The north Idaho town is an established tourist community that is threatened by its isolation isolation, like many modern suburbs. The town is composed off several planned developments and a resort community. SKETCHES CONCEPTS & EXAMINATIONS here // there // evveryw where I make sense of the world througgh the extension of my hands. “The creative process is a coocktail off instinct, skill, culture and a highlyy creativee feverishness. It is not like a drug; it is a particular state when everything happens very quickly, a mixture of consciousness and unconsciousness, of feear and pleasure; it’s a little like making love, the physical act of love.” -Franciis Bacon
SERPENTINE PAVILION 1 DAY CHARETTE WITH ARUP ASSOCIATES summer 2011 // london, united kingdom The basic principle of sustainability is the concept of adaption vs. mitigation. This proposed pavilion physically demonstrates these two opposing concepts towards the greaterr population of London. On one side, the large central door can be easily moved as more people in habit the space (mitigate). On the other side the people are forced to adapt to the flfluc ucttuating ating spatial conditions conditions-they the ha have e no control of their environment and no must adapt to what is given to them. mu Th T he simple kinetic statement makes thiiss temporary piece of architecture this th re e rre eflflec ect society’s response, and th ec hei eir eir rro ole le witithi hin, hi n, sus usta tain inab abililitity. y
PIONEER SQUARE HOMELESS ASSITANCE SHELTER spring 2011 // seattle, washington Positioned along the original “skid road”, the corner off Yesler Way & Western Ave, this is a community centerr that combines the residents, commuters, tourists, & homeless of Pioneer Square, with the process off preparing homeless residents for independence. Historically, this location is the convergence of Seattle’s upper-class with a lower, poorer class. Today, Pioneerr Square continues to withstand this relationship between various social groups: the homeless, drug dealers, neighborhood residents, tourists, commuters, & business owners. This neighborhood needs a place for interaction between this diverse set of user types to strengthen the growing social relationships that could make this area a thriving neighborhood.Communal spaces are woven through pods (supported by a modular, tensegrity steel frame). The pods respond to significant moments along the process of adjusting from being homeless to returning to the social norm of living. Social interaction occurs spontaneously between, on top, & underneath these pods allowing for informal and meaningful relationships to occurlearning is not only through the programs offered, but also through g social support. pp
