The psychologist is offering therapy based on psychological science on cognitive behaviour, building upon theory that thoughts, create feelings, create actions, that create behaviour. This therapist uses conversation as a tool for the stressed client to feel acceptance of one’s situation being stressed, and to make the stressed client conscious about one’s unconscious patterns of thoughts, habits and behaviour by making one reflect upon inconvenient habits. This, in order to teach the burned-out person to deal with those by substituting them with positive and constructive thoughts. The therapy is often divided into several sessions of typically an hour of length. The number of sessions depends on the amount and type of dilemmas but typically it will be spread during several sessions, as the therapy depends on the stressed client to do thougt-excercises and experiments when confronted with the stressors.
The job is characterised by both introvert tasks such as the preparation for conversations and continuing education, as well as extrovert tasks such as conversations with clients, which is reflected in the spatial needs this therapeut has.
