Welcome to the Lexington Local Schools and thank you for supporting our students with your attendance. We are thankful to be part of a community that understands and values the importance of a well-rounded educational experience, and we are grateful that our staff, parents, and school community work together to provide wonderful academic, athletic, and fine arts opportunities for our students.

Our students give a great deal of their time and energy to balancing the demands of their academic work and the preparation necessary to be successful in their extracurricular activities. Thank you for your attendance tonight, and your support of the student athletes, cheerleaders and musicians from both schools. These young people have practiced many hours to prepare for tonight’s contest. They’ve made many sacrifices along the way, as they attempt to handle both the demands of the classroom, and the demands of their team or activity. Your support of their efforts is greatly appreciated.

We are also thankful for the families that encourage these young people, and the communities that show such great pride in and support of our school systems. It is our hope that your experience at Lexington High School will be a good one. Please enjoy the contest, have fun cheering for your team, and return home safely.

MINUTEMEN FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF

Andrew Saris - Head Coach

Coach Saris is excited to be entering his second year as Lexington High School’s Head Coach. He previously spent 11 years at Madison Comprehensive High School as a chemistry teacher, assistant football coach, and Head Coach of the track team. Coach Saris graduated from Smithville High School (‘05) and was part of the state runner-up (‘02) and state semi-final (‘04) football teams. He went on to graduate from Walsh University (‘10) where he continued his track career. He loves spending time with his beautiful wife Erin, and wonderful children Henry (4) and Mia (2). Coach Saris is the Dean of Students at Lexington High School.

Jamie Masi - Defensive Coordinator

This fall is Coach Masi’s 31st season coaching football. He has been the head coach at West Jefferson, New Albany, Delaware Hayes, Mansfield Senior, and Madison high schools. Jamie and his wife Maria live in Lexington and are very proud of their three daughters Abbie, Sophie, and Gracie. Abbie graduated from Lexington in 2019 and attends Ohio University. Sophie graduated from Lexington in 2022 and attends Miami University. Gracie is currently a junior here at Lexington High School. Coach Masi is the defensive coordinator and works primarily with the linebackers.

Jacob Owens - Offensive Coordinator

Coach Owens joins the staff as Offensive Coordinator and QB coach this year. He graduated from Marietta College and played 4 years of basketball there, winning 3 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. Previously, he spent the last 5 seasons at Mansfield Sr as OC/QB coach. Coach Owens won a regional championship and was part of the state runner up team in 2019. Jacob and his fiancé Sarah Fogle live in Lexington with their children. Coach Owens is an avid Browns & OSU fan.

Jeff Strickler - Special Teams Coordinator

Coaching the running backs and kickers, Coach Strickler is in his 41st season of coaching high school varsity football. Jeff coached at Alexandria-Monroe High School, Indiana, for 14 years (7 as head coach) prior to coming to Lexington in 1996. Jeff was also the head baseball coach at Lexington for 12 years and had returned to the diamond to coach JV baseball the past three years. A graduate of Ontario High School (1977) and Anderson University (1982), Jeff teaches AP Chemistry, Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Jeff and his wife Karen reside in Lexington as well as daughter Megan and granddaughters Chloe and McKenna.

Montrell Caldwell - Assistant Coach

Coach Caldwell begins his 1st year coaching football for the Minutemen, where he will focus on the offensive and defensive lines. Coach Caldwell graduated from Mansfield Senior where he was a three-time All-Ohioan.

Dalton Fix - Assistant Coach

Coach Fix is starting his first year as a varsity assistant coach at Lexington. He coaches the defensive backs. As a Madison graduate, class of 2013, Coach Fix was a 2 time All-OCC & All-District selection. He was also All-Ohio his senior year. After graduation he played football at Marietta College for 2 seasons and later transferred and played at UCF. Coach Fix is currently a Project Manager at CK Construction. Though being a Madison Grad, Coach Fix has Lexington ties as his wonderful mother Dawn Coulter graduated from LEX in the class of 1991. Coach Fix resides in Madison with his loving girlfriend Megan Cramer and their dogs Neko, Oscar, and Theo.

Mike Moore - Assistant Coach

Coach Moore is excited to be entering his first-year coaching and teaching at Lexington High School. Coach Moore spends his free time with his amazing wife Shanna and his two boys Owen (4) and Mason (1). GO LEX!

6 2023 - 2024 Lexington Minutemen Game Day Program

MINUTEMEN FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF

John Murray - Assistant Coach

Coach Murray is entering his first year coaching varsity football here at Lexington and will be the offensive line coach. He fully intends to build a unit that will set the tone for games and leave the opposing defense hobbled and sore. Graduating from Armwood HS (Seffner, FL) in '02 as a 1st team All County Offensive Lineman at the guard position, he reached the State Semi-Finals in '00. Coach is definitely not the typical "Florida Man" after spending 5 years in the state up north playing Division II football for Northwood University (Midland, MI) graduating in '07. He enjoys picking things up and putting them down repeatedly at the gym when he and his wife Elizabeth aren't wrangling their 3 kids, Georgia (3), Jackson (8), Colin (11).

Jim Steele - Assistant Coach

Coach Steele is starting his second year as a varsity assistant coach at Lexington. He coaches the defensive line and serves as the football strength and conditioning coach. Prior to joining the varsity staff, he coached Lexington’s 7th and 8th grade for 2 years. Coach Steele teaches health and weight training classes at the high school. Coach Steele served 12 years in the United States Army as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician with 52nd EOD Group and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Coach Steele resides in Lexington with his amazing wife Christy, two sons Brandon (15) and Tyler (12), and his daughter Madilyn (7).

Nathan West - Assistant Coach

Coach West is a first year coach here at LHS as a Linebacker coach. Coach West graduated from Madison High School (‘18) where he was a wide receiver/linebacker and hurdled for the track and field team all 4 years. He was coached by both Coach Saris and Coach Masi while at Madison. He currently resides in Ontario with his girlfriend Taylor, two dogs (Maverick & Gunnar) and is expecting his 1st child in September. Coach West is excited to coach his first season with the Minutemen in the 2023-2024 season.

Luke Rogers - Head Freshman Coach

Coach Rogers is excited for his second year coaching the freshmen football team and teaching history at Lexington High School. Prior to Lexington, Coach Rogers taught and coached at Bluffton High School (South Carolina) and Crestview High School. Coach Rogers is married to Mrs. Rogers, who teaches 6th grade at Eastern Elementary, and they are the proud parents of Emmett and Gracie.

Karson Berry - Assistant Coach

Coach Berry is joining the freshman coaching staff this year, and is entering his first year coaching at his alma mater. Coach Berry was a 2022 graduate and a 3 year letterman during his playing days for the Minutemen. Coach Berry will be coaching the freshman running backs and linebackers this season.

Bradon Buchanan - Assistant Coach

Coach Buchanan is excited for his first year of coaching at Lexington High School. Coach Buchanan is a 2022 graduate of Lexington, and played football all three years while attending Lexington. He is very excited for this upcoming season and honored to work with the freshman offensive and defensive lines.

Lexington Minuteman Academic Scholarship

In the fall of 2016, the Lexington Academic Boosters chose to focus their support on providing scholarships to Lexington graduates. Lexington Minuteman Academic Scholarships (LMAS) were named to honor the former organization, and the LMAS committee was created.

Since 2016, the Lexington Local School District, along with Lexington High School, has offered scholarships to graduating Lexington High School or Pioneer Career and Technical Center seniors who have demonstrated an outstanding academic record, have participated in school related activities, and have provided service to the community.

The purpose of these scholarships is to offset costs associated with college or continuing education. Scholarships are awarded following the successful completion of the 1st semester of college or continuing education. A grade card or transcript is required for verification.

How can you help?

Please consider donating to the Lexington Minuteman Academic Scholarship fund to support our graduating seniors who plan to further their education and build upon the knowledge gained during their time in the Lexington Schools. Lexington High School takes great pride in the citizens who graduate and set out to make a difference in the world. Your tax deductible donation will help provide Lexington Minuteman Academic Scholarships this year and build the LMAS Fund to provide awards for future graduates of Lexington Schools.

Please see our website at www.lexington.k12.oh.us for the Lexington Minuteman Academic Scholarship page. There you will find our past recipients and the colleges and universities that they have attended. THANK

Please write LMAS in the memo line.

The main musical elements include the melodies of Beethoven’s 9th, 7th, and 5th Symphonies, along with the pop hit “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, and the hip-hop classic “Gangsta’s Paradise” by the recently passed artist Coolio.

FALL SEASON OUTLOOKS

Cross Country (Boys & Girls)

Coach Denise Benson is beginning her 25th season as head coach of both the Lexington Girls and Boys Cross Country teams. LexCC set bold, attainable team and individual goals at cross country camp. Lady Lex will lean on a rich history under Benson which includes 16 OCC Championships, 16 District Championships, 10 Regional Titles and 5 State Championships. Lex boys are revving up and wanting to add to their success of 8 OCC Championships, 9 District Championships, 5 Regional Titles and 2 State Championships.

Last year Lady Lex brought home an OCC Championship, District Championship, Regional Championship, and finished a strong 3rd place at State. The ladies are returning four state team members and looking to several new runners to heavily contribute. The strength of All-Ohioans, Brailey Slone and Elyana Weaver will lead the team, along with the experience of Abby Moeglin. Lady Lex will tighten their pack by post season and become who they want to be by tournament time.

Lex Boys have something to prove in their second consecutive year as a Division I team. They are defending OCC Champions and were Regional Qualifiers last season. The Lex pack will be stronger and more confident this season, and will attack together. This year’s team has more experience, less fear, and an intense drive to accomplish their goals. Look for the tight, powerful pack of Chance Basilone, Latrell Hughes, Ethan Slone, Lincoln Rice, Gage Devaney, and Luke Haring to lead the Minutemen. Lex CC boys are ready to make a strong tournament run this season.

Football

Coach Saris begins his second year as the head football coach of the Lexington Minutemen. The team will be led by 7 seniors, and as Coach Saris mentions, “The seniors have done a great job leading and mentoring our underclassmen. Our X factor will be our big play potential on offense and the strength of our defensive front.” In addition, Coach Saris knows that for the team to achieve success, they must strengthen their individual efforts, which has been a theme over the past several weeks. Finally, what excites not only Coach Saris, but all of the coaches on the football staff is the fact that the players are forming a bond between each other that helps them hold each other accountable and prepares them for a grueling non-conference and OCC schedule.

Golf (Girls)

The girls' golf team will start their 16th season of competition this fall. Head Coach Michael Kathrein has been at the helm since the first season. He has compiled a record of 124-53 at Lexington. He has 26 years of golf coaching experience in both the boys' and girls' programs. Coach Kathrein is enthusiastic about the season. He is returning only one letter winner from last season's State Tournament Team, senior Darcie Reinhart. Darcie is providing excellent leadership and newcomer junior, Makaree Chapman, is leading the team on the course. The varsity team includes juniors Kyler Lamb, Lauryn Nupen, and Willow Roberts. Kyler and Lauryn are also returning letter winners. Sophomores Raquel Thomas and Libby Newland also contribute to the varsity team. The girls' golf program also includes juniors Zoe Dingus and Ali Shaheen along with sophomore Ellie Hicks. All the players are a joy to work with and are improving rapidly. Coach Kathrein believes the squad has a good chance to win the conference and advance in the post season. Coach Kathrein and Coach Kevin Morrow are looking to continue to have a strong program and build leaders for the school and the community.

Golf (Boys)

Coach Tom Ballinger enters his 1st season as the varsity boy’s head golf coach. The team is led by 3 returning letterwinners that include seniors Jack Wyant & Seth Reed, as well as sophomore Griffin Hughes, all of whom contributed to last season’s team that won the OCC Championship. Several upperclassmen and newcomers will also compete for spots on the traveling team as the Minutemen golfers look to defend their OCC crown and make a run in the postseason.

2023 - 2024 FALL SEASON OUTLOOKS

Soccer (Girls)

Lady Lex Soccer is looking forward to another big season this fall. Head Coach Buck Morton is entering his 7th season with the girls with an overall record of 58-38-12. Last season Lady Lex won their first District Title in 12 years and the girls are looking forward to building on that momentum in 2023. The team will be led this year by 10 seniors, Allie Parker, Makenna Arnholt, Addy Boyce, Olyvia Stoots, Mackie Weber, Sam Morton, Kaylee Brown, Maddie Hughes, Lydia Schroeder, and Zoey Morris. The girls had a rigorous and successful pre-season taking on some of the best teams in the state and beyond. Coach Morton is excited for the season and challenges ahead. He states, “we feel confident in our returning players with many of them being seniors. We look forward to once again using our depth and experience to put ourselves in a position to try and win an OCC title and again be in the mix to win another District crown.” Coach Morton added, “we know there is going to be a lot of high expectations for our team based on last year’s success, but we are going to just focus on each game as we play and try to improve throughout the season.” Lady Lex Soccer is excited to see everyone come out to the games and wish all the best to all the other Lex Fall sports teams. Be Great and Go Lex!

Soccer (Boys)

Coach Peter Them begins his 11th season in charge of the Boys Soccer Program. His 10-year record is 143-49-14. The team finished with a 15-5-1 overall record and finished 3rd in the OCC, with a record of 5-2 last fall. The boys finished their season in the Division II Regional Semis, with a 2-1 loss to Lima Shawnee. This year the team returns 13 seniors and 16 letter winners. He says the team's strengths are “experience.” His focus for improvement this season is “replacing the graduating pieces, filling those voids and getting everyone involved as early and often as possible.” He stated the team “needs to compete day in, and day out at practice.” “Our schedule is a grind both in and out of the OCC, thus we need to focus on getting better daily.” Coach Them concludes “We must quiet the noise and expectations, focus on our style and brand of soccer. With the core group of players returning, we have the capabilities to compete at a high level. We will have our growing pains, but we expect to play at the highest level and compete for championships! This senior class is extremely hungry to leave their own mark on this program!”

Tennis (Girls)

Coach Jansen Webster, and Hayliegh Tucker begin their second year as Lexingtons Girls tennis coaches. They return 6 Varsity players from last year. Their aim is to keep the Lexington tradition going and get an individual to state, and try to re-capture the OCC title that has been elusive in recent years. They are led by returning senior Jade Adkins, and Junior Malaina Wolfe.

Volleyball

Coach Janelle Wyant is beginning her fourth season at Lexington. Lady Lex finished 19-6 last year overall and 11-3 in the OCC to claim second place in the league. They fell to Vermilion in the Districts. Two seniors will provide excellent leadership in Kaylie Eichorn and Jenna Lehnhart. Lady Lex also returns Sophomores Ava Brown, Tatum Stover, and Bella Temple. Brown earned 3rd Team All Ohio Honors, 1st Team OCC and District 6 honors as a freshman. Stover was OCC 2nd Team and earned District 6 Honorable Mention honors, and Temple was OCC Honorable Mention as a freshman. All three are powerhouse players with extreme talent. Juniors Madeline Cramer and Savannah Wolfe, as well as sophomore Kylie Thorton round out the young team. Lady Lex has some big team goals this season and is thrilled to play in the new facility. Mark your calendar to attend a home match this fall and watch some exciting volleyball.
