DEAR ALL MODELISTE READERS! I first of all would like to start by saying thank you to Modeliste magazine for giving me the opportunity to be a guest editor of the February Voices for Change & Empowerment issue. As a model I am in many ways a blank canvas for other peoples creations and ideas. It’s amazing to be a part of making these incredible stories and seeing how some of the most creative people in the world work. I love to be part of the process where people can use me as their canvas for expressing themselves. Having been in this industry for many years, I am now lucky enough to sometimes get to contribute to this process in a more direct way. On my Modeliste cover shoot with Bryce Thompson, we truly worked together to create something new and exciting. It was so fulfilling to be a part of the vision from start to finish. In addition, to be asked to be a guest editor solidified this even more - so thank you! This past year we have been through what has for many been one of the most difficult and challenging years of their lives. 2020 has given us a lot of challenges, but also given us a big opportunity to look inward. To reflect and assess the life we have been given and are living. To not take for granted a single moment of freedom, time spent with our loved ones, our health and above all showed us the importance of solidarity towards each other as humans. Going into 2021 I believe that we, with the time we have had to look within ourselves, have changed for the better. We have seen how the power in numbers is so important when it comes to addressing issues and making change. We have seen how incredibly powerful it is for us to use our voices in matters that are crucial to us. We have realized the power that platforms like social media have to spread awareness, educate and inform, and how anyone, anywhere, can take advantage of that. Let’s keep raising our voices on matters that are important to us, because even if it won’t happen overnight, it will make a difference. I am looking forward to seeing how much more we will evolve in the next year, and I am so excited for what the future has to bring.

FRIDA AASEN Where are you from? I am from Kristiansand, a town in the south of Norway. Describe yourself in a sentence. I would say I am kind, hardworking and humble. How did you begin your career as a model? I was scouted in a shopping mall at 14 years old. Then at 16 I went to Milan and it all started from there! In what ways has your career shaped you into the woman you are today? It has given me a lot of independence from a young age. Shown me how to connect socially and on a business level with people from all background/ages etc. I think it’s been such a blessing especially to be able to be young and travel the world and experience so many different cultures and people. What's something people would be surprised to know about you? Maybe that I was a total tomboy when I was younger. No one would have thought my job would include all this makeup, hair and dressing up haha!
Who and what inspires you? I'm inspired by people I meet at work, there’s so many creatives I get to meet and work with every day. I also get a lot of inspiration from social media, and just living in NYC and traveling to all kinds of beautiful places.

As a model and an influencer, how do you hope to influence those that look up to you? I hope to influence those who follow me to enjoy a healthy life, be curious and explore all you can in life! As well as hopefully sharing information on topics that are important, which I am doing now through my project together with Next Generation Oslo.
What can people expect to see from you in the remainder of 2021? I’ll be continuing modeling full time as I am now back in New York after the pandemic. This year I also wish to continue to use my platform in a different way then before, specifically with my project with Next Generation Oslo. I hope I can continue to inspire people and share important topics and messages.
What has been a highlight in your career? My highlight must have been the Victoria’s Secret show. It was a goal of mine since I started my career.
What are you looking forward to most at the moment? I'm looking forward to be able to go home to Norway and see my family in hopefully not too long
What's an obstacle you have faced and in what ways have you overcome it? I’ve had to come out of my shell a lot doing this job. I’m naturally a quite shy and introverted person. Sometimes I can still get intimidated before a big shoot or show. I have to tell myself to snap out of it!
You have shed light on philanthropy through your platform - What are you working on now and in what ways can our Modeliste readers get involved to help? Right now I am working on continuing my project with Next Generation Oslo. Next Generation Oslo is a group who work together with UNICEF Norway, helping to raise funds for some of their projects. As the pandemic hit, they were looking for ways to reach more people through social media. We connected and together we started doing IG lives where I speak with people who are passionate about a certain project/business etc. Together we hope to shed light on some very important topics that I hope can help and inspire those following me. I’m always looking for new people to be involved, or topics we should speak more about. It would be amazing if the Modeliste readers had any suggestions. When the current situation allows us to have fundraising events this is something that I hope to do, which will be a more direct way for people to help.
What are three words you live by? I don’t have 3 specific words. But I do live by treating everyone around me with kindness - you never know what someone is going through. What are your top 3 hacks? Enough sleep, healthy diet and healthy mind. What are your top 3 beauty secrets? People would be surprised to know that I actually love deep cleaning my own house. Cleaning really helps me distress and calm down when I have anxiety. Top three places to shop? I’ve become an online shopper in the pandemic! So Net-A-Porter, LUISAVIAROMA and I also love the Frankie Shop. In recent times, we have learned to adapt to spending more time indoors - any hobbies you have picked up along the way? I have become a much better cook. Living in NYC I never cooked much, but in the pandemic I started to really enjoy it. I also started doing much more mindfulness (meditation) and yoga.
What's something you would like to say to your fans? Thank you so much for the support, it truly means a lot to me! What has been a highlight of working with Modeliste Magazine? I had the best time working with Modeliste, it was such a fun, creative and collaborative effort.
What is your morning skincare routine? In the morning I wash my face with water, and apply my serum, cream and sunscreen.

What was the inspiration behind the creation of the brand?

We are inspired to create an eco-friendly home décor brand. We partner with mother nature whenever possible, through the natural fiber textiles we design with, breathing life into coveted heirloom textiles. We design sustainably, eco-friendly crueltyfree home décor brand products that naturally generate well-being, so you feel happier at home. What makes your products so unique? Our products are custom made in our Los Angeles design studio. We hand cut the beauty into our pillows and soft goods, infusing them with heart. You feel your soul come alive and the difference of their beauty when you live with them in your home. Our gods and goddess meditation candles are a sensory experience, activating the light energy of your rooms which brings you into the present moment through your olfactory senses. Can you describe your creative design process? My design process is very intuitive, I often follow my bliss and it leads me to create designs and products that are unique and very timely. I often lead the marketplace with my sense of color and material choices. My love of textiles was given to me through time spent with my grandmother as a young girl. We would spend summers sewing together and I was always mesmerized by her textile collection and sense of beauty. I always feel spirit working through me when I write or create my collections.

When looking to add pillows to your home decor, what are the most important factors to consider? Pillows are the easiest ways to change the vibe and update a room. Knowing how you desire to feel in your rooms is the first thing I consider. Textiles and Color affect how you feel. I prefer eco-friendly textiles made with linen, eco-cotton, or hemp, as these are cradle-to-cradle textiles that are also biodegradable and feel good to live with. I try to stay away from synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon, rayon, and acrylic because they don’t feel good against the skin and over time don’t wear well or biodegrade. Color is important because the pillow pulls a room together accenting the rug and artwork on the walls to create a cohesive interior. Size and Placement are also a factor, plus the type of fill that is inside has a large impact. Feather and Down pillows are the softest and most eco-friendly. However, some people are allergic to feathers and must have synthetic fill that is not as soft, plus you have offgassing in the first months with synthetic fill.

What trends do you think will be big in 2021? Wellness at home, Interior Design Minimalism, and Neutral Color Stories. If you could describe the line in 3 words, what would they be? Cozy, Sustainable living. What is the inspiration behind your latest collection? In 2020, I became a certified Unplug meditation teacher and I created my new Gods and Goddesses Meditation candle collection to blend my love of mythology with my love of meditation. Because I feel that indoor air quality is important. Scent is a great way to become present in a room and a good scent creates a more pleasurable experience while inside. What can we expect to see from the line in the future? I am inspired by the natural world and our human need to be comfortable in it. I am inspired by the hardwired systems in the human body. Our senses which are designed to keep us safe can also be activated to bring us pleasure and comfort. You can look forward to more beautiful collections that activate the senses, are sustainable and ecofriendly. What you love most about Modeliste Magazine – Fashion is the underlying inspiration for everything I create at House of Cindy.
