pring is often associated with fresh starts – a new season. In this issue we celebrate the notion of looking ahead into the future. With the new season comes the endless search for a new look, a fresh approach, a different perspective. Every season, new styles become pervasive– eliciting a powerful response and an elated sense of excitement and anticipation of newness. Our cover star this month, Katherine McNamara is the epitome of youthful and a refreshing, playful beauty. With her latest role in the ethereal fantasy series, Shadowhunters, Katherine shares with us what inspired her to become an actress and gave us these words to reflect upon--- “We live in a world that focuses so much on beauty, perfection, and filters that we forget sometimes the that the real beauty of humanity is in the imperfections. Something I love most about SHADOWHUNTERS is there is never a “typical day.” There are so many aspects and elements to the show, every day brings a new challenge. Some days are more focused on emotional character driven drama while others are completely action based. Never a dull moment on this set! How would you describe your style? I would describe my personal style as classic with an edge. I stay in a neutral color palette and classic silhouettes accented with unexpected pieces to add a bit of edge. People say I wear too much black but I love it. Its simple, chic, and makes me feel a little badass every day. Plus, I can play more with putting different pieces together if they are all the same color. Do you have any fashion icons that you look up to? Emma Watson, Gigi Hadid, Audrey Hepburn, and 90s Winona Ryder . What are 3 staple clothing items every girl should splurge on for a sophisticated wardrobe? LEATHER JACKET - casual to dressy, badass to boho, a leather jacket is the chameleon of a wardrobe. Plus, if you invest in a quality piece it can last for years. VERSATILE BOOTS - find a good pair of boots that match your style and wear away! Not only are they comfortable and functional, they make any look just a little bit badass. KEEPSAKE JEWELRY - look for a piece that you connect with, that means something to you or makes a statement about who you are. Something simple and versatile that can go with any look can personalize your wardrobe.

What are your 3 favorite apps on your phone right now? Spotify - I’m always looking for new music. Buzzfeed - It has a great balance of fun and informative pieces Pinterest - Baking, home decor, nail colors, makeup trends, new workouts it has it all! What is your most played song this month? However for going out or any other special occasion I love playing with ColourPop lips. They have so many amazing colors! Do you have any current favorite must-have hair products? Oribe is my current obsession when it comes to hair products. Their shampoo and conditioner keeps my hair healthy. The texturizing spray holds while still keeping it touchable. The Balm d’Or Heat Styling shield literally saves my hair from sure destruction when heat styling. Where would you most like to travel to that you haven’t been to yet? Everywhere. Travel is one of my favorite pastimes. Give me my passport and a plane ticket and I’m ready to go. Travel provides such a learning experience and insight into other points of view, I find it truly expanding. Truly that’s a hard choice to make because I do want to see the world. I think Europe is my next venture, maybe Thailand… South America? Clearly I have some decisions to make… What is your spirit animal. My spirit animal is a zebra I think… Its powerful, energetic, and lives life in black or white, it just doesn't always know which is which. I always want my life to be clear cut, right or wrong, a or b, up or down, but I’m learning that’s not always the case… I have to remind myself to accept the grey areas of life a bit and that it's okay if I don't know if I’m white with black stripes or black with white stripes.

Describe a typical day off of work. Again, my days are never typical and that’s the fun of it. If I have time off, I’m working on my Masters in Literature, probably hitting the gym or a spin class, eating Mexican food, and spending time with friends. I’ll probably be at a game night playing mafia or running charades until the wee hours of the morning. Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tell us about? Music! Aside from SHADOWHUNTERS and MAZE RUNNER: DEATH CURE, I am writing and recording music in my spare time. I really enjoy having a creative outlet in which I’m not playing a character. My music allows me to share a little bit of who I am with the world and it's very refreshing. I can’t wait for people to hear.

What do you love about Modeliste? I love that Modeliste is fearless and experimental. I had so much fun on this shoot playing with the different wardrobe, hair and makeup, and lighting setups. I learned a lot and really pushed outside of my comfort zone. Thank you!

What do you think is the most important life lesson for someone to learn? "That God will never give someoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s gift to you the same way heâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll never give your gift to anyone else. There is no need for jealousy or comparison."

Q&A with PEARL THUSI What inspired you to become an actress? Growing up I thought everything on television was reality. Then I learned that all of my favorite stories were something I could actually be a part of and do in the form of acting.

You are also currently hosting the Lip Sync Battle Africa. What are some of your favorite memories on the show so far? Every show had its moments and I hope I have time in my schedule to do the second season.

I’ve always had a very active imagination combined with huge ambition and as a teenager, I finally decided I wanted to be an instrument of storytelling; entertaining people, touching them and bringing joy into hearts and homes.

I think our first show with Boity and Cassper Nyovest was epic and another of my favorite shows had Tiwa Savage and Nomzamo Mbatha who really held nothing back. The chirping between the industry queens and the comedians was amazing.

Making the unreal a reality brings me so much joy, it’s so exciting to play make believe as an adult and have people appreciate it. The escape that acting provides is something I treasure. When it is no longer about you but about considering and empathizing with someone else’s emotions and making them your own, it is such an enriching experience You've starred in the hit show Quantico- how do you describe your character Dayana? She’s really smart and has the guts to back it up. As all characters, she’s complex, extremely brave and has survived some really unimaginable things that people will learn about as the story unfolds. Do you and your character share any similar personality traits? Yes- it’s often necessary to share traits with any character you play and of course take on other traits they exhibit. We’ve both suffered tremendous loss and use work to cover it up and deal with it when necessary. I’m often told I’m very strong and I take that as a compliment and I hope I apply it well to Dayana’s character because - as this is television, her strength is amplified. Dayana is also very loyal and deep down she’s sensitive but treats it as none of anybody’s business. She’s an A-type personality and a lawyer. 48

If you had to perform in the Lip Sync battle, what would you most like to sing? Something by Brenda Fassie, Rihanna or Beyoncé. Describe your style. Eclectic and sophisticated. What are some of your current favorite fashion trends of the season? I love sunglasses and I love how people are fusing the old school styles with new vibrant and modern touches. Torn jeans are my favorite because you can play with that in so many ways. What is your favorite type of jewelry accessory? I love beautiful rings. Do you have a favorite fashion Designer? No - I draw inspiration from so many designers that it is hard to say. Tom Ford is a designer I love and hope to work with in the future. I’m obsessed with so many African designers tooDavid Tlale, Thula Sindi, Gert Johan Cotzee and Zarth.

What's your favorite TV show of all time? This is difficult. I’m not going to lie - I really don’t have one that would be for all time. But right now- it’s “How to Get Away with Murder.”

Most memorable career moment so far? I think definitely moving to New York for “Quantico.” It has been the most life-changing opportunity. What's your spirit animal? A panther What surprises you most about people? How quickly they forget who they are, what really matters and the fact that we let our egos and selfishness stop us from doing things that would make us as individuals and the world a better place. What makes you laugh no matter what? Good memories, especially the funny childhood ones. My daughter has the special power of melting what I believe is a hardcore heart. If you had a superpower what would it be? Teleportation and I’d also love to read people’s minds or have the ability to fly. What's your favorite song lyric of all time? My favorite song is “Will you be there” by Michael Jackson. It is one of the most perfect songs to me.

What one thing do you need to have in your fridge at any given time? Champagne. Only because I’m so busy and forget to find time to celebrate the small victories (and you never know who may come over)!

What's something that you have always wanted to try but you've been too scared to do. This is a difficult one for me to answer because I try and do everything I want to do fearlessly. The only thing that stops me is the opportunity. One thing I can think of is skydiving.

What's something you can't do? Sing. I can hold a note, but I can’t REALLY sing. LOL. It is so sad because I love doing it so much.

What do you love about Modeliste Magazine? Everything about it is sophisticated and sexy. It’s just hot.

Q&A with ASHLEY BIANE FEATHERSON “Dear White People” seems like such an important and interesting plot line! Can you give us a synopsis of what it’s about? Dear White People follows a diverse group of students of color as we navigate a predominantly white Ivy League college where racial tensions are often swept under the rug. The series is a send-up of "post-racial" America that also weaves a universal story about forging one's own unique path.

She's a smart woman. She payed me no attention, simply kept encouraging me to study my craft, perform and get a degree in the arts. All of which I went on to do!

How do you describe the character you play? Joelle Brooks is bold, intelligent, cultured, fashionable, hilarious (very quotable) and most importantly she is a fantastic friend. Joelle wears her heart on her sleeve and she isn't afraid to stand firm in her convictions.

Since your show is premiering on Netflix, what are some of your other favorite Netflix guilty pleasures that you like to binge watch? Any and ALL documentaries (especially crime or sports docs), Stranger Things, The OA, The Crown, Orange Is The New Black, Narcos, Bloodline, House Of Cards & Master Of None.

Are you similar or different to your character you play on screen? Joelle and I share many wonderful similarities. I take my friendships very seriously and I love that we have that in common. Being a good friend and loved one is an honor and a joy. Joelle and I both wear our hearts on our sleeves. As bold as Joelle is...she is still emerging from her shell. She's a sophomore in college and still learning who she is. That is where we differ...I am completely out of my shell and living OUT LOUD! How did you first get into acting? My older sister Nkena was into acting. We are 9 years apart so naturally I wanted to do everything she did. I was cast as the Bunny in "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" at 4 years old at Franklin Montessori School. I've been on stage or on screen ever since. Did anyone specific inspire you to get into the industry? I always wanted to be an actress. I've never had any other career aspirations. I vividly remember watching Kyla Pratt in "One On One" on UPN and saying to myself "If Kyla can do it...I can do it". All throughout middle school I begged my mom to move me to LA so I could pursue my film and television career. 52

What is your funniest red carpet moment? Hasn't happened yet. Oh geez...now I'm nervous! All of my red carpet moments have been pretty serious! What are 5 things in your purse that you can’t leave home without? Red Lip (MAC Ruby Woo or RiRi Woo), Oil Blotting Sheets, Saint Laurent Shades, Black Ink Pen & TJ's Electrolyte Water w/a splash of lemon juice. What is your current handbag? Designer? Style? Zara Large Tote Bag. It is my favorite everyday/travel bag!

Red Heart, Woman With Crown (Queen), Eye Roll What piece of advice would you give your 15 year old self? "Live without a care in the world Ash. Life only gets better." Describe your ideal day off of work. Going on a nice hike, grabbing lunch, then and heading to the spa with one of my closest girlfriends! Where would you most like to travel to? St. Tropez What are some of your tips for putting together a chic and stylish outfit with minimal effort when pressed for time? You can never go wrong with denim, black, a leather jacket, a hat, hoop earrings, or a red lip! What I love about this look is you can dress it up or down with a dress, t-shirt, heels, sneakers, boots, whatever your hearts desires! What is a must have hair product for you? EDGE CONTROL. Q&A with KEESHA SHARP Lethal Weapon is such a fun comedy-drama series where you play Roger Murtaugh, played by Damon Wayans, wife. What is your favorite part of this role? I love being the strong woman who can do it all. There are some roles that may focus on being the supportive wife or being the independent powerful woman or being the stylish sexy one. I think Trish is all of those things as a high powered defense attorney, mother, supportive wife and even as a bridge between Roger and Riggs. What are the most challenging aspects of filming this series? I think the schedule. Because Damon and Clayne have so many scenes from action to drama to comedy, our production staff has an incredible task of fitting it all in. We have 2 units most times and it feels like shooting a film! But, they do it and do it great!! What sort of person is going to enjoy this show? Everyone. It really has something for everyone. But mostly, anyone who enjoys to be entertained. It is a heart filled story with adrenaline and laughter. Just a good time! Are you a fan of the old Lethal Weapon films? Yes! I watch them whenever they come on! When I first got an audition for this, I worried about a TV version. Then I read the script and it’s the only show I wanted to do. How is today’s Lethal Weapon television series similar? It’s based on the original story and depth of the original movie. And in that, Matt Miller and the Producers nailed it. Even more, they found a way to make it contemporary while keeping the style true. How is it different? Well, I think it is very current. Clayne and Damon bring their own personalities to the roles which honors the character but departs from Gibson and Glover. Of course my role is probably the most different as Trish is not a stay at home Mom. 56

What do you and your costars like to do on set when you are in between takes? Rest! When not doing that we catch up with each other. And there is a lot of joking around. Do you share any similarities between yourself and the character you play on this show? Yes, I share many qualities with Trish. As a mother who is passionate about her career AND her family. As a woman who encourages her husband. And, like Trish and Rog, my husband and I have been married 20 years and we make sure to keep it sexy. Our love for each other surpasses time. Another similarity is the fact that Trish wants to help those who can’t help themselves. You’re also set to star in a very different type of production. You are cast as Thurgood Marshall’s wife in the upcoming film Marshall. Can you tell us about this upcoming project and the character you play? Many people know Thurgood Marshall from being on the Supreme Court or from Brown Vs Board of Education but this film focuses on an early case in 1940 about a man wrongly accused in Connecticut. I play his first wife Buster and the film shows a period when they were going through challenging times. If you could have dinner with anybody, dead or alive, who would it be? There are SO many throughout time it is hard to pick. Right now what’s coming to me is Leonardo Da Vinci. He had such a creative and intelligent mind for art, invention, writing. I would imagine he would be fascinating to talk with. How do you describe your current style? I change it up a lot but the only thing consistent is a high heel or platform! Usually I like a Sexy Stylish Casual look. But I’m a Gemini so my mood changes.

Would you rather be overdressed or underdressed? Overdressed for sure. When it comes to jewelry, what types of pieces are you drawn to? Extremely simple. I also love leather, leather, leather. What is your current favorite shade of lipstick? Rich reds. Currently “Icon” by HOURGLASS If you were on a desert island and could only bring one beauty product, what would it be? I would’ve said lipstick but the desert island has me thinking Coconut Oil. I would use it in my hair, on my skin and for medicinal purposes. Where is somewhere you would like to travel to that you haven’t been yet? Iceland. We have always wanted to go there. The land of Fire and Ice. What is your favorite place that you have traveled to that you would go back to in a heartbeat? Kauai Do you have any upcoming projects that you are able to share with us? Marshall film, hopefully season 2 of Lethal Weapon and the other things that are still not announced yet :) What’s your favorite thing to do when you don’t have to be on set? I love being at the gym, dance class or watching TV at home. Why do you love Modeliste? Fashion Fashion Fashion! I love the high quality of the images and the content.
