7 MUST ENSURE A LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT CONCERNING MATERIAL USE

The design must use building materials like wood, eelgrass and clay plaster with low environmental impacts. Furthermore, reused construction wood and reused steel foundation elements must be used minimizing both CO2 emissions while contributing to less waste in general. Materials must be of local origin.

8 MUST DESIGN FOR A BUILDING PERFORMANCE MEETING THE DEMANDS OF LOW ENERGY CLASS OF 2020

Obtaining this will be ensured by implementing passive strategies like an optimized building envelope, overhangs, solar shadings, natural ventilation etc. Active strategies like geothermal heat and solar cells are to be implemented too utilizing renewable energy sources.

9 MUST DESIGN THE CONSTRUCTION ON PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN FOR DISASSEMBLY

Instead of using nails and glue, screws and bolts must be prioritized as joining elements. This will protect the elements and make the building rebuildable in another setting. Elements with a shorter lifespan must be organized in a way, that makes them easily replaceable, e.g. windows and façade cladding.
