editor's letter Meet our cover star Throughout the most challenging year of our lifetime, our goal at Modeliste has been to continue to bring our readers uplifting, inspiring, and empowering content focused on building a hopeful vision for the future beyond. One of the most challenging aspects of making the magazine during this time of the Covid-19 global pandemic has been the production of our international destination Cover shoots, our Mode Around The Globe Social Media Influencer Getaways and our travel editorial features. As the world begins to cautiously reopen with a commitment to a safe form of tourism, we were delighted to be able to travel once again to Garza Blanca, Cancun. Once again we experienced that magical moment when we all come together to create stunning imagery complete with glistening ocean vistas as a breathtaking backdrop. As all of our crew and attendees were required to have a negative Covid-19 test prior to our departure, we also ensured compliance with new regulations to have a negative Covid-19 test presented in order to return to the U.S. Additionally, we practiced all health and safety measures and social distancing precautions during our stay and travels, respecting our host country and resort restrictions. I have personally been blown away by the creative skills of the women gracing this month’s edition and how they have each reinvented themselves differently during this time. Creativity and change takes courage. Our Cover Star, Olivia Ponton, has served as encouragement to us all to let go, embrace change, seek new ways to be creative and truly express ourselves. This issue is testament to the power of creativity, personal growth and self-expression as we have learned how our social culture moves conversations forward and can offer respite, wisdom and escapism in a storm. It’s important during these trying times to seek inspiration and look inward to find ways to cherish it, celebrate it, and play a positive part in making it.

OLIVIA PONTON Where are you from? I am from Naples, Florida. How did you begin your career as a influencer? Me and my best friend, Sabrina Holt, in my hometown started making Tik Tok videos on our phones because ... Gosh, I don't even know why. Just because we were bored. And then it took off. I started Instagram before I did Tik Tok. And for Instagram, I just traveled a lot as a kid and was posting travel photos and a lot of people liked that. So, I grew a following on that as well. How do you balance between social media and your personal life? I definitely put my phone away for an hour a day just to completely get off social media and not work because I do sometimes struggle with mixing work and my personal life. I feel like it's very important to be able to make a hard separation throughout that, and that's why I have such amazing friends and surround myself with amazing people. As a model and influencer, what's your favorite part of each career? I think it's very empowering to be able to say you're a model and to help other girls feel just as confident. And when you go shopping, it's just like fun to see yourself. And then as an influencer, I would say it's really an amazing job because you have such a large influence on girls that are younger than you and that do look up to you. And just because I feel like I was once one of those little girls and I followed tons of girls that were Victoria Secret models. It's a responsibility and so amazing that I have the influence and power to influence young girls. What does a typical work week look like for you? Every morning I wake up at 7:00 am, workout, make my breakfast, look at my emails, get ready for the day, film my content and then go to work if I have a job or not.

With over 5 million followers on Tik Tok and 2.5 million on Instagram, while you continue to grow in the world of social media, how do you hope to influence people through your platforms? Definitely with Four Oceans. It's a nonprofit that I work with to help clean the ocean. We're in this beautiful place in Cancun right now but most people don't realize that many places like Hawaii are so trashed and many beaches are pretty much dead and can't be used because of how much plastic and trash washes up on them. What do you enjoy doing in your time off? Definitely traveling. Definitely traveling and hanging out with my friends. Also, the people that I live with are really fun to hang out with, and I just like hanging out with friends in the studio. I really love learning how to cook and try new things. What can people expect to see from you in 2021? I'm coming out with leggings and sports bras and long sleeve tops, which I'm really excited about because that's one of the main reasons why I started on social media and grew with my workout routines. I feel like that's something that a lot of people have been wondering about. Are there any other categories in your career that you'd like to explore? Acting, I think. It's kind of scary to think about, but yeah, I think it would be kind of fun to act as a different person for each movie or show or whatever it is.
You've managed to inspire people of all ages from all over the world, what advice can you give for someone who aspires to have a career like her own? Never give up. As much hate and negativity as there is in the world, there's so much positivity and just focus on positivity and keep going no matter what.
Where do you draw inspiration from for the content that you create? Alexis Ren, 100%. What would you like to say to your fans? Thank you for supporting me through everything, everything always. And just always giving me endless love. And on bad days where I literally feel horrible and I'm crying, I can go onto my pages and see so many people love me and make cool edits and write me paragraphs and ask for my advice. It's just truly motivating. It's like, well, the world doesn't hate me. That's awesome. What is your dream destination? Thailand or Bora Bora. How is your stay at Garza Blanca Cancun Resort with Modeliste Magazine? It's probably one of my favorite places I've ever been. I've been to Mexico a few times and every time it's been really nice, but I think Garza Blanca is definitely the best. What are three things you could not travel without? Aquaphor. My toothbrush and toothpaste. I'm really big on that. And then probably my bikini because wherever I go, I'm always in a bikini. Like literally, it could be snowing outside and I'm in a bikini. What has been your favorite part of working with Modeliste Magazine? Everyone is so accepting and everyone just wants to help me. It's so awesome. I feel a lot of love.

We design sustainably, eco-friendly crueltyfree home décor brand products that naturally generate well-being, so you feel happier at home. What makes your products so unique? Our products are custom made in our Los Angeles design studio. We hand cut the beauty into our pillows and soft goods, infusing them with heart. You feel your soul come alive and the difference of their beauty when you live with them in your home. Our gods and goddess meditation candles are a sensory experience, activating the light energy of your rooms which brings you into the present moment through your olfactory senses. Can you describe your creative design process? My design process is very intuitive, I often follow my bliss and it leads me to create designs and products that are unique and very timely. I often lead the marketplace with my sense of color and material choices. My love of textiles was given to me through
6 time spent with my grandmother as a young girl. We would spend summers sewing together and I was always mesmerized by her textile collection and sense of beauty. I always feel spirit working through me when I write or create my collections.
Feather and Down pillows are the softest and most eco-friendly. However, some people are allergic to feathers and must have synthetic fill that is not as soft, plus you have off-gassing in the first months with synthetic fill.
When looking to add pillows to your home decor, what are the most important factors to consider?
What trends do you think will be big in 2021?
Pillows are the easiest ways to change the vibe and update a room. Knowing how you desire to feel in your rooms is the first thing I consider. Textiles and Color affect how you feel. I prefer eco-friendly textiles made with linen, eco-cotton, or hemp, as these are cradle-to-cradle textiles that are also biodegradable and feel good to live with. I try to stay away from synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon, rayon, and acrylic because they don’t feel good against the skin and over time don’t wear well or biodegrade. Color is important because the pillow pulls a room together accenting the rug and artwork on the walls to create a cohesive interior. Size and Placement are also a factor, plus the type of fill that is inside has a large impact.
Wellness at home, Interior Design Minimalism, and Neutral Color Stories. If you could describe the line in 3 words, what would they be? Cozy, Sustainable living. What is the inspiration behind your latest collection? In 2020, I became a certified Unplug meditation teacher and I created my new Gods and Goddesses Meditation candle collection to blend my love of mythology with my love of meditation. Because I feel that indoor air quality is important. Scent is a great way to become present in a room and a good scent creates a more pleasurable experience while inside. MODELISTE | MARCH 2021 43

AÏSSATA DIALLO What's the first thing you thought of this morning? The first thing I thought of this morning was prayer. I was just thankful and blessed. How would you describe yourself, in three words? Fun, family-oriented, and very spiritual. How did you begin your career as an influencer, and what steps did you take to get where you are today? I kind of did not plan on being an influencer. I'm supposed to be a doctor, but turns out I'm scared of blood. I'm scared of needles. I'm scared of everything that has to do with being a doctor. So instead, I just started playing around with social media and next thing you know, I'm an influencer, influencing you guys. What's something your followers may not know about you? One of many things my followers do not know about me is I'm a really down-to-earth, friendly, and goofy person. People just see my page and how well-curated it is and they just assume I'm really bougie and I'm in over myself, and I don't like that. I'm really friendly. Talk to me, guys. As an influencer, how do you hope to influence people most through your platforms? As an influencer, my ultimate goal is always to inspire, motivate, and kind of give a platform for people who look like me and people who come where I come from, because there's not a lot of genuine people out here doing what I do. What can people expect to see from you in the year of 2021? In the year 2021, expect some amazing things. I am currently working on my own brand, so be on the lookout for that. I'm really excited, so stay tuned. What would you consider your uniform? I like to be comfortable. I like to feel confident in whatever I wear. Yeah, comfortable and confident. Vintage or designer? Vintage.

What is your go-to beauty look at this very moment? I love a cat eye, some bronze, and a glowy, dewy look with some lip gloss. What is your favorite Pixi product? My current favorite Pixi product is the Rose Glow Mist. I love dewy looks. Who are the three women that are blowing your mind right now? Oh my God. I love Rihanna. I love you so much. I hope one day you see this. Rihanna is, oh, I love that woman. I love Michelle Obama. And last, but not least, I really love Zendaya. What was your favorite part of your getaway with Modeliste at Garza Blanca? One of my favorite parts of being in beautiful Garza Blanca with Modeliste is the connections and friendships that I've made in this short amount of time. Nothing but amazing vibes. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans? I just want to say thank you, guys, so much for supporting me and believing in me and just being here with me throughout this journey, the ups and downs. And I can't wait to make you guys proud. What do you love most about Modeliste Magazine? My favorite part about Modeliste Magazine is the fact that they give a platform for smaller influencers like me, and you guys get to see new audiences every month. The first thing I thought of this morning is, “I can't believe I'm still waking up here.” How would you describe yourself, in three words? I would describe myself as fun, kind and happy. How did you begin your career as an influencer, and what steps did you take to get where you are today? I just started posting photos. I really love to do makeup and fashion, and I just started out taking photos and having fun in general. What's something your followers may not know about you? Something my followers may not know about me is that I have a daughter and she's almost two. As an influencer, how do you hope to influence people most through your products and through your platforms? I hope to influence people just to feel good about themselves, to feel beautiful in their own skin and just feel beautiful as your natural self, honestly. Perfect. What can people expect to see from you in 2021? People can expect to see more content, more vacation, more braids. What would you consider to be your uniform? A cutout dress, for sure. What is your go-to beauty look at this very moment? I really love just like a dewy glowy, natural look. Maybe that's because I'm currently here, but that's usually my go-to.
KALANI HILLIKER What's the first thing you thought of this morning? The first thing I thought about when I woke up this morning is…. I need to go back to sleep. How would you describe yourself? I'm very outgoing. I like to try new things. I like to say I'm pretty funny and I think I'm a very genuine and honest person. How did you begin your career as an influencer, and what steps did you take to get where you are today? So, I started off when I was super young on a TV show called Dance Moms. And that kind of just led me into this world of social media and everything that, you know, you grow up with. And that's how I started becoming an influencer and doing things like this. What's something your followers may not know about you? My followers may not know that I'm extremely afraid of heights, terrified of heights. I didn't even go to the top of the Eiffel tower when I was with my family, I'm so scared. As an influencer, how do you hope to influence people most through your platforms? As an influencer, I feel like it's my job to influence the younger generation of people, similar to my age. I like to be like a big sister to my fans and inspire them to remain true to themselves and never let anybody else alter your personal opinion of yourself. What can people expect to see from you in 2021? I’m coming out with a new brand that I'm creating, which I'm really super excited about. What would you consider your uniform? Honestly, I'm a girl that likes to be comfy. My uniform is a matching sweat outfit and some air forces. I feel like that's just my go-to all the time. Vintage or designer? What is your favorite Pixi product? I think my favorite Pixi product is the palette. It has such beautiful colors for that glowy look I've been going for. Who are the women in your life that you find inspiring right now? I've been super inspired by all the girls here. We all have such different vibes and different things that we're going for. It's really cool to just have a big group of women together, inspiring other people. What was your favorite part of your getaway with Modeliste at Garza Blanca? My favorite part of this amazing trip has just been meeting the girls. You know, I didn't know a single person here and I feel like we've all gotten really close and became like a little family. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans? I would like to say thank you for supporting me through all these different adventures in life. I've been doing this since I was so young, so it means a lot to me and I love you. What do you love most about Modeliste Magazine? What I love most about Modeliste Magazine is that they bring everybody together and really like to empower you. Everybody's so kind and so sweet. NICOLETTE GRAY What's the first thing you thought of this morning? The first thing I thought of this morning when I woke up was definitely that I realized I was in Cancun and I'm so grateful to be here. How would you describe yourself in three words to Modeliste readers? Ambitious, genuine and spontaneous. How did you begin your career as an influencer, and what steps did you take to get where you are today? I began my career as an influencer when I was 11 years old. I was always posting videos online. I was just a big viewer of YouTube. So I eventually just started creating as most people would. And then when I was 15 years old, I was actually on Dr. Phil with my family. And from there, I started to gain traction from the internet and my YouTube channel took off. I eventually just went from receiving a lot of hate on the internet to just vlogging my life, showing myself and my family and all of our real moments. Even, we started to film every single moment in our family, whether it was good or bad. We just wanted to show we're a genuine family and we have moments just like every other family does. And people started to fall in love with that. And that's why I'm here and that's what turned my career into what it is. What's something your followers may not know about you? One thing the Internet wouldn't know about me is that I'm actually very different from how the press portrays me. On my YouTube channel, I'm actually myself. I'm very real. As an influencer, how do you hope to influence people most through your platforms? I hope to show people through my platforms that they can really be their true selves and they don't have to hide anything because a lot of influencers are shy to put their best version of themselves out there. Sometimes it makes me feel insecure when I'm watching other people. But whenever I film, I just show everything and I'm not going to act like I have it altogether because I truly don't, like most of the people out there. I'm sure a lot of other people are figuring it out as we're just trying to be our best selves. I just want to show that's normal. 120 MARCH 2021 | MODELISTE
What can people expect to see from you in 2021? In 2021, I have a lot of projects that I'm looking to release. I just released my jewelry line last year and I've loved working on that so much. I have been working on a clothing line and some other things that are going to be out soon. But aside from projects, I really want to focus on my YouTube channel this year, because sometimes I tend to go through a lot of things and I'm just not picking up the camera as much. But this year I really want to focus on uploading a lot and getting back in touch with my audience because they are a part of me. But if I'm not constantly just putting out content and talking to them, I don't feel complete. What would you consider to be your uniform? I don't have a typical uniform. If you look at me and look at what I wear, I feel like it is predictable and I do have a style. I'm constantly evolving my style and I honestly haven't figured it out yet. I'm not at the point where I love every single thing that I wear every day. I'm still figuring it out and I'm still building my wardrobe and that's a journey that I'm very, very excited to keep going on. Vintage or designer? I love both vintage and designer. I actually love archive designers, which is vintage and designer all in one. I have a store back in LA where we actually sell a lot of archive designer clothing. It's called Safe Haven. And I just love both because the designer is really cool. With vintage and archive designers, you can get a piece that is so hard to find and that you're not going to see everybody walking in them. And that's why I love it so much. Also, it's so hard to find those pieces that, once you get them, you value them so much. Sneakers or heels? If I had to choose between sneakers or heels, I would 100% choose sneakers. I love how heels look sometimes, but I hate how they feel. And I have heels that feel okay, but they don't look the best. So definitely sneakers. What is your go-to beauty look at this very moment? I actually do the same makeup every single day. I'm looking to expand my makeup skills so I can start to do different looks. Sometimes I would like to glam it up, but right now I pretty much do the same routine every day. It's pretty natural makeup for my everyday look and I love it. What is your favorite Pixi product? My favorite Pixi product is the On-the-Glow Blush. I used it when I was getting ready today and I just love it so much. When I first put it on, I thought it was so pigmented and I was like, wow, this color is so intense, but then you blend it in and you just get the perfect glow.
Who are the women in your life that you find inspiring right now? I love this question so much. Three women... I'm honestly inspired by every single woman in my life. I just think women are so amazing and every single one I've ever met has inspired me in so many ways that they don't even know yet. But if I had to choose three, it would definitely be my Mom, number one, and I just want to put my mom and sister together. And then after that, my friend, Amanda Diaz. She just inspires me so much with the way she handles life, with the way she approaches business situations, with the way she approaches her social media, everything. I admire her so much! And third, it would be one of my childhood best friends and my business partner, Nicolette. Her name's also Nicolette, and she inspires me so much just with everything she does. And she always tells me that I inspire her, but she doesn't even understand that half the reason that I'm able to do anything that I do is because of her. What was your favorite part of your getaway with Modeliste at Garza Blanca? My favorite part of my getaway with Modeliste is definitely meeting everybody. There's nothing I appreciate more than just being in this amazing new beautiful resort and connecting with people - I've met so many friends on this trip. When you're with a group of 10 people and you're with them the whole time for five days, you really just get close and build a connection with every single person. So that has definitely been my favorite thing. And aside from that, it has been the incredible dinners where we get to chat with everyone and the fantastic pool. I'm definitely looking forward to going in the pool again and enjoying the beach. Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans? If I could say one thing to my fans, it would be that I love them so, so much. You guys have no idea how much I appreciate you. And even if I'm not uploading every single second on my channel, just know I love you guys so much and I am with you and you guys are with me with every single thing that I do. There's nothing I value more than the connection that I have with my followers. What do you love most about Modeliste Magazine? What I love most about Modeliste magazine is the people that run the company. I love them so much. I love every single person that I've gotten to work with on this trip and also I love what the magazine stands for and everything they put out.
