We will get to that, I want to send out a big thank you. Last month was amazing and I was fortunate to have been the Grand Marshall for the Modesto 4th of July Parade. What an honor for me and my family. I can not even begin to thank enough the members of the Modesto Kiwanis Club, Jeremiah Williams, John Fields and the whole team for this fantastic honor and keeping this amazing Modesto tradition alive. Also last month we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of ModestoView Magazine. This was an exciting milestone and our event at the Peer Recovery Gallery was a great time to connect our ViewCrew with our readers and celebrate “serving civic pride daily”. Our favorite covers exhibition continues this month. We are proud to be a positive voice in our community for people, change and to build the city we want to live in. But life goes on, and it seems to be going fast and there are hundreds of people all over our downtown discovering our city with Pokemon Go. This month, we want to slow things down this month and get back to basics. Let’s stop and smell the roses, pick some fruit, wander the farmers markets and simplify our dining and enjoy what the Modesto USA community has to offer. Summer freshness has never tasted so good. Modesto really is a “Classic American City” and in addition to our classic Graffiti history and our Rockabilly music history, one of the things that makes us the most classic is

our fresh produce, fresh eats and our farmer’s markets. Many places have discovered farm to fork, but Modesto has been farm to fork since MID was created. Not only that, we were one of the first cities with a fully functioning electrical network in 1923, so it is only fitting that we have a really cool night market and our downtown streets are all lit with twinkle lights and we even have a cool DoMo (Downtown Modesto) Night Market along with our ArtWalk. Things are coming together. We celebrate our amazing agriculture this month but we also celebrate our talent and our people as we enjoy X Fest, that for 2016 moves to the San Joaquin Country Fairgrounds, but is a major venue for our local bands and musicians. This has been a spring board for many careers. Speaking of a springboard, we are proud to be apart of the Valley Talent Project on Aug 26 & 27. We are fortunate to have Hollywood casting professionals that are from Modesto and this is the time for our talent to get discovered and even make it to TV or the movies, just like Jeremy Renner, Tim Olyphant or Lindsey Pierce. Who is going to be next? ModestoView will be there at the judging table, hopefully launching a new star. But in the middle of all of this fun, it is time to go back to school. Yes, it seems like it gets earlier every year and most kids will pack up their summer vacation on Aug 8. Wow, time is going by fast, so lets make sure our kids are

ready, they have backpacks full of school supplies and they are ready and prepared to learn what they need to take on the world to be our next leaders. We all have a part to play but adopting schools, volunteering in classrooms, being a mentor our even just donating books and supplies. A well educated city is a successful city and it is really up to all of us. Thank you so much for being our Modesto friend. Thanks to the amazing businesses in this magazine that make it possible to reach hundreds of thousands of people across our region. We are all in this together and we all will make a difference. ART 10th Anninversary by Jim Christiansen Here we are at the end of summer, and much of what’s going on in our local art scene is continuation of shows that opened in July; well worth visiting if you missed July Art Walk. The Emergence Show at the Chartreuse Muse features a group exhibition of new and emerging local artists. Jim Abuan, Laura Stokes, Adelle Dolin, Pat Welty, Matt Sahlit, Barbara Gill, D. J. Laughlin, Alberto Medina, Terry Mack Carson, Cindy Birdsill, Phil Vance, Cheryl Bloomfield, Mary Jane Kiskinen, Abhilasha Natahajin, Jonathan Troxler, Jack Penderoast, Bare Paw Designs, and I among the familiar and likely new names to check out. ModestoView cover art will continue on display at the Mod Spot, Peer Recovery Art Project Gallery at 13th and J Streets. Ten years of Modesto View covers are featured in this display through August 15. From The Trenches is an exhibition highlighting a selection of artworks by art students from local and not-so-local California colleges and universities. The Mistlin Gallery through show host Dr. Richard Serros, brought together a rich and varied collection of works reflecting a broad range of interests and approaches to expressing ideas and working with various media. The Show contacted 42 of the best undergraduate art students across the region. These students are from our three local campuses and a number who have transferred to art departments at various CSU and UC campuses throughout California. These include: CSU Stanislaus, San Jose, Sacramento, Chico, Humboldt, Long Beach and Fullerton, as well as UC Berkeley, Davis, Santa Cruz and San Diego. This show has been extended through August. Next up is the Member’s Juried show and gala event. John Griswold and Friends hosts the Lucca Winery Music series that all summer has featured local artists with its music offerings. This month Esther Wineapple will be a featured artist with her Michael Jackson and other portraits, at the Foreverland Concert August 13. Jim Christiansen also featured and will be joined up by Rita Barbano and Yvette LaForce for the Series Woman of Brazil concert September 10. Artists Tammy Jo Shchoppet, Jennifer Williams, Nicole Slater, Eva Hass, and Deborah Barr have been featured in the first two shows.

Other spots to see something new at Preservation Coffee, Still Smoking, and Che’root. The Art Walk Passport is still out there to fill out, and enter a chance to win dinner and a movie. Check with your art walk venues. Fall Classes for kids open to sign up at Chartreuse Muse and MIstlin Gallery. The Valley Sun Catchers plein air group has reformed with Rick Ingraham. Sangria

Sangria has been a beloved beverage for centuries. We can thank Spain for this refreshing, easy-to-drink beverage. It’s grown even more in popularity in the last few years, and Starbucks just introduced a nonalcoholic tea-based version. There are fewer alcoholic beverages a refreshing as Sangria. Sangria is traditionally a red wine punch, though a white wine version called “Sangria Blanca” can be found. The wine is then mixed with juice, and now-a-days also with soda water or brandy, for extra flavor and to increase the alcoholic percentage. On a hunt for Sangria in the valley (and out hunting for Pokemon), we stopped at Tresetti’s World Caffe in downtown Modesto. We walked in and asked the hostess if this world café carried the delicious Spanish drink, and to our happiness, they did! She sat us down at the winebar, we ordered some BBQ shrimp tacos, caught a Mankey, and waited for our drinks. Moments later, our precious rosy drinks arrived, garnished with orange slices. Tresseti’s makes their Sangria with a red wine blend from house reds, brandy, and fresh fruit juice

We love our search for fantastic local cocktails made with our favorite rum made here in Modesto by our friends at Do Good Distillery. Their rum is out of this world and it should be part of your cocktail experience and in your own liquor cabinet. This month, we found our friends at Ralston’s Goat mixing up something really peachy. Yes, August is the perfect time for local fresh peaches, especially those from Rodin Ranch. Master mixologist Sean Kohen has been working on a great Peach Puree and we go from there. Sean really likes to take the fresh flavors and really blend them to make a drink that tastes super fresh, isn’t too sweet and allows the Do Good 3 Mile Rum to shine. (Still hard to believe that school reconvenes in August) There are several local shows coming up this month. A very exciting announcement by Dr. Jim Johnson. Gallo Center will have its own repertory theater company: Gallo Center Repertory Company. The first show will be The Diary of Anne Frank: November 3-6. There will be four morning school performances and three public performances. Spoken Word and Singer Songwriter Showcase Saturday August 6 starting at 8pm (doors 7:30pm) A night of local talent performing their original work. The first half will be spoken word artists from the Central Valley, and after a short intermission we will finish the evening with a set of local singer-songwriters. The spoken words artists will be: Alexys Rushing, Brandon Leake, Chad Sokolovsky, Jake Yates, Juniper Sprague, Melchor Sahagun III, Nena Larieze, and Summer Krafft Musician’s Appearing: Ben Baxter Brye, Mattea Overstreet, and Uri Rodriguez Tickets will be $10 cash at the door. With lightning speed, August is already here! From hot August nights to back to school, we can all benefit from healthy eating to give us that extra boost. We are so fortunate to live here where the 2nd largest leafy produce growers, Ratto Bros. of Modesto grows 45+ varieties of vegetables that we can purchase in local supermarkets throughout our communities and find it paired on our plates in so many local restaurants. Being a mother of three adult kiddos, I can still relate to the popular degree of difficulty to get kids to eat their veggies. With the assistance of two twelve-year-old boys, Robert Perry & Matthew Smith, both from Modesto and about to start school at La Loma Junior High, I created some recipes that they actually liked fully loaded with fresh produce! The three of us met up in the state-of-the-art kitchens in Direct Appliances’ showroom. From the moment I entered the place I’m instantly inspired to model my next home around the kitchen showroom; yep, four phenomenal kitchens are better than one! Do not judge me, this is my daydream! ARCHITECTURE New Development to break ground in North Modesto by Barrett Lipomi

The first phase of a new development will break ground soon in Kiernan Business Park East. The development, located on Dale road between Bangs and Kiernan Avenues, will include a hotel, independent senior living community and a memory care facility. The developer will extend Healthcare Way to the east of Dale Road accommodate the new parcels. A memory care facility will be the first building to

be constructed along this new portion of roadway. The proposed single story memory care facility will be part of Koelsch Senior Communities and provide an alternative care facility for those with beginning stages of Alzheimer’s, dementia, memory care, or in need of more on-on-one care, according to the company website. Park at Modesto”, a multi-story independent living facility on an adjacent parcel. Renderings of the proposed buildings show mission style architectural elements including red tile roofs, white stucco walls, stone accents, and wrought iron detailing. The third project currently proposed in this development is a new 96-unit hotel which will sit on the north side of Healthcare Way. Projects like these take enormous effort to become a reality. Close coordination and cooperation between developers, realtors, engineers, architects, and local governing agencies is crucial to bring a successful project together. In talking with PMZ realtor Brian Velthoen, that was certainly the case for this development. Velthoen citied that this project has been a great team effort between the developers, design team, and the City of Modesto planning and engineering staff. Projects like this also have the potential to be catalysts for future development and growth. Hopefully construction of these buildings will spur on future development in the adjacent business park and mixed-use zoned parcels. I’ve said this before, but as architects we are always excited to see new projects break ground. For me it is twofold, I am fascinated with the construction process and watching buildings rise up from the ground, but also excited to see new and improved services and facilities for our community. I’m told by PMZ that when complete, the three proposed projects in Kiernan Park East combined could provide approximately 145-165 new jobs in Modesto.

UNPLUGGED When The Cows Come Home II watched an incredible piece of video recently. Swedish artist Jonna Jinton stood in a pasture on a summer evening, and began to sing the ancient herding call known as ‘kulning.’ It was like a ghostly, medieval-style chant. One of the most glorious things I’ve ever heard. I was apparently not the only one who felt that way - at the sound of her voice, the entire herd of cattle in the distance wandered over and clustered around her. Jonna was awarded the ‘Inspirer Of The Year’ prize in Stockholm earlier this year, and I can certainly see why. Find the video on YouTube, and prepare to be wowed. A few of this month’s musical highlights: Saturday 8/6, the 12th annual Anthony Paul Forakis Scholarship fundraiser will be held at The Portal, 1324 Coldwell Ave. The organization gives music scholarships to graduating H.S. senior and college students from the Modesto area, ages 17-24. Among this year’s musical acts are a bluegrass group featuring Steve Kenworthy, Gavin Bruce, Gary Vessel and friends; the Bruce family band (John Bruce, Gavin Bruce, Dan Bruce and Ryan Wolfgram); prior scholarship recipient Andrew Pardini, who has just completed a summer run with a Colorado

This is a huge gathering of diverse jazz, blues, Latin and world-music acts. At the top of my list to see are Dirty Cello, with their perpetually crowd-pleasing mix of blues, bluegrass, rock and world sounds; and DakhaBrakha, a very inventive and energetic Ukrainian folk-punk quartet with a large arsenal of instrumentation and a dynamic stage show. They’re not quite like any group I’ve heard before - “ethnic chaos,” as they describe themselves. Both acts perform on Sunday afternoon: Dirty Cello performs at 12 PM and DakhaBrakha at 3. INTER Back to School with Dave Menshew by Chris Murphy

I love smart people. I want our leaders to be smart people, we need smart people making the key decisions that affect our future, our planet and our people. Yes friends, I love science. Just how do we make sure that there are generations to come of smart, thinking, analytic people to move our planet forward so we have a future. There is amazing stuff happening here in Modesto where students are taught to think critically and understand the world around them. It is exciting to meet Dave Menshew, teaching at the innovative Biotechnology program at James C Enochs High School. Yes, we have a CSI training grounds here in Modesto USA. Dave was born in Lodi and raised in Modesto from 2nd grade through MJC. He is the son of one of my favorite people ever, Al Menshew, former executive at Gallo Glass (and respected Shriner and Clamper elder) and Vera Menshew (deceased). He went to school at El Vista, Wilson, LaLoma, Downey, graduating in 1972. Dave has Degrees from MJC, CSU Stanislaus, Chapman, Merced College and working on his doctorate at Brandman. His wife Sharon work for Stanislaus County. So let’s meet Dave: ModestoView: Why are STEAM, STEM and Biotech programs so important? Dave Menshew: STEAM, which is the integration of the art into the study of science, technology, engineering and math. The first is something I have said for years, without the arts, the scientists won’t have anything worth researching. Shaw said it best, “without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable. It’s the arts, the music, the sculpture, the paintings the plays and other endeavors that make us human and hopefully give us the understanding of science that will lead us in the direction of its best use for humankind. STEM is all the rest of science for me, that allows us the tools and the option to make people’s lives better. Biotechnology, as it has been applied at Enochs High School, has resulted in many young people becoming engaged in the sciences while giving them solid lab skills that they can apply in future coursework. At the same time, it has helped them develop habits of mind that have served them well in their jobs, colleges and universities.

MV: How do we engage the next wave of students to embrace the scientific method? DM: The scientific method as taught in textbooks isn’t really how science is done. I have seen that in all of my time in a number of research labs. The formalized approach is fine for starters, but I have found that just looking for things that capture students’ interest, such as CSI and Zombies, has worked well for us. We try to build off their existing interests and channel their motivation. We will engage the next wave by being aware of their interests and designing learning opportunities that capture them. MV: Do you feel we have to show the possibilities of what can happen to interest kids in math, like the drag coefficient calculation that would lead to F1 car design, or the rebound calculation you would use to design a full suspension mountain bike? DM: I think that the math associated with the physics you have described should not be frontloaded in the learning experience. Show them the cars doing the activities that illustrate drag coefficient and elastic rebound (when cars hit walls or each other). Engage and add the math. Once you have them interested, the move to the theory.

MV: What myths do you think need to be overcome in this field? DM: In the STEM field in general, there are many myths that exist. The arguments that swirl around evolution, global warming and other hot topics are ways into the dialog. I would again, use the heightened interest these things create in students, and then move to what the data says. I have NO issues with students who want to challenge the status quo in science. I tell them that if they choose not to believe in a theory, then I expect them to educate themselves to be articulate advocates for their position. Challenging science teachers and scientists is an excellent way of engagement. MV: What would help you the most to develop a more successful program at Enochs High. DM: I think we did. Look at the four papers in international media published on our work, at the accolades the students have earned, and the many success stories we hear back from our graduates. We have former students recognized by Forbes and working on doctorates. We have many going on to colleges and universities, and others serving our nation with distinction in the armed forces. This approach is successful. What would help it be more so is greater involvement of the parents. I am very proud how the students have stepped up, I would love to see the parents come out and join us in our activities.

MV: What is one of your biggest surprises when teaching kids in this field? DM: I am constantly amazed at how adept they are at problem solving. We do many things both in and out of the classroom. Our students went out and did 23 public science events at many venues including the State Fair, a university campus, many middle and elementary schools, and especially into areas with high poverty. They enthusiastically took on these challenges and delivered quality hands-on core science concept learning opportunities for kids of all ages. MV: What can parents do to encourage science and biotech thinking when kids are little? DM: We have actually done some research, obtained a grant, and field-tested a new facet of our program called Cocina Ciencia or Kitchen science. Parents, who cross our paths at some of the events our students are working at, get the chance to participate and take home science to teach to their kids. Alternatively, we encourage to search the Internet to find simple, low or no-cost things they can do. Those who contact our program will be given assistance MV: Who were your mentors and inspirations when you were young? DM: Mr. Wizard. I even got a signed picture of him before he passed to that big laboratory in the sky. I also was captivated by pretty much anything science related in the 1950’s when American was responding to the Sputnik event. As I got older, there were many science teachers and others who encouraged me to study science. Perhaps the most influential, were Dr. Doug Kain of Merced College who challenged me to create a biotech program, and Dave Cooper, former director of curriculum development for Modesto City Schools who made the Enochs Program a reality. MV: What do you enjoy the most about teaching? DM: Getting the chance to help young people follow their dreams. As I tell them each year, “I get paid to help give you the tools you need to be successful. Go find something you love and get someone to pay you for doing it I did.” MV: If you had all the budget you needed and were school king for a day, what would you do? DM: We need to engage more kids of all ages in science, with an emphasis on the young women in our population, Hispanics and African Americans. We have great-untapped talent in those three groups, and as a nation are missing the chance to benefit more from their contribution. We need to do all we can to make science

I was a hard core Beatles fan way back in the early 1960’s. I played in a band and we did some Stones, but I was not a fan. As I get older, I like the Stones more and more. Not sure what that means. THE FARM NEWS SCHOOL SAFETY TIPS

Getting ready to go Back to School? We have some suggestions for both adults and children to keep safe. Drivers should remember that as the new school year begins kids will be walking, crossing streets and maybe not be paying attention on their way to school. Parents should talk to their kids about getting to and from school safely. Adults: 1. Don’t text or talk on your phone while driving. Not only is it against the law, it is a good practice to teach your kids. 2. Keep an eye out for hot spots, like marked school zones as well as areas near and around bus stops and bike lanes. 3. Watch out for the unexpected. Children can run out unexpectedly behind other cars. Make sure you follow the speed limit. Yield to crossing guards and be aware of your surroundings on the road. 4. Yield to school buses. Don’t try to over take the bus or go around it. If a bus has a flashing, alternating red light, you are legally required to stop and wait for the light to turn off. 5. Give yourself extra time. School areas are

congested, allow for more time to get where you are going. This will help alleviate stress and avoid accidents. Children: 1. Make sure to practice crosswalk safety.

ModestoView was at the very first Xfest in 2000, and now 17 years later, it has

become one of the biggest and best California music festivals. X Fest has launched the careers of many bands and is one of the big summer staples and successes. But for 2016, X Fest was upended by the City of Modesto and this event will now take place at the San Joaquin Country Fairgrounds were the facilities are perfect for a festival. There will be 20 stages, over 80 bands and the fairgrounds has plenty of easy parking and the all of the stages, nightlife, dancing, food and drink will be conveniently located and easy walking. Headlining this year is hip hop star T Pain and one of the legendary punk bands of all time, Suicidal Tendencies will be an exciting addition. Local bands like CallBox, 17Ten, Nothing But Losers, and Purp Reynolds need to be on your list to see. There are tribute bands, local rock stages, and some of our favorite events like Bushido Wrestling will be there as well as Roller Derby and other fun things to do. Plans for the nominees to be announced and voting to go live is August 15th. That being said, there is still time to get your choices considered. This is the Modesto “Area” Music Awards: so anyone in the 209 can be MAMAnated. Last year the newly added Latin category was long overdue. As was seen with almost the entire audience dancing to the Mike Torres Band (who ended up winning). Each year the MAMAs host one of the most diverse lineups of music from Hip Hop, Rockabilly, Metal and Jazz. Hosted by Chris Murphy and Chris Ricci with special guest trophy girl Heather Brent. It is a night where members from all walks of life and fans from cross genres join together in celebration. For at least one night in the Valley no one is

a loser (just ask two time MetalMama winner Nothing But Losers). Where past, present and future stars come together to honor each other, the venues, the events, the promoters and everything that makes living in the Central Valley so much fun. tlemen named Nathan Kalish from Nashville ,TN; Michael Hooper II from Eureka Springs, Arkansas; and Jimmy Duvall from Dallas, Texas. These three artists have come together to create the band, “Nathan Kalish and the Lastcallers.” Traveling the states- showing off their talents of country and rockabilly styles, more of an American Roots Music. On August, 6th 2016 Nathan and his Lastcallers will be playing at Ralston’s Goat located at 1001 10th Street. Free show, 21Plus beginning at 8pm. Also, coming back from a bit of a musical break is Justin Quigley. Justin plays many instruments; some may know him for his stand up bass slappin’. Justin will be opening the show at 8pm. At times like these, I like to get out early and cower inside mid-day, and return to the outside world when the night is cool. There is plenty to do, so let’s get right to it: Blue Monday Party & Invitational Jam returns to the Barkin’ Dog Grill this August 8th, with Ultra Lounge, special guest Derik Rolando, from the Escovedo Family Band on Latin Percussion. The band is a super-group of all the best players in the area with a 7-piece house band hosting. The Blue Monday Band features:

BLUES Summer in Full Swing by Earl Matthews Hello everyone! I hope your summer is going great and you have all had some chances to get out and see some great bands. Things are heating up and the best cure is some cool music. Starting your month off right is Jeramy Norris and the Dangerous Mood hosting the Thursday Night Blues Jam at Garlic Brothers in Stockton on the 4th. On the 5th you have 2 great options: you can go check out the Sunshines at the Cowtrack or head up the hill to Black Oak to check out yours truly Big Earl and the Cryin’ Shame at Black Oak Casino. Then again back at Black Oak on the 6th is Shane Dwight bringing his brand of smokin’ hot blues to the Motherload. On Sunday the 6th Joe Louis Walker will be a Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz, save a seat for me because this is one I don’t want to miss. Also on the 7th is Matt Schofield at the Auburn Placer Performing arts Center. Matt is a guitar master and a blues hall of fame member. I have had the pleasure of seeing him twice and I also

cover one of his songs. Matt is considered to be on of the best blues guitar players living today. Then on the 13th Rob Hill Band will be at P.Wexfords in Modesto. Then turn right around and be at Deva Café Modesto for breakfast the next morning. Rob calls his style Jazzy Blue, I call is soulful and emotional. You should try to make one if not both of these shows. August 14th will also mark the return of the Lodi Blues and Brews Festival featuring Jeramy Norris, Shad Harris and the Tule Cats. Last year this event sold out so if you are thinking about going make sure to purchase your tickets in advance. I know its a little bit out of the blues wheelhouse but I really like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. They put on one hell of a show and if you want to see what I’m talking about you can head to the Merced Theater on the 18th and catch them live. Last but not least on the 27th in Ceres at River Oaks Golf Course will be the second annual Smoke on the River BBQ cookoff and festival. This year’s featured acts are Patty Davis Band, California Outlaws and Big Earl and the Cryin’ Shame. This is an event for the whole family and I hope to see you there. Hey Modesto! Hopefully you all had a stellar summer break and are as amped for the school year as I am. The beginning of school is always so exciting to me; new supplies, new teachers and old friends. The start of school is also great because you can improve your studying habits!! Another exciting part about the end of summer is the app stores new trending game, Pokémon Go! If you haven’t tried this game out, I highly suggest that you do. The closest I have to “gaming experience” is playing Club Penguin in the 4th grade, and I’ve been having a blast. This interactive game has created a serious sense of community in all locations, enabling people to feel comfortable enough to strike up conversation with anyone else playing the game. It genuinely forces you to get out of the house and get to know your surroundings better. It’s an extremely unique activity that you can do literally anytime or anywhere...and it’s absolutely free. Another sweet thing that happened last month was the State Theatre’s showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. It was described to me as one of the most interesting, totally new experiences you wouldn’t expect in Modesto, but amazing just the same. On August 13th, it’s coming back; costumes, props and all. FIT Green Fitness by Efren Martinez When I think of fitness I start with the kind of apparel one needs such as shorts, dry tech clothing and some sort of cycling or running shoe. None of which generally come in plaid or seen much of the golf course. Still, golf is a great, fun form of fitness, much like walking. But wait, I don’t see too many golfers that actually walk the golf course, but instead drive a golf cart. Seriously, I personally don’t think I could get into a cardio zone heart level while driving around the golf course to my next hole. Regardless, after a full day of “putting” around 19 holes you’re exhausted. Even though golf may not be an aerobic workout it is and can be a good way to engage a healthy lifestyle in a first level kind of way. Don’t get me wrong, I like golf and it’s a comfortable way to tighten your core, increase mobility and enjoy the sunshine. This is probably why so many professional athletes play golf. Ok so it’s not a

high impact workout, big deal. You’re out there instead of being an arm chaired athlete, you’re getting in some kind of fitness and I’m proud of you. Below are a few tips on how to maximize your golf “fitness” experience: 1. Hit the putting rage for at least 20 minutes before and after a full round of golf. 2.Wear sunscreen, protective clothing and a hat. 3. Avoid drinking alcohol or sugary drinks while on the course. Instead drink water. 4. Take turns with your golf buddy in driving the golf cart. Walk your clubs to the next hole instead of sitting in the passenger seat of the golf cart. 5. Stretch before and after your game. 6. Golf early in the morning so you’re able to have the rest of the day to do other activities. 7. Wear ankle weights on the course, but take them off when you’re ready to make that hole in one.

I need to move and I want to see my teacher and the people in my class.” What motivates us in general are the things we want to have, or do, or need for our survival. Our dreams and wishes motivate us to work to have more money, more status, more freedom. We want to improve our game, express our talents, go where we haven’t gone before. We yearn for peace, love and connection. We want to stay feeling young, alive and in good health. We want to have fun. Maybe someone made an impression on us, inspired us and we feel motivated to explore in this direction further. Sometimes it is an impasse or a crisis that

motivates us. Hardship and pain have finally brought us to search for solutions. If we are really honest with ourselves, it is not that we have been served bad circumstances and bad influences and are now helpless. Most of the time it is our own choice to stay stuck and resigned, often with an overwhelming sense of anxiety, leaving us to sit at home and withdraw. We indulge our minds with negative thinking and our bodies with bad habits. We procrastinate. The question is: How do we climb out of this pit? It will take effort. The trick is to ignore our laziness and fears and spring into action. Nike’s motto wraps it up so well: ‘Just do it.’ Be consistent. Look for support, if doing it on your own seems too hard. Just doing it and making the effort continuously and regularly is the secret to turning life around in your favor. It is actually that first thought that we want to lose weight, quit a bad habit or do something we haven’t done before: once followed by action it will be what motivates us to keep doing it. Energy promotes more energy. Eventually we will stop limiting ourselves and can experience our full potentials and the joy in life that we all deserve. Friday night music in the Plaza. This is the capper of your week. We have so many Modesto Area Music Association bands that are so very talented and they are performing in the plaza weekly.
