Design Approach
The design process has been split into three main phases of iterations that informs one another, and each of them synthesising three elements of the sustainability aspects surveyed during the programme analysis. The split of iterations is inspired by the Jane Darke methodology of designing with primary design generators, suggesting designers to let one or few parameters dominate the design process, and by this having few parameters with a primary focus, with the aim of making a concept with a strong identity (Darke, 1979).
The first iteration investigates the shape and volume study of functionalities as well as contextual investigations on the landing of the volumes and how these are situated in the nature. Second iteration considers the interior space design and elaborates on complementary use of materials according to functionalities, a roof study and materials life costs analysis. Lastly, the third design iteration investigates indoor climatic aspects of critical rooms as part of the window placement study.

As the overall design process is iterative some of the investigations are going on simultaneously, as those are interrelated and thus have a co-dependency, informing one another.
