AARON BOUCHER ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING WESTMINSTER, CA SOCCER, BASKETBALL, GUITAR Aaron is a freshman ARCE major at Cal Poly. He loves both math and design, so ARCE is a perfect fit for him. Working in the shop to build the paraSITE was great, and reminded him how much he love to build full scale designs. Aaron has had a great time in studio so far, and can’t wait for next quarter to continue building models. Design Village 2013, here he comes!
COURTNEY SLUDER ARCHITECTURE SAN DIEGO, CA ART, LACROSSE, WRITING She originally got interested in architecture because of her love of art and designing. The idea that she can design and help build something that will be permanent has been one of the biggest influences in her decision to pursue architecture. This project helped her realize how a single idea drawn on a piece of paper can transform into a lifesize project. Courtney learned about the process of construction, which improved her skills in shop and allowed her to have the knowledge of how to use her own drilll. Overall, it was a great project that taught her about being flexible with designs in order to make constructing them achievable.
GARRETT GRIFFITH ARCHITECTURE KAILUA, O’AHU, HI LONG WALKS ON THE BEACH, CANDLE-LIT DINNERS He ventured from his small island town to become educated on the mainland. Garrett was interested in drawing as a child and decided that architecture was a practical application of his artistic talents. He hopes to one day own a house he designed on a beach somewhere in the world.
MOLLY CHEN ARCHITECTURE PALO ALTO, CA ART & DESIGN, MUSIC She cannot imagine being anything other than a Cal Poly architecture major. She has found that the learn by doing attitude is greatly succesful in teaching her about all things architecture. Design thrills her. It is the only energy she needs to function. Organizing and putting this paraSITE together has not only given her greater knowledge of design and structure, but also skills in group work. She has learned to build at larger scales than she has ever built at before, all the while revising the way she thinks.
