oversized frames really compliment oval faces and cat eye frames look best on heart shaped faces. Regardless of the technicalities, a perfect pair of SICKY’s is entirely up to the wearer in question. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING IN THE FASHION AND APPAREL INDUSTRY? John: The freedom of being creative and pushing boundaries with style. The industry is constantly changing and evolving, and I love how fast paced it can be and I always have to stay on my toes. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR SICKY'S WORLD? NEW LAUNCHES? John: The future is bright, better grab a pair of SICKY’s. We’re the first brand to get to market with a matte reflective lens. This particular idea was a venture into the more high fashion and editorial world and something we came across that is just truly ahead of the curve. We think it will be a trend very soon. THE INSPIRATION BEHIND ELAN’S LATEST COLLECTION. We were very inspired by the 70s bohemian wildflower that was seen on most runways this year. 2015’S TOP FASHION TRENDS. We will definitely be seeing more body conscious styles with cut outs and pieces that show more skin but still contain that feminine and bohemian vibe. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE FOR 2016 TRENDS? I would love to see fashion for woman become less racy and provocative and more classy and feminine. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS ONE OF THE MOST DEFINING AND PLAYFUL FASHION PIECES FOR WOMEN? The way a woman styles her outfits is the most defining way of her sense of fashion. The addition of jewelry, hats, scarves and shoes is the best way for a women to put her creative talents to work. I get a lot of my inspirations from my three teenage daughters who each have their unique style and love fashion. I get my inspirations from everything I see on a daily basis. I look at the latest runways, countless fashion magazines and get most of ideas and inspirations through my travels in some of my favorite places like New York, London, Paris, Israel. RULES OF FASHION. There are no rules to fashion that I live by, especially today. Fashion has no rules. It allows a woman to be creative and unique in effect, creating their own style. BEING SOCIAL. We post pictures that depict the lifestyle of our brand: beachy, love for fashion, worldly, free-spirited, fun. We also always want it to have a personal element to it, sharing pictures of our travels, inspiration and some behind the scene pics of photo shoots. BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED? Live with passion and do everything with love. ELAN’S GREATEST SUCCESS. We have evolved from a beach,resort line to selling a full Fall line with beautiful fun and unique sweaters that also have a bohemian flair. ULTIMATE STYLE ICON. Nicole Richie, she would definitely be the celebrity I could see loving our line and styling it in her own unique way to make our items look great. DESCRIBE THE OVERALL CONCEPT OF THE LINE. Chaser is an ever evolving contemporary brand. Inspired by vintage, we create unique garments with modern styling, bohemian details, fresh silhouettes, luxurious fabrics and the softest hand feel imaginable. Style reigns supreme, while comfort remains key. The Chaser assortment is always expanding, Fashion basics, Graphic tees, Silk, Dresses, Sweaters, Jackets, and more. WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE IN THE INDUSTRY? Anyone can have a good idea, and there are a lot of very cute clothes out there, and while I focus primarily on style, I am highly concentrated on fit. Once you wear a Chaser garment you will become a convert. You should look like you are dressed to kill, but you should feel like you are taking it easy. WHAT INSPIRED YOUR LATEST COLLECTION? Vintage is always my inspiration, that as well as travel, music and art. Once I let myself ease into the these influences the season comes together with flow and synchronicity. WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE TOP 2015 HOLIDAY FASHION/ ACCESSORY TRENDS? I love beanies. A cool beanie adds instant edge to your look. Scarves are also key, if you have the right beanie and right scarf, a white tee shirt, some black jeans and perfect boots, there is no stopping you. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS ONE OF THE MOST DEFINING AND PLAYFUL FASHION PIECES FOR WOMEN? Defining and Playful? Interesting question, I think the simple answer is a mini dress. It is sexy yet youthful, and therefore playful, as it can be flirtatious. Nothing is more defining for a woman than a dress, and a mini dress takes that concept to the next level. We have a stunning sequin mini dress with a diamond cut out back for Holiday. A NYE must have! WHAT INSPIRES YOU IN CREATING SOME OF THE SEASON'S HOTTEST AND MOST TREND-SETTING STYLES? As I mentioned before, travel. I always need to think beyond where I am now, I have to imagine what I want to wear aprés-ski on the alps, or what do I want to throw on before cocktail hour in Fiji. It really requires an imagination, but once in the mindset, it all flows. ARE THERE ANY RULES TO FASHION YOU LIVE BY? I do not adhere to rules. I follow my instincts, and trust them. If I want to wear it, and it feels great, I know other people will feel the same way. HOW DO YOU USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO BUILD YOUR BRAND? We have Instagram and we like to share our imagery, inspiration and sense of humor with our followers. We feel lucky to have this community to show our perspective to the world. BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED? "The cream always rises to the top." If you are creating something you know is great, it may take time, but it will succeed. GREATEST SUCCESS OR ACHIEVEMENT WITH THE BRAND? We have accomplished a lot of great milestones, but I think the biggest yet has just come to fruition. We are very proud to be opening the first brick and mortar Chaser store in Los Angeles. Very very exciting. STYLE ICON? Loulou de la Falaise. Unrivaled style, daring and unique. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? I was raised on the beach in southern California, so I always lean toward the casual end of cool with touches of edge and touches of bohemian. That said, I don't cling to a style identity, I flow with what feels right and my taste evolves, this is why I love fashion, it is always changing. 3 MUST-HAVES THIS SEASON. ⊲ Vintage Ski Jacket, Sequin Mini Dress, and Kimono Sweater, worn separately, of course. ⊲ Life's Theme Song at the moment? ⊲ White Light White Heat by the Velvet Underground. Maia restaurant is slightly off the beaten track, however still centrally located in the old town. From the outside the restaurant looks rather low key but once you step inside you can't ignore the beautiful traditional art pieces, colors and wall painting which create a the most unique and eclectic chic mexicano vibe. The head chef Hugo is as genuine, passionate and excited about sharing his artistically crafted exotic creations. Hugo has an amazing understanding of foods, flavors and how to masterfully make them all work together and is a truly genuine professional living his dream through his passion of food and entertaining. The menu changes daily depending on which fresh produce he can select at the morning farmers markets. Maia’s dishes are a tantalising combustion of flavor and freshness. Hugo cuisine is truly innovative and inspiring - there is no wonder that he is an award winner including previously being awarded the number 1 Chef in Mexico.This dining experience is highly recommended as one of the most unexpected, delectable, mouthwatering and inspiring dining experiences in Puerto Vallarta.

I

Morelos is a fantastic option to visit for cocktails and entertainment. The decor and design of this venue has left no detail unfinished. Brick warehouse style with ornate chandeliers and funky artworks.

La Bodeguita del Medio You don't need to be a professional salsa dancer to have a great time here. This has a great Cuban atmosphere with a fun band and attentive staff. The electric and fiesta style vibe in here will make you want to dance the night away.

La Santa There is an array of clubs to choose from in Puerto Vallarta, however La Santa is one of the hottest in town. This establishment is grand in size and style. From the red carpet entry, most elaborate chandeliers, astonishing lighting and beautifully glamorous crowd this venue is no one of the hippest and trendiest clubs in the area. During the Spring and Summer months La Santa even throws fabulous pool parties for its local and international party crowds. MODE WITH MEANING Orquesta Escuela de Puerto Vallarta

Modeliste magazine, with our partnership with Visit Puerto Vallarta and Villa Premiere Hotel & Spa, had the distinct privilege to visit The School Orchestra of Puerto Vallarta (OEPV) during our November 2015 Cover photoshoot with actress and singer Zendaya. The orchestra, with all of its components radiated pure energy, a warmth of community, pride from its members and a truly majestic and melodic sound. The School Orchestra of Puerto Vallarta is an inclusive community project that aims to develop leaders who are sensitive, engaged, and conscious of their surroundings and their community through their participation in the orchestra. This ultimately provides the local youth with a sense of belonging, a culture of collaboration, and social responsibility. Over the past 4 years, The School Orchestra of Puerto Vallarta has consolidated their status as a serious institution with a long-term vision of solid, consistent and effective work. They are the only institution in Puerto Vallarta with a level of musical excellence and rigor that ensures all members have the chance for further studies, by way of applying for conservatories, music schools, or orchestras outside of Puerto Vallarta. All of the members benefit from scholarships that range from 10% to 100%. Candidates are evaluated based on their performance as part of the group, their dedication, their level of advancement, their school performance and attendance, and the financial situation of their family. The School Orchestra of Puerto Vallarta currently has six ensembles: Youth Orchestra, Strings Camerata, Symphonic Band, Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, and Saxophone Quartet.

Sustainability Given the social nature of the project, The School Orchestra of Puerto Vallarta cannot aim to be sustainable through student tuitions. Currently around 80% of the costs of the project, including payroll, administration, and rent, is financed by its founding sponsor Buenaventura Hotels. This project has given its first steps thanks to them. We invite you to learn more about this effort, its scope and its vision, and to consider being part of an ongoing project that has made important achievements over a very short time of operation. TinyDancer TIPPI TOES Modeliste is gripped with ballet fever this month. From ballet inspired buns, Kim Kardashian’s daughter North West’s BABY BALLET ATTIRE, all of the latest ballet infused fitness classes, and of course after the New York City Ballet Fall Gala 2015, we have all been channelling our inner—and outer—Ballerina. Dance is about freedom, art, creative movement and expression at its best. We asked Laura Buchanan, a dancer herself and creator of of Tippi Toes of Huntington Beach, why ballet is not only a beautiful activity and exercise for children but also evokes selfesteem and empowerment in kids of all ages.


MODELISTE: HOW DID YOU BEGIN YOUR PRACTICE OF BALLET? LAURA: I started my practice of dance at 4 years old. I remember it like yesterday, it was a large room of hardwood floors, I loved the soft scuff of my ballet slippers on the floor and clinking of my tap shoes. I fell in love with dance at this time and continued on through childhood and adolescence. At 8 years old I took dance to the gymnastic floor to dance competitively on an acrobatics gymnastics team. Dance continued to be in my life, even if just in my living room, until I came across Tippi Toes while watching Shark Tank, I was instantly in love and knew that my dream had always been to work with young dancers and help them to find the same love and passion for dance as I had found at a young age. For the past 4 years I have been a Tippi Toes franchise owner in Huntington Beach California; sharing my experience with our dancers and my two young daughters. MODELISTE: DESCRIBE THE TIPPI TOES EXPERIENCE. LAURA: We strive to make the Tippi Toes experience every young dancer's dream! From magic wands, tiaras and glitter to exciting music and the sweetest most gentle instructors. Our dancers truly feel like ballerinas, they feel special and beautiful in our class. The Tippi Toes experience is about more than just dance; it is about new friends, building confidence, and celebrating each dancer’s uniqueness and strengths. MODELISTE: WHAT MAKES TIPPI TOES UNIQUE. LAURA: At Tippi Toes we focus on young dancers and believe our most important job with these little ones is building their confidence and love of dance! Our instructors use creativity and fun to help even the shyest child break out of their shell and feel comfortable performing in a class full of peers. Our classes use age appropriate music that the kid’s just love; including music from our own Tippi Toes CD’s created to help children in learning Ballet, Tap & Jazz terminology and technique.


MODELISTE: HOW DO YOU SEE BALLET AND OTHER SPORTS TO BE A POSITIVE INFLUENCE AND BENEFIT IN CHILDREN'S LIVES? LAURA: Children benefit in many ways from ballet and other sports. Physical activity is essential to children in building a strong and healthy body and mind. Being in organized sports teaches children accountability, teamwork and gives them a sense of belonging. These are all things that I believe build self-confidence as well as respect and love for ourselves and others. MODELISTE: WHAT ARE YOUR OWN PERSONAL FAVORITE STEPS/MOVES? LAURA: Soutenu turn!! MODELISTE: WHAT DO YOU HAVE UP AND COMING FOR TIPPI TOES? LAURA: Tippi Toes Huntington Beach is growing by leaps in bounds and new classes are opening every month. I am currently working on moving into a little older age group. This year you will see more classes popping up for ages 6 – 9 years. We are also adding more performance opportunities with each passing year. MODELISTE: WHY DO YOU LOVE BALLET AND WHY DO YOU LOVE TEACH BALLET? LAURA: I love ballet for so many reasons; I love that ballet makes me feel strong and graceful at the same time. Seeing students experience this same feeling is priceless. There is no feeling like knowing we’ve made a difference in a child’s life and can be a bright spot in their week. I love hearing that a student takes what we teach them home and makes the whole family dance along with them, and looks forward to their Tippi Toes all week.
