The Love issue.

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we dedicate this issue to shining a light on how we, as women, are reclaiming and collectively reflecting and prioritizing how to be gentler to ourselves, practice self-love, self-care and body positivity. Through our own acts of self-kindness – which ultimately transcends to universal kindness – we are cultivating a more peaceful, more equal, more sustainable world and will hopefully find ourselves living a more beautiful one because of it. We are all the heroines of our own stories.

Our incredible cover star Gisele Oliveira’s journey from Brazil to becoming an internationally acclaimed model is the very embodiment of pursuing your dreams and paving your own path. She shares with us that the best compliment she has ever received was “that I have a beautiful heart. That to me counts more than any other compliment!”

Self-love and the love which we allow ourselves to unabashedly honor within ourselves is our common thread- ts beauty, its optimism, its power, its resilience.

Where were you born and where do you currently live?

I am from Espírito Santo, Brazil and I currently live in Los Angeles.

How did you begin your modeling career?

I started my modeling career modeling for an uncle that designs bridal dresses. One year later when I turned 18, I signed with an agency in my hometown and one year later I moved to Miami to start my international career.

What’s your favorite time of day?

My favorite time of the day is sunset. My hometown is known to have one of the most beautiful sunsets in Brazil so I started being obsessed with them when I was little. It is the one moment of the day I always look forward to!

What’s your biggest strength? My biggest strength is that no matter how hard things are, I never give up on chasing my dreams and goals.

When are you the most inspired?

I’m the most inspired when I’m surrounded by different cultures. That was my favorite part when I lived in NYC.

What’s the biggest learning experience you’ve had?

My biggest learning experience is that good communication is the key to anything you need in life.

What are you most excited about for 2023?

What I’m most excited about in 2023 is that I will be turning 30 this year!

What are your top 3 New Year's resolutions?

My top 3 new year resolutions are to spend less, take care of my health more and don’t forget to follow my dreams everyday.

What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?

The best compliment I’ve ever received was that I have a beautiful heart. That to me counts more than any other compliment!

Sweet or savory? Savory.

What’s one thing people don’t know about you?

The one thing that people don’t know about me is that I’m actually very shy and it took me many years to leave that aside. Modeling has helped me to overcome that.

Heels or flats or sneakers?

I love heels! But since I’ve moved to LA I’ve become a true sneakerhead.

What are the three things you can’t live without?

I can’t live without my dog, my big water bottle and lip balm!

What’s your current favorite piece of clothing that you own?

My favorite piece of clothing that I own at the moment is definitely a vintage Tierry Mugler jacket that I bought online!

What’s a must-have clothing item everyone should own?

A must have item everyone should own is an oversized blazer!

My must-have beauty product is Skin Food by Weleda!

Skincare routine?

I don’t follow any specific routines, I usually just try to keep my skin clean, moisturized and I drink lots of water!

What’s heavily played on your music playlist right now?

I usually listen to 90’s or Y2k songs!

What book did you most recently finish? I usually listen to podcasts instead of reading books. The last one I listened to that was amazing was about non violent communication and it was great!

How do you start your day?

I start my day cuddling with my dog and ordering my daily matcha.

Any upcoming projects you can tell us about?

I’m working on a collaboration with a clothing brand that is going to come out soon!

What would you like to say to your fans? I would like to say don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t follow your dreams.

Why are you most excited to be our next Cover Star?

I’m so excited because this photo shoot is very different from everything I’ve done in my whole career and the first one of 2023!

Where is your favorite place you have ever traveled to?

I haven't visited all the places on my wish list yet, but I have fallen in love with the architecture and beauty of Europe. London in the summer is especially beautiful and I was fortunate to visit many locations there. I have made some great friendships and feel I resonate well there.

City getaway or tropical beach getaway? Both! Love the pace and energy of a city but also love the quiet serene feel of a beachy getaway.

Do you have any exciting upcoming projects that you can share with our readers?

I do have a few things I'm currently working on. I can never make up my mind on a singular thing to do so I do them all. But one thing I'll share is that I’m currently working on my acting career. I recently did a bit of studying at LAMDA and studied Meisner as well. I’m super thrilled to get back to something I've always wanted to do since I was a child.

What was the highlight of your time in Tulum with Modeliste? Any fun stories you would like to share?

The cenotes were absolutely stunning! The water had cute little fish that were strangely calm when near you. The resort we stayed at was very relaxing. Waking up to the sound of ocean waves and palm trees swaying is always a peaceful experience. Also the girls were all so kind and lovely to be around.

How do you balance your work life and your personal life?

I’m a planner and I think it’s important to have balance. I give 100% of my attention to the tasks I have and the same goes for my time at home. Being present with family and friends helps me to recharge so I can give my all during my work tasks without burning out. I want to give everything I love my focus and attention.

Any current trends you will NEVER partake in? If so, which trends?

No, I don’t think I’d ever limit what I would and wouldn’t try.

What is your favorite makeup trend right now?

A dewy skin/foundation is always beautiful. I prefer the light makeup looks on myself personally but on others I’d say I like seeing when people do time period makeup. It’s always so cool to see a modern twist on past trends.

Have you always wanted to be in this industry? If not, what did you think you would be doing instead?

I always wanted to model and act as a kid. My parents used to call me “Hollywood” because I wasn’t shy and would talk to anyone and was always wearing my sunglasses and hat. Today, I really appreciate what goes into making a film or pulling together a shoot- all the minds involved and how creative, yet challenging, the process is. But after all of this, I think I’ll probably just live somewhere quiet, have a garden, maybe paint, travel and enjoy life in that way.

What makes you feel confident? What makes me feel confident is embracing/ accepting myself. I have my mother to thank for that. She did an incredible job of instilling confidence in me from a young age. If I came to her with something someone said or if I was feeling a certain way about myself, she ever so gently but effectively steered me in the right direction. But also I’d say just working with what you got and believing in what you have will get you up and past anything.

What was your highlight of 2022?

Some of the highlights have been that I’ve met a lot of great people this year and they’ve added a lot of joy to my life. I had the chance to travel to great places and started my acting journey. Being a part of and sharing space to think and be creative with some lovely actors and actresses in class was a very memorable and enjoyable experience.

Where do you want to travel next?

I like history and art museums. So I would like my next destination to be somewhere in Italy. I’ve been researching a lot about the country and I’ve started to take some Italian lessons as well. So I’d say it's definitely Italy.

What would you like to say to your fans/ followers?

I want to say thank you for following along with me through my journey and different phases of life. There’s been so many crazy and beautiful moments and I appreciate your support and belief in the things I do. I’m excited to continue to grow and share more with you.

When did you begin your career as an influencer/model?

I started doing Instagram full-time back in 2016, but I’ve been documenting my outfits since 2011 as a hobby.

Where is your favorite place you have ever traveled to?

Hawaii is one of my favorite places to travel to. I love going to their beautiful beaches and the food is just amazing. I always have the best and most relaxing time there.

City getaway or tropical beach getaway?

I’m a city girl through and through but will always choose a tropical beach getaway.

What was the highlight of your time in Tulum with Modeliste? Any fun stories you would like to share?

One of the highlights of our trip is going to the cenote and jumping in the water! It was so fun and felt so refreshing.

How do you balance your work life and your personal life?

I create a work-life balance by making sure I’m logged off on certain hours, as well as “off’ days like the weekend or 1-2 days out of the week where I can unplug.

What is your favorite makeup trend right now?

Sculpted brows, sun-kissed cheeks, and glossy lips! These trends together just make an effortlessly fresh look.

Have you always wanted to be in this industry? If not, what did you think you would be doing instead?

I’ve definitely always wanted to work in the fashion industry, either in PR or marketing. However, I also love the idea of starting my own brand!

What makes you feel confident?

I feel the most confident by expressing myself through fashion, but I also find confidence by practicing self-care and daily gratitude.

What was your highlight of 2022?

The highlight of my year was getting engaged and turning 30!

Where do you want to travel next?

I would love to travel to Greece and Italy.

The highlight of the trip was bonding with other women in my industry. The influencer space can be isolating since we work practically 24/7. This trip reminded me how important it is to network and push yourself outside of your comfort zone! We had so much fun creating content while enjoying the beautiful landscapes that Tulum has to offer.

Do you have any upcoming projects that you can share with our readers for 2023?

I am launching a very special project in Spring/Summer 2023 that I’ve been working on for 4 years now.

How do you balance your work life and your personal life?

Honestly, I’m working on finding that balance in 2023. I work every single day because I enjoy it. I am living my dream but I need to invest in my mental health and allow myself to take breaks from social media.

Any current trends you will NEVER partake in? If so, which trends?

I never say never anymore because trends will always repeat themselves.

What is your favorite makeup trend right now?

I love a natural dewy glow.

Have you always wanted to be in this industry? If not, what did you think you would be doing instead?

I originally wanted to work in Fashion Merchandising. The influencer space sort of fell into my lap and I ran with it. If I wasn’t an influencer I think I would have a flower shop, vintage store, or a freelance hair/ makeup artist.

What makes you feel confident? Passionfruit + mango margaritas and a micro mini skirt paired with sky high platform boots.

What was your highlight of 2022? Giving birth to my incredible baby girl, Suki. Where do you want to travel next? Tokyo, Paris, St. Lucia, and Turks & Caicos.
