Photographer: Bożena Dziąbor

Can you tell us a little about you? Hello, my name is Bożena and I am a photographer f rom Poland. I am a German philologist by education, but art, fine arts, paint ing and photography are my great passions. Since I was a child, I have always dreamed of working in art professionall y. Thankfully dreams came true and now I can finall y do what I truly love. And it's wonderful…

How and when did you get into photography? I have always taken photos ever y where, the camera has always been at hand, especially since the birth of my chil dren. For a long time I used simple compact cameras that were ver y convenient for me, because they were ver y easy to use but ver y soon I felt they began to limit me . I felt that their simplicity was not enough. And finally, 2017, I decided to do something for myself, for my soul and I spent the savings on the first camera – Canon 6D and 85 l ens, many courses and trainings and … I got crazy a bout it. I have been fascinated with photography ever since. B ut I still feel that I need more knowledge and expe rience.

What does photography mean to you? It's my whole world now. I think photographically, I look photographically, I constantly discover the possibilities of light an d colors. Photography is the art of seeing , noticin g and a huge field for creativity. It is an absolutely magical world.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers. It's a hard question. I think it is easier for peo ple to judge my artistic style. When I asked my dear fr iend to describe my photos she defined it as fine-a rt and retro photography.

Where do you get inspiration from? Inspiration comes unexpectedly at different times and in different places. Sometimes an item in the store may awaken my imagin ation, sometimes it's a music video, sometimes it's a frame from a movie or a song. Of course, an amazing source of inspiration is the internet and other ph oto-graphers' publications.

Do you think in advance what you want in the pictur e? Always. First there is a plan, a vision, a photo i s created in my mind. I am not a reportage photographer. I do n't like catching moments at celebrations or events . I like to plan frames, visit places where the session is goin g to take place. I like to create a base for the se ssion in my mind. However not ever y thing can be fully planned. Sometimes the idea turns out to be wrong , and somet imes a wonderful frame might be created, different from the previously planned one. And these are wonderful pho-tographic surprises.

Studio, on location or both? During these few years of intense work, I really l ove the portrait. I love both – the studio and outdoor portrait - and it would be reall y hard for me to say which of them is my favourite one.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid pr ofessional? Photography has been my hobby for a long time and is still a wonderful passion, but at the s ame time I do a lot of sessions for clients, so bot h terms fit me. However, I need to add that I’m always tr ying to fi nd a little time to broaden my horizons and accompl ish the goals that I set for myself.

What has been your most memorable session and why? Each photo session is an unique experience and a challenge for me. I prepare myself thoroughly for e ach one. Each session is ver y emotional, wheater it a session with a child or an adult. However, I do not think I would be able to point out this particular session that affected me the most.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens? Canon. I have been a Canon R6 owner for several mo nths - I fell in love with it almost immediately! My favorite lens is the Sigma A rt 105.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own busi ness? Listen to what your heart tells you. Appreciate you r talent - not ever yone has it, so you need to take advanta-ge of it. And act! Get out of your comfort zone and tr y! Learn from your mistakes! Do not give up! Sea rch and discover!

What do you think of our new magazine? A great idea, new opportunities for artists and a wonderful source of inspiration. And here I would like to thank you ver y much for inviting me to take part in this inte r view. Thank you for showing my art work to your readers.
