he rising of 110 leading fashion designers in unison at the Wills Lifestyle Indian Fashion Week S/S 2010 (WIFW) has definitely lifted the cloud in the minds of the International fashion world. Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI has worked relentlessly to pave this way to ensure a steady stream of International buyers to grace this fashion platform, for years to come. WIFW, in combination with the FDCI family’s new fashion conglomerates, Van Heusen India Mens Fashion Week and HDIL India Couture Week, has indeed become the largest fashion platform of India. Not only the associated fashion designers but also our ‘national coffers’ will be the beneficiaries of this everlasting endeavour of Sunil’s futuristic vision. What is heartening is that in the process, many Gen-X designers have been included to showcase their talent for the first time this season. A systematic progression has begun. The need of the hour now is to find a remedy for the regional fashion outbursts, which do tend to destabilise these efforts at the national level. No doubt, more talent comes to the fore, but then, let these be called ‘Festivals’ and not be confused with the terminology of ‘Fashion Weeks’, at the national level. The WIFW aftermath had Rohit Bal being dubbed as ‘arrogant’ and ‘ungentlemanly’. Arre bhai, if you falsely accuse somebody, then do expect some backlash yaar. The media spiced it up with a certain boutique designer, claming rights to the pioneer usage of the ‘National Lotus’. Well that’s one way of getting attached to the WIFW(FDCI) by using the media as a ‘warring zone’. Kya idea hai! In any case, Rohit is too amazing a designer, who continues to mesmerise the fashionistas with each and every collection. In this issue, we bring you the stars, who glowed the ramp with their presence during various fashion weeks held this season. Being the time for nuptial knots, we have also highlighted ‘bridal fashion’ by some of our top fashion designers. Our website www.modelsntrends.com continuously features entertainment news, events happening in the fashion and glamour world; prêt and couture collections of world class fashion designers; lifestyle collections of exclusive Indian and International fashion brands; a very large gallery of models with their profile and photo shoots; and a monthly E-magazine (exact replica of our printed magazine with the added advantage that you can zoom in to see the finer details of any product), which is now thoroughly readable and you can feel each page come alive, as you flip through. Every month, across the world, we reach out to a target audience of over two million fashionistas through our magazine and website. You will be happy to know that our cover girl Pooja Misrra was the showstopper for designers Dhruv & Pallavi and looked stunning in her attire. This issue has supermodel Alisha Pekha ‘flying high’ in the fashion world. Thanks Alisha, for being by my side. Well, time to go my cool brethren, but do keep yourself warm during the chilly days ahead. Looking forward to a great new year with you. anup@modelsntrends.com

he name has something special, which gives that extra impetus to boost your fashionista adrenaline every time you think about it. Gucci’s refined Italian fashion and glamorous leather accessories epitomise an elevated status symbol.

The journey…

Gucci By Gucci Eau de Parfum

Frida Giannini's Spring Summer Collection

The label’s journey towards presiding over the fashion world started when its originator designer, Guccio Gucci, opened a high-priced leather goods store in Florence, Italy. He blended refined aesthetics of English nobility and the impeccable Italian charm in every product. As a result, the label started enticing sophisticated international

clientele, who yearned for grandeur, sophistication, excellence and style. With the passage of time, Gucci has been channelised through a groundbreaking mix of tradition and innovation. Earlier, creative director, Tom Ford (also known as ‘God of Gucci’), revamped the luxury brand. From stores to menswear and advertisements, he infused a spark in every part of the label to make it a symbol of modern luxury. The stiletto and silk cut-out jersey dresses with metallic hardware details became icons of Ford's unique futuristic creative vision. Today, Frida Giannini, creative director of Gucci, is successfully exploring new shapes, colours and product categories, while continuing to make it a legend in the fashion circle of Europe, America and Asia.

Gucci icons Flora: Flora is a multicoloured flowered template. Renowned illustrator Vittorio

Accornero designed the most loved icon of the label for the Princess Grace of Monaco, in 1966. After years, Frida Giannini revived the pattern on printed canvas bags, print dresses and jewellery.

The GG: Guccio Gucci’s initials were earlier used in the fastenings

of hand bags. Soon the monogram was deployed in innumerable designs like in silver and gold, luxurious velvet, embossed into leather, stamped onto suede and printed on silks for apparel and fashion accessories.

The horsebit: The pattern was first used on heavy tan leather saddle-

stitched handbags in 50’s. Since then, the horsebit has been miniaturised and maximised on leather suede and velvet; turned into repeat patterns printed on silk, shoes and sculpted into the components of precious jewellery.

Time keeping devices are defining new meanings of luxury and style statement in the form of premium watches. Unfettering old looks and technology, these new fashion accessories are luring the fashion loving young generation to utmost, writes RAAHUL SHARMA.

ime is precious and so are the watches of today. The sought after premium watches, not only signify a status symbol but also revolutionise a unique way to enhance one’s style statement. "Designer timepieces are a subtle way of augmenting a great outfit. They demonstrate urbanity and portray their owner as a sophisticated person. For example, Cartier timepieces are some of the most popular wristwatches amongst fashionistas. Wearing a luxury time instrument like this will surely help you to stand out on any occasion,” says model turned actor Sahil Shroff. India has a great potential to become the top luxury market. “The luxury watch market in India is estimated at about 200 crores, which is expected to grow at 25 per cent. With the number of high net worth individuals growing every year, this niche yet effective segment has tremendous potential,” explains Vandana Bhalla, Marketing Manager, Titan watches for women. Titan launched ‘Nebula’, a range of solid gold jewellery watches, about a decade ago with an intent to utilise the existing opportunities in the premium segment of watches. “Since then, it has evolved from being a gold jewellery substitute to an accessory, which complements jewellery and now we feel that there is immense potential in this category for Titan, since it already has the values of trust, tradition, design and premiumness, which are the dominant codes of this category,” explains Ms. Bhalla. Vasant Nagia, Country Manager, Fossil India Private Ltd. also feels that the Indian market and India’s fashion loving young generation are evolving and appealing premium watchmakers. “Watches have become more than a timekeeping device. In fact, now they are a vital part of escalating fashion accessories. The Indian watch market has become aware of international trends.” The luxury industry in India is still at a nascent stage. Ryoshin Tokunaga, MD-Marketing, Citizen Watches (India) Pvt. Ltd. relates this with the increasing awareness of today’s consumer, who is more focused on every aspect of the product. “He is

more aware of the different features and performance parameters that a product should come with. Be it quality parameters, looks and features, functionalities or performance. Even if it translates into shelling out more money, the consumers are not shying away,” explains Ryoshin Tokunaga. P.H. Narayanan, Brand Manager, Omega watches even presents a clearer picture of the core customer of these watches. “Men who have money can flaunt it by two means, wearing expensive watches and expensive pens, whereas women have many other accessories also to show off. So, the men typically don't mind spending a lot of money on their watches, as these directly represent their class and taste." Vasant also agrees with this. “Fossil has a large international portfolio of brands, apart from Fossil and DKNY. We design, manufacture and market the brands such as Emporio Armani, Adidas, Diesel, Burberry, Zodiac to name a few. Each brand introduces 3 to 4 collections per year and has its own distinct identity but the common design philosophy at the core of these brands is great design and quality at great value,” says Vasant Nagia. Titan, known for bringing innovation and new concepts to its creations, articulates the hidden desires of its customers through its collections. “We launch over 10 collections across brands in one year. Based on our periodical brand track studies, we read our consumer's desires and interests of what they want to adorn on their wrist and how they want to make a style statement by that time piece.” Time and again, Titan launches exclusive collections of watches for its discerning customers. Its Swiss watch brand, Xylys is targeted at those, who have an eye for style. Karishma Manga Bedi, Brand Manager, Dior watches depicts her clients as connoisseurs of these watches. “Those who aspire to own a Dior timepiece are individuals, who understand and appreciate luxury, design and the best quality craftsmanship,” avers Ms. Bedi. “Our star collection is the Dior Christal collection, which is

designed by John Galliano, the head designer for Dior Couture. New references are also launched every year within this collection as well as in the La D Dior & Chiffre Rouge collections. Dior watches has also launched the Dior Christal Tourbillon, which was our first foray into watch technicalities,” adds Ms. Bedi. Beyond its peers, Citizen watches launch 7 to10 new collections yearly on an average. Ryoshin Tokunaga of Citizen watches emphasises on constant market feedback, end - consumer interactions on chronic basis and market research, to understand consumer mindset in a precise way. “Simultaneous global launches with latest models, international feel exclusive outlets and reaching out to the consumers through correct media, are only a few examples of creating a ‘wow-factor’ for customers.” Premium watches have a tremendous appeal, which has transcended from both demographic and psychographic barriers. Their design philosophy narrates style with value and they are internationally sought after brands, which are reaching out to a wide audience. However in this quest, the branded players face many hurdles. “The main barrier is the level of duties. The total duties amount to a whopping 65 to 70 per cent of import cost, in addition to the 12.5 per cent VAT on selling price. This creates a major price differential between India and the rest of the world, and needs to be corrected,” emphasises Vasant Nagia. Ryoshin Tokunaga also indicates towards this point. “As all our watches are imported into India, one of the pain areas for us has been the high import duties and taxes. We believe that there should be more consideration given to the structure of duties and taxes. One also feels the need for better infrastructure and some technologies like ‘radio control’ should also be brought into

the country since Citizen is a leading brand in radio controlled watches, with high market share in Japan, USA, and Europe, where radio signal towers are available.” Apart from this, the rising price of retail spaces and escalating competition are also the key concerns of the premium watch retailers. Yet they are working extensively to strengthen their brands in India. “The current focus is on expanding relevant distribution and getting the right ambience to position the brand. We are looking at strengthening our front-end staffing, point of sale merchandising and so on. In fact, everything that enhances the customer experience,” says Vasant Nagia. On the other hand, Ryoshin Tokunaga emphasises on the launch of unparalleled product range. “I believe that ‘Customer is the King’. Therefore, our priority has always been to blend style with technology and launching impeccable range of products into the markets. We are also planning to introduce more number of exclusive showrooms and shop-inshop outlets to reach out and make our products available to more and more customers.” Rado, Omega, Rolex, Harry Winston, Tag Heuer, Cartier, Hugo Boss, Officini Panerai and many other hi-fi players in the segment are also aggressively launching their new collections in India. In India, we can easily detect the rising brandmania in our everyday life, where people are upgrading their lifestyle. They are more conscious about their appearance and want to create a class of their own. From head to toe, they want a perfect piece of art and these nascent fashion accessories provide them a chance to stand apart, due to their stunning blend of splendour, style and technology.

His garments represent the intrinsic value of Indian culture and his magnificent sense of designing (simple yet with an eye for every detail) are as engrossing as his simplicity, shyness and odesty. orn and brought up in Rajasthan, a land of royal majesty, immortal romance, exquisite art and culture, Rajesh has mingled all the exclusivity of the region in his creativity. Over the years, his unique signature style, which has been subtly drawn from his Indian roots and mixed well with global appeal, has been mesmerising lovers of refined clothing. So how did his tryst with fashion happen? “It was not preplanned,” says Rajesh. “Had I not been in fashion then I would have probably tried my hand at architecture or farming.” After his graduation from National Institute of Fashion Training (NIFT), Delhi, Rajesh started his fabulous journey in to the fashion world. He worked for two years in India and then got a chance to hone his talent in Italy with Marzotto s.p.a., a world leader in textile industry. This helped him to study more about the European fashion industry. Later on, he introduced his own line of women’s and men’s clothing called, Pratap and Pratap Men, respectively. . For Rajesh, style plays a key role in fashion. “There are different pillars of fashion in this world, which are constant like languages. Style is basically a language. For example, someone, who is a minimalist, would speak a language of

I like Rajesh’s fabric selection and his cosy attire, which look heavy but are soft in feel and wearing. I also like his innovative concepts in fashion. minimalism across the board and people, who understand that language, would respond, converse and indulge in it.” Are his long hair also representing his style statement? “No, it is not so. It is just my laziness, honestly,” says Rajesh playfully. Well, his meticulously textured details, wearable weaves and clean finish in his attires reflect his ingenuity. A wearer’s cosiness and the fabric of the garment is always on his mind while sketching. This is why he is so closely associated with Indian fabric mills and always spurs on textile experimentation, especially in khadi. “I simply love the fabric and every season I use it in my collections in some form or the other. However, it will be unfair to say that I have revolutionised it,” says Rajesh candidly. Developing India’s finest cashmere is his other quest. No doubt, everything Indian inspires his creativity. However, according to him, “Inspirations are not something, which you get only 3 to 6 months. Many a time, these inspirations are probably used to give order and focus to a collection. However, I always find it very difficult to be inspired by a new thing every three months, or maybe I am not so blessed.” Recently concluded Van Heusen India Men’s Week highlighted the new dimensions of his imagination and inspiration, where he used the modest gamchha (cotton towel), kaccha (underwear) over trousers and lungi (sarong) over jeans to present a contemporary trait in fashion. His expertise has been applauded in both segments, men and women. According to him, “Readyto-wear men’s wear is far more organised than women’s wear. It is just that till now women’s wear has been getting more visibility. He turns down this fact that today, men’s wear fashion is more inclined towards women’s wear. “Men’s wear has its own identity and so does women’s wear. Both do merge and influence each other at some point but do not consume each other.” He confides that he is quite unhappy with some prevalent fashion trends but in sheer modesty, he concedes that he is not a dictator or a reformist. “Everyone has his own choice,” condones Rajesh. “Fashion has an underlying phenomenon of “I have it and you do not.” However, design is a process of solving problems, so the answer is somewhere in between. A pair of jeans is still fashionable and accessible therefore, still a perfect solution to solve any fashion problem,” explains Rajesh. This vision has helped him to win many accolades such as ‘Kingfisher Designer of The Year Award’ in 2001 and 2005; ‘Best

Though Rajesh Pratap is an introvert, yet his clean cut, meticulous designs and International approach speak a lot about his glamorous collection. He has specialised in adapting a simple object to a modern fashion statement, which is really awesome. He can easily shape up any simple material into a luxurious and distinctive apparel.

Menswear Designer Award’ in 1996; Elle’s ‘Designer of The Year’ in May 2007; GQ’s ‘Designer of the Year’ and Newsweek’s admiration as India’s ‘Most Talented Designer’ in June 2009. He has also designed costumes for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s French opera, Padmavati and his movie, Saawariya. However, Rajesh keeps himself secluded from any celeb status. “I am not into celebrities. Some clients happen to be celebrities, which I take in my own stride and dropping names is just not my style,” Rajesh asserts candidly. Internationally, Rajesh has been showcasing his collections in Paris and Milan. He has participated in the prestigious Paris Fashion Week and represented internationally through showrooms in Paris and Milan. He believes that fashion nowadays has more exposure, more education, and is better organised as an industry. “All positive and the churning is still going on.” However, he wishes that there be only one representative platform in India. “It is not sustainable and is basically a direct result of individuals holding the industry to ransom. A sensible calendar has to emerge and a single Indian Fashion Week should be the goal of all concerned. It might be a joke but our industry is not large enough to sustain myriad weeks,” he explains. Apart from mesmerising the fashion world through his accomplished collections, he is also focusing on enhancing the reach of his label on the retail front. There are six stand alone flagship stores of his label in India with selected multibrand boutiques. Internationally, the brand retails with some of the best stores in the world. “Managing the current retail presence and expanding selectively is my vital focus. This market is just evolving and there are many new opportunities emerging. Shops outside the country are in the distant future,” he shares. When not busy with his fashion collections, regular business or fashion weeks, he does take out time to revel in his world of making sculptures. Rajesh is very fond of metallic sculptures and according to him, “It’s a malleable medium and a very interesting one. For me, sculptures and clothes have a lot in common.” Simplicity is the other name of Rajesh and he is always ready to surprise the world with his work. So how he would like to be remembered. “Quitting does cross my mind very often but it is still some time away. I do not care how I would be remembered. When it is over, it is over,” he says smilingly.

How did you start the journey into this glamorous industry? What was your family’s reaction on the decision to join the industry?

I always knew that I wanted to be a part of this industry. It did not happen by chance, since it was all planned. It was because of my parents’ support that I have been able to reach to this level.

Tell us about the impact of the title ‘Miss India Finalist 08’ on your life. Who helped you to achieve this prestigious title? The impact of the title is really excellent. It helps a lot in networking and gets brilliant exposure. My motivation,

dedication and support from my family primarily helped me.

According to you, what are the pros and cons of modelling?

Beautiful locations for shoots, affluent lifestyle, wearing the most glamorous clothes; all these things are basically like living a dream. There is also exposure to endorsements and other opportunities. However, hectic schedules, weight gain and ageing are definitely some threats.

How crucial is a good portfolio in making a difference to a model’s career?

Your portfolio is your resume. It showcases you and your work.

What according to you is the most important thing to keep in mind while getting your portfolio clicked?

Tailor your portfolio for your strengths and the type of modelling you are interested in. If you are a high fashion model, you should have high fashion images. If you have a pretty face, you should have more commercial pictures. However, be realistic and do not allow the makeup and photoshop to have the upper edge.

How essential is it for a model to keep fit and well-versed with contemporary fashion? It is extremely crucial for models to be fit otherwise they are being unfair to their profession. Also, it is important to be aware and well versed with the contemporary fashion.

What is essential for a model – beauty, brains or fashion sense? According to me, all three are essential.

People often consider modelling as ‘child’s play’. What is your stand on it?

It might look easy and glamorous from the outside but being a part of this industry, I have realised that it is one of the most challenging and exciting jobs one could have.

Tell us about some qualities, which are necessary to become a good model? Do you think a parallel career option is necessary for models?

Apart from the basic qualities like confidence and physical attributes, a model should be adaptable; have lots of patience in the green room and be open to criticism. A parallel career

option is desirable as this profession has a relatively shorter life span as compared to other professions.

Have you ever suffered any kind of exploitation in the industry? No, fortunately I have not.

Do you ever feel jealous of any of your fellow model friends?

Jealousy is a sign of insecurity and that is something I am not after, having been in this industry for several years. There were times when it used to get intimidating, however, with the passage of time, it gets to be reasonable.

Has any untoward incident happened with you at a fashion event?

Yes, during an event, I was walking the ramp when my heel got stuck on the runway. I stood there for a while struggling to get it out. All this while, I pretended that it was a part of the choreographed act. I successfully got away with it.

Who is your style icon? Who do you think is the ultimate fashion diva and why? Victoria Beckham is my style icon for her enduring classic looks and innovative style. Beyonce is another because she can wear anything and look real fabulous.

What attracts you to a man?

I think there are no fixed parameters for someone to be perfect. Everyone is special and unique in their own way. However, it is nice to come across someone, who has a good sense of humour; is witty and knows how to treat a woman like a woman.

What irks you?

Men with double standards, dishonesty and sitting idle at home.

Who was your childhood crush and who is it now? Any plans for marriage yet or do you want to achieve your goals first?

I have had my fair share of crushes like any other girl, but nobody in particular. I have not given marriage a thought yet, but I do not know why marriage and career cannot coexist.

What are your future plans? Are you ready for Bollywood?

My future plan is to be happy, successful and independent. Modelling is where my heart is and I am really enjoying my work. I have not given a thought to Bollywood.

Casting couch and sexual harassment are common in Bollywood. What has been your experience in this regard?

Well, I think casting couch is not a myth. It is very much prevalent here. However, personally I have not had any such experience. Having said that, I believe that as long as you are sure about the choices you want to make, nobody can pressurise you otherwise.

Do you think wardrobe malfunction is a convenient way for models and designers to attract attention?

It is an unfortunate accident, which can happen to anybody. It does grab a lot of unnecessary attention. However, I am sure that it is never a deliberate attempt.

Many foreign models nowadays are a part of our modelling industry. Is it fair to allow them to work here, since many Indian models do not get a fair chance?

I believe that in a competitive industry like ours, if these firang models fit the look of the show, it is fine. However, I believe that except Indian models, nobody else can carry the Indian wear with as much panache and ĂŠlan.

What is your opinion about the gay culture? Do you think that nowadays it is in fashion to be a gay?

It is very liberating to know that people today have the freedom of choice. However, we still have to overcome certain scepticism, which can only be achieved over a period of time through education. It is quite absurd to think that someone would want to be a gay, just to look fashionable. It is purely a matter of preference, which I do not think can be influenced by anything else, least of all fashion.

harisma, the magical attraction that gives some people the edge over the world, a sort of magnetism that inspires confidence and adoration in those you meet. Now you can have the same advantage. In the last issue, we had spoken about radiating positive energy and making others feel good about themselves. Here are a few practical tips that can make the job easier for you. To anyone, their name is the most important sound in any language. When introduced to someone new, you are so busy trying to judge the other person or trying to present yourself in the best possible manner, that you often do not remember the other person’s name. After you have spoken to that person for some time, you wonder what his or her name was!

48

n

Models Trends NOVEMBER 2009

A charismatic person does not let this happen. When being introduced to someone, they are concentrating entirely on what is being said. In fact, if it is a difficult or unusual name, in their minds they make an association of that name with something familiar, so that they will not forget the name. Then they make use of this name effectively by using it a few times while talking to that person. That ensures that they do not forget the name for a long time. Also, when you use a person’s name in the course of a conversation, you actually pay a subtle and a very effective compliment. The other person feels nice about it. Not remembering someone’s name or mis-pronouncing it, puts you at a distinct disadvantage. The next step is to encourage

Learn to look at the lighter side of things, do not take criticism to heart, learn to laugh more and figure out how you can turn negative energy into positive.

others to talk about themselves. This is an easy way to become a good conversationalist also. To do this, you have to listen to the other person intently, without distracting your mind with other things. Become genuinely interested. That is one of the best compliments you can pay anyone. Even the most unfriendly person softens up and begins to draw closer to you. A great way of not making good friends is to hardly listen and talk incessantly about yourself. Even if you have to express a thought while someone is talking, wait for him or her to finish; do not burst right in and interrupt in the middle of a sentence. Keep the focus on the person you are talking to. In terms of body language, to have that charisma, two things are primary. Eye contact and smile. I cannot over-emphasise the importance of these two things. Direct eye contact with people creates a rapport. Do not just stare hard; the idea is that when your ears are getting some words from the other person, you should be listening with your eyes too. And then, of course, the smile. Go in front of a mirror and see what your smile looks like. Not everyone has a perfect smile, see if you need to modify anything. Maybe you need to make it wider or maybe you show your teeth too much, or maybe your gums are showing when you smile. Most of your smile corrections can be made by yourself, committing your new smile to your muscle memory. However, there are also hundreds of leading models, movie stars, and celebrities, who have taken the help of a good dentist to perfect their smile. I can name at least nine Miss India winners, who have gone through the dentist’s chair before the contest, but if I name them, I will lose nine friends. Just before I go, one last tip to make you more charismatic. Ease up a little in your life. Drop the seriousness, drop the excessive self-concern and see how your life changes for the better. Learn to look at the lighter side of things, do not take criticism to heart, learn to laugh more and figure out how you can turn negative energy into positive. Of course, it makes the others around you happier, but then onwards, you are the one, who will be called‌ the charismatic one! More next time on preparing for the pageant. In the meantime, answer this month’s simple question and win yourself three free one-on-one training sessions with me. It will help you on your way to the crown. Plus it is easy because the answer to the question lies somewhere in this article. Answer a simple question after reading this article and win yourself three one-on-one training sessions with Yuri. Wedding bells are chiming as the pretty ladies get ready to woo their ‘prince charming’. The season nuptial is in full swing and every bride - to - be wants to make the grand finale, a special, unique and memorable event. Here are some tips for the lucky ones from Jagdeep Chabbra, Director, Chabbra 555.

Contemporary bridal look

A bride should be comfortable in whatever she wears on her D-day. The bridal collection this season has dabka work, pitta work, resham and gotta work with metallic, antique silver and gold colour embroidery. The make-up should be of the same colour tone only, which should emphasise the bride’s look.

Colours selection for the trousseau

Usually, girls prefer to choose their own colours because everyone has a different image of a bride for herself. The key thing to remember is that they should choose colours, depending on their skin colour and other aspects. Choose different colours than what everyone is wearing. However, this year the favourite colour of designers is wine and midnight blue.

Fabrics for the wedding outfit

Silhouettes to dominate the trousseau collection

The fabrics, which will rule ethnic Indian wear this season, will be banarsi woven fabrics, jamawars, khadi woven fabrics mixed and matched with velvet and georgette patches. These are perfect for not only the wedding, but also for other formal and semi-formal wear.

A girl’s trousseau collection is very important and special for her. It should be a mix of evergreen classic styles and contemporary fashion. A stitched saree, a line cut lehenga, fish cut lehenga styled with halter neck choli, backless corset with big crystals, stone work and choli cut blouse are in vogue this season for the young gushing bride.

Give the precious old sarees a new dimension

Girls have a special affinity for their mother’s wedding sarees and lehengas, since it is the first ever bridal wear they have seen. Thus, using the same for their own trousseau is quite the obvious choice. Here are some tips for converting the mother’s wedding sarees and lehengas for your trousseau: (a). If you have your mother’s old fashion full circular lehenga, then according to your comfort, you can get it altered in semi circular, fish-cut or trim-fit style lehenga. (b). If your lehenga or saree is in two to three colours, then pick one trendy colour out of this to cover your top. Make a new blouse; corset with choli cut style; halter neck or Nehru collar with matching embroidery having pitta work, dabka work and resham work. This way you can use both, your mother’s lehenga and saree. (c). You can also cut the lehenga into panels and stitch it together. A semi fish-cut lehenga can also be made, which can be paired with a net dupatta having light embroidery.

he texture of the hair is determined by genetic factors. Most of the hair straightening methods actually change the very structure of the hair. The temporary method of straightening the hair is by using a hand hair dryer. When hair is damp, it is divided into sections. The end of each section is held with a brush. This section of hair is then held straight downwards and dried with the hair dryer. This is done with each section and this straightens the hair. This effect lasts till the next shampoo. Regular use of this method may not change the structure of the hair, but it does make the hair dry. Excessive heat should be avoided as it makes the hair brittle and fragile, resulting in split-ends and hair breakage.

Models Trends NOVEMBER 2009

Straight and smooth hair has been in fashion for quite sometime. Those, who have curly or wavy hair, are envious of the straight hairstyles. So, what should they do? Obviously, go in for hair straightening methods. It is essential to know what these methods are; how they affect the hair and how the damage can be avoided. The hair can also be straightened with the use of chemical hair straighteners. The procedure is also known as relaxing. In this process, the chemical enters each hair shaft and changes the structure of the inner layers of the hair, by which curly or wavy hair becomes straight. In this process, fairly strong chemicals such as perming lotions are applied directly to the hair. Straight hair becomes curly in perming lotions, while in the hair straightening chemicals, the effect is reversed. The effects of a strong relaxing procedure may last up to six months. Chemical hair straightening must always be done by a professional and experienced hair stylist, who knows the technique well. It is a good idea to consult friends and talk to those

who have had their hair successfully straightened. A professional conducts a strand test first to find out how strong the relaxing chemical should be. Individual hair must also be examined to see the hair texture, elasticity and the state of health of the hair. If hair is already dry and brittle and has suffered damage, a weaker relaxer should be used. Healthy hair is porous and elastic. Damaged hair may have lost its elasticity and become fragile. That is why it breaks easily. The professional hair stylist also sees if the hair has been coloured earlier, because chemically coloured or dyed hair is also weaker. It requires a mild relaxing formula. If the hair texture is coarse and rough and has never been coloured, permed or straightened, the stylist may decide on a stronger relaxing formula. The professional examination of the hair is very important, because it helps the stylist to decide what type of product should be used before using the chemicals. Do not go in for relaxing and colouring around the same time. Allow a gap of 2 to 3 months between these procedures. Apart from the chemical hair relaxing formula, other products are a base cream or vaseline, a neutraliser as well as a shampoo and a conditioner, which are specifically meant for the hair relaxing procedure. The hair stylist applies the base cream, usually vaseline on the scalp, to protect it. Actually, the protective cream

should be applied on the scalp, forehead, neck and ears, otherwise there can be burns. That is why one must have the procedure done by an experienced hairstylist. Apply the hair relaxing chemical formula. The formula enters the middle layers of the hair to soften the hair and loosen the curls and waves. The duration for which the chemical is left on the hair is very important. The average time is 7 to 8 minutes. The longer it is left on, the risk of hair damage increases. The hair are now washed thoroughly, to rinse off the chemicals, after which the neutraliser is applied. This is done to restore the normal pH (acid-alkaline) balance of the hair. Then apply a conditioner. Sometimes, for already damaged hair, apply conditioner before and after the procedure. The conditioner helps to replenish the natural oils, which are depleted during the process. It also helps to add softness and shine to the hair. After this, the hair may be styled according to one’s choice. If the hair is styled, the entire procedure, from strand test, protection, application, washing, conditioning, drying or styling may take 4 to 5 hours. Relaxed hair may require blow drying after shampoo, to keep them straight. The hair straightening method, which has become more popular, is the Japanese thermal straightening method. It is also known as ‘rebounding’. In the USA, it is known as ‘Thermal Conditioning’. It is said that the straightening is

It has been seen that rebounding has not been very successful on very curly hair and also hair that has already received repeated chemical treatments

permanent in this method and does not require the use of blow dryers after shampoo. However, some dry the hair after shampoo, to add more body to the hair. The other reason why this method has become more popular is because it makes the hair look healthier and smoother and adds more body. For this procedure too, it is essential to have it done by an experienced stylist. It is not a procedure that can be done at home. In rebounding also, the hairstylist checks the hair texture and the state of the hair. The procedure begins with washing the hair. Usually protein is applied to the hair, which coats each hair. This helps the straightening process and is also said to protect the hair. Then a chemical solution is applied, which breaks down the disulphide bonds in the hair. Hair is made up of a protein matter called keratin and has a lot of disulphide bonds. A disulphide bond is the bond between two sulphur atoms. The breaking of the bond makes the hair more pliable. The solution is applied for a duration of time decided by the stylist. Then the solution is rinsed off and the hair is partially blow-dried, so that it is still damp. A hair straightening thermal iron is then used and

small sections of the hair are taken and straightened with it. When the entire hair is straightened in this manner, another solution is applied, which helps to re-form or ‘rebound’ the broken disulphide bonds. Hence, the name ‘rebounding’ is coined. The hair is rinsed and conditioned. Rebounding affects the porosity (capacity to absorb) of the hair. After rebounding is done, the hair should not be washed for 2 to 3 days, so as to allow the reforming of the disulphide bonds. It has been seen that rebounding has not been very successful on very curly hair and also hair that has already received repeated chemical treatments. The entire rebounding process may take four to eight hours. The effect lasts for a year, after which the regrown hair can be touched up. Needless to say, ‘rebounding’ is a more expensive method of hair straightening. Hair straightening irons are also available for straightening the hair, where the hair is straightened by applying heat directly on it. The irons have wide plates to accommodate larger sections of the hair. A nylon comb attachment may be there to hold the hair straight. The better and more expensive irons are the ceramic ones, as they are said to cause less damage. The ceramic ones distribute heat evenly. It would be best to get one, which allows you to set the heat according to your hair texture. Excessive use of irons can dry out the hair, leading to splitends and considerable hair damage. The hair also loses its natural shine and begins to look dry, damaged and unhealthy. It can also lead to hair loss and thinning of hair. What must be emphasised is that after-care is extremely important with straightened hair. It is important to give your hair regular care to limit the damage. Avoid repeated touching up of relaxed hair. Use mild shampoos and extra-rich conditioners. Chemically treated hair should get deep conditioning treatments at least once a week. The use of hair serum helps to give shine and adds protection too. Once a week, the hair should be given hot oil therapy. Use a wide toothed comb to disentangle your hair. If split ends start developing, be sure to cut them off. If the hair become damaged due to repeated straightening, avoid it for sometime and allow the hair to recover, giving it conditioning

treatments and hot oil therapy. Always use good quality shampoos and conditioners. Hair, which is treated with heat, also requires the same kind of extra care. Specially formulated shampoo with conditioner help in dealing with hair damage. Products are also available which not only condition the hair, but also impart sheen and protect the hair from sun-exposure. Hair packs with ayurvedic powders containing ingredients like amla, bael, brahmi, henna, mint, margosa, trifala may also be used. Apart from cleansing the scalp and conditioning the hair, these treatments strengthen the hair by coating the hair shaft. They also add body and lustre to restore health of the damaged hair.

Aromatherapy

A

romatherapy is the oldest form of natural therapy dating back to 10000 BC when it was practiced in India, Egypt and China. Aromatic oils and plants were then used to adorn their bodies, for physical and mental well being, for religious purpose and mummification. Today, the concern for environment and the desire to connect with nature has brought about a resurgence of interest in Aromatherapy. Since it is the most natural and beneficial of all forms of naturopathy, the world is realising its potential for enhancing the quality of human life. It is the most natural way of treating an array of physical, mental and emotional problems. Also, it is the most safe, effective and

Aromatherapy has added a new dimension to skin, hair, body care and personal hygiene environmentally responsible alternative to conventional medicines and cosmetics. It can give a healthy appearance to any skin, especially problem skin. It regulates oily skin, clears skin problems and provides it with a healthy glow. It is also immensely beneficial for hair care, dandruff and hair re-growth. Essential oils are natural capacitors and catalysts, which are able to store, amplify and release energy when required, literally boosting the body system back into operation. Essential oils work principally in two ways. They have an instant effect on the mental state of the individual through inhalation and through absorption by application.

Use of Aromatherapy in daily life

Whether we are aware of it or not, our sense of smell works for us all the time. It can instantly evoke a certain memory and can quickly signal a change of mood; yet we often overlook the profound impact that aroma has on our perception. There is a growing interest in discovering new subtle ways to add aroma to our lives and surroundings. There are many ways to surround ourselves in enjoyable suggestions of fragrance. More than 200 oils are used in aromatherapy with vastly different therapeutic properties. In the hair and beauty profession, aromatherapy oils are used to treat ageing and wrinkled skin; to treat loss of elasticity; to treat tone and contour, pigmentation, dry and oily skin, and many other skin complaints. The greatest strength of essential oils lies in their rejuvenating properties. These oils have the ability to heal, disinfect and stimulate the metabolism, so that the stored toxins are released and the healthy cell production is resumed. This is the guiding maxim for youth and beauty.

Essential oils as bath oils

Add a few drops of essential oil and blend it with bath water. After adding the oil in the bath, swish the water gently with the hand, so that the oil forms a film on water. On bathing, this thin film of oil will envelop the body, penetrate the skin and diffuse into the tissues. Gentle scrubbing of the body with a towel or a natural scrubber will help to absorb the oil into the skin. If the skin tends to be dry, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil along with the essential oil.

After completion of the bath, a small amount of oil does remain on

the skin. Towel drying does not remove all of this essence, so the skin is left lightly perfumed.

Massage oils or bath oils

Add a few drops of essential oil blend to 20 ml. of almond oil. When massaged into the body, the oils are completely absorbed by the skin and penetrate the tissues deeply. The best time to use these aromatic massage oils is after a bath, especially if one has dry skin. The oil counteracts the drying effects of soap.

Vaporisation

Essential oils can be used as air fresheners. They contribute to a cheerful atmosphere. Put a few drops of essential oil blend on a source of heat, be it a light bulb, a radiator, or a small bowl of hot water. The oil evaporates and perfumes the air.

Toilet water

Add few drops of essential oil blend to 100 ml of distilled water. Keep the mixture in a dark air-tight bottle, which can stay fresh for a few weeks. Shake the bottle well before use and spray to apply.

Yellow

Yellow speaks a lot about artistic ability and creativity of an individual. People who prefer yellow are optimistic, imaginative and introvert. They have strong business sense and sharp personality but sometimes are overpowered by impractical ideas. In case of sexual bond, they are complex drivers and never enjoy sex to the fullest. Interestingly, the inclination towards yellow colour is greatly found among homosexuals. Internationally recognised Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty is an unyielding lover of this colour.

Brown

Simplicity is the key word to define white lovers. The passion towards this colour depicts an innocent, honest and neutral personality that is far from vulgarity and considers peace and ethics as their prime concern. Various professions and religions consider this ethical colour as a sign of peace and prosperity. Older persons have strong affinity towards its perfection, whereas youths consider its wearability with freshness and style. Bollywood actress Amrita Rao stands as a perfect example of this prediction, where her favourite colour white presents her as a beauty with simplicity. Internationally renowned Indian actress, Freida Pinto, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, celebrity hair stylist, Sylvie and ace Bollywood actress Simi Garewal are another cool personas.

This colour loving person has stamina and patience, tending to be solid and substantial, conscientious, dependable, steady and conservative. The person who loves this colour is not impulsive and maybe inarticulate and tactless but he loves responsibility and is reliable and kind. If you love brown, avoid being obstinate and inflexible. The colour defines people, who are full of inscrutability. The liking for this hue also talks a lot about spiritual beliefs and high creativity. It is associated with charm, wit and sacrificing nature of an individual. This colour holds the aura of confidence and excitement. Both men and women are tricky to tune love for their own fulfilment. They are more practical than emotional. People with purple hue often exaggerate simple things for which they may loss the faith of their dear ones. Hollywood hotties Drew Barrymore and Salma Hayek are the aficionados of this colour.

This colour is a gateway to harmony and balance. Green lovers present themselves as caring companion, loyal friend of nature and society . They are very sensitive at handling things and abide by high moral ethics. Sometimes, their modest nature throws them into hot water. They take an innocent and fresh approach towards sexuality. Green colour loving women love to be virgins forever, whereas men have a decent approach in this case. Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is a fine example here, who loves to wear green colour.

Models Trends NOVEMBER 2009

Black is a sign of dignity and sophistication. An individual in black is considered as stylish and sexy but is an odd ball in this sexy world. Their mood and stressed nature may offend their sexual partner, causing a bitter married life. Black indeed is made for a perfectionist and dominating character. For instance, our black lover Aamir Khan is known as Mr. Perfectionist in Bollywood. Aishwarya Rai, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor and Akshay Kumar are in love with this colour too.

Orange

Orange is the colour of youth, strength, fearlessness, curiosity and restlessness. This colour of luxury and pleasure appeals to the flamboyant and fun-loving persons, who like energetic social surroundings. Orange colour loving people may exaggerate a bit but they are generally goodnatured and popular. They can be fickle-minded but on the whole, they try hard to be satisfied. Bollywood famous musician, singer and actor Himesh Reshammiya is a die-hard lover of this colour.

How did you get the ticket to Bollywood movies?

Now when I think about it, I feel it was a divine intervention. Actually, I was auditioning like any other newcomer for eight months, to get an entry into Bollywood and nothing was falling through. However, now I realise why it happened the way it did. Of course, the movie 1920 was waiting for me.

What was your parents’ reaction on your decision to become an actress?

My parents are extremely intelligent individuals. They support me in all my decisions. Their happiness lies in mine and vice-versa.

Did you ever dream of starting your career with a talented director like Vikram Bhatt and a successful movie like 1920?

In life you only get what you deserve and I believe that I deserve the best. 1920 was the best movie and I am very fortunate to have been in the movie with a teacher like Vikram Bhatt.

How has been your experience with the industry and its people to date?

I am just one film old, so I have not made too many judgments about the industry. Till now, I have mostly met good people. My first film was successful and I was appreciated by the audience, the industry and the critics, so I think I am very fortunate. It has opened a lot of doors for me.

You decided to debut in the industry with a horror movie but most girls prefer to enter Bollywood with a romantic flick. Does this make a difference?

I was fully aware that I am not from a filmy background. However, I had decided that I wanted to get one of the best roles, which any actress would like to adorn. I decided this when I was giving movie auditions. I was rejected for a few roles and I refused a few. I did not accept the role in 1920 to create any difference. I just knew that doing it would make me happy and as an actress, I was completely satisfied from the creative point of view. Even though I was traumatised in the film and the role exhausted me mentally and physically, yet within me there was a sense of fulfillment.

Do you believe in love at first sight or love after marriage?

For me life is romance. I am a very passionate person. Currently, I am having a torrid affair with movies and dance. However, I do not believe in love at first sight.

What kind of person would you like to marry?

I still would like to wait for ten more years to get married, so I will think about it then. Anyone without a tail would do.

What kind of person are you by nature? Romantic, extrovert, introvert or rationalist.

A little bit of everything in real life. However, in reel life whatever I am told to be.

Tell us about your upcoming movies and your roles.

I am doing a film called Phhir. It is a drama based on the karma theory. I play the role of an introvert, who does not believe in expressing emotions. Disha, whom I characterise in the movie, is a silent and gifted girl. She is special. There are many contrasting layers in her character, which I thought are interesting, so I signed the film.

Do you think that an actor or actress has some responsibility towards the society?

Yes, you do have a responsibility. As an actor you are a role model for a lot of people. People want to dress like a particular actor; eat what he eats; talk, look and behave like him or her. I think an actor or actress should keep a check over their actions, as they are a public property.

Controversies are a part and parcel of the industry. Do such nuisances bother you and your family?

Some media persons stoop to unethical levels and thrive on false controversies, in a bid to gain cheap popularity. I haven’t been part of anything major. My family has better things to concentrate on.

If given a chance, which movie role would you like to play and why? The list is long but Brad Pitt’s role in movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button tops my list. Others are Saif Ali Khan in Omkara; Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road; Konkona Sen in 13th Park Avenue and Katrina Kaif in Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya.

Hollywood or Bollywood movie, which one would be your priority and why?

Bollywood for now, as I have just started here and I love it. Though as an actor you do not have any boundaries but I am greedy and want to dabble in all cinemas.

What does success mean to you?

What say I feel bad when… I witness the oppression of the downtrodden animals or humans. The look in the eyes of a restrained chicken in a cage or a goat or a pig, who are living their last few days, makes me feel nauseated. I spend my leisure time. . . I dislike

vacations and free time to unwind. For me, intense work is rest.

I define fashion as… Fashion is not

something that exists only in haute couture clothes. It is in the sky, on the street, in ideas and the way we live and think.

My style mantra of fashion . . . Fashion

can be bought but style is inherent in you. Fashion fades but style is eternal.

My fitness mantra is… Zipping your lip! Just kidding. For me, dancing (I am graduating in Kathak and this is my 7th and final year), gymnastics, mallakhamb, running, skipping and doing things that inspire me to be happy. My fashion tips… Wear anything that does not itch and make you scratch in public. My strongest point…

As an actress, I am sharp, spontaneous, consistent, definite, tireless and very obedient.

My weakest point. . . I am

impatient and a perfectionist, which sometimes hinders progress.

Marriage. . . Marriages are made in

Beard ke peeche kya hai? Earlier beard, moustache and actors were inseparable in Tollywood movies. Today, the prevailing stubbly look in Bollywood seems to define a speechless style statement.

T

There was a time, when Bollywood actors like Shotgun Sinha, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff and Rajnikanth were considered a mismatch for the role of a charming college goer lover, due to their moustache and unkempt appearance. They were rather considered perfect for ‘bade bhaiyya’ roles. After the transformation of Bollywood movies, the scenario has changed now. The growing Gen X population has a great penchant for the young brigade of Bollywood, especially for their ‘unshaven look’. This new metrosexual look is also nurturing the fashionable image of our actors, making them a style icon for youngsters. Let’s check around and find out that who received thumbs up or thumbs down for their unshaven style.

Saif Ali Khan

Saif looks awesome in his new unshaven look. He has projected this in his blockbusters, Race and Love Aaj Kal. It seems that his new style is so dominant that he raced through to win Kareena’s heart. Dear Shahid, are you also contemplating an unshaven look?

The actor considers his new flashy fashion as a lucky charm and no doubt, his marriage to former ‘Miss World’, Aishwaryia Rai, says it all. His previous movie, Dilli 6 also boasted of his new engrossing style.

Himesh Reshammiya

From being a mentor of the singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, to an entertainer in a musical album and now a Bollywood actor, this versatile male has continued his journey towards stardom with his bearded look. Alas, his last movie, Karzzz did not perform well at the box office; therefore, he has decided to go for a makeover in his next film, Radio. He has already got rid of his baseball cap. Time to watch out if the movie becomes a hit with his new look.

John Abraham

Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik started his career with a stubbly look in, Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and since then has been trying almost every look in search of a smashing hit. This ‘Greek God’ of Bollywood has now dazzled one and all with his bearded look. Although the distinctive look is for his upcoming movie, Kites but it seems that it will also continue in director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next movie Guzaarish, where he will perform the role of a patient. May the beard brings in an extra bounty for him!

Finding clean shaved John is as difficult as discovering a rose without fragrance. The macho man has admitted that the unshaven look glorifies his style and persona. From a shy-pimpled face teenager to a glaring Gladrags model, John has nurtured this unkempt look with great panache. His movies, Dostana and New York prove this charisma of his appearance. Thumbs up to the daadhis!

Imran Khan

The 25 years old nephew of Aamir Khan has also experimented with this look, tuning himself from a chocolate boy to a macho man. Although his movie, Kidnaap could not perform well at the box-office, yet the audience appreciated his look. He also won accolades with this rough look in Luck, inspite of a lukewarm response to this movie. No problem dear Pappu, do not lose heart and better wait for the right time.

Emraan Hashmi

The ‘Kissing King’ of Bollywood is already on the vanguard with this look and is busy in pursuing the style for his upcoming movies. His striking look was widely appreciated in movies, Awarapan and Razz 2- The mystery continues. Good news for his adherents that he will be seen with the unshaven look in his next movie, Tum Mile. Well, it seems the actor finds himself cool and cosy in this ishtyle.

Bollywood is famous for ‘making hay while the sun shines’. What with these stars encashing their looks to become the talk of the town.

Aamir’s inspiration revealed

Following the footsteps of his peers Salman and Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan has also decided to quit smoking. However, according to him, it is not an easy task and he is really dying to have a cigarette because he thinks it will relax him. Not only this, Aamir is also following these two stars in his professional and personal life. Like Salman and Shah Rukh, he is also planning to host a show on the small screen; walk the ramp; have a bash for friends and get invited for charity work. Who says Aamir coins new ways for himself? Cheers to the inspiration factor!

Charity begins with hats

Brad Pitt is thinking about doing some charity work these days. The star has been regularly receiving gifts from fans and friends, in which a large collection is of hats. This growing large collection of headwear is annoying wife Angelina Jolie, so he has decided to part company with these. Brad is also fond of bikes and has revealed that the bikes are helpful to escape from paparazzi. We think that he should donate those hats to paparazzi so that they cannot see him escape.

Vivek’s shapemania

There is an old proverb, ‘when in Rome, do as the Romans do’. Vivek Oberoi nowadays is practising this maxim. After Company, none of his movies did well at the box office. So he has decided to follow the road not taken earlier. He is taking health tips from Satyajit Chaurasia, who trained Aamir Khan to shape up his body for the movie Ghajini. In a forthcoming film, directed by Ram Gopal Verma, the actor will have to sport a lean but muscular body. Satyajit has advised Vivek to do some supportive exercises and instructed him to work out for 2 to 3 hours daily. Let’s hope that Vivek manages some acting tips too.

Confused Cameron

Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz has revealed that she has no idea what she wants from her life. The 37 year old star is not sure how long she will continue acting or if she will finally settle down and have a family. "Although I am not so old, yet I do not know what I want from life. I am certainly not sitting here worrying about where I am going to be. I am just making the most of my life," she said. "As long as I am happy performing in movies, I will keep performing. If I will not, then I will do something else," she added. Wish the audience did not have the same feeling of why they are watching Cameron’s movies?

Hard time for Gerard Actor Gerard Butler is undergoing a fierce detoxifying regime to lose weight and to become healthy again. This Hollywood hunk is surviving on a diet of just lemon water and red chillies to cleanse his body. Gerard always applies this method whenever he needs to get into shape for a film role. However, this time he is finding it tough, because he is undergoing the exhausting detox for his own peace of mind, not for any movie. "It is really a nightmare because I have my trainer and nutritionist around me to enforce this formula. Once my trainer caught me eating chocolate cake and he put me on a harder exercise schedule,” said Butler. Poor guy! The trainer is beating him to his treat.

Zinta without chinta

When bubbly actress Preity Zinta returned home after a long holiday from the US, she was surprised to find that her house was robbed by her own domestic help. “They took money and some jewellery. My mother came to Mumbai, spotted the theft and reported it immediately. Actually, it was her money that they took away," reported Preity. However, she is happy that at last she got a long break to rejuvenate her spirit. “I took a much-needed break after the IPL and am ready to get back to work,” said Preity, who is looking for a comeback with a super hit movie.

Lohan, the designer?

Lindsay Lohan is busy nowadays launching her next fashion line. She was earlier the artistic adviser of French fashion house, Emanuel Ungaro. However, the actress recently got blackballed by the fashion critics, when she showcased her first fashion range at Paris Fashion Week. Critics dubbed the show as an ‘embarrassment’. Even, Lohan admits that the skin-tight dresses and miniskirts were not her best work. She has rather blamed the failure on the limited time available. However, Lohan has refused to give up and is trying again. Next year, she is again going to present her new collection at the Paris Fashion Week. Keep on trekking Lohan!

Shocking gift for Nana

Nana Patekar is known to be a reserved person and does not allow anyone to disturb his peace of mind. Recently, he was really shocked to receive a gift of an old underwear, a single chappal and a fake moustache from actress Katrina Kaif on his birthday. Actually, it was a prank played by Ajay Devgan on the sets of Rajniti. He handed over a gift box to Kat and asked her to present it to Nana as a birthday gift. Kat was quite ignorant about the naughtiness and smilingly handed him the gift. Nana too gracefully accepted it but when he opened the box, he was stunned. Even Katrina was embarrassed out of her mind. Later, Ajay revealed his prank to all. Thank God, Nana was not practising gun shooting at that time.

3 Idiots

Cool college days

Just imagine, director Rajkumar Hirani (of Munna Bhai series), Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan and hot babe, Kareena Kapoor in author Chetan Bhagat’s best selling novel, ‘Five Point Someone’. Isn’t it a superb mixture? The film is about three students and their lives. Apart from Aamir and Kareena’s sensational pairing, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Mona Singh are also playing key roles. Once again following his legacy of ‘method acting’, Aamir has lost 8 kgs. and shed muscles to look like a college goer. Since comedy has been the forte of Mr. Hirani, we can hopefully expect a hilarious ride through.

Hrithik Roshan is a talented and hardworking actor. However, his home production movies always hone his acting skills better than the other production house films. Whatever the reason be, but without a doubt, papa Rakesh Roshan leaves no stone unturned to prove that his son is unparalleled. This romantic thriller once again emphasises the fact that Hrithik is unbeaten. Director Anurag Basu and producer Rakesh Roshan have made this high budgeted international movie with stars like Kangna Ranaut, Barbara Mori, Kabir Bedi and Nick Brown. Uncle Rajesh Roshan is as usual making it a lilting composition and the story…Well, it is still a secret!

The Lovely Bones

An emotional tale

This drama and suspense generated movie is based on the critically acclaimed, bestselling novel of Alice Sebold. Oscar winning director and producer, Peter Jackson portrays a young girl, who is murdered. After her death, she watches her family and her killer from heaven. Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci and Michael Imperioli are the leading stars of this movie. Jackson has described this movie as "a wonderfully emotional and powerful story.” Whether the film would be able to bind the audience to theatre or not, only time will tell.

Sherlock Holmes

A legend in a new appearance

This movie by Warner Bros. Pictures is directed by Guy Ritchie. The action, adventure and mystery present a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous character, ‘Sherlock Holmes’. The plot revolves around the tough journey of Holmes and his partner Watson to face their latest challenges. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong, the movie also reveals the fighting skill of this legendary intellect. The legendry detective in a superhero role is quite interesting.

Invictus

A winning spirit

Actor, director, producer and music composer, Clint Eastwood has won many accolades in Hollywood. He has acted and directed critically acclaimed movies. This time, the versatile personality is directing an inspiring true story of Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa. The biographical movie portrays him while helping his country’s rugby team to unite and win the 1995 Rugby World Cup against New Zealand in South Africa. Starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, the movie is considered a ‘front-runner’ for several academy awards.

Ishqiya

After the success of Chak De! India, director Shimit Amin and writer Jaideep Sahni have once again joined hands to rejuvenate the jubilant period under Yash Raj Films banner. This time Ranbir Kapoor has worn a pagri, as done by some veterans of Bollywood. This comedy revolves around the ups and downs of a sikh salesman and his tryst with destiny. Shazahn Padamsee, Sharon Prabhakar and Gauhar Khan are the other stars of the movie. Hopefully, the director would pay more attention on entertaining people rather than creating furore amongst the particular community.

Twisting tale

Vishal Bhardwaj started his career as a music composer in Bollywood movies but soon his quest to do something unique helped him to explore a new persona inside him. Director, producer, story and dialogue writer Vishal surprises the audience every time with his newfound talent. However, this time he has handed over the reign to his assistant, Abhishek Chaubhey as director, while he is the producer and dialogue writer. Starring Naseruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan, this tale of crime and romance will keep up to the expectations of the audience.
