These are exciting times living with boxes, a microwave and a coffee machine. We had been in our old house, that we really loved, for over 20 years. It was really sad to go. When we moved back to Modesto in 1996, we picked this house because it was near Lakewood School as we were moving back to Modesto to live a life to raise our kids, focus on community and to really focus on being a family. We became part of the neighborhood and we will always be a Lakewood family and our girls have had the best experience of Lakewood, LaLoma, Modesto High and then UC Berkeley. Madison (now working for Adobe) and Ryan have moved back to Modesto and they too have moved to the Lakewood neighborhood and so we continue to be Lakewood parents. Modesto is really a collection of fantastic neighborhoods. They are what you make it and our community really does band together and try to make the places we all live better. We have now moved into the LaLoma Neighborhood and we have been welcomed with open arms and we could not be happier. Everyone has been so nice, and we live on a street that actually has some traffic where people are walking by all the time and we have get-togethers in the park across the street and many neighbors where I can “borrow a glass of wine”. We love it and the process of moving has made me love Modesto even more. We so excited to live in the LaLoma Neighborhood, meet more friends and enjoy the perks of an easy walk or bike ride to downtown Modesto. Life is full of new adventures.

People call me “Mr. Modesto” and that is so very nice. It is an honor to celebrate the good things happening and to be really involved in community events and issues. I have found so many people that I meet that are also Mr., Mrs., Ms. or Mx. Modesto in their own way. I meet people like this every day and that is why we work so hard to bring ModestoView to the community each month. We need to know our good stories, meet the people you may not hear about all the time and champion the people that actually make and do things. There are a lot of people that like to have a lot meetings and talk about doing things, but I love the people that make things happen. The artists, the musicians, the promoters, the planners, the builders, the electricians, the city and county employees that see the possibilities, not the obstacles. We all are Modesto and I am so glad that you are reading this and telling your friends. Did I ever mention that I LOVE October? 1st,

Halloween is a national holiday at our house. For years we have been haunting up our culde-sac and I hope to continue this here at our new house. Can you say epic spiderweb tunnel? In this issue, we tried to compile a lot of cool haunted, creepy and harvest things for you to do. 2nd, October to me has always been ROCKTOBER. Live music is near and dear to my heart. From my own band to the over 200 different bands and musicians in our community, live music is one of the keys to good living. That is why Chris Ricci and I created the Modesto Area Music Awards way back in 2000. Now 17 years later, some of nominees weren’t born when we started the MAMAs and we will celebrate from the historic State Theatre on Oct 11. Live music is special, it makes a community vibrant, it attracts the creative people that make and do things. See how this all connects? That is why it is so important to eat local, live local, listen local and shop local. Thank you to the fantastic businesses that advertise here in ModestoView, you are helping us keep our mission to be 100% positive, 100% local and 100% interesting each and every day. COMMUNITY What’s New in the Neighborhoods by Maryann Spikes La Loma Neighborhood Develops Native Plant Garden: An idea to transform a blighted area in the La Loma neighborhood has blossomed into a community native garden project. Several La Loma volunteers, led by Rhonda Allen, have already spent many hours preparing the land for use. The native plant garden, located at 1805 Encina Avenue, will include the promotion of water conservation by using drought-tolerant plants, and will increase habitat for pollinators.Many hands will be able to plant and maintain the garden as it grows, including on Love Modesto day (April 8, 2017 – project signups begin this fall). This was not gang related and did not involve drugs. Both shooters have been placed in custody. These crimes were committed in the East Rumble road area.” Another neighbor on Nextdoor. com agreed, “I’m glad to know that the statistics show that all sorts of crimes are down from last year. I was also glad to hear that the PD is actively recruiting and training new officers. ART Trick or Treat by Jim Christiansen The Trick is writing the column with the usual Art in Modesto event and show information, and getting in some plugs for my birthday month and shows I’ve got going. Café DEVA has a new art hanging system, and my art is first to hang from it, through this month. Other artists are being added as I write the column, and they have new local music cd area on the wall between music icons. My art in the Mistlin Gallery Autumn Art Festival members show, on the same wall as the People’s Choice Award, last to be announced, won by Chelsea America for her water color, “Your Wife Sucks” satiric view of domestic chores like vacuuming. The CCAA Members Show at Mistlin will continue to October 24. A couple of classes to note at Mistlin, are four-week session “Inspiring Women in Art” with Susan Rossman on Saturdays, starting October 8, and Patrick Barr’s “Cartooning for Kids” meeting Wednesday afternoons starting October 26. Patrick has been hosting Art Classes over at Queen Bean recently, and very good with students. Queen Bean was the Site of the Modesto Artist Salon Group Show September 17, pretty well attended by group artists and visitors. They’ll be back again, but their October gig is Harvest Festival in downtown Modesto October 15. It is an all-day event, and while I am a group member, my contribution is one of the canopies. I’m tied up doing my Birthday Open Studio over October 14, 15 and 16, before I’m retirement age on Monday. My hours will be 1 pm to 5 pm, with the garage studio open, dining room gallery, and most of the art up for sale. I have a lot, and this will help me get ready for the April county wide Open Studio. This Open Studio a new version of my annual October adventure, so feel free to come by, talk, view, even possibly pose for art. Merced Art Hop takes place Saturday October 15, about the time I close, so might see you there. Come by Ralston’s Goat for Comedy Show after Art Walk to find the funny and party to cap the week. Art Walk map did add some new stops, and I got to open in September for Doubletree Hotel, with featured music guest Mattea Overstreet. Downtown Tinkertank, Never

Carnegie Art Center Ends its run October 9 of the Yosemite Renaissance XXX1 show celebrating the Carnegie and National Park Service 100-year anniversary. Show to watch for, the annual Memorial Complementary Therapy Show at Misting Gallery opens October 25. After that, the Home for the Holidays Show November 20, with the emphasis of the scary idea of Buy Art from Local Artists. Which is another reason I’m doing an Open Studio at my house, as I’ve had good luck in that department. The Market at La Comisaria is THE best small market in town. And they have a craft beer section to put all others to shame. It brings exposure to the market as a whole, because sure as the day a craft beer lover is born, craft beer lovers find craft beer. No matter what brightly colored building it may be hiding in. We discovered the Market, and met with manager Patrick Chinn, so you would have the scoop! These days craft beer seems everywhere. We are truly in a craft beer craze. “Feedback from customers in the store I last worked at was that customers wanted craft beer. Good craft beer. And they also didn’t want to have to go to multiple stores to do all their grocery shopping. We solved that problem. We hope we are everyone’s one-stop grocer, especially as we expand.” says Patrick. “Beer is my passion. I want our beer selection to be exceptional. I hold it to my very high standards as a beer enthusiast.” Oh, it is exceptional! The section of craft beer is worth driving from Turlock or Manteca for. They have local Dust Bowl, quasi-local Mikkeler or ToolBox, and dozens upons dozens of beers from all over the world! We’re not knockin’ BevMo’s selection, we love BevMo, but for a prime example of craft beer, look no further than The Market. Light, dark, doesn’t matter. Ales, pilsners, hoppy IPAs, stouts, sours, you like it, they carry it. Try a new brand. Try a new flavor. They even carry ciders, meads and wines. So stop in, pick out a new drink to try, head to the deli for some delicious bacon wrapped asparagus or chipotle apple sausage (they have plenty of other yummies too), then make one last stop down the condiment isle to grab some Sierra Nevada Porter Mustard. Your taste buds will enjoy it all! MV: What is your favorite beer? PC: My go-to is an IPA. I also love sours, and imperial stouts. Ok, actually I like a lot of beer! I push the envelope

with distributors to get new, fresh, exciting beer here so we can all enjoy it. If you don’t ask, you might not get it! Always ask. The same goes for my customers. You want us to carry a particular brand? Let us know! MV: Why Modesto? PC: Modesto has a conscious unlike any other city I’ve lived in. Everyone wants to make it better. We hoped to spark 7th Street, make this street better. I think we’ve done that. Pour into your community and be the change you want to see. Make the difference yourself. We also rotate beers often, for freshness and to always have something new. Come in for deals because when we rotate out, we discount the beer. Also, we sell beer by the kegs! We were specifically looking for some harvesty, Halloweeny beverages, and these are our picks for you! The Jolly Pumpkin’s Cucurbitophobia Ale (which means “fear of pumpkins”), which is a barrel aged ale brewed with blood orange zest and juice, black lava salt as well as a rainbow peppercorn blend. If you dislike pumpkin beer (we do!), but still want to try a seasonal blend, this is a good one to try. No pumpkin spice in this beer! The Zombies Take Manhatten Mead by BNektor. It’s apple & cherry honey mead ages in rye whiskey barrels. A dried mead but packed with flavor! (BNektar has some other great seasonal flavors, such as Black Fang and Necromangocon.)

Mmmm is for Minnie’s! by Dana Johnson Restaurants, no matter what city seem to come and go, but Minnie’s on Mc Henry in Modesto has been in business since 1954 according to owner, Stuart Mah! That is an astounding 62 years! According to Modesto View’s very own Chris Murphy it is the oldest continuingoperating restaurant in Modesto in the same location. Stuart told me Minnie’s actually was the very first house built on McHenry and it was originally on the corner. I love that Minnie’s was renovated into a restaurant, full bar, with a huge patio and a second bar! There is also a banquet room if you wanted to host a party. In one of the dining rooms is the original fireplace and mantle that adds more character and charm to this tiki-themed establishment! Now that you are inclined to come to Minnie’s to feel the history and the nostalgia, be sure to bring your appetite with you. The menu may leave you with some difficult decisions to make if you are like me, you’ll want to try it all! The late morning trip to Minnie’s started out with a “Jerk!” and Chris Murphy! LOL, no, no, no Chris is no jerk, but he was there to share my experience! The “Jerk” is Minnie’s signature slushy 21 & over only cocktail named by Pete Mah! Long time server there, Susana told me it is a secret recipe & they have great Mai Tai’s, too! Chris told me it is no secret that the straw is filled with 151 proof rum and warned me “Do not stir your Jerk!” The 1st sip was a mighty one! We sat down; no we didn’t fall down from the

“jerk”, to a wonderful array of Minnie’s best. I was told the potstickers are legendary! Bartender at Minnie’s for a congratulatory 25 years is Diane! Good sound makes a band. This is not only an engineering skill, it is an art, and we are so very lucky to have some really talented people in our community that are doing seriously professional sound. Modesto Sound is a local treasure and has now recorded over 800 teen musicians, worked with 182 youth interns to learn job skills, and held hundreds of community radio shows and concerts. This is a professional and affordable way to make and produce music. Please join fellow music fans for this amazing fundraiser at the Portal. Mark Oesau, once an intern at Modesto Sound, now has his own sound company and continues to give back to teens who once like himself wanted to learn more about audio technology. His reggae band A’ La Lune will be performing at this year’s event. He also works

with Leonard Bowlin and they did an amazing job doing sound for Grandaddy’s first show in four years in Modesto a few months ago. This is so very cool as longtime Grandaddy producer Lucky Lew is one of the advisors at Modesto Sounds. Professional training for professional careers. UNPLUGGED Rock, Block, And One Smoking Carroll I saw an incredible documentary not long ago called ‘The Music Of Strangers.’ It chronicles the formation and evolution of the Silk Road Ensemble, a collective of virtuoso musicians from across the planet who banded together to promote cross-cultural creative collaboration. The project was founded by world-renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma almost 20 years ago, and has more than twenty regular members and over three times that many collaborators. The film follows the lives and struggles of five ensemble members, both on tour with the band and back in their home countries. It also highlights some wonderful but less widely known instruments played by certain members, such as the gaita (Galician bagpipes), pipa (Chinese lute), and kamancheh (Iranian fiddle.) It’s a musing on culture, philosophy and politics, and how they all interweave with music. One of the best cinematic experiences I’ve had all year. Imagine my surprise when I recognized one of the ensemble members’ names. Hardly a week before seeing the film, I had arranged for the providing of sound tech for a concert happening this month, which happens to feature none

Yo-Yo Ma has called this multi-style cellist, composer, and educator “the ideal musician of the twentyfirst century.” He’ll be performing in a duo with Hanneke Cassel, a Scottish fiddle champion and one of the many Silk Road collaborators. Hanneke fuses influences from the Isle of Skye and Cape Breton Island with musical innovations from the hip Boston bluegrass/ Americana scene to create a uniquely American approach to Scottish music. The concert is a fundraiser for Patterson city councilman Dominic Farinha, and darned if I’m not going to move in with my good friend who lives there so I can give him my vote. Modesto is special because of the many innovative and creative people in our community. There are those that do and those that talk about doing and ModestoView loves the people that DO things, make things happen, and create things. Since this is October and we love Halloween, we are going to celebrate this month as much as we can and since this is ROCKtober as well, we will be celebrating the music in our community at the MAMA Awards and also with the California Women’s Music Festival. We would like you to meet two amazing people that make this season special, Dana Walters of DayDreams and Nightmares and Victoria Boyington, of the California Women’s Music Festival. Daydreams and Nightmares on 7th St is mission control for every dress up event and is the epicenter of all things paranormal in our community. We can always count on them to support our crazy cover and theme ideas and they can make any event you can think of special. Plus they give back to our community with the Every 15 Minutes program and so much more. Plus, DayDreams is located where a crematorium used to be. Let’s meet Dana. ModestoView: What excites you most about this time of the year? Dana Walters: This time of year I get excited watching the people of Modesto come into my shop excited about the parties they are having & how they want to look the best at their parties with costumes & make-up. MV: You participate in the supernatural all year long, what are some of the things that give you chills in the night? DW: Hearing footsteps behind you & no one is there. I sneezed one time at the shop & someone said “bless you” ! I was alone at the time. When I first bought the building (funeral home) I was there by myself & felt like someone was in the shop with me , so I took out my camera took two pictures 1st pic looked normal , the second one had a weird light showing & you can see a man standing in the doorway! That scared me & I left quickly. MV: What are some of the craziest costumes you have done for people? DW: One of the craziest costumes we did was for Anderson’s towing company! They came to us & wanted a tow truck costume! We made it for them! It matched their trucks they use everyday! We also made a toothbrush for a local dentist.

MV: Since you are located in a former crematorium, does that make this kind of work extra special? DW: I feel being in an old funeral & crematorium adds to my shop, there is history & stories here. Just like with each & every costume we have. For example I have some of my mother’s old 1950’s authentic clothing. In perfect shape & ready for rentals. My mother used to always sing on the radio with her father & brother who went on to play at the Grand Ole Opry. MV: What is something you want everyone to know about you and DayDreams and Nightmares? DW: Not only are we a costume & make up store but we do far more through out the year. We work with the police dept. helping doing mock shooting drills. We also do the make up at a lot of the high schools for the Every 15 Minutes program. So when we are helping a customer we can tell you by experience what works & what doesn’t! We don’t just sell the products, we use and create them. We are also active in Stanislaus county foster care program. We volunteer doing make up for the county Foster kids at the annual backpack parties. We use costumes & come to the annual Christmas Parties & the community donates at our shop during Christmas for the kids with no permanent homes! We donate to helping Enoch’s High School Forensics & Bio Tech Classes, by doing zombie lab mishaps for educating kids of Stanislaus County. Music Fest

5 question with Victoria Boyington I was raised in a family of women and my wife Rebecca is a champion of raising strong girls and we celebrate their accomplishments and their possibilities. It is in this vein that we celebrate the amazing women in music and want to encourage people in our community to support the California Women’s Music Festival and Workshops on October 22 at the Gallo Center. We caught up with event chairperson Victoria Boyington; who not only is the chair, she is a mother if eight, is in multiple bands and is a teacher; for some additional insight on this event. ModestoView: Why a women’s music festival? Victoria Boyington: This event is all about supporting women in music and all areas the music industry. California Women’s Music Festival gives women in this area a chance to gain skills necessary to host a larger scale event. This year we have reached out to Central Valley High School and UOP music, photography and film students expanding the opportunities for mentoring young women. Central Valley High School’s Kari Copley will be bringing in young women interested in film and photography giving our youth a chance to utilize their skills in a live setting. This event is all about creating opportunities for women. MV: What do can people expect from this event? VB: People can expect an excellent show with amazing women in music. We have Grammy Award Winning Songwriter Paula Cole, Blues Guitarist Samantha Fish, Dilana from RockStar Supernova, an all female Zeppelin band and an amazing bluegrass touring band, Urban Pio-

neers, not to mention all the talented daytime performers coming to us from Los Angeles, Napa, Tennessee, and from The Central Valley. Music lovers will enjoy a variety of female headliners at a time when large festivals are not billing women as headliners. We also have presentations by Without Permission, a local anti-human trafficking organization and Alana Scott of WELL to help build awareness about women’s issues. Expect a day filled with great music and education. MV: Is there an age where it is toll late to get involved? VB: There is no age limit. This year we go back to our roots and encourage women of all ages to come support women in music, business, education and the fine arts. Our organization is dedicated to helping women across the life span. This is an event where you can bring your daughters, mothers, brothers, and the whole family to enjoy women musicians. MV: What can you learn? VB: You will learn about the anti-trafficking organization Without Permission and their efforts to help free women from trafficking in our community. I think people would be amazed at what is going on throughout the central valley. It’s a national problem that begins with education at the micro level, which starts here at home. We will also have information about Sacramento Girls Rock Camp and Soundgirls. org. MV: What are you most excited about for the California Women’s Music Festival? VB: I am excited about the venue and the outstanding job they have done so far. We are lucky to have such a beautiful venue in town. We are also excited about all of the exceptionally talented women coming to Modesto this fall. This year’s festival is going to be amazing. I hope people take advantage of the opportunity our town has to host such a landmark festival. This is California Women’s Music Festival and it is happening here.

FFA FFA Is Much More by Josephine Henderson When most people think of FFA, they think

When I think of FFA, I think of helping others, reaching out to my community, and helping the world become a better place, one helping hand at a time. At Central Catholic High School, FFA has become one of the most popular organizations offered. Although we do love showing at the fair and talking about the latest ag fad, we also value the importance of community outreach. One volunteer service the president of our FFA officer team, David Philips, just started is his LTS, or Living to Serve. David’s plan is centered on the idea of increasing access to education in our area. He calls it “Connections and Classroom Success.” He tries to reach out to students in the Modesto area, going to a different school every month. His most recent project included going to St. Stanislaus school and teaching kindergarteners and third graders about pigs! Another way Central Catholic FFA helps out in the community is through our monthly com-

Our FFA teachers also like to get kids involved in volunteering locally. This year, we have plans to plant a garden at St. Stanislaus. By doing so , we will be helping kids become more involved in agriculture along with helping them explore potential careers in ag. As you can see, the FFA Organization does get a kick out of cowboy boots and winning local speaking competitions, but we also love to serve our wonderful city Modesto!

BLUES October Ready by Earl Matthews Hello everyone, fall is here and I for one am ready! October is my favorite month because it’s my birthday, and this year I am turning 40. It’s going to be extra special for sure. Right out the gate we have two fun options on October 1st: You can check out Rob Hill band at the 50’s Roadhouse in Knight’s Ferry. It’s a fun place and you can always head up a little early and watch the sunset first. Another great option is up at Black Oak Casino AC Miles the talented Blues Rock guitar monster from Fresno is playing all night. Either way you can’t lose. Then we jump ahead to the 8th and Rob Hill band will be over at P.Wexfords, no cover, great food and a huge selection of draft beer. Also on the 8th is the 3rd annual DB Project fundraiser for the Center For Human Services, specifically for the 2 youth homeless shelters they run called Pathways and Hutton House. I will be performing this year with Big Earl and the Cryin’ Shame and for the first time ever we will have a 3 piece horn section. I couldn’t be more excited folks. This is my 40th Birthday show and its for a great cause, I really hope you

They play a mix of Soul, Funk and R&B that is sure to get you in the groove. On the 22nd at the Gallo Center is the Northern California Women’s Music Festival. This year features 11 acts, headliners include Zapparella, Dilana, Samantha Fish and Paula Cole. Big Earl and the Cryin’ Shame will be there as well. Detachment by Mary Layton Recently I had a small car accident. For a couple of days I obsessed about it. Because I was continually thinking about I was making myself irritable and tired. I found that when I practiced T’ai Chi or played music my mind became quiet and detached itself from the incident leaving me feel rejuvenated. Since then the idea of detachment is growing on me. Instead of letting emotions govern life a more objective experience may be needed, letting things come and go as they happen. Detachment may mean distancing oneself emotionally from whatever is troublesome, including people. Or turning away from the media and the phones. Or living the life of a hermit who tries to get away from it all. How do you find detachment? There are deep and spiritual reasons to learn about detachment. Detachment is part of a mindfulness practice and found in many spiritual teachings. In Buddhism attachment is viewed as a precursor to suffering. Wether you love and care about something or if you hate and despise it, attachment will not allow you

to move on. It’s like a chain binding you. You can learn detachment through meditation. Detachment is a choice : It may mean to detach from old reactions and old fears that create expectations, judgements and conflict. Detaching from sadness and frustration, longing and disappointment could turn a person’s life around. Underneath it all lies a trust that there is a Higher Power that will take care of things. Detachment is a shift in attitude and involves a conscious effort to concentrate on taking really good care of oneself. With more than a few choices of running clubs out there it can be a bit difficult to chose the right fit if your a runner. There is (A) The ShadowChase running club which is not only the biggest running club, but also the most competitive club out there with some of the fastest runners in our area as members. The ShadowChasers also have timing services and produce a great deal of their own races. Then you have (B) The Dusty Bottoms Trail runners. If you like to run, love beer and care less about fartlicks and speed training, this running club is defiantly for you. The Dusty Bottom trail runners are a down to earth and energetic group of runners. They don't do any kind of timing services for races nor do they produce them. Instead they sport weekly fun runs that always end up with a few social beers in both hands. As you can imagine they definitely have a great deal of fun with their weekly runs that always include laughter and comradely. If large clubs and or drinking beer after your

run isn't for you, may I suggest you check out option (C), The ABC Fitness running club. With about 454 facebook likes they are quickly moving to be the new style when it comes to running clubs. The club embraces each other for their common love of the sport, running. Just recently I spoke with my friend, Jennifer Neal, to give me the scoop on what the club is all about. Jennifer Neal, "We average a very small group of about 4-5 people on our weekly runs. We like to also refer to our group as the Sunrise Run Club. We run at 5 am every Tuesday and Thursday, so a majority of the time we see the sunrise. Most of the runners start off just wanting to run local 5Ks. After they see their potential, they go on a do 10Ks, half marathons and marathons. We even tackled the Ragar Trail Run in Lake Tahoe this year. We love to push our comfort zone, try new running events and have a good time." Awesome! As your fitness editor, this sounds like it could be a nice fit for some, it brings and co-insights a little from both of the above (A&B) running clubs. No matter your

preference of club, it is great to get the support and involvement of others. Perhaps it's just me, but what got my attention of The ABC Fitness running club was the one word in it's club name, "Fitness."

so naturally these fall months have me feeling wonderful. After a long, hectic summer, it feels so great to be back into the swing of things. With influence from friends and family, I have always had a strong will to try new things that interest me. Even having this fortunate trait, it was still a challenge for me to expand my horizons in high school. Finally in the midst of my Junior year, I really feel like I’ve figured myself out; what I like to do and who with. It doesn’t take a lot to be content with your life and you can make transitions every day, at any age to combat daily disputes. Through trial and error, I have learned that having a daily dance party is vital to my high spirits each day. Whether it’s in the car on your way to work or when you get home from school, I highly reccomend this form of stress relief. If you prefer having a structured schedule, perhaps sign up for a weekly Zumba, Yoga, or Art class. At any age, stretching yourself socially and intellectually is said to help you greater appreciate each day! If you check out the “Modesto View Event Calendar” online, there are tons of new cool things to do. Some things that caught my eye were the “Queen Bean Open Mic Sundays” and “Guess That Tune Tuesdays” at the Twisted

Pig! I’ve been to both of these events and it’s an awesome experience seeing so many people who are interested in the same music as me. Of course we cannot deny that the most exciting part of this month is not only the much-needed temperature drop, but also the abundance of Halloween festivities! For families looking for a friendly day-outing, Dell’Osso Farms has always been a classic. Between the corn maze, pumpkin blasters, ziplines, pumpkin patch, food court and of course the haunted house, there is something to entertain everyone. For the adrenaline-seeking Halloween lovers, I highly recommend checking out the “California Haunted Houses” website. An extremely hyped Modesto attraction is called “Deathworkz”, which is advertised as an intense horror walkthrough/interactive show with actors and haunting sets. The coolest thing about this program is that it is completely non-profit and created for and by people who love Halloween! Check out their website www.deathworkz.com to see all of their varied themes for each night. I’m so amped for October, Modesto is a great place to be this time of the year!! One of my top Autumn songs is called “Eyes” by Rogue Wave and another is “Cracklin’ Rosie” by Neil Diamond. I hope you have a dancy, spooky, October! Much Love!

COMEDY It is election season so we need to laugh now more than ever. There are some great laughs coming up this month. The SF Comedy Competition finals will be at the Gallo Center on October 1. After this big start, there’s more to come. The Creator & host of Comedy Central Roast Battle, Brian Moses will be Performing Friday October 9 at the Tilted Turtle on 710 N 9th St at 9PM. Cultural Diversity Celebration

Food, entertainment and fun are all part of the upcoming Annual Cultural Diversity Celebration in downtown Modesto hosted by Stanislaus County and City of Modesto. The free event is open to the public and takes place on Wednesday October 5, 2016 from 11:30a.m. to 1:30p.m. at 1010 10th Street Place in the courtyard. The event includes musicians and dancers, informational booths, food trucks, prize drawings and more.
