A h yest My assignment Is to prepa r e a gossip colu mn for the Cardinal Review and another fo r the dramatics depanment. Besides that, they ga"e me a stipulation -" Hav e It r eady ea rly ," Here I am, struggling along with Lewi s and Clark in United states history, Mendel s theory or he r edity in biology, grammer in English composition , and neurotics , ( the prlv! leged class to which I will soon bel ong) , In psychology A nd now I'm supp ose d ID snea k a round thls virtuous school and check up on the latest gossip. Hm -m-m-maybe lf I'd have a drink I could calm ll\l" nerves and feel b etter Oops , I'd bette r claruy that statement! I'm addicted to orange and grape Juice mixed with coke
Let ' s see now, what gossip is there? I re membe r th e day "Deedie" Snider came to pick me up fo r ou r 9:00 o'clock drama class. Well, there happened to b e an obstac l e that day and she was by no means small. we fell nat on our faces Paying no heed to our bloody knees or torn nylons, Linda Nelson screamed ecstatically, "Peg! He gave It to me He gave It t o me! ! " I thought to myself "The poo r gi r l ' s gone berserk !" I decide d to play h er sil)y lilUe game and asked her what she was so excited about. She reach ed In her purse and pulled out a false tootb mounted on a Plate and cried, "Tom gave me his o ld set this morning after he got hi s new o ne We're going steady! " With thatshewalked orr in a daze. I thought how dell ghted she 'd be 1r old Gilbert decided to marry her and gave her an entl r e set of dentu r es fo r the wedding
But my whole day was enlightened w hen I hea rd this bi l of news. B utch Olson, good SL Nlck himself, was looking eve rywhere ror a red light bulb. It seems one or his friends needed It ror a "tree" and Butch wanted his Christmas to be comp l ete Whal else would he need a red !!ghl bulb for?

Vacation Plans, A ccompl-ishme nts Usually Differ
by Oor,o/d N Helkkllo
Vacations are always tlmes when one seems to put everything off until no vacation Is eve r long enough seldom is there time to do the thin gs that should be done, and never is there time fo r the things that shouldn ' t be done (Which of course isn't true)!
I tllln k It wou Id be fun to compare the th! ngs that some ,me might plan to do on a vacation w !th the th! ngs that a re actually accomplisned
Plans for a vacation:
1. Write a report on fascism, (nice reading material between the second and third courses of Chrlstma.~ dinner)
2 "Bone up for a psycho logy test ( Good ti me to analyze the soma •s efrecL on the psyche is when everyone eats too much)
3 Memorize one cl Shakespeare's works (This al ways makes jolly entertainment when recited during demi tasse).
Of course tJJe things that usually get accomplished might be:
1. A walk to Lhe top of a beautiful snow clad mountain In the morning sunshine, with the juncos out in full voice and the ring of sleigh bells in a distant valley (Instead of the fascism business).
2 A ride on a horse drawn sleigh with a favorite person! (Then the psyche would have to restrltin the soma-Re! Rel)
3. Of course one could recite Shakespeare while skiing down a beautiful mountain·- but well , that can b e done later (Five minutes before class)
So, to end a. vacation i t is - - goodbye turkey sandwiches, goodbye beau tifu I moments, come hither college grind, there's always another vacati.;.;;.o~nc....~

Hypnotist Gives Demonstration For Psychology Clas ses
A demonstration and genera l discussion about hypnosis was given to several psychology classes at N!JC by Dr Maurice E. Bryant, president of the American Medical Hypnotists Association, Nov 30 , Or Bryant opened his dis· cussion by saying that he did not hypnotize anyone H e explained that a willing subject tQ hypnosis did the actual wo rk of hypnotizing, and that be, Dr. Bryant , would merely be the "Operator " (He explained that the tenn "opera lo r" r eferred to a person who conditi oned another lndi vi dual und er hypnosis by suggestio n. ) Or Bryant hypn otized seve ral p re-selected individua l s as a demonstration. The subject for examp l e , was asked to be seated in a chai r and to r ela x as comp Jetely as possible He then asked bis subject to focus his attention on bis hand, which he placed directly in front or the subject 's eyes He t,) l d the subject to relax- -that was all- except fo r a slight movement of his hand In the short period of a minute at most, the su bJ ect was hypnotized.
While under hypnosis several of the subjects we re to ld by Dr Bryant t hat they would smel l roses when he passed the open bottle of smelling salts under their noses. After being awakened from the hypnotic state by Dr. Bryan~ the subjects said they had smelled roses.
