Modeliste has always been a place where you can recharge your spirit, mind and heart. To that end, this issue is no exception as we focus on Inspiration- those inspiring forces which lie within each of us as well as with those who continue to collectively inspire us all. This month’s Cover Star, Diane Guerrero is a true inspiration. In her book, In the Country We Love: My Family Divided, Diane Guerrero shares the compelling story of her childhood with immigrant parents from Colombia who initially entered the US on a visitor visa but became undocumented, working toward legal permanent residency, working menial jobs and their struggles always living with anxiety and fear. Diane’s story is that of love and loss, trauma, hope and utilizing education as opportunity overcoming mind boggling obstacles.
It is my goal that sharing these stories of hope, courage, resilience and determination will create a dialogue of compassion and empathy while ultimately paving a path to finding and using our own voice to continue to inspire one another.

Poised, absolutely stunning and glowing with a refreshing sense of optimism and confidence, Diane Guerrero graces the Cover of this month’s Modeliste. hen Diane was born July 21, 1986, in the US she received citizenship guaranteed by the 14th Amendment, but her parents were tenuous and their lives in the underground community, moving, seeking work. First her mother was deported, she returned and eventually, when Diane was 14, May 17, 2001, both parents were taken while she was at school and deported. No one ever checked that their daughter, a US citizen, was left without a family.
Your personal story told in your remarkable book, In the Country We Love: My Family Divided, documents your childhood as the American born daughter of undocumented immigrants from Colombia, their deportation when you were 14, your struggles and challenges. Your story is so compelling and revealing and particularly relevant in this emotional time of family separations at our southern borders and the plight of the children.
Her saga reveals a resiliency through the emotional trauma of separation, the opportunity provided by Boston Arts Academy high school. Her opportunities grew and she was able to begin college to pursue a law degree. But her heart was in performance, singing and acting.
Would you like to comment on your extraordinary personal journey and your remarkable resilience that has lead to your success?
“Emotional wellness is a First World Luxury. Living in Underground reality but ambitious following dream. Cycle of poverty and low expectations, American Dream feels pretty unreachable, kids give up on themselves.”
In 2010 she discovered, “you don't choose your life's work, it chooses you. When she finally gave in to the major pull the performing arts has always had on me... she found that was all she could think of, excitement in life. I had the distinct pleasure of chatting with Diane, and this is what I learned.

Everyone has the ability to make the most of a difficult situation. Some have more help than others. I persevered in times when I didn’t have help. And I recognized help when it presented itself. It’s my hope that we can provide more help to those in need to empower them to achieve their own success. What do you hope your story does for people and what messages can people expect to receive from the book? You are an inspiration to so many in similar circumstances. Do you have any words to share with Modeliste readers and the children taken from their parents? I’ve only ever hoped that my story brings to light the humanity at the core of the immigration problems in our country and around the world. Immigration is not just an “issue.” It’s a reality that millions of people face as they try to improve their lives, as well as when economies grow and there is increased demand for work. At the center of all of that are individual lives, and I just want people to recognize that as we work out a solution. You also wrote in your book that back in 2010 you discovered the concept that - “You don't choose your life's work, it chooses you.” What inspired you to get into acting?
What inspired me to get into acting was the recognition that I’m a storyteller. I wanted to represent the truth. As a child who had to hide who she was, I’ve always aspired to tell the truth – whether that was mine or someone else’s. I’ve always wanted to be free. As you inspire others to follow their dreams, can you share your tools or strategies to maintain your spirit and optimism, even with setbacks? Nothing is really a setback. It’s all notes. It all goes toward the constant improvement process. I think about moments of triumph and I know that they’re attainable; just because you’re not batting 1000 doesn’t mean you won’t hit a couple home runs. You landed a role for the show Orange is the New Black which has become a huge hit. What was your favorite part about being part of the show? I love being in a show that tells real stories about real women, these stories reflect our community. I loved being in a cast of so many talented women. What is the last book you read? Rebecca Solnit, Mother of All Questions How would you describe yourself to people who don't know you? I’m spontaneous – I hate planning and I won’t remember your birthday. But I love my family and friends and I guess I’m sometimes also kind of quiet and understated. What is something people would be surprised to know about you? I really enjoy my time at home. I like having my friends over – I am the “Hostess with the Most-ess”! Watching your work and appreciating your journey is so impressive. What is the most memorable career moment that you've had so far? I don’t think I’ll have that until much later in my career

What is the coolest thing that you've ever done in your life? Saying yes to myself – allowing myself to pursue my dreams. What is your favorite fashion trend of all time? I don’t love fashion trends. I believe we should wear whatever we want – I just love fashion and self-expression.
Best advice you’ve ever received? Don’t doubt yourself. If you’re consistently great at 100 things, you may fixate on failing at 1 thing, but we need to remember our consistent greatness.
Why does that matter to you? Because I care to be a positive example for others who are constantly told no. People will always say “no,” but we have to be the ones to say yes.
What is your must-have beauty product? My Fenty Glow Lipgloss. Smells like candy. What is an emoji that best encapsulates who you are? The drooling one. You have an adorable pup named Penny! How would you describe Penny in 3 words. Best. Pup. Ever. You also cut your hair short this year- was that a hard decision for you or do you enjoy switching up your style? I enjoy switching up my style; I love trying new things. I’m never stuck to one version of myself. What do you like to do when you’re not working? Not work. At all. What is one place you have never been that you would love to travel to? India If you could offer a piece of advice to yourself at age 15, what would it be? Educate yourself, and never be afraid to use your voice.

I just got cast on Doom Patrol, a DC Universe comic. I’ll be playing Crazy Jane, who has 64 different personalities and a superpower that comes with each one. I’m excited for the challenge. What do you love the most about Modeliste magazine? The art direction is always absolutely inspiring. Why are you excited to be our next Cover Star? C’mon, who doesn’t want to be a cover star, babyyyyy? But also I want to share with my readers that my book My Family Divided is now available for middle grade readers. Protect Your Skin By Implementing These Essential Summer Skincare Basics 30

ummer is here! This means extended fun-time outdoors exposing more skin to the sun. Summer is the long awaited time of the year to schedule vacations to sunny and exotic destinations, to lounge around at the beach or the pool wearing your favorite swimming suit without thinking much about daily tensions. Dr. Schweitzer cautions that it is important to take a few steps to protect your beautiful skin from the damaging UV rays.
WEAR a large brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes. PROTECT your pout! Whatever your color choice, look for lip balm instead of gloss as it will stay on longer and hydrate your lips. Choose an SPF of 15 or higher and re-apply as needed.
IN THE KNOW: UV AND YOUR SKIN
Dr. Schweitzer explains that “your skin is the largest organ of your body, it covers you entirely and acts as a shield against sunlight, injury, and infection.” Over-exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds or sun lamps is the number one cause of skin cancer. Additionally, our love affair with sunbathing can bring about premature aging, spots, wrinkles and leathery skin. Sunlight contains both visible and invisible rays or waves: long waves are harmless to our skin and shorter waves like UV light rays can penetrate deeper into the skin. UV rays can cause problems on our skin’s delicate processes which affect the health and appearance of the skin. The skin becomes less elastic, wrinkled, leathery, or even thin as tissue paper.
NOURISH YOUR SKIN
Your diet plays a large role in promoting your skin’s ability to maintain its natural moisture. Include foods that are rich in essential fatty acids which are commonly found in salmon, flax seeds, walnuts, and olive oil. A healthy diet that includes three to five servings a week of these essential fatty acids will aid in reducing red, flaky, dry skin. Include some Chia in your diet. These wonderful seeds contain high levels of Omega-3 which your body needs but it does not produce. Omega-3's help keep skin hydrated.
FACE THE SUN
We all love that Summer feeling but as the heat increases your skin takes a high toll. Sun protection is a must!
A daily dose of the right sunscreen is a critical step in your skin care routine. There are advanced sunscreen formulas which combine powerful protection with an almost weightless feel so your makeup goes on silky smooth.
APPLY a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher and contains titanium dioxide, zinc, mexoryl SX, avobenzone. These ingredients provide excellent sun protection and are not absorbed into the skin. Not all sunscreens are created equal and not all ingredients are innocent! RE-APPLY sunscreen approximately every two hours and immediately after swimming or sweating. Be extra cautious when you are near water, concrete, or sand as they reflect and intensify sun rays. Don’t forget your hands, neck, ears, and feet as they can burn without protection. SEEK SHADE when available. The

Must $120 What inspired you to create the line? Growing up in Morocco I was brought up in an ancient and rich culture of beauty where colors and textures never ceased to ignite my imagination. Throughout the years and my various travels around the globe, my sense of beauty and style grew to become more defined and assertive. My quest was one of distinction and originality. The Moroccan/Indian mix that gave birth to Kimys Bag came as a revelation when I discovered India with all its promise and beauty. The warm colors and originality of our designs are a testimony to these two ancient cultures. Countries where exoticism joins simplicity and where contrast is as common as the most unusual pairings. Kimys bag is one of creativity and quality simply. Creating fun and unique handmade bags using mosaics and natural materials benefitting from an ancient lineage of Moroccan and Indian artisans who take pride in their craft. Their knowledge and craftsmanship is where I draw my inspiration. What makes your designs so unique and innovative? My bags are handmade so naturally each is unique, each mosaic is cut differently and placed with care by talented artisans. 54

The best advice I ever had was from my brother, he once told me that if I wanted something bad enough, I have to go for it and make it happen, and if that sounds difficult, it means that I don’t want it enough.

How did you originally get into blogging/being an influencer?

Well, I went on a TV show called 'The Bachelor', haha for a very brief period of time and came out with 40 thousand followers. From there I just started posting things I liked, wore clothes I like etc and before you know it ....
I’m loving Garnier Glycolic Acid peel wipes. I swear by them right now and use them every night! I swear it's keeping my skin clear right now.

If I had to pick one label though, I'd say Reformation! What are your favorite skincare tips when traveling? Ok, I have this down to a fine art after learning the hard way. Makeup free on planes ladies. I use a rosewater mist of hydrating mist whilst on the flight, at the moment I'm loving TATCHA Collagen eye mask for the under eyes. It’s also super important. 66

How would you describe your personal style?
Where do you plan to travel to next?
Colorful, trendy, with a vintagebohemian twist. Where do you get inspiration for your pictures? I seriously get my inspiration everywhere, from a movie to nature to just driving around in LA. Lately I’ve been so inspired by traveling and the beautiful places I’ve been. I try to create content that’s different, and I put my personality in every photo, sponsored or not. What is something that your followers probably don't know about you? I was born in Belgium, my birth name is Rosemary and I’ve been disliking my name since I was a kid, so Rose (Roos in Dutch) it is.
What's your favorite cocktail? Skinny spicy margarita.
Tulum is first up What's your favorite thing to do when you're not working? Watching Netflix and cuddling with my hubby and pom Olaf. What was your favorite Pixi Beauty product? The toner and lip gloss! I’ve been using the toner for years and it’s my absolute fave. The lipgloss was a new discovery. What did you like most about Zemi Beach House? Everyone was so nice!! The hotel felt like one big family home. The interior design was just beautiful, so much eye for detail. The food was absolutely delicious! Definitely gained a few pounds during our stay.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Flying. A cliché, I know, but ever since I saw Peter Pan this has been my ultimate superpower dream.

Erinn will be one of the stars of the new Netflix series “Insatiable” set to premiere in August. A show about a disgraced, dissatisfied civil lawyerturned-beauty pageant coach takes on a vengeful, bullied teenager as his client and has no idea what he's about to unleash upon the world! Erinn stars as “Magnolia Barnard” one of the girls on the pageant circuit that isn’t as sweet as she seems… Born in New York and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Erinn is the perfect byproduct of both big city life and quaint Midwestern charm. Erinn is a talented actress, singer, model, as well as an on-air personality and writer. Erinn’s media career began as an undergraduate at Harvard University, where she majored in English, American Literature and Language. She also received a secondary degree in Dramatic Arts and an advanced certification in Spanish. Erinn is perhaps best known for her multi-recurring roles on FOX’s “Glee” where she starred as “Bree,” the captain of the Cheerios, MTV’s “Awkward,” as the tennis star and over-achiever, ‘Gabby Richards.’ and most recently had a recurring role on CW’s “Jane the Virgin.” In-between her television and film endeavors, Erinn is in the studio recording. Fans can expect music in early 2019. Modeliste sat down with this It-Girl and got the scoop on what it’s really like to be on-set, her favorite item in her closet right now and what we can look forward to with her latest projects,

How would you describe your personal fashion style? It really depends on the day. My style is super eclectic. I like to mix and match things that wouldn't ordinarily be paired together. Today I'm wearing a mini lace romper (love a good onesie!), an oversized, vintage denim jacket and Valentino rock-studded sandals. I love finding pieces that are versatile and that can be dressed up or down.

Where did you grow up? I was born in New York but raised in St. Louis. Honestly, I loved it. St. Louis is pretty serene, relatively slow-paced and relaxed, and for the most part, Midwesterners are as friendly as people say they are. Also, there is so much beautiful landscape in Missouri! I had such a great childhood. I find any excuse to go back home to visit. What or who originally got you into acting? I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to do what I’m doing now. Some of my earliest memories are of me performing in some way, shape or form. I loved playing dress up and putting on shows in the living room for anyone who would watch. It was just something that I really enjoyed doing and that seemed to come naturally to me. I do remember expressing this to my parents from a very young age and they were always really supportive. I had a dress up box with so many cool costumes and I remember going to a “Shakespeare for Kids” camp when I was like 8. When I was in middle school, I tried out for the sixth grade play, "Annie." Back in those days, the sixth grade play was a big deal, let me tell ya'! I got the part which is, to this day, a moment I consider a huge milestone. That role and performance reaffirmed my interest and commitment to acting. You are set to star in an upcoming show on Netflix called, Insatiable. Can you tell us what it's about and the role you play on the show? Insatiable is a dark, twisted, revenge comedy. The show centers on a teenage girl, Patty Bladell (played by Debby Ryan), who sets out to get revenge on every person who bullied her when she was overweight. The backdrop for the show is the Southern beauty pageant world. Cue big hair and big drama! I play Magnolia Barnard. She is Patty's main competition in the pageant world... and in life. She is the epitome of the perfect pageant princess. From the clothes she wears, to the family she comes from, it really seems like she has it all. But, things aren’t always as perfect as they seem... (dun, dun, dunnn!). What is the most challenging part about playing your character? The show is a true dramedy, so while so many of the scenes are dealt with 90

comedy, we really do delve into some serious issues. Magnolia is no different from every other character on the show in that she has her own demons and problems with which she is dealing. Getting into that headspace was challenging. What parts of your character on the show do you relate to the most? Oh man, that’s a tough one. So much of “teenage Erinn” relates to Magnolia. I think in high school we were all just figuring it out. Magnolia, in so many ways, is trying to discover who she is and what she wants out of life. She’s on a journey of self-discovery that I would say I’ve been through. I admire Magnolia’s drive and determination. She goes after what she wants. I can relate to that. Lastly, she is super fashionable (seriously, we had so much fun pulling together all her outfits). I can totally relate to Magnolia’s love of a good wardrobe! What's a typical day like on set? Call times vary from day-to-day, but when I arrive, I drop off my stuff in my trailer and head to hair and makeup. It’s FULL glam, so that normally takes the team about 2 hours. While I’m in the chair, I eat breakfast (French toast on wheat + hot tea is my go-to order), review my lines or talk to my cast mates who are going through the works at the same time. Then, I head back to my trailer to change and soon after that I get to work! Sometimes, I’ll just have to shoot one scene, other times, I’m in all day. It just depends. If it’s a long day, you can expect to see me at crafty multiple times. There are so many good snacks on set at all times. What do you like to do when you're not working? I hang out with my family, fiancé and friends a ton. Filming on location means I’m away from most of the important people in my life so when I’m not working, I tend to spend a lot of time with them. I love being active! Hiking and dance fitness are my favorite workouts. And I love to travel and write. I'm always writing... in a journal or on my laptop. When doing your makeup, do you prefer a more natural look or full glam? Natural. I’m a firm believer in “less is more.” On a typical day out with friends,
you’ll probably catch me with foundation or tinted moisturizer and a lip gloss. Maybe mascara. What is your current most favorite item in your closet? Probably my white and blue gingham flats from Manolo Blahnik. They're super fashionable but also really casual and playful and have been a great staple so far this summer. What are your favorite colors to wear currently? This summer you’ll see me in a lot of bright colors and girly patterns (eg. electric florals) paired with vintage denims. What are your three most favorite apps on your phone? TheSkimm, MindBody, Postmates. If you had one superpower, what would it be? Teleportation, for sure! In LA, I'm always running around for auditions and meetings, and there is so much traffic. I feel like I waste so much time in the car. I also travel a lot (I spend more than half the month in NYC), and it would be so great to be able to get from coast to coast instantly. Not to mention, I could see family and friends around the world so much more often. Do you have any exciting projects coming up that you can share with us? All 12 episodes of Insatiable will come out later this summer on Netflix. The show will be released globally (in over 190 countries!), so that's really exciting. They're announcing the official premiere date soon, so be on the lookout for that. Aside from this show, I do have another exciting project in the works that I'm hoping to announce sooner rather than later. Stay tuned! What do you love most about Modeliste Magazine? I love the beauty and fashion tips and product direction. Every time I read Modeliste, I find something new that I want to try.
