Ryan: “He’s one of the most talented players on the team with amazing stick handling skills. He’s a good source of humor in the locker room. Communicates well on the ice and directs players in the defensive zone.”

dakota: “He is a hard worker who has got your back on the ice no matter what. Quiet but effective. You don’t want to be in Dakota’s crosshairs. He’s a bruiser.”

gibson: “He always has a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Has heart and tries hard everyday in practice. Never gets discouraged, and is always ready to play.”

Balazs: “He’s a really fast skater and pushes the rest of the team in practice. He’s a very friendly senior who socializes with the younger players. Highly respected on the team and he respects other players on the team equally as much.”

Dylan:

“ Takes the team seriously. Always eager to play. He always encourages hard work in practice.”

“A hard worker on and off the ice. He always gets the team motivated to win. He is a dependable player on the ice and a hilarious kid off the ice.”

good luck seniors It is my pleasure to have had you as my first senior class as head coach. I admire your work ethic and all that you boys bring to the team both on and off the ice. ryan

Emerson

Ryan returned to defense this season and has become one of the leaders of the defensive core. On the power play and penalty kill he leads the units with success. He also is a strong shot-blocker that is not afraid of sacrificing his body for a strong defensive effort. –Coach Zarach

Parents: Marsha & Larry Emerson Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: All the pranks we played on Timmy V and Hubbell. Advice to Underclassmen: Cherish the time you have because it goes by a lot faster than you think. Personal Acknowledgements: I’d like to thank all the coaches I’ve had in my life and especially my parents for taking me everywhere, as well as my dad’s wisdom. Future Plans: Next year I will be attending Mercyhurst University to play lacrosse and to study government intelligence in hopes to become an F.B.I. or C.I.A. agent. Coaches: I’d like to thank our new coaching staff this year for bringing new life into the program. Also, I’d like to thank Dan Addy, my coaches in Syracuse, and most importantly my father.

Case

Carson is a hard worker who practices like he plays! He is one of the first boys to the rink and often the last to leave. His work ethic is outstanding and he does what is asked of him by the coaching staff with a positive attitude. –Coach Zarach Parents: Ladeen & Jim Case Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: Although I didn’t play because I was injured, my favorite memory would have to be the Gold Rush game at home junior year. Advice to Underclassmen: At the end of the day there’s more to hockey than winning, there’s more to life than hockey and always be the teammate that you’d like to have. Personal Acknowledgements: I would like to thank my family for supporting me, especially my brother who has always been there. However, most importantly, I want to thank my teammates, we are like brothers and I would do anything for you guys because I know you would do the same for me. Future Plans: Next year I plan to attend SUNY Oswego and study Technology Education. Coaches: I would like to thank Beau Saul, Russ Johnson, Scott Hughes, Brandon French, and Coach Armstrong as well as all of my current coaches.

Baylor

Dakota is a player that loves to play with high intensity and is very physical. He not only can make a momentum-changing hit, but he can also be a playmaker. He also is a team player and will do what is needed to make the team stronger by playing whatever role is needed of him by the coaching staff. –Coach Zarach Parents: Sonja & Beau Baylor Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: Locker room hijinks and countless hours on the bus with the boys. Advice to Underclassmen: Remember, every time you pull on the jersey, it could be your last. Personal Acknowledgements: I’d like to thank my dad and my coaches through the years. I would like to thank Russ and Scotty for all their time they have put into the program. I would like to thank Coach A for making me a stronger meaner player. I would also like to thank this year ’s coaching staff for the opportunity to play and lead by example. Future Plans: I plan to go to college to become a teacher but am undecided as to where. Coaches: My dad, Chris Gibbons, Coach A, Scottie, Russ, and this year ’s staff.

luke Culver

Mendola

As the team captain, Luke is a tremendous leader both on and off the ice. Luke is a strong role model for what it looks like to be an Ithaca Little Red hockey player. Luke leads by example and also mentors the younger players. He holds himself and his teammates to a high standard that sets the bar for the program. –Coach Zarach Parents: Chris Culver & Bob Mendola Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: Playing and partnering with my brother Gabe in eighth and ninth grades; Every Auburn and West Genesee game; Two Gold Rushes; Winning this year ’s game against FM. Advice to Underclassmen: Chance favors the prepared man; Maintain your youthful enthusiasm. Personal Acknowledgements: Coach Rich Armstrong for all his dedication, passion and effort. It has inspired hundreds of students. His principles and attitude have helped me grow as an athlete and as a citizen of the world. All the past players who have upheld the traditions and high standards that embody Ithaca High School hockey. Mom, Dad, Gabe, Serena, Wilson. Future Plans: I will attend Harvard University, play lacrosse, and pursue an interest in religion and political science.

Gilmore

Gibson is a feisty player who always goes as hard as possible in practice and games. His work ethic and willingness to be a team player makes him a pleasure to have on the team. –Coach Zarach

Parents: Rhonda & Jim Gilmore Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: My favorite memory would have to be walking into the IHS locker room for the first time. Advice to Underclassmen: Work hard and you will be rewarded. Personal Acknowledgements: I would like to thank Coach Zarach for giving me the opportunity to play at the varsity level. Future Plans: I will be taking a post-graduate year at a private school in New England. Coaches: I would like to thank: Tim McKinney, John Stevens, and Joe Walker.

Gearhart

Wilson, an assistant captain, is a fierce competitor who will do whatever it takes to be successful both on and off the ice. He is not only a leader in games and practices, but also in the locker room. He has the ability to lead by example and by speaking to his teammates when needed. He plays for the Ithaca program with strong passion and pride. –Coach Zarach Parents: Marybeth Tarzian and Rob Gearhart Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: Gold Rush 2012. That game had the biggest crowd of fans I’ve ever played in front of and even though we lost we played a great game and I can still vividly remember the goal I had in that game. It was one of the most exciting experiences of my life. My second favorite memory was my first varsity shift in 10th grade against Whitesboro at home with Carson and Connor. Advice to Underclassmen: High school is short, hockey season’s even shorter, enjoy it while you can, don’t take it for granted and never stop working hard. Personal Acknowledgements: I would like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout my hockey career and for everything they’ve done for me since initiation. Along with my parents I would like to thank the Mendola and Cramton families for driving Luke, Serena, Connor and I to games and practices for about 12 years now. I want to thank all my teammates I’ve had over the five years I’ve been with the high school program, on modified and varsity, but especially the class of 2013 and 2014 for making my hockey experience as fun as possible. I would also like to thank all my coaches over my 12 years of playing hockey. I would especially like to thank Coach Armstrong, not only for helping me develop into a better hockey player, but also helping me develop into a man. Coach Armstrong has so many things to teach his players and students. He has taught me so much about life and I will always remember that. I would also like to thank all the assistant coaches I’ve had under Coach A: Russ and Scottie for everything they’ve done for the modified, summer and varsity teams, and Frenchy for helping me with my skills as a hockey player. Last I would like to thank this year’s coaching staff, especially Coach Elberty, for making the best out of a tough situation.

Balazs is a hard worker who gives his best effort every practice and game. He carries himself well both on and off the ice. No matter what is asked of him, he gives it his all. –Coach Zarach

Advice to Underclassmen: Hard work is the most important thing. Personal Acknowledgements: I’d like to thank my family for giving me the opportunity to play hockey and driving all over the state to games when I was younger. Abdulky

Mike is a well-rounded hockey player who plays both ends of the ice at a high level. He has one of the best shots on the team and has grown into a reliable goal scorer. He leads by example on the ice and plays the game with 100% effort every shift. –Coach Zarach Parents: Laila & David Abdulky Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: Bus rides; The locker room; My first goal junior year against Corcoran. Advice to Underclassmen: No matter how tough things get, keep moving forward and give 100% all the time. Make sure you listen to what the coaches say and remember that there is always room for improvement. Wear the red and gold with pride and never forget who you’re fighting for. Personal Acknowledgements: I would like to thank my parents and the rest of my family for constant support and for lugging me around to all of my games. I would like to thank Coach Russ Johnson for always pushing me to do my best and for being more than just a coach, but a role model as well. Also, Coach Armstrong for teaching me what it takes to be a varsity athlete and for all the life lessons he taught me. I would also like to thank all of my teammates over my four varsity seasons who have become and always will be my brothers. Future Plans: Attend two years at Monroe Community College and continue my hockey career, then try to go division 3 and become a physical therapist. Riker

Dylan is a hard worker who gives 100% every practice. He is one of the first guys to the rink and one of the last guys out of the rink. Dylan truly loves playing for the Ithaca Little Red with pride and passion. –Coach Zarach Parents: Ramie Ericson & Bob Riker Favorite Memories as IHS Varsity Team Member: My first favorite memory as an IHS varsity player was my first game against Shenendehowa. My second favorite memory was my second game that I played against Cortland. I was glad to see the players I have played with and I was very glad to get my first shutout against them as well. Advice to Underclassmen: Always work hard and always be ready. It pays off when you get your chance to get in. Personal Acknowledgements: I would like to thank my parents for showing me the sport of hockey and supporting me throughout the years. I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates for helping me get to be the person and player I am today. I would really like to thank Joe Walker, Mike Schafer, Russ Johnson, and Dan Elberty for believing in me and inspiring me to continue to improve. Future Plans: I plan on playing D3 lacrosse somewhere, probably at Roger Williams University, and hopefully get to play some club hockey.
