Welcome to the issue I

n fashion, as in life, September is often associated with fresh starts – a new season, looking ahead into the future. It’s our philosophy at Modeliste – that moments of beauty and joy can be celebrated and shared.

So we bring you the new September issue, with travel stories that have taken us to the most glorious of landscapes (from the picturesque islands in Belize to the spectacular Riviera Maya coast in Mexico); and a cover shoot with Olivia Culpo, who we love for her support of other women, as well as her radiant optimism combined with a dedication to hard work.

On a scale of one to ten, how excited are you about life right now?

On a scale of one to ten, I try to always be excited about life. So right now, I am a ten!

Can you tell us about any upcoming projects you currently have in the works?

I have a few very exciting upcoming projects I can't say too much about, but some is in the fashion space. I'm filming another movie this summer, in Jamaica. My other movie just is about to be in theaters August 31st, called Reprisal. And also I have models who are coming out on E!, in September, and also all the fashion weeks, fashion month, so stay tuned.

Life theme song at the moment?

My life theme song at the moment would have to be anything Aretha Franklin, because I love her.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would describe my personal style as modern, classic, playing with current trends.

Daring?

No, not really. As a true fashionista, I can't say I’m totally daring, because some people really go all out.

What are you most excited for Fall fashion?

For Fall fashion, I'm always so excited to add layers and textures. I love seeing a lot of plaid. Army green, navy, copper tones, everything with those really rich fall colors.

Favorite designer runway shows you're most looking forward to seeing during fashion month?

Ooh, during fashion month, there's so many designers that I am so excited to see. I walked in Sally Lapointe and Zadig & Voltaire last year, that was so exciting. So I'm excited for that this year, and then the show that I am the most excited to see and be at this fashion month, is Dolce & Gabbana and I hope everybody follows because there is something exciting happening.

Best gift you've ever received?

The best gift that I ever received, this sounds absolutely insane, but I still have my baby blanket, and it's so comfy, and it reminds me of my family, and my mom and dad, and it's definitely the best gift I ever received.

What's your favorite country to visit?

My signature scent is Chanel Chance.

I wear it every day.

I have so many countries that I have been to and absolutely love. I could never really pick just one, but in general I've loved visiting Dubai, India, anywhere in Europe, Italy especially that's where my family is from. France, Canada, I can't choose just one.

Current handbag?

Last country you visited?

My current handbag is a vintage Channel that I bought from Tradsey and my favorite Tod's handbag that is classic.

The last country I visited was Spain.

Signature scent?

Best beauty advice you've ever received?

Best beauty advice that I've ever received is smile.

Holy grail, go to product?

Holy grail, go to product would have to be coconut oil. I use it for so many different things. I also love witch hazel, any sort of astringent, but coconut oil I use to shave, hair mask, moisturizer, makeup remover, everything.

Favorite song?

My favorite song is anything by SZA, Khalid, Aretha Franklin, and or Old Dominion.

If you could sing a duet with anyone, who would it be?

If I could sing a duet with anyone, it would absolutely hands down be Frank Sinatra. That voice is just unbelievable. It reminds me of my childhood, honestly.

What country do you wish to visit?

The country that I am most looking forward to visiting next, is definitely the Maldives.

Best way to de-stress?

For me, the best way to de-stress is I love playing the cello, it helps me a lot just to ease my mind and take me out of the current moment. I love to meditate, I love to work out. If I'm not doing those things when I'm stressed out, I know that a panic attack is on its way.

If you had one super power, what would it be?

If I had one superpower it would be to be able to teleport myself to any location I want in the world. You know, if you want to go home, have a nice home cooked meal, snap your fingers, you're there. Want to be on a beach?

Snap your fingers and you're there.

What is your most favorite thing about yourself?

It's always so awkward when somebody asks you what your favorite quality is about yourself, which just feels very weird to say that out loud, but I do love that I'm very family oriented and I have a big family, and I come from people that I'm very close to.

Who was the last person you talked What do you love most about to on the phone?

Modeliste magazine?

The last person that I talked to on the phone was my mom.

I love that Modeliste magazine is not afraid to take risks.

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?

Why are you excited to be the next cover star?

I think people would be surprised to know that I own a restaurant in Rhode Island, my hometown, with my family, and I also play the cello.

Secret talent?

I can tie a cherry stem with my tongue, and I'm really good at catching things in my mouth, like popcorn and Skittles.

I am so excited to be the next cover star of Modeliste, because it's a magazine that I've known for so long, and it was such an unbelievable team, everybody that was on this set is somebody that I admire so much. I can't wait to see the final product and I hope everybody loves it.

Number one tip to capture the perfect Instagram photo?

Absolutely good lighting. You need to make sure that the light is perfect otherwise it just doesn't go well.

What is the emoji which best describes you at the moment?

The emoji that best describes me at the moment would be, what's the one with the cross eyed, and the tongue hangs out?

Why? I don't know. It's funny. It's my favorite one.

What would be the title of your autobiography?

My autobiography, that would mean that I was writing it so it would probably be, Life with Me. What would you most like to be remembered for?

I would most like to be remembered for being a kind hard working person.

Favorite look from today's shoot?

Oh my God. I think my favorite look today, was the all latex, because I've never worn so much latex. I don't think that I've ever worn latex pants, plus the hat, plus the top. I mean, it was on another level.

Q&A How would you describe your Instagram feed?

I would say it has a theme. I love to post blue and pink colors and also to add night time photos with flash.

What do you love most about being a social media Influencer?

The traveling part is super fun, and being able to meet new people and explore new places. Also it’s not a typical 9-5 job, so I love being able to work from everywhere.

What do you think your fans and followers love most about you?

The fact that I always show myself. I never pretend to be someone else or to make myself more loveable. I’ve used to film vlogs every day every other month for 2 years and I think my fans saw the real me in those clips.

What do you think creates your most engaging posts?

I really can't say. Now with this new algorithm everything changed. But I guess it's always a photo that is different than what's going on on my feed at the moment. If I post 20 photos, it’s the flash one which will have most likes.

How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you?

Romantic. I cry a lot and I’m very down to earth and realistic.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

I cry a lot. Almost every day.

Sometimes because of a movie, sometimes because I see a puppy on the street alone.. I just think it's important not to keep emotions inside.

Where do you currently live?

I am figuring that part out. I was in Belgium for 2 years, in France 6 months, and now I am back home in Serbia but I wont stay here for long.

Last book you read.

One of the Nora Roberts books! I LOVE her!

What's the most incredible location that you've traveled to?

I think my favorite place was Turks and Caicos! I would suggest that everyone to go there! Also the Maldives were amazing!

What's the most challenging part of your career?

The fact that I am kind of a celebrity back home, and it's not something that I ever wanted, it just happened.

So when I am here I really need to be careful- where I go and what I do.

Also with the press, the gossip part of it is very intimidating.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

I hate chewing sounds and I hate when I see stickers on a product. I never buy something if there is a price sticker on it.

What is the one word that you live by?

It's more of a quote: “I believed I could so i did.”

What is the coolest thing that you've ever done in your life?

Wrote a book and made a perfume!

What is the last country you visited?

Germany!

What is a country you wish to visit?

Australia is No. 1 on my wish list and Japan!

What is your favorite fashion trend of all time?

Dresses with bare legs and boots!

What is your must-have beauty product from the Pixi by Petra line?

I use their glow toner for years now and it is in my daily routine!

What did you love most about the L’Agence pieces you wore on the trip?

The emerald green jumpsuit is now one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe! The material is so nice and it looks perfect when you wear it!

I was really surprised with their pieces.

I hadn’t heard of the brand before but when I went on the website it instantly became one of my go-to websites!

I love their colors, the fact that material is thick but not too heavy that you can't wear them in summer time!

What did you love most about your Mode Around The Globe Getaway?

Aruba was amazing! Meeting the flamingos was definitely my favorite thing about this trip!

Why do you think it’s important to connect with other Influencers?

I think when you talk with other influencers and see how they think it motivates you a lot! I always go back home afterwards full of ideas!

What is your latest project?

I am working on something new for fall and i can't wait to share it with all of you!

What is something you would like to be remembered for?

I never actually thought about that!

I will get back on this in the next interview. LOL! Why do you love Modeliste magazine?

I can’t even explain how much I love to travel with Modeliste. The people are great, the organization is amazing and we always go on such a cool adventures! The magazine looks super nice, and Modeliste creates unreal photos for editorials. Overall it’s such a nice publication to read!

Most memorable career moment that you've had so far.

I would say my book launch at the book fair 3 years ago.

I had a huge signing and my book was number 1 selling book that year. Such an amazing experience!

Q&A How would you describe your Instagram feed?

It’s my personal mix of fashion, travel and beauty pictures and tips. At the same time it is my portfolio of the campaigns I do for brands. All in a warm atmosphere and curated edition, I take care of the individual posts as well as the global feed itself.

What do you love most about being a social media Influencer?

The most exciting part is to be able to choose what I want to do next.

If I feel I would like to travel I’ll accept one of the job proposals I have received involving travel or my team will organize a separate trip for me to create content. Do I feel that I need to be some time at home? I’ll only take on jobs which I can produce in my own city. Do I want to attend fashion shows? I’ll go to fashion weeks. Would I prefer to skip fashion weeks and go to a beach paradise to create content there? Let’s go to Tulum ;) Do I want to produce a video? Do I want to vlog my Summer on stories? Do I want to disconnect all the Summer? I can do it.

But this is also the most challenging part. Every decision has consequences.

Every time I get a job, I have to decline others. So for me, at this moment of my career, is all about strategy. I work only with brands that I really love and I travel only with people that I love or that I would really love to meet.

What do you think your fans and followers love most about you?

First of all my style, because it’s so easy to copy and versatile. I’m more focused on working with luxury brands but in my daily life and pictures I mix them with a lot of low cost clothes.

I give budget options on my blog Mesvoyagesaparis.com and I know that my fans love this (because they are always telling me). I’m just a normal girl that has been able to live her dreamed life. I’m a very positive person, of course a dreamer and a hard worker. I love that this inspire others.

What do you think creates your most engaging posts?

Intuition. I know when a picture has that something.

But sometimes the most engaging posts come when I write a long or meaningful text or when a picture suddenly speaks by itself. Also, my followers are always telling me that they love my edition on Instagram and my Blog.

How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you?

As a dreamer and believer, a very passionate person and hard worker.

Also very romantic and emotional.

Where do you currently live.

Between Barcelona (Spain) and Los Angeles Last book you read.

You will laugh but is a cooking book to prepare the most delicious desserts. I’m trying more than ever to find activities to disconnect from my routine. And I love sweet food, so…

Most memorable career moment that you've had so far.

My first runway I walked, that was at the very beginning of my blogging time, in Madrid Fashion Week, the most important one in my country.

I won a street style contest among thousand people and that fashion show appeared on all TV channels, it was crazy for me because at that time I was blogging only for months! I will never forget that moment. Also, the Cannes Red Carpet that I walked for the first time this year with L’Oréal Paris and Chopard. Another dream come true ;) What's the most incredible location that you've traveled to?

I will never forget the 2 years I lived in the Mayan Riviera, near Tulum, and then also Thailand, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Cuba, Marrakech, Santorini, Aruba… Venice and Paris are two of my most favorite places to visit, especially when I go with my husband. They are some of the most romantic places in the world!

What's the most challenging part of your career?

First, to be able to find your place in this Industry and when you do it, to be aware of new things happening in this world and knowing how to move forward while keeping your place.

As I was telling you before, the freedom I have to choose my jobs is also the most challenging part.

What's your vice?

Red and green tea.

What is the one word that you live by?

Passion.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

People that speak loud in planes and trains.

What is the coolest thing that you've ever done in your life?

Being able to live the life I imagined for me.

What is the last country you visited?

Aruba.

What is a country you wish to visit?

Australia.

What is your favorite fashion trend of all time?

Denim.

What is your must-have beauty product from the Pixi by Petra line?

The Makeup Fixing Mist with rose water and green tea, so refreshing and effective!!

What did you love most about the L’Agence pieces you wore on the trip?

Their fit is just perfect.

What was your favorite SILKNY piece?

That maxi dress with a big ruffle I featured on my Instagram.

Why do you love shopping on the Vici site?

Pictures are so inspiring and you can really imagine how the clothes will look in real life.

What do you think makes the LILYBOD yoga and activewear pieces so unique?

Their fit is amazing, it’s very motivating to see you in those clothes.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

I was a figure skater on ice for 10 years and was competing.

In my country, we don’t have a huge support for this figure skating so when I was in my second year at university, I stopped training. I think those years gave me a discipline that I’m so thankful for today. If I wanted to have a perfect double lutz, I had to train for hours, fall, get up and repeat until it was perfect. I always remember that on my daily life. I still cry when I see figure skating on TV. Ah, and I do remember how to do many moves!

What did you love most about your Mode Around The Globe Getaway?

Being with such an amazing group of people. I travel a lot but is not easy to feel like in family as I feel when I travel with Modeliste. Modeliste Editor-in-Chief, Amy McCabe, is the best when it comes to make yourself feel comfortable and having the freedom to create your content in the way you believe it will have the best result. And of course the destinations are always the best ones!!

Why do you think it’s important to connect with other Influencers?

Because 1+1 is not 2, is much more.

Sharing communities of followers is very important to grow and also knowing in person people you have been following around on social media is amazing. The main goal of Social Media, at the beginning, was to connect people, so I think it is important to have that part in mind.

What is your latest project?

We are working on something big but you will see it in a few months.

What is something you would like to be remembered for?

For being a good person.

Why do you love Modeliste magazine?

It is one of the most inspiring magazines I know. The printed magazine itself is for me like a coffee table book, so beautiful and luxurious. The combination of fashion, beauty and travel is amazing. Best editorials, best pictures, best insider tips, best brands‌ and traveling with you is my favorite part :)

Q&A How would you describe your Instagram feed?

It’s ever changing! I like not sticking up to one single aesthetic since I am a very eclectic person and I get inspiration from so many different things. If anything I never plan my feed.

What do you love most about being a social media Influencer?

Getting to connect with people all over the world. I love getting to know my followers (I would rather call them potential friends that I never met haha!) and being able to share what inspires me and inspiring others somehow. I also love all the experiences I’ve been through thanks to my instagram, blog and YouTube! I never thought I would be able to travel the world and meeting so many incredible people.

What do you think creates your most engaging posts?

It depends. Sometimes it's just an outfit, hair and makeup with a plain background and sometimes it's a beautiful gorgeous setting and scenery.

How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you?

I might not smile on my pictures often but I swear I am a nice person! I am strong minded but dorky at the same time. I just don’t take myself too seriously and always love to help others.

Sometimes it's very hard for me to say no, and I always want to make everyone happy. I also might be a little shy at first.

I loved everything about the trip. It was a much needed getaway to take a break from the city. Those Aruba sunsets were so therapeutic .

Because they plan the most amazing getaways with the coolest most inspiring girls. I’ve met so many new friends.

What do you think your fans and followers love most about you?

I honestly have no idea. But if anything, I always share my viewpoint, personal style or whatever I share in a very relatable approach.

I like to show I am a real person and anyone can achieve their dreams by sticking to their guts. I never intend to be an “aspiration” but just inspire others and also making friends!

Q&A What inspired you to become an Influencer?

I really liked taking photos and getting my photos taken. So I was always trying to get photos of my outfit for the day to post back when Instagram started!

How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you?

I’m a crazy cat mom, I love fashion and wearing crazy outfits I create, country music and two stepping, roller skating at the disco, the ocean and Mexican food! I love to go on adventures but look good while I do it!

I grew up fishing and hunting with my dad on the weekends, riding motorcycles and playing in the dirt!

Not much of a reader, probably Nicholas Sparks to be honest!

What's the most challenging part of your career?

Definitely making time for myself. I tend to work all hours of the day and never relax. It has helped me a lot in furthering my career, but it takes a toll on my mental health.

I would have to say Cook Islands was one of the prettiest places I have ever been. The bluest water you could ever imagine!

The resort was beautiful! Right on the beach and the hotel staff was so accommodating! They even had free rental bikes to ride on around the property and explore!

I love sewing!! I used to make all my dresses for dances, pillows for my house, and I used to make curtains for FBI undercover vans in college What is one talent that you wish you had?

Q&A What inspired you to become an Influencer?

Becoming an ‘influencer’ per se was never my goal. I started my blog as a creative outlet when I was working in Marketing. I wanted to learn photography and I was way more into fashion back then, so it was a great platform to combine the two.

How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you?

Hmm I’ll use a bunch of adjectives here: Impulsive, Friendly, Social, Personable, Disorganized, Late, Busy, Happy, Laid-Back, Stressed (haha depends on the day), Tequila, Wine, Tacos.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Growing up I played ice hockey at the highest level I could. I received a full scholarship to Ohio State, but never took it.

Where do you currently live?

Toronto, for now.

Keeping everything in perspective and not comparing what you’re doing to others.

What inspired you to become an Influencer?

Honestly I never actually thought about it, for me it just happened. I started my blog and YouTube channel to get out of the dark place in my life and Instagram actually came few years later so for most of the time I was being called a blogger. Now it is a different story since I don't write my blog amy more but I do different things so nowadays it is an influencer. But I think that when you see other girls in our community rocking you get really inspired!

How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you?

Lazy, never late and always on my phone!

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

That I am always on time or 5 minutes early! I hate the feeling when I am late and I just can’t be. Even when I want to be, I find myself always ready in time. It’s crazy! No one around me gets how I do it.

I am currently reading Sidney Sheldon - The silent Widow!

What's the most challenging part of your career?

Oh there are a lot of challenges!

Everyone thinks our job is super easy, but the fact is we are working 24/7. It is always something. On top of that I think the worst part is when you have to post a photo and it just doesn't wanna be taken. The light is not good, you look bad, you can't edit it well or you send it for approval and they want something different. For me that is the worst par, mostly if I filmed a video!

What’s is one word that you live by?

LOVE! - I would do anything for my better half and risk it all.

Handbags and sneakers!

What is one talent that you wish you had?

I would really love to know to be a good singer! Not for a career, but just for me!

Mexico was one of the best trips this year for me and the hotel was amazing!

Fall is amazing and I love to wear boots with long sleeves and bare legs! It is my all time favorite trend!

Sleep with a mask on the plane and you will have amazing skin after the flight! Also, put anti-blemish cream so that you don't get spots during it!

What advice do you have to young aspiring Influencers today?

I think when we started no one actually thought about money, we didn't even know you could earn from it. Now everyone just wants to do it because of it so they are not free care and they have strategies and plans. I thinks followers feel that and you need to be super relaxed and yourself in order to make it!

What is your latest project?

I am working on two things actually.

First, I signed a new contract for my third book and I am so excited to start writing it! Second, my lipstick will be coming out in few months. We have been working very hard on the formula and I was never 100% happy, but now I think we are super close!

What was your favorite part of Modeliste Mode Around The Globe Getaway?

I just love being around everyone from Modeliste. Logan Hill made amazing photos, the girls on the trip were super cool and friendly, we didn't go snorkeling (so I was super happy about that!) and overall we had really good time!

This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with women across generations, women reviving lost ancient Mayan arts in pottery now restored by archaeologists studying the process and symbolism, traditional weaving, natural food preparations, promoting education, financial empowerment, teaching traditions to share and remind younger generations of their rich heritage. Side by side we worked the clay as the archaeologists have shown the ancient Mayans did, polishing without a glaze, painting hieroglyphics, traditional designs and some inserts of creativity, and the art of Mayan kiln firing. Experience grinding corn with mano and metate to appreciate the skill and the amazing difference in tortillas made fresh on the outdoor wood burning stove camal skillet. These memories are gifts; interacting and supporting their women initiatives is inspiring.

There is a passion and pride that resonates at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel.
