Who and what inspires you? Why? The women in my life, I am very fortunate to have some incredible, kind, loving, smart and supportive women in my world. They inspire me, they challenge me and I am so grateful to have them in my life!
I’m from a very small town in upstate New York, Clinton. These days New York City is home, How did you begin your career as a model? I began my modeling career by attending a scouting competition!! I wouldn’t typically recommend this route, but for me, it changed my life! What was your first job? My first job was with Rainbow Shops. It was the perfect first experience, everyone was so sweet and helped me get the hang of things very quickly. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in the course of your career? Advocate for yourself. You might hope that other people will do it for you, but at the end of the day it’s so important to speak up for yourself, especially about your own goals and dreams and most importantly if ever you feel uncomfortable with something—let that be known! What has been your most memorable highlight of your career so far and why? Most memorable highlight has absolutely been working with Sports Illustrated Swim. The shoots I’ve done with them have been beyond exciting and fun. I’ve had the chance to shoot in some beautiful locations and be more creative and collaborative with amazing people in front of and behind the camera. How do you hope to influence people through your career and social media platform? I could write a book about this one. Since we’re talking about fashion, I want to continue the message I’ve been speaking about for years. That is, women of all sizes deserve a place on catwalks, in fashion magazines, and most importantly in the clothes of these influential brands. They are paying more attention, but we still don’t have the equality in the fashion industry I would like to see. I’m also very passionate

about matters of social injustice, specifically women’s rights and racial equality. I hope to shed light on these issues while also letting my free spirit shine through my platform, at the very least I hope to inspire people to explore more and be a little more open minded in their day to day lives. What advice do you have for young girls looking to be a part of the modeling industry? It’s important to know why you want to be modeling. The industry has changed so much in the years that I have been a model. It’s not just about being a pretty face anymore. As models we now have an opportunity to use our platforms to inspire and influence others and I think it’s important to realize that power and take it seriously. What are 3 things on your holiday wish list? I want more exciting adventures and experiences, I have enough stuff these days and really want to focus on trying new things and seeing new places. A holiday movie you’ll be watching on repeat? Elf…Elf…Elf…ELF!!! Cracks me up every time! Favorite fashion trend of all time. Sneakers. I. Love. Sneakers. Are you working on any new projects you can share? I’m working on a few things but until they’re completely, officially out in the world, I keep my lips sealed! What’s at the top of your bucket list for 2022? Seeing the Northern lights in Iceland, hopefully I can check that one off pretty early on in the new year. What would you like to say to your fans? I am so grateful for each and every one of you, your messages and support are my motivation in pushing myself to new limits. Let’s keep inspiring each other. Why are you excited to be on Modeliste's cover? I have so much respect for women and Modeliste is a platform that highlights women in all their greatness.

The trickiest part about staying warm in the winter is not finding enough clothes, but how to stay warm without becoming the new Michelin tire man. Fortunately, layering sweater on sweater or jacket on jacket isn’t the only way to retain maximum body heat without sacrificing your silhouette. Start with a great base layer. Just like makeup, it goes: primer, foundation, then personal style. Speaking of makeup, layers don’t have to just be clothing - they can be topical too.
Tip No 1 The layer no one talks about: Moisturizer Maybe its beauty more than fashion, but it keeps your skin soft, and the oil/cream is an extra, ultra-lightweight layer in between you and the fabric. It’s like those aveeno mittens, or sleeping with cream and socks to soften your feet. Just think, if you apply it all winter you can come out of hibernation rejuvenated and glowing!

I’m not a scarf person myself and find that anything but a silk scarf gets in my way, so turtlenecks are the compromise between staying warm and having something around my neck. But unlike sneakers, there are many more style variations, ranging from combat to couture, and all saying something different about the wearer. Since the rise of Doc Martens from 1901 to 1945 and the invention of the cushioned sole to becoming a British punk staple in the 1980’s, combat boots have had a long-standing history that have dipped their steel-reinforced toes into many areas of culture and fashion. It’s been a hot minute since we’ve been locked in our apartments; sunny days have since come and gone, taking warm weather light layers with it. Cue fall, jackets, layering, etcetera. Cue denim. Cue a lot of denim layers. Like any suit, the canadian tuxedo isn’t just oversized layers of denim, one on top of the other; you can achieve different silhouettes, different colors/washes, and utilize different textures and details to switch up your look every time. Not Canadian? No problem. Neither was Bing Crosby when he made the fashion statement into a staple after he was refused entry into a hotel in Vancouver for wearing a denim trinity instead of a classic three piece suit. Since then, musicians, celebrities, and supermodels alike have made the red-carpet case for denim with Bob Marley, Britney Spears, and the Hadid sisters. NATIONAL THEATER In 1883, when the municipality authorities, headed by the famous mayor Giovanni Ciotta, grandson of the even more renowned Ljudevit Adamic´, decided to have a new imposing theatre building constructed, they must have been aware that this action was going to have effect upon the centuries to come. The spacious Ürmeny square was chosen as the venue, while the project was ordered in Vienna, in the architectural studio that specializes in theatres, from the architects Herman Gottlieb Helmer and Ferdinand Fellner. All the main Croatian theatres were built in the second half of the 19th century, the one in Rijeka being the second, after the Osijek one (1865) and before those in Split (1893) and Zagreb (1895). After long lasting preparations and two years of construction and impatient expectations, it was on the third of October in 1885 that the new Municipality Theatre (Teatro Comunale) was opened. 182 DECEMBER 2021 | MODELISTE
Two great operas had been carefully prepared for that festive occasion, namely, Verdi’s Aida and Ponchielli’s La Gioconda. The first visitors and numerous guests could take pleasure in walking around the imposing theatre building, a masterpiece of architecture of that time, presenting itself in all of its beauty, with impressive statues and ornaments made by the famous Venetian sculptor August Benvenuti and the ceiling painted by the painter Franz Matsch, together with his even more famous brothers Gustav and Ernest Klimt. The two operas were conducted by Gaetano Cimini, while the stars of the evening were popular and much favoured singers, Medea Borelli, Clotilde Sartori and Mary Guttemberg. Everyone could also witness real technological wonders of their time, namely, the first electrical bulb and the first telephone in the town.
Rijeka’s audience had always loved theatre and waited impatiently for new guest performances of their favourite opera and comedy companies from Milan, Venice and other theatre centres. Since its earliest days, Rijeka’s Thalia was visited by numerous famous theatre personalities, such as the young but already famous composers Giacomo Puccini and Pietro Mascagni, the latter having conducted his opera Il piccolo Marat, then also the great actress Irma Gramatice, born in Rijeka. The greatest tenor of his time, Enrico Caruso, had a guest appearance in the Rijeka theatre in 1898, while the famous Beniamino Gigli sang in Aida in 1941. Numerous acting stars performed in the theatre, such as Ernest Rossi, Ermeteo Novelli and Ermeteo Zacconi, but the best to be remembered among all was the great tragic actress Sarah Bernhardt, who played with her company in Dumas’ La Dame aux Camélias in 1899. The poet and artist Gabriele D’Annunzio paid a visit to the theatre in 1907.
The Rijeka theatre changed its name several times during its rich history. Having been called Municipality Theatre (Teatro Comunale), in 1913 it was renamed to Teatro Verdi, after the greatest Italian opera composer, a logical choice as since its very beginnings it had primarily been an opera house and rightly so according to the preferences shown by its audience. However, due to historical and political circumstances, neither Croatian language nor Croatian artists had access to the theatre until the end of 1945, when, similarly to other permanent national theatrical institutions in the country and abroad, the National Theatre in Rijeka was founded, with the Croatian company as well as the Italian one, also the opera and ballet company.
Soon the first opera sung in Croatian followed, that is, Nikola Šubic´ Zrinjski by Ivan Zajc, directed by Boris Papandopulo. Then it was the turn of the play in Italian, ll Burbero benefico by Carlo Goldoni. In 1953, the theatre got a new name after another composer, this time the greatest Croatian composer and citizen of Rijeka, Ivan Zajc, who already in 1857 conducted Verdi’s Nabucco in this theatre, as well as many other Verdi’s operas later on.
Soon afterwards, the first management was appointed. Another historic date for the theatre followed when on the 20th October in 1946 it was the first time that a play in Croatian language was staged, namely, Dubravka by Ivan Gundulic´, directed by Dr Marko Fotez, with Marija Crnobori in the role of Dubravka.
